Dislaimer: Yeah. No owning of the Inuyasha fo' me.

On with the show!!!

Inuyasha was shaken out of his sleep by the slamming of Kagome's front door. He looked around. It was still very much dark outside. 'What the hell?' He stood quickly and strode out of the doorway in time to see Kagome crossing the yard dressed in full Nurse's clothes. 'I didn't know she was a nurse...' He woofed at her and wondered for a second it was loud enough. He got his answer when she stopped in her tracks and looked at him.

She gave him what he dubbed to be her 'happy to see you, Inuyasha' smile before crossing the courtyard to greet him. She didn't have as much hesitation when she reached over to pet him between the ears. This made Inuyasha feel a little better about trying to bite her earlier. She was starting to forgive him.

"I gotta go to work, buddy. So you're on your own for quite some time. Sango will probably be stopping by to feed you and I imagine Souta will probably sneak over after school and play with you so be nice." Her voice was stern but her eyes held a bit of laughter. She was starting to trust him with her little brother.

Inuyasha sighed and allowed her to continue petting him for a second. As much as he hated to admit it he knew he wasn't about to attack anyone Kagome allowed to be around. Even if she did keep him tied up she did patch him up, feed him, and she even put up with him trying to tear her face off within the first few seconds of their meeting. He owed her.

'Otherwise I'd be at the hands of Kikyou.' He shuddered slightly and she eyed him curiously. "Are you cold, boy? Go back to sleep. I have to go to work. I should be home sometime tomorrow." By tomorrow she meant about the same time she was leaving.

She gave him a final pat before turning away and trudging back across the lawn. Inuyasha watched her go somewhat sadly. Once she was finally out of sight and scent range he turned around and went back into the shed where he curled up on the blanket she gave to him. Today was going to be a long day.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kagome sighed. It had been six hours and four cases and she was ready to go home. 'Just eighteen more hours c'mon Higarashi, you can do it!' She took another sip of steaming hot coffee. First she had a rather large man with a compound fracture in his right arm and an attitude bigger than he was. Next she had an old woman with a heart condition go completely flat line on her, thankfully Kagome managed to get her heart pumping once more. She was just coming around the corner of the old woman's doorway when she ran into a pregnant woman -the case she was on her way to see- supposedly there for braxton hicks contractions. Well after the woman's water broke all over Kagome's clean white shoes it was obvious whoever diagnosed her was an idiot. She screamed for a gurney and the woman was rushed up to the maternity ward on the fourth floor, all the while glaring at Hojo, one of the doctors. The one that diagnosed the woman in the first place actually. He actually shrank back in fear.

And finally there was Kagome's 'favorite' case. Definitely one she would remember for years to come. A homeless woman came in nearly dead. Apparently some neighborhood kids beat her and she wandered into a back alley. Where she sat for weeks. Literally rotting in her skin. By the time she was found she had maggots embedded into three major cuts. Kagome sighed and laid her head on the table. She had just finished washing all the wounds with warm water and then picking out what maggots remained with tweezers.

The woman kicked, screamed, and even bit at her the whole time. She managed to land a well aimed kick to Kagome's thigh, leaving a nice foot sized bruise. She also managed to sink her teeth into Kagome's forearm and scream loud enough for Kagome and everyone else in the general area to question their hearing for the next few hours.

Kagome felt the bench next to her move slightly and she looked over to see Sango looking equally as disheveled and slightly battered. She opened her mouth to question the bruise forming on her friend's cheek but Sango cut her to the quick. "The maggot lady is taken care of."

The first woman blinked. "I was about to come back. I figured I'd give her a few minutes to let the doping medicine kick in before I got bit again..." She had had the urge to beat the woman into submission.

Sango shook her name. "You don't have to worry about it now. Naraku stopped by at last second and pulled Rin off of her. Thus she didn't get the drug and I was appointed to do the work myself. Bitch kicked me in the face."

Kagome looked at her apologetically for a second then gave a tired smile. "Did you hit her?" She hated to admit it but she was half hoping Sango got a punch in. Either on the crazy maggot lady or on Naraku, she wasn't sure which. And just what was Naraku doing down there anyway?

