Now... On with the story!
'No food... No water... Day one point five of my lonely exile...' Inuyasha's ears drooped and he laid his head back between his paws.
He had woken at about five that morning. His neck hurt, his leg was in a splint and he was tied to what looked like a huge shed.
'Not to mention I'm still a fucking dog...'
That was the part he still couldn't figure out. One second he's ready to strike down a soulless bitch... The next he's got four paws, a cold nose, and a wagging tail.
'Ugh! I have a TAIL! Might as well be like that fucking wolf bastard, Kouga.'
As soon as he had awakened from being knocked out by a remote and realized he was tied up and splinted OUTSIDE while the bitch was inside obviously sleeping so he howled. And howled. And howled.
He howled himself hoarse, pissing off not only the woman in the house but the few close neighbors she had.
A little after the sun had come up he heard the sound of the house door opening.
He lifted his head with interest and golden eyes followed the girl as she swept the porch. He woofed lightly and she looked in his direction. 'Wrong word. She didn't look. She glared!'
And she wasn't Kikyou. He did a bit of a double take before she turned to go inside the house. She DID resemble Kikyou but she definitely wasn't her. She had more emotion on her face. In this case utter fury.
His ears drooped once more and he dropped his head. 'I wonder what the odds of her feeding me are since I tried to tear her throat out last night..."
Surprisingly enough after about a half hour of him smelling the most wonderful breakfast he'd ever smelled in his life she appeared once more with two bowls in hand.
This time he got the chance to really study her. He couldn't believe he had mistaken her for Kikyou! First was the hair. Kikyou had long black hair. While this girl's hair was also long and black hers was wavy. Kikyou's was straight. Then he looked into her eyes. Kikyou's brown ones seemed soulless. They were completely void of any emotion what so ever. 'Except maybe hate...' This girl's were blue, filled with life, sparkle, and emotion. In this case caution. 'Damn. I really scared her.'
His eyes ran over the rest of her body and he was almost glad to be in dog form. Then he was excused for positively drooling. She wore a close fitting red sweater thick enough to protect from the light breeze but thin enough to still let air through. And luckily for him this sweater had a low enough neck line to show off her pale neck, collar bone, and when she bent down to fix her shoe, a nice amount of cleavage.
His golden eyes wondered back up to her blue ones and she smiled prettily. "Are you hungry boy?" He let her scent drift through his nostrils and he sighed, memorizing that scent. Finally he woofed quietly and stepped forward, fluffy white tail wagging slowly.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Kagome breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't try to eat her this time. Her eyes roamed his furry body checking his injuries from a far. They weren't healed by any means but they weren't bleeding all over the place either. 'I consider that to be good news...' Cautiously she stepped forward and placed the bowl of eggs and bacon down for the dog. His golden eyes looked into hers for a brief second then he turned to his meal. She stayed where she was watching him eat. Within a minute he lifted his head, licking the taste from his chops. "That didn't take you long at all did it, Inu?" She kept her voice soft as to not startle the dog.
They regarded each other silently for a moment. Inuyasha was the one to move forward and stick his nose out to breathe in more of her scent.
Slowly Kagome reached a shaking hand out to his neck to run her fingers over his stitching in his neck. He whined slightly when her fingers made contact with the injured skin but he didn't try to rip her face off. "I suppose the day is looking up, huh?" she smiled at him crookedly and his nose twitched as he stretched his neck to get his face closer to hers.
Finally his cold, wet nose was only an inch from hers. They peered into each other's eyes for a moment before Kagome lifted her fingers to his head to check his ears. They flicked away from her fingers for a moment but he remained still and continued to sniff her.
One of his ears twitched in a different direction and that was all the warning she had. His eyes hardened and he snarled. She didn't even have time to pull away before he was lunging. However it wasn't her he was lunging for.
"Gaaahh what the--?" The voice was cut of by horrible snarling.
Kagome turned to see Inu pinning what looked to be Miroku to the ground while snarling in his face. Sango stood two feet away torn between calling for help or beating the dog off herself. She was just about to do the latter when Kagome jumped in and bravely put her arms around Inu's stomach in attempts to pull him away from Miroku.
