Before He Bites
“Never take life seriously…Nobody gets out alive anyways!”
-Not Irish…sadly

The bear youkai charged Kagome as she rose from her spot in the dirt. The demon had landed a hard punch to her upper jaw just as she had landed a kick to its torso. Throughout the battle the demon had changed from its youkai form to its human form. At the moment it glared and growled at her from beneath blood and dirt.
“You will never defeat me, little miko-bitch.” The bear's long body paced forward as it opened its jaws to take a bite from the miko. She stood and right when the youkai reached her she kicked her foot up and sent it flying into the air.
She wiped the blood from the cut on her upper lip and let out a horrendous growl of her own. The Shikon glowed from between her breasts, silently aiding her with its power and voice.
“Kagome…you have to stop!” Sango's eyes filled once again with tears as she watched the bear youkai land in front of her best friend. She angrily tried to elbow jab Miroku as he held her back.
“Sango, you have to let her do this herself.” He wrapped a more secure arm around her, loving the way her body fit against his.
The bear youkai got up, its body prone and defeated. It let out a long whine before transforming into a man once again.
Kagome's mind finally cleared. Her miko powers finally subsiding so that she could truly see what destruction she had done. The youkai was breathing shallowly, its arms and legs broken and sprained from blow after blow.
Looking down at herself, Kagome find only the youkai's blood on her clothing, and several cuts on her bare legs and arms. From within her mind she heard the Shikon Jewel speak:
“Now, Protectoress, you must make a decision. The youkai's life is waning, and its bitter soul will not know of any heaven with Kami. You know what you must do.”
Kagome walked forward and fell to her knees by the youkai and took his head into her hands, laying it on her lap. His eyes were open, wide and glazed over. She looked at him, not with pity, but with hope. She closed her eyes and felt for her miko powers in herself.
A bright light rained from the heavens atop the pair. The youkai's lungs lifted as the breath of life was returned to his body. The blood and cuts vanished; the clothing soiled with death disappeared, leaving a very handsome…and very naked bear youkai in her lap.
Kagome blushed as she looked down at the bear youkai; his golden eyes were open and looking directly into hers. There was no hatred, no darkness, but only a soft kindness to them. He rolled to his feet.
“Miko,” The voice was strained but strong, “Thank you.” The bear youkai stood, and raised his arms above his head. “I feel…blessed to have fought you.” He flexed his healed muscles, taking in the lovely miko before him.
“Now, I must ask you…” He leaned down beside her, all naked and golden. He stopped at that and looked towards the direction of the city. A large crash followed by the sound of dropping trees sounded in the distance.
Kagome looked up at that, her eyes frozen in fear.
“Kagome! What's wrong!?” Sango tore away from Miroku, who was still struck by what Kagome had done. She had…had given life. He shook his head. He knew of only one Priestess who had don't that and she had vanished in the….no she couldn't be related to her. He, too, jogged forward.
“He's coming!” Kagome jumped up, her eyes wide with fear. “It's InuYasha, we have to move!” Dragging hand through her hair, she looked at the bear youkai, grabbed his hand and ran forward.
“Come on…” She stopped for one minute, “What is your name?”
The puzzled bear youkai looked towards her; Sango and Miroku were already on Kirara's back, yelling for her to hurry.
“You, my dear, may call me Hayate.” He bowed before her, his muscles rippling and hard. Kagome blushed.
Hayate kneeled before her. “It seems that we are following the other two, we must hurry. The demon is approaching fast.”
Kagome looked hesitantly had his naked back and...assets. She was about to refuse when she heard something call out her name in an enraged voice. With no choice she climbed onto his back, shrieked when he grabbed hold of her bare thighs, hitching her higher up his back.
“Well, Miko, let's go!” Without holding back, Hayate ran forward, nose in the air. They ran, the sounds of disaster slowly fading, and with a sigh Kagome relaxed into Hayate's back, laying her head down and enjoying the feel of the wind. He smelled like her powers still, the pureness lulled her into a soft sleep as Hayate continued to jump from the ground of limbs, and back.