"Kami I wish I could have..." Sango sighed wistfully. Naraku ordered her to be tied down but kept awake so she can tell us if she feels any discomfort that may lead to us having missed any of those nasty worms.

Kagome just stared in outrage. "She can't even form a coherent sentence! How is she supposed to tell us if she's in discomfort?" Kagome stood up quickly and threw out her coffee. "I'm going to go talk to Naraku!"

"Kagome! Wait for me--" Sango didn't even get to take a sip of her coffee. Instead, she too threw it out and took off after a furious Kagome. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with.

The elevator wasn't moving fast enough so Kagome took the stairs with Sango in tow, nearly struggling to keep up. "Kagome! Slow down! Don't get fired!" Kagome didn't give a hint that she had heard Sango so she continued to yell.

Kagome spun around the corner to find Naraku in his crisp black suit talking to Hojo. She paused for a second, set her jaw, and walked forward, clearly having a purpose. "Naraku, sir? Can I have a word? Thanks!" She cut Hojo off and got in between them enough to drag Naraku away from the conversation and closer to the nurse's station. She spun him around fo face her angrily.

"Why is the homeless woman in 314 still awake?" She asked, voice barely controlled.

Naraku looked at her distastefully. "Last I checked Nurse Higarashi, it wasn't your job to decide what is best for the patients. I am still the head of this floor and I still call the shots."

By now Sango, Rin, and a bunch of other nurses were standing by the Nurse's station watching in shock. Kagome was usually quiet and reserved. She cared a lot about her patients which probably explained why she was nearly putting her job on the line.

"She is not asleep because she needs to be able to tell us if there are any other maggots left. Unless of course you don't care..."

How dare he think she didn't care?! "I don't care?! She can't tell us anything! All she can do is scream and she does that no matter what! She's attacked both me and Sango, I see no reason for her to still be awake." Her voice finally leveled out. "I will go in myself and cover the wounds with saline gauze. I will oversee her bandages getting changed. If there are anymore maggots they will bury themselves into the gauze. By the time I go home she'll be clean of any bugs."

Sango walked up and cleared her throat. She could see the vein in Naraku's neck throbbing slightly. She didn't want to see Kagome losing her job because of her upset.

"Naraku, uh sir. I need your clerance on some papers here before I go..." Naraku sat for a second glaring at Kagome as darkly as possible. "Do as you please with that patient, Higarashi. If she has any more bugs in her at the end of her shift you are fired."

Kagome nodded and bowed low. Naraku didn't return the gesture. He chose to walk away instead.

"Thanks, Sango." Kagome whispered. "Do you think later today you can check on Inu for me? There's left overs for him in my fridge he's not a big fan of dog food..."

"Sango." Naraku stopped a few yards down the hall from where Kagome stood.

"Coming sir!" She turned to Kagome and began to walk away. "No problem, I'll make sure he's well fed."

"Thanks Sango I owe you! Oh! Try not to bring Miroku around. I don't think Inu likes men..." She turned away to go deal with the crazy woman in 314.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Inuyasha perked up to the sound of an approaching car. It was about three in the afternoon if his guess on the sun's position was correct. He sniffed in the direction of the stairs. The scent was quite familiar. He just couldn't quite place a name to the scent.

"Inu?" A shaking voice called out. Inuyasha moved from the cool dim shed into the light where he squinted for a second and allowed his eyes to adjust.

He found himself staring at the woman he had seen yesterday. 'This must be Sango.' He came to the end of his lead with Sango just out of reach.

When he didn't make a move to attack she reached out slowly and allowed him to sniff her fingers gently.

His breath moved gently against her fingertips and he hoped that would be enough to qualm her fears. 'Damnit I'm hungry. There's NO way I'm licking her fucking fingers...'

She seemed satisfied with his gentle sniffing. Stiffly, she pulled away from his nose and moved into the shed where she presumed his dishes were. She grabbed them both and headed inside without a backwards glance.

Inuyasha sat down and watched her quick retreat. 'She doesn't talk to me like Kagome does.' Inuyasha found himself missing his usual caretaker. At least they had a conversation from time to time. 'Well sort of.'