"Inu no!" She yelled and tugged a little harder. The dog actually stopped and backed down and sat next to Kagome.
Kagome streched out a hand to help Miroku up. "Sorry about that. He gets spooked very easily."
Miroku took the hand and stood to brush himself off. "No problem, Kagome. I didn't know you were planning on getting a dog..."
Kagome smiled and hugged Sango in greeting. "I wasn't. I found him last night outside of the hospital. He was hit by a car right as I was walking past. Not to mention someone burned his ears pretty badly."
"Good god." Sango leaned down the the dog's level but stayed out of his reach. "He's a beautiful dog." The dog's golden eyes glared darkly at Sango then softened a little.
Miroku leaned now next to Sango and put his arm around her and he glared again.
Kagome merely nodded and continued to stare at the golden eyed dog with wonder.
He felt her eyes on him and glanced her way for a second. Then turned away from everyone to curl up against the wall of the shed he was attached to. 'Looks like I'm not going anywhere for a while.'
Kagome smiled towards her friends. "So what do you guys want for lunch?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It took a while for the pain of being hit by a car to really sink into Inuyasha's mind. For the most part he had been either knocked out or so focused on Kagome that he hadn't even thought about it.
Now it was back with a vengeance.
Inuyasha hadn't moved from his spot by the shed wall. He'd taken up whining and hoping the girl that had stitched him would have something for the pain.
He watched the man and woman that had arrived earlier walk by giving him a wide berth as to not agitate him.
Kagome came out soon after Miroku and Sango left.
She was on her way to the market but she stopped by long enough to tell the dog to stay put and to feed him.
"Don't worry, Inu. When I get back, you'll have some presents." She gave him a kind smile and set down a large bowl of food. She looked like she was going to reach over and pet him then backed away. She thought better of it.
"Bye, Inu..." She whispered before turning away.
It took her a while before she actually reached the store she needed to go to but when she finally made it she was quite excited. First she picked up a collar. She turned it in her fingers, shook her head, and put it down. "His neck would never be able to handle that." She moved on. "Bowls would be nice..." Her eyes were caught by a bright red shine.
"Perfect!" she thought of the dog waiting at home and smiled. With his temper, red would be perfect.
She stayed at the store for another hour picking up random things, changing her mind, changing it back, and finally paying for everything.
She made it up the shrine steps with minimal issues. Upon coming around the corner she almost tripped over Inuyasha who was waiting rather impatiently.
"Inu! I brought you so much stuff!" She pulled out a bright red blanket with bright white huskies printed across it.
Inuyasha bulked. 'What the hell?!' She laid it down inside the shed to keep it out of the weather. Next to it she placed a huge bone, and a squeaker toy in the shape of a mail man.
Poor Inuyasha didn't know what to do. He was annoyed with the things Kagome brought him but on the other he really couldn't blame her considering the state he found himself in. 'It's a fucking lose lose situation...'
Kagome was in such a good mood she even risked scratching the non-burned part of his ears before bouncing off and muttering about dinner.
She was maybe three steps away from the shed before she was being jumped on by a massive furry white, snarling body.
Her heart was in her throat. Why had he turned on her? She expected ot be bitten but it never came. Instead he jumped away from her and went tearing out of the door way at full speed.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Inuyasha stood at the end of his leash snapping in fury. 'You fucking asshole get over here and stand still!' Five feet away stood a rather handsome looking man with a rather dashing smile. 'Naraku you fucking bastard! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?!'
Naraku smirked down at the snarling ball of fur and smirked. "Quiet pup." That caused Inuyasha to stop and stare wide-eyed at him. Naraku knelt down, careful to stay out of Inuyasha's line of attack. "Yeah. I know it's you-" It was all he got out before Kagome came around the corner.
"Hello Naraku!" Kagome gave the man a pleasant smile. It had taken her a moment to over-come the shock, dust herself off, and come out of the shed. Meanwhile Inuyasha stood at the end of his leash going crazy. "What are you doing here?"
He gave his usual pleasant smile. "I heard you had quite the ordeal after work last night. I was just coming to see if you were okay."
