She felt pain all over her body, she desperately wished she could fall back to that deep sleep where she felt nothing and thought of nothing. She heard some one enter.
“Ms. Higurashi? How are you doing this morning?”
She heard the nurse draw the curtains back and she tilted her head to the side and squinted, even though her eyes were shut she could tell it was bright. Opening her eyes slowly she looked at the nurse.
“W...what happened…why am I here?”
The nurse cleaned her catheter and talked too cheerily for Kagome's liking.
“Apparently Ms. Higurashi you had an overdose. You probably feel really achy right now, that's because the doctor had to pump out your stomach.”
The nurse took Kagome's arm and checked her blood pressure.
“That looks better, it seemed like you were highly stressed, now rest here and I will see about you getting something to eat alright.”
Kagome just turned her head to the side. Coming fully aware of what she had done made her feel more ashamed and more depressed. She heard the door open again and turned toward the person entering. Miroku stood there looking a complete mess. His clothes were just thrown on his body and his hair looked as if he hadn't washed or brushed it in days.
“Miroku…I'm…”
“Please don't.” He said with quiet defeat. Kagome's eyes watered up she couldn't even keep count with how many times she's cried through the years. She watched Miroku come to the side of the bed and look out at the window. The sun shone so brightly against his gray face and Kagome suddenly saw how he's aged from all the stress that was placed upon him. She started when his quiet voice eerily broke the silence in the stale room like a hammer.
“Kagome, I know that what I have done to you was wrong. I should have just accepted my loss and grieved alone instead of making you feel sorry for me. It was an accident that I have tried to rectify for eighteen years. But damn it woman couldn't you forgive me?!”
Kagome laid there and cried silently. They were quiet with their own thoughts and grief. Kagome opened her mouth to say something but Miroku stopped her.
“Don't say another word to me Kagome. I read your journal I read what had happened between our daughter and Inuyasha. I read how you longed to be in her position and how you hate her for it. But that is not the first time you felt such hate for our daughter is it?”
Kagome's eyes went wide with shocked horror.
“Yeah that's right I know what you did, your mother told me. I drowned myself that night in sake and women punishing myself for causing you such grief that you would hate the only thing…the only one thing that came out so beautiful in our betrayal. I couldn't believe that you hated me that much… I wanted to be a good husband to you Kagome. After you sacrificed so much for me…but…it doesn't matter now does it? My dearest Kagome no matter what we do we wind up hurting each other…”
Miroku's chest began to grow a tight ball and restricted his breathing. His pain no longer able to be held back by the damn he tried so hard for so many years to keep up finally burst with a powerful force. “I…I really wish now…that…you…you'd left…me to…die! If…I had…you…you wouldn't…hate…”
Miroku broke down and cried, he cried harder than he ever thought he could cry. Kagome felt his despair and cried too for this was all her fault. She never got over the horrible thing she had done. She had acted like a monster that day and there was no excuse for it.
“Why…why are you telling me this now Miroku?”
“Because… I've always felt guilty for going to those women Kagome, you've looked at me like I was a scandalous creature. You acted as if you've never been unfaithful to me… but you have Kagome, in your heart of hearts you wished I was Inuyasha every time you thrusted your hip toward mine you wanted it so bad to be Inuyasha you could taste it and then you'd open your eyes and with dissatisfaction you'd realize that I wasn't him. You don't have to deny it for like I already stated I've read it in your journal. Yes, that hurts, but…but how could you, you could hate me all you want to but to hate our child…”
“Miroku…it isn't like that…I don't hate you, I don't hate Hotaru…I'm just…Please don't say it Miroku…I know what I've done was horrible…I do love you I do…please forgive me…please…don't say it…oh god Miroku please don't say it!”
Kagome was crying so hard that her sobs were becoming uncontrollable it was hard for her to even breathe. However, Miroku shook his head.
“I'm sorry lady Kagome…I'm sorry for so many things…I've gotten past what you've done and excepted it as my fault alone, but…when I read…you still harbor those feelings…I thought at first that maybe it was something else…but no…”
With tears in his eyes he looked down at what used to be his cursed hand.
“It should have been me to have died that day, I was cursed…no correction I am cursed that damn jewel…I'm sorry Kagome. When you come home…we can't go on this way…I will leave you to your freedom. You're free of our daughter and now you'll be free of me…I'll go back down the well and…receive my retribution from Inuyasha.”
Kagome choked on her tears as she felt a piece of her walking out of the door.
`No no this is not how it's supposed to be…no this can't be happening…Miroku?'
“Miroku! Don't leave me Miroku, Miroku! Miroku!”