Sango returned quickly with the bowls. One was filled to the brim with cool water, the other was filled to the brim with nice warm leftovers. She sat them down into the shed and moved quickly out of range in case Inuyasha decided he didn't want her around anymore. 'Gods. I'm catering to a dog out of fear.' She scowled slightly but the look on her face lightened up when she felt his cold nose touch her fingers.

Surprised, she glanced down and found him sitting at the end of his leash, his nose moving across the tips of her fingers and his tail swishing slowly against the ground. She allowed her fingers to move up his muzzle slowly then across his fuzzy head. He closed his eyes for a second before turning away and heading towards his food. He could no longer deny his stomach telling him it was time to eat.

"I guess that means I'm dismissed..." Sango muttered under her breath.

Inuyasha didn't give her a second glance as she turned away from him. He made quick work of his food and turned to the water. He opted to only take a couple of 'sips'. Who knew when someone else would be along to feed or water him. 'Kami I hate being so fucking helpless.' He shrugged slightly and turned to his sheep dog blanket. Though he'd never admit it out loud, it was damn comfortable.

He sat staring at a bone Kagome left near the blanket. He hadn't touched it before but man was he having the urge to chew... The glanced around as if making sure no one was around to see him then crawled slowly towards it. 'Well... I'm a dog. I should maybe act like a dog so Kagome doesn't think something's wrong with me, right?" He reached over and drug the bone back to the blanket and began to gnaw on it contentedly.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kagome laid down in the cool darkness of the Nurse's break room. 'Finally... Sleep...' It had been a long shift and thankfully there was finally enough of a lull between accident victums she could lay down and close her eyes.

She winced as the door suddenly crashed open. "Kagome! There's been an accident on the freeway! Seven cars totalled. We need your help!" Rin was gone as fast as she had come.

Kagome rolled off the bed and sighed "Fourteen more hours! No problem!" She ignored the fact she wasn't speaking to anyone in perticular and kept walking. It was almost time to see how the woman in 314 was doing anyway.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Iiiinnuuuu!!!! IIINNUUUUUU" Inuyasha rolled off his blanket in time to see Souta come through the door. He wagged his tail slightly at the boy's appearance. "Hey Inu!!!" Inuyasha was taken into a tight hug by the boy. He just sat there and took it. It was all he could do anyway.

"Let's go play, Inu!" Souta took off running and Inuyasha followed at a quick walk. He reached the end of his lead and Souta frowned. "It doesn't give you a whole lot of room to run does it?" He looked around as if checking for anyone watching then turned back to the dog infront of him seemingly deep in thought. "Promise not to run away?"

'Yes kid. I'm really going to answer back.' Inuyasha growled inwardly with annoyance. Souta suddenly reached to his neck and he felt the lead fall away. He looked down and found what looked to be a cut of belt of Kagome's. 'I suppose she didn't have any collars on hand.' Souta smiled and pulled out a stick. Inuyasha watched him wave it around with glee. Finally Souta threw it and Inuyasha took off after it at full speed. Which with a broken leg and stitches in his neck was actually pretty good.

When he reached the stick he sniffed it slightly and turned back to Souta. The boy looked quite disappointed. 'There is no fucking way I'm fetching that.'

"No, Inu. You have to bring it back to me..." He walked over to the dog and the stick and picked up the stick again. When he threw it Inuyasha ran after it once again but refused to pick it up. Souta walked over again. "You're awesome at this game..." He grumbled sarcastically and threw the stick again.

The game of 'chase the stick' went on for a little while longer before Inuyasha suddenly stopped and sniffed towards the steps. The fur on his back raised and Souta suddenly froze at the unearthly growl that rose from deep within his chest.

A tall man with long dark hair and a smirk rose above the top step and smiled at Souta. "Hello. You must be Souta." He gave a breif nod of the head.

Souta nodded slightly but stayed behind Inuyasha who seemed to have the right idea. "I'm here to pick up some information from your sister. May I come in?"

'No fucking way, Naraku!' Inuyasha upped his aggression towards the man infront of him. He appeared unruffled as he spared Inuyasha a glance.

Souta finally found his voice. "I'm sorry, sir. I don't know who you are and I am under no circumstances allowed to let anyone in unless my mother or Kagome is here. Neither of them are here so I'm afraid you'd be better off coming back later." He began backing up slightly and Naraku followed much to Inuyasha's loud displeasure.

