Kagome whimpered with pain as she slowly climbed out of the well, her bloodied and bruised body finally crumpling on the wooden floor of her well house. It wasn’t even an hour ago when she was brutally torn away from the feudal era; the shocked look in Sesshomaru’s eyes as she disappeared from his arms was imprinted into her mind.

Flashback
“Wow! It’s finally over, I can’t believe it!” Kagome exclaimed as she held the finished jewel in her hands. It had taken three years to complete this jewel and now it was finally done, her quest was finished. She had come to the decision the day before that she would go visit her family and stay in the feudal era with Sesshomaru and the others, it had become her home and she felt like she…belonged there with them.
The final battle had been brutal; all of them would have scars from it, including Sesshomaru, Koga and Inuyasha. Naraku hadn’t held anything back as he launched a surprise attack on the group. They had been discussing battle plans when he did attack.
Half of the village had been destroyed by the vile hanyou and they all promised to help rebuild it once the battle was over.
As she held the jewel, her brown eyes looked over each of her companions before finally landing on Sesshomaru, a demon who she had fallen in love with and smiled at him. Her eyes drifted to Kohaku’s and Kikyo’s lifeless bodies lying with those had fallen in the battle.
“I have come to a decision on what I’m going to wish for, it had taken a bit of time to think about and for it to be truly selfless and in order for this wretched thing to be destroyed, I knew that I couldn’t wish for anything to help me,” Kagome stated softly.
“I wish that everyone who had been affected by Naraku’s evil deeds have a second chance at happiness, to start anew in this world that has been rid of that vile being,” she said softly and then the jewel glowed and encased her in a soft pink light before she had fallen unconscious.
Inside the Jewel:
“Kagome, child, wake up,” a soft, melodic voice caused her to launch up off of the ground. “Where am I?” she asked, looking at the outline of a feminine figure coming towards her.
“You are inside the jewel, sweet one,” the voice spoke again before appearing in front of the young miko.
“Midoriko-sama?” Kagome’s eyes were wide as she stared at the ethereal form of the woman who had been locked inside of the jewel for so long.
“Your wish was enlightening, child, I have been watching you for a long time while you put this thing back together and I expected that no matter how pure your thoughts were, that the wish would end up being selfish and I apologize for not having any faith in you,” Midoriko said before continuing.
“Your wish will be granted, Kikyo and Kohaku will be brought back to life and Kikyo will have her own soul and those who have been affected so deeply by Naraku’s evil will have a better life; you have done such a wonderful job of protecting us and we have come to a unanimous decision to make you our permanent protector. The jewel will fuse with your body, never to be used for evil ever again; this will also cause your life-span to increase to that of a youkai’s but you will remain human,” the older miko informed her.
Kagome’s eyes widened, “we do not want to fall into the hands of another up and coming miko who has no idea how to even fend for herself, and end up being broken or used for evil purposes,” she said and smiled at the miko. “I am afraid that there is one thing I cannot allow, Kagome,” Midoriko’s smile turned sad as she looked upon the younger girl.
“What do you mean?” Kagome asked but she had a good idea what she was about to say.
“You do not belong in the feudal era, Kagome; you need to reside in your own time. I know you have found love in that demon lord and it breaks my heart to do this to you but you will rewrite history if you stay in the past any longer; I will stall the gods for a few minutes for you to say goodbye but make it quick, they are not patient,” Midoriko stated before disappearing.
Outside of the Jewel:
“Kagome?” Sesshomaru stared down at the miko he had rushed forward to catch before she had fallen to the ground. He let out a breath he did not know he had been holding when her eyes fluttered open, sad brown meeting his gold.
“S-Sesshomaru…,” she trailed off, not knowing how to say goodbye to him. She turned watery eyes to her concerned feudal family and swallowed thickly. Time was short and she couldn’t form any words and she immediately felt her body being pulled towards the well.
Her eyes darted to Sesshomaru’s as he stared at her in shock, then she looked down at her own fading form. “I love you guys,” she said quickly. “I’m sorry…Sesshomaru…I,” she couldn’t finish her words as she was ripped from his arms and hurled towards the well.

Kagome shook her head, tears falling freely as she slowly got up, she had been trying for the last hour to get back into the feudal era, but the well had lost all of its magic. Placing her hand on the old wood, her lip quivered before she limped out of the well house and towards the shrine.
She stopped at the god tree, walking up to it and putting her hand on the trunk. “I love you, Sesshomaru,” she whispered softly, remembering all the nights they spent at the Goshinboku, laying on the ground, looking at the stars and talking to each other.
The miko sighed, willing a fresh wave of tears away as she turned away and continued her trek to the shrine.

A couple months later:
It had taken 2 months for her to heal mentally and physically, her heart hadn’t healed yet though. She had no idea if Sesshomaru was still alive, if had found a mate or if he had…perished.
His words came back to her, “No demons, Kagome? I’m sure they are still alive, just under concealment, I bet if you went back right now, you’d find a whole bunch of us; I’m fairly certain that we wouldn’t die after only 5 centuries,”
The miko nibbled on her lip as she shook the thoughts from her head, she couldn’t think about that right now; she had a job interview and she was almost running late as it was. She had moved away from the shrine and resided in an apartment in Kyoto.
“Hold the elevator please!” she called out as a gentleman pressed a button to keep the doors open. Kagome rushed inside, her heart pounding and chest burning as she rested against the wall. “Thank you so much,” she said breathlessly. She had woken up late and then she couldn’t get her car to start, then she ran into every red light in existence on the way to the company.
The tiny woman couldn’t believe her excitement when she had gotten the call from the secretary of the owner saying that he was interested in hiring her for his personal assistant. She was also informed that there would be many applicants that would be waiting with her; he would interview each personally before coming to a decision at that time slot.
Tanayami Corp. was a leading electronics company that made millions in only a few months. When she got to her floor, a couple of the other girls being interviewed looked at her with a cocky look on their faces because she was a little late. The miko smiled sheepishly at the secretary, “I’m so sorry I’m late, I had so many difficulties this morning, the name’s Kagome Higurashi,” she said.
“Yes, ma’am, you are the last to arrive, which means you better get inside now, he’s waiting for you,” the secretary stated. Kagome’s eyes widened and she gulped before heading to the office and knocking, hearing a rough ‘enter’ before she pushed the heavy doors open.
Shutting the door behind her, she looked around the office before her eyes fell on a rather familiar face.