She became hysterical and pulled the IV out of her body and fell to the floor trying to get to the door after her husband. He had to forgive her, he had to. Miroku stood at the other side of the door clutching at his heart and shedding his tears. Hearing her scream out his name was torture. He wanted to go in there so badly and just hold her and say everything was ok, that he takes it all back, that he didn't mean a word of it, but he couldn't she's hurt him too much when he tried so hard to desperately make it right. He had to prepare for a war to get his daughter back and once she was safe…
The nurses rushed past him and he watched as they brought her back up to the cot and sedate her while she begged for his forgiveness, but with empty eyes he turned and went back home to meditate.

Inuyasha was walking towards his room after a run outside. He always felt better after a run when his mind was troubled. It was like flying for him and it cleared his mind. The talk they had at the table upset him when he told his brother and Shippo that he had accidentally slept with the wrong alter. Both of them called him an idiot one silently the other just as loudly as he did when he was just a pup. But they were right he should have sensed it.
However, he sensed something in his soul, perking his ears and sniffing he turned from his door and began to jog toward Shippo's wing when he heard the kitsune scream out as if everything counted on the one scream.
“Hotaru!”
Inuyasha ran and burst through the door to see Shippo in pain floating in the air with a dark purple energy flowing around his form. Inuyasha's demeanor changed within seconds. His claws stretched out and using his youki he directed a red whip toward the one holding Shippo hostage in a death grip. It hit her face and drew blood, he smiled.
Hitomi used one hand to touch her face and then looked murderously in the direction the assault came from.
“That's right bitch put him down, if you're mad at someone be mad at me you damn wench.”
Hitomi snarled and used her powers to make Shippo scream out.
“Is that anyway to talk to your wife? He'll pay for that.” With that she used a lot of her ki toward Shippo and the screams he was emitting caused Inuyasha's blood to chill within his body. Hitomi looked at the now weak kitsune.
“Die.”
Battered and covered in blood Shippo looked at her, no through her and smiled.
“Hotaru…it's alright…it's not your fault…”
Hitomi winced in pain for just a glimmer of a second before she started cursing everyone in the room, cursing her life, theirs and she vented another strong ki toward Shippo's direction. Shippo screamed out until it died and his body fell at Inuyasha's feet. Hitomi stood panting with wide eyed lunacy as she stared hated daggers at her husband. She felt the aura in the room shift and looked around and then stopped again at Inuyasha. She couldn't see his eyes as he stared down at the young limp body before him.
Inuyasha was full of unfermented rage his youki exploded throughout his house and Hitomi felt it. She smiled, there was a reason she was attracted to him. His deep raw power unleashed and it made her drunk.
“So tell me are we going to have our first real fight my love?”
Calmly Inuyasha voiced out as he looked up at her. He was as hot as the fires of Mount Fuji but as cold as the ice that sat on top of it. With eyes unreadable and a hint of malice to the thin smile that stained his face in a threatening voice he answered her.
“Yeah, I guess we are and you're going to find out that I have a very bad temper.”
In a speed she didn't even realized he had he knocked her to the floor making her do a back flip before she hit it causing the air to fly from her lungs. Using his whip he wrapped it around her throat and pulled her to him making the weapon eat into her skin as she was brought to him, just so that he can face her. Tears were in her eyes as she struggled to try and loosen his hold on her.
“Why…why won't anybody love me?” She rasped as her eyes were beginning to dim.
Inuyasha refused to answer her all he saw was the woman who killed Shippo and who was in the way of his Hotaru. Staring down at her eyes he thought `maybe there is no way of curing her. Maybe my brother was right; I have to let her go.' As if sensing a need that was deep within him he saw Hitomi's eyes shift and he was now staring into Hotaru's soul. He slackened his hold for just a minute. `it could be a trap, she could be tricking me.' He thought.
“Inuyasha kill me…I can't bear this any longer…Shippo…Miaka…”
Fat tears were sliding down her small pale face and Inuyasha felt the impulse to brush one of them away when he suddenly felt another aura filter into the room.
“Do it brother, end her pain, this is honorable this is as it should be.”
Feeling the heavy hand upon his shoulders as if to comfort him Inuyasha wanted to scream, he wanted to throw things, he wanted to kill, yes, he wanted to kill…but he didn't want to kill his mate, yet how things were looking he had no choice. Focusing his youki he caused the red whip around her throat to burn her skin. He saw the tears flushing down her cheeks and he bit on angrily with bitter hate. He should have listened to his own law never fall in love with a woman.
“You are doing the right thing Inuyasha.” He heard his brother say. Hot tears were falling from Inuyasha's angelic face even though his face was like death itself. He watched as her countenance began to drift into unconsciousness.
“Goodbye…”
He felt a hand grab his wrist; stunned he looked away from his mate and saw Shippo weakly beseeching him.
“Don't Inuyasha...H..Hotaru..”
Inuyasha let go of the whip and caught Hotaru's limp body as Sesshomaru looked on with curious disdain.
“Ms. Higurashi? How are you doing this morning?”
She heard the nurse draw the curtains back and she tilted her head to the side and squinted, even though her eyes were shut she could tell it was bright. Opening her eyes slowly she looked at the nurse.