'You're not fucking getting in, bastard. Now leave before I have to scare the shit out of this kid for good.' He knew no one could understand him and that was just making him more frustrated.

Naraku advanced more and smiled down at the boy. "Are you sure? She sent me over specifically for these papers.

Souta shook his head. "Sorry, mister but I can't do it." He was beginning to smell of fear and that was just putting Inuyasha more on edge. What would Kagome do if she found out Inuyasha let her brother into the hands of the most vile bastard on this side of the planet? Not that she knew what he was capable of anyway...

Naraku reached out to Souta and Inuyasha snapped. He launched himself onto Naraku's body, effectively pinning him to the ground. He caught the arm he reached towards Souta with and began shaking it violently while snarling.

Souta jumped forward and wrapped his arms around Inuyasha's neck. It hurt but Souta finally managed to pry Inuyasha away from Naraku.

Naraku jumped up as fast as he could and cradled his wounded appendage to his chest. "You'd better tie that dog up before the city gets involved. They put dogs down then they attack people." he spat angrily. It took a lot to make his voice not shake with rage.

Souta glared back. "There are also laws about coming onto property and trying to come into people's houses too." None the less he drug Inuyasha over to where he had been tied up the past few days and re-tied him up. In the time Souta was turned away tying Inuyasha back up Naraku had fled to the street.

Souta re clasped the 'collar' around Inuyasha's neck. Careful to avoid the stitches he held in his neck. "Oh gods Kagome's going to kill me!" He shook and stared at the dog who's front was covered lightly with flecks of Naraku's blood. His muzzle looked the worst. "I'd better clean you up!"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

'Only three more hours. C'mon, Higarashi, you're made of tougher stuff than this!' It was becoming her mantra throughout the night as she counted down the time she was on her shift. She had gotten maybe an hour's sleep here and there but it had been sparing considering all the injuries coming through the ER.

"My Gods we're more busy than usual!" Rin sighed and took a second to rest against the Nurse's station. "I've been covered in blood and other icky things five times tonight. FIVE TIMES!"

Kagome could only nod in agreement as she stopped to catch her breath. She too had been having the night from hell. Hojo came over and handed Rin and Kagome four more clipboards each. "Not again!" Kagome sighed and looked down at the first clipboard and immediately regretted it.

"A dehydration Hojo, really?" She wanted to slap him. He was the 'Head doctor' and she found herself doing all the work that he should have been able to do in his sleep.

"I have to catch up on my paperwork!" He smiled and walked away whistling a happy little tune.

"Ten dollars says he's getting you back for getting onto him about the pregnant woman earlier." Rin sighed as she looked down at her own stack of clipboards and groaned.

"Food poisoning. Who doesn't enjoy vommiting at this time of day?" Her voice was think with sarcasm as she turned away from her friend and walked towards the cubicle her patient lay in. "Sorry Kagome, we'll have to catch up later!!"

Kagome nodded and went over her own list of things to do and people to see. Amazingly since she had encountered Naraku earlier over the Homeless woman (Who now slept peacefully and maggot free) she hadn't seen hide nor hair of him. 'Maybe he's hiding in his office...' She turned into the first room on her list. "Okay, sir. what seems to be the problem today?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

'What was that?!' Inuyasha sat on alert outside of the shed. It was well after midnight and Kagome had yet to come home. To be honest he was starting to get quite worried. 'She said she'd be gone for a long time but this is just stupid.' His ears twitched towards another unseen sound and he sighed. Something was putting him on edge.

He stood and began to pace while contemplating Kagome. 'She was dressed as a nurse. From my experience Nurses can tend to have super long shifts. Maybe she's still at the hospital or something?' His nose twitched and he cursed inwardly. He was standing upwind from everything so whatever was around -if there was anything- was out of scent range. 'Fuck fuck fuck I HATE this!'

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kagome slid her punch card though and removed her stethoscope. This shift seemed to have taken her forever. Rin followed suit a few minutes later looking just as unsettled.

"My gods I have a date in ten hours..." She moaned. There was no way she was going to be nearly ready enough for it. She plopped down in a near by chair, laid her head back and closed her eyes.

This perked Kagome up slightly. "A date? With who?" She sat on a near by bench to take off her shoes and switch them with her 'street' shoes.