InuYasha lifted his head, letting out a roar of rage. She had escaped, again. He smelted the air, and felt his Beast snarl with outrage. There was the scent of another male in the area. Their scents were mixed, as though they were touching. The male was old enough to know of mating, but yet denied his scent on her.
He stormed forward, hair whipping around him. Blue eyes rimmed red with blood lust.
She continued to deny his alpha status; she continued to go against his orders. He felt his youki rise up in him, felt the power of his demon take over once again.
“Kagome! You will not get away with this!” With a snarl he leapt forward, following the scents of his miko mixed with the bear.

The sky had grown dark, the sun a beacon of light on the horizon. With a sigh Kagome awoke to find herself she pressed against the back of Hayate. He turned his head, brown hair whipping around his face to look at her.
“Ah, Little Miko, you finally awaken.” With a laugh at her blush, Hayate set the young miko down. Sango and Miroku had built a fire, along with that; Kirara had hunted and brought back rabbits and hares to eat.
“Kagome, can I talk to you?” Miroku stood, his robes wrapped around his ankles, and he snarled under his breath. He didn't know how his kin had taken wearing these dreaded robes for five hundred years. He sighed; it had just felt right when he had changed into them before coming to get Kagome.
Kagome nodded and sat beside him, feeling the rocks and dirt dig into her still open wounds. She heard him ask about how she healed Hayate and she shrugged, she didn't know. He went on to talk about a woman, but couldn't help but follow Sango.
She laughed under her breath when a very flustered Sango tried to help fasten some type of clothing for a very bemused Hayate. Noticing that Miroku had quieted, Kagome looked towards him, and found his eyes bright with anger and followed them to a very bright faced Sango. Hayate had used the pelts of the rabbits to create something akin to a loin cloth. His light eyes jumped up and for a brief moment Kagome thought she had seen something like hatred in them when he looked at Sango.
“You must be careful, young Protectoress; the new addition to your group has two very different roads in front of him. One that wants greed, the other that wants happiness, he will have to choose which he wants more. Protect the Shikon very carefully around him; the Shikon Hunger still thrives within his demon blood. If he chooses the road that leads to happiness, you will be able to trust him. If he does not, then run…run from him!”
The shout from the Shikon had startled a calm Kagome from a sound sleep. Her back was facing the group but she felt something looking at her. With a slight twist of her body she tipped her head to look over her shoulder and found a pair of eyes watching her carefully. Hayate eyes, Kagome thought, he's watching me.
But it was something strange. One eye was dull, but soft. The other was bright, the Shikon Hunger very present. She noticed that the blood of battle had returned to half of his body, leaving the other clean and pure.
`This is the war that the Shikon means,' Kagome thought.
From the corner of her eye, she saw him get up with lightning speed and jump on the tree above her. With eyes open wide, he stood above her on that limb, hunched with Shikon Hunger, watching her.
She kept her eyes closed, her breathing controlled, as though she did not know that he was there. But she did not sleep, no she would not.
Throughout the night she thought she felt drool drip from his lips onto her, thought she felt his horrid laugh fill the air.
Morning came early, and Kagome jumped from her sleeping bag. Sango and Miroku had already packed the camp and tried to cover their scents. Worried, thinking about the night before; Kagome looked around and found a very clean Hayate standing next to Miroku.
“Are you ready Little Miko, to leave?” Hayate spoke softly, she shook her head, puzzled. With a sigh she walked after Miroku and Hayate, Sango by her side. With a sigh, she shook her head and told herself that last night was just a dream.
“No!” The Shikon yelled, startled Kagome looked down to see Hayate's footprints, one bloody and dirty. With a gasp to followed it to see the cut she had landed on his ankle the day before bleeding, and suddenly the smell of urine and death found its way to her.
Looking up she found Hayate looking back at her, eyes glazed over and fangs dripping with hunger…
