The swirls of spiritual energy clashed and banged against each other giving the wild life around the area a chance to flee for safety. Both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru watched as the two forces measured each other waiting for either one of them to make a move.
Hitomi used her powers to summon a Shokanju of her own. “It wouldn't be fair if I didn't have a weapon now would it.”
“No matter the weapon you can't defeat me. Every story has a happy ending Hitomi.”
“Hotaru if you've noticed, this isn't a movie or a story. Only the survival of the fittest rules the earth. The weak are there to allow the strong to prey on or do you not watch National Geographic or Animal Planet?”
With that she struck Hotaru across the face with her weapon causing a cut to open. The blood ran down her cheek and dripped to the ground and Hitomi gave up a pretty smile.
“See, you didn't even try to block it.”
Hotaru looked at the girl standing before her sadly. “I'm sorry Hitomi, I'm sorry that mom tried to kill you. But she wasn't well…she suffered greatly from depression and guilt. ”
Hitomi's eyes closed over with the darkest storm to ever cross the oceans. “Shut up! Are you making excuses for that bitch?! You're so damn pathetic!”
Hotaru shook her head as tears welled up in her eyes. “It's over, Hitomi you've been weakened. There isn't much more you can take. Please stop this and join me.”
Hitomi gnashed her teeth and flew up into the air Hotaru joined her. Hitomi began to kick, punch and throw blows with her weapon as Hotaru blocked each one in a very rapid pace. Even with youkai vision it was hard for Inuyasha and Sesshomaru to keep up. Soon they were flying higher until they were out of sight completely because of the sun.
As both brothers stared up in the sky wishing to know what was going on being that both of them were not ones to stand there in a midst of a battle and do nothing soon felt a slight tingling on their skin as a bright light flashed through the sky. It was so bright that they had to shield their eyes by crouching on the ground to find darkness. They heard countless youkai screaming in pain and that sound caused them to feel all-embracing fear in the marrow of their bones. Their ears burned with the screams of youkai around the world. Their terror increased when they felt something pulsate through their hearts. A slight sting penetrated them as if searching the depths of their very soul, feeling this they shivered in nothing short of unadulterated fear as they kept hearing the cries of their species filter the atmosphere until their cries were no more.
“What…what happened?” Inuyasha whispered to fearful of whatever that was would search him out again.
“It appears that many youkai have been purified and we've been spared.”
They watched as the glow around them started to flicker out. Everything seemed so deafeningly quiet.
“Does this mean that Hitomi has been…well where is Hotaru?” They both looked up in the sky and soon Inuyasha was rewarded with a figure falling slowly.
He caught Hotaru in his arms and hugged her to him. She smiled faintly as her eyes kept fluttering like two butterflies weakly preparing for flight.
“What happened Hotaru?”
Feebly she responded taking pauses in between her speech. “We are of one mind and one body…”
“What does that mean Hotaru?” Inuyasha asked. Hotaru looked up into the clouds and flashed back just moments before.
“Hitomi you've got to give up this fight, I will not let anyone hurt you anymore, I'll stand by you…I promise…stop fighting me.”
“Don't you get it Hotaru? What can you do for me, you're weak. I've been the strength behind you. I did what I had to survive and yet that makes me evil huh? Well, than I guess I am it would make sense since according to mother's journal the jewel was still tainted and never purified, well, I don't want to be purified now. I want to stay evil…I'm evil and proud of it!”
Hotaru shook her head in the negative. “No…you're just Hitomi, Hitomi, I'll stand by you and you will stand by me. We'll never desert each other. You and I are two sides of the same coin… Hitomi…without you I'd be incomplete don't shut me out…please…I need you and you need me. The sun and the moon live together in the universe; they coincide though they never meet. There purpose is to be unified in bringing balance to the earth. You and I are that the sun and the moon and at certain times really early in the morning we are out together and at certain times at night we are out together. We can do this.”
Tears were falling down Hotaru's face her eyes swollen with the thought of losing a part of herself. Knowing fully what was in her alter heart she continued to fight stronger trying to save her enemy, friend, sister, self. Hotaru deflected the last blow and Hitomi looked up with angry tears stinging her eyes. “Don't you give me that look, don't you dare pity me, don't you dare cry for me… don't you give me that fucking you're the sun and I'm the moon shit. I'm evil incarnate remember, I want you dead I will not let you shut me back into the pitch blackness again. I'm free now! I will not go back into the darkness ever again!”
Angry tears shed her eyes as she fought with the last strength of her powers. She wanted to live; she wanted to feel the sun on her face and most of all she wanted to be loved.
“Hitomi…it's time…I promise…I'll not let you go into darkness again. We will both be in the light…don't leave me…I love you Hitomi. That's right...I know what you want the most, it's the same thing I want to be loved. I love you Hitomi. I need you to love me too. If we love each other we will find happiness.”
The girl had no more fight in her, her weapon disappearing from her hand as her powers were waning. Hitomi smiled bitter sweetly through her tear streaked face and fell into Hotaru's embracing arms. “You've become stronger, I was right the strong do survive.” Hotaru smiled at her. “Than I guess we both will keep living because I am not going to let you go…ever.”
Hotaru circled her arms around Hitomi and kissed her on the lips tenderly. “I love you, you are me and I am you. You are me and I am you…I love you. We are the sun and the moon, the moon and the sun. We will both be in light and darkness together forever.”
She kept repeating that saying until Hitomi joined in on the mantra and a soft lavender light engulfed them into the one cocoon. All was quiet within their chrysalis they could only hear each others thoughts.
“You do know we'll have unlimited powers?”
“Yes, I do and we will make sure we use them correctly.”
“What should be our first wish?”
“For all who possess a good heart to live in the light with us.”
“That sounds like a good wish.”
Soon their purple ball turned white as they meshed together into one soul and bright light flashed through the sky.