She smiled brightly. "I'm fine. Poor Inu here got hit by a car outside of the hospital so I took him in." Inuyasha tuned down the attack to a dull roar and sat in front of Kagome almost on her feet.
Naraku's eyebrows shot up slightly. 'What are the odds?' "You named him so I am assuming you're intending to keep him?" 'There doesn't seem to be any kind of Demonic aura around him. I don't think he can change back. Especially not if she doesn't know about it so far. This is going to require further looking into.'
"I don't see why not..." She nodded. "I seem to be the only one he semi gets along with so far." 'Oh please go away... I really don't want to have to invite you for tea or something.'
"So would you like-"
"I must be going, Kagome. I'm sorry I have an important meeting. Maybe next time?" He glanced back towards the dog at her feet.
Kagome nearly sighed with relief. 'Thank the gods...' "Oh. I'm sorry... Yeah maybe next time." 'I hope I don't sound too happy about this.'
He bowed slightly to her and she did the same. Only for the sake of being polite.
"It was good seeing you and meeting your new friend. Goodbye, Kagome..."
"Yeah... Bye..." Kagome's finger found Inuyasha's ears and she began to stroke them nervously. He glanced her way but otherwise tried to ignore the contact in favor of keeping his attention on Naraku.
Naraku silently made his way down the Shrine steps. He could feel Inuyasha's glare on his back until he made his way out of sight. Even then he was still pretty sure the dog was glaring in his general direction.
He flipped his cellphone open and dialed Kikyou's number. She didn't answer. 'Probably screening her calls...' "Kikyou. This is Naraku. There has been a rather interesting development in the whole Takahashi plan..." He didn't bother saying goodbye.
Kagome's eyes also followed Naraku off her property. Once she was sure he was at least down the stairs she sighed with relief. "Gods he's creepy..."
She felt Inuyasha's head turn towards her and she stopped petting his sensitive ears. "Well... I better be getting in... I'll bring you some food and water in a little while." She felt comfortable enough to kneel down and run her hand across Inuyasha's furry white chest.
Inuyasha closed his eyes for a second. 'I'd so much rather you be doing that while I am normal...'
"Oh. My mother and little brother are due to arrive for dinner here pretty soon. Don't growl at them. If you're lucky Souta will want to play fetch with you." She was taken aback by the dead-pan expression he gave her.
'Something tells me he doesn't like to play...' She smiled again and stood up. "See you later, boy!"
Inuyasha grumbled inwardly and watched her walk away. 'If she expects me to play fetch she's out of her mind...' He sighed lightly and limped his way into the open shed. He glared at the blanket Kagome had laid down for him however her moved over towards it anyway. 'Might as well test it. I'll just call it quality control...' He circled the blanket three times before finally settling down on it. Within seconds his eyes were closed and his breathing slowed. That blanket was actually pretty damn comfortable.
Kagome left the door open to listen for her mother. She wanted to intervene before Souta saw Inu and jumped on him. She wasn't sure what kind of reaction he would have with being tackled by a kid.
Keeping an ear out for the car, she set to work making dinner. "Hmmm... I'm thinking Oden for dinner tonight." She grabbed everything she needed and lost herself in the preparations.
It seemed he had barely gotten five minutes of sleep before his ears detected a car pulling up. His eyes popped open and he moved out of the shed with a deep bark warning whoever it was to stay away.
The first one he saw was a boy barely 15. "When did Kagome get a dog?!" The boy ran up to Inuyasha to inspect him. Inuyasha on the other hand was about to lunge at him when he remembered Kagome's warning.
'Fuck. Better act nice or she might kick me out of the grounds or something.' He perked his ears up as far as he could and wagged his tail as if he was happy to see the boy. 'I'm so glad Sesshomaru isn't here to see this...' When the boy came close he allowed himself to be petted and cuddled.
Kagome made it out of the house in time to see Inu being hugged. Her eyes widened. "SOTA NO!!"
Sota looked at her confusion. "What's the matter sis?"
Kagome stopped and stared in shock. 'This is the first time I've seen him wag his tail for anyone...'