"Oh this gorgeous guy from upstairs. He actually runs the pharmaceutical company that supplies us." She blushed and smiled. She had to admit. He looked great. "His name is Sesshomaru Takahashi." She lifted her head and looked at Kagome.

Kagome grinned at her friend. "I suppose he's got money too, huh?" She joked. It was Rin's plan to one day marry the richest guy in the world and never have to work again. Everyone knew that even if Rin did manage to do that she would never stop working. Even though the hours sucked Rin loved working and helping people too much to stop. Kagome was the same way.

"He's the head of a pharmaceutical company, what do you think?" Rin giggled. "I'm not going out with him for the money though. There's just something about him that I love. Everyone else that has met him hasn't really liked him. I just think that's because he's not very talkative and when he does talk it's more of an order than anything." Rin's voice faded as Kagome thought about the name.

"Sesshomaru... I've heard that name before. Wasn't he the guy that stopped by a few weeks ago to 'review our facilities' or whatever Naraku said?" Yeah. She remembered him. Rin was right. He wasn't very talkative.

"That's him. Naraku made me give him the grand tour of the floor and introduce him to all the patients his medicines have helped. By the end he told me he was taking me out Friday afternoon." She smiled wistfully.

"He just said he was going to take you out? No questions asked or anything?" Kagome looked disbelieving at her friend. Usually when someone tried pushing Rin around she pushed back. She stood up and placed her things in her locker.

"Yeah, he pretty much ordered it and as weird as it sounds I liked it. He's the take charge type. I think for once I'll like not being in charge of everything." Rin also stood and placed her things in her locker. "Let's get the hell out of here, shall we?" She lead the way out of the Nurse's locker room.

Kagome shook her head and followed. "Next thing you know she'll tell me she enjoys being tied up..."

The door swung closed behind her as she followed Rin. Finally, it was time to go home.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Inuyasha hadn't stopped his pacing and prancing back and forth. Something was very wrong. He stood at the end of his lead barking furiously in attempts to ward whatever it was off. 'FUCK! I can't believe I'm resorting to this!' He ranted but he still continued to bark and snarl.

Kagome was starting to think she should have taken a cab when she finally rounded the last turn to get to the Shrine. Her feet were killing her. When the stairs finally came into sight she started moving faster in hopes of making it to bed sooner. She started taking the steps two at at time until her feet REALLY started hurting. She slowed and finally made it over the top steps to see Inuyasha barking furiously.

"Inu! What's wrong?" She moved towards him concerned. He looked stopped barking and ran towards her, sniffing her all over. She smiled and ran her hands through the soft fur. "You must be starving!" she glanced over and saw his food bowl had been drug from the shed. She quickly reached over and grabbed it. "I'll be right back."

She turned away and pulled her sweater tighter around her shoulders. The wind began to pick up to almost a howl. It was loud enough to drown out Inuyasha's whining and barking.

'No! Don't go in there! KAGOME!' He continued to bark and lunge hoping some how he'd pull free of being tied up. Kagome obviously couldn't hear him over the wind that had picked up as she continued to walk towards the house without looking back.

He paused long enough to look towards the second floor roof. Kagome had just shut the door and turned on the kitchen light when he noticed the movement. 'I KNEW someone was there!' The figure jumped from the main roof to the small roof just under her bedroom window. They tried the window and it slid open soundlessly. Without a glance around they crawled through.

Inuyasha went ballistic. He barked and howled and whined. No one could hear him. Finally the wind died down enough for him to hear the breaking of glass and a very feminine shreak. The kitchen light shut off.

He tugged and lunged and pulled but the rope wasn't about to break. Finally he ran hard enough to flip his body around so he was facing the shed. The loose tie Souta had placed around his neck almost slipped off.

'Here's my chance!' Inuyasha backed up towards the house and wiggled his head. Finally the hold lid over his head and he was free.

Immediately he turned around and barreled towards the house as fast as he could. There was no way he could get through the kitchen door so he opted for the window. He ran at full speed and jumped effectively crashing through the glass head first.

A/N: BAM Another chapter finished. And faster than last time too! This next one is going to take a lot more work considering I don't have as much planned out for it just yet ;)