"Why are you yelling Kag- Oh my!" Kagome's mother stood next to her and stared at the massive white ball of fur being squeezed by the boy. "When did you get a dog?" She reached down slowly to pet the top of Inu's head. "And what happened to him?"
"He was hit by a car, before that I don't know. I got him last night." She smiled as Inuyasha sniffed her mother's hand.
"What are you going to do with him while you go to work? You know your shifts are crazy." Her mother made a good point and that caused Kagome to pause. Sometimes she wasn't home until she was done with 12 hours of work. And by then she felt like she was going to die.
"I'll have Sango come over and take care of him while I'm gone." 'He'd eat Miroku... I'd better tell her to leave him home.'
"Oh! I can help too, Kagome! I can walk and feed him!" Souta volunteered.
Kagome smiled but changed the subject. She still wasn't sure about Souta being around the dog. "Oh! I forgot about dinner! It's probably more than ready by now." She smiled and turned to lead the way into the house.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
A while later Inuyasha watched Kagome's family exit the door they had gone into before. Her little brother ran up and gave him a tight hug and pat before taking off to follow his mother. 'I'm so glad no one knows who I am right now...' He grumbled inwardly. It was awkward being cuddled by a 15 year old boy.
Kagome came out a few minutes later with a steaming cup, a blanket around her shoulders, and another cup full of something he couldn't make out. He eyed her appreciatively, still glad he was in dog form. It was warm enough still she wore slightly loose PJ bottoms with a tighter fitting tank top. She watched the dog carefully, looking for any signs of aggression. He just sat down and looked at her curiously.
She inched closer and finally sat down in the grass next to the shed. Inuyasha slowly approached her and sat down, still looking at her curiously. She smiled at him softly. "I bet your hungry, huh boy?"
His ears perked up slightly and she laughed softly. Inuyasha instantly decided he liked her laugh. She stood up and went around the corner of the shed door where his blanket and bowls were. He listened as she poured whatever was in the non-steaming cup into the bowl. His stomach growled and he followed quickly to see what kind of food she was offering him.
'DOG FOOD?!' He glared at her, the bowl, then her again. 'I'm NOT eating that shit!' Kagome stared back at him in confusion. "C'mon, Inu. Try it. It's the best the store had!" He ignored her in favor of glaring some more.
She growled at him. "Fine." She picked up his bowl, turned on heel, and headed back to the house. Once inside she dumped the food out and rinsed the bowl. Then, after searching her fridge she grabbed some meaty leftovers and warmed them up. As soon as they were ready she dumped them in Inu's bowl and headed outside in a quick paced walk. 'He sure is stubborn!'
As soon as she presented him the new bowl of food he sniffed it cautiously then dove right in. He really liked her cooking. She smiled, satisfied that he was eating and slid down to her spot. "You just wait until you're healed. Once you're better you're eating dog food whether you like it or not!"
He stopped eating and gave her a look that clearly said 'Yeah right...' and resumed eating. She glared at him. "Don't you give me that look. You'll eat it when you get hungry enough." She received the same look. "Stubborn dog." She muttered under her breath.
Soon enough Inuyasha finished his meal and stepped silently over to the girl leaning against the wall, seemingly lost in thought. He nudged her elbow with his nose to get her attention. She turned and smiled at him again. This time it was more of a sad smile than anything. "I suppose your owner is quite worried about you. You are quite the rarity huh?"
He cocked his head at her but otherwise supplied no answer. Not that she was expecting one. She ran her hands over the fur on the top of his head, carefully avoiding his ears. "I'll wait until you're healed though. I don't think your owner would like you being returned in such bad shape." She was really looking for an excuse to keep him around for a little while.
His ears drooped when she stood up and sighed. "Well, boy. I had better head back inside. I have to get up super early tomorrow morning." She smiled and turned away. Surprisingly enough, Inuyasha was actually sad to see her go.
A/N: Yeah. It took forever. I needed to make it long enough and still have it move at the speed I need it to. Also I need an editor of sorts if anyone is interested...
And thank you for the reviews!!! I was sooo excited when I saw them XD