“And then I found myself here.”
“So where is Hitomi now?”
“I am Hitomi and Hotaru…I am the Shikon no Tama, I am whole. Inuyasha…make a wish like you were meant to. Once I'm freed I'll be eternal for I am not human, nor am I youkai, I am just me.”
Sesshomaru looked at the naked girl that lay in his brother's arms. He still felt the immense powers radiating off of her in spades, but it was calm, more controlled.
“What becomes of you once he makes that wish?”
“I don't know.”
She looked up into Inuyasha's very confused face and tenderly touched his cheek.
“Hotaru I don't understand. Why am I making a wish?”
“Because, Kikyo promised it to you and as the jewel it was heard. That is why it kept coming back, why we kept coming back to you. It was promised and so…it must be fulfilled to completely purify me.”
Soon specks of lights started to circle around her and she appeared to shrink down and become once again the shiny bauble that so many yearned to obtain. Sesshomaru watched intently. This was all going to be written down in the archives for future reference.
Inuyasha looked at the jewel within his palm as his bangs hid his eyes away from his brother's vision. His heart was broken. All of this happened just for this jewel. And what was he supposed to wish for now.
`Damn it the only thing I want is Hotaru back, I want her back, give her back to me.'
The jewel glowed in bright pinks, purples and blues and soon just vanished.

“What the hell happened?” Inuyasha screamed out frantically. He didn't care who or what heard him. He searched the sky, the ground, under the rocks.
“Inuyasha what are you doing?” Sesshomaru asked he watched his brother going mad before his eyes.
“What the hell does it look like, I sure aint' sitting here just scratching my damn ass now help me look for her, she's here somewhere I know she is…she's not gone…I made the damn wish Hotaru now get your damn ass back here!”
Inuyasha kept looking in the shrubbery when the two brothers felt an aura. They both walked toward one particular spot where green light was floating. Soon they saw the lights twirl together and formed a body that they believed never to see again.
Sesshomaru knelt down and with a finger poked at the body. It was unbelievable the power that he just witnessed. Not even his Tensaiga could do this.
“I don't believe it even with my own eyes I don't believe it.”
Inuyasha stood rooted to the ground like an old oak tree. Shock and unbelievable joy was swelling up his heart in seconds with hope.
“Shippo?”
The kitsune opened his green eyes and smiled. “I knew it would all turn out ok.”
“How do you feel?” Sesshomaru asked out of curiosity. The body was completely gone and now, it was back.
“I feel like I was in a thousand and one pieces if not more. No really, I feel a little disoriented since I still remembered how I died and how I was…put back together. Yet, I feel light hearted, like…I don't know how to explain it. I never have to fear again or fight again for that matter. Do you feel it?”
Sesshomaru actually knew what he was talking about in his latter statement. The need for fighting was no longer in him. The need to own the world was no longer in him, though he was still ruler of the youkai land he just felt like he could be at peace now no longer feeling any threats to him, his territory or his family. Sesshomaru stood up and looked into the sky using his ki he searched the youkai dimension and felt it's atmosphere he traveled to his mate and pups and felt their happiness and their worry free state of mind and for the first time in only Kami knew how long did he smile a truly lighthearted smile.
He began to walk away leaving the other two where they stood. He had a family to go back home to. Hotaru and Hitomi combined and searched out the hearts of all youkai that was what it was that he was feeling. And obviously, he wasn't as evil hearted as he thought he was. There was good in him and that was why they protected him when they sent the others to their graves.

“Inuyasha.R 21;
“Shippo?”
“I was told to tell you something when I got back here.”
Inuyasha looked up at his old friend hopeful.
“Is Hotaru alright? Is she coming back to me?”
Shippo smiled and nodded.
“She wants for you to go to the well and back to her time. She said she'll be waiting there.”
Inuyasha grabbed Shippo in a vise like hug. “I'm glad your back you brat. Next time…don't let your enemy get you I've taught you better than that.”
“Keh, I'm not that easy to get rid of…”
Shippo was cut off when he smelt the salt of Inuyasha tears. “Inu…yasha?”
“Oi, shut up, it's not what you think alright…I just got something in my eye. Demons don't cry remember.”
Shippo hugged him back tears of his own shinning through. “I know how could I ever forget. Now go on, your mates waiting for you and I'd like to go and hug my wife and soon to be kit.”
Inuyasha watched as Shippo fell through the crack of the dimension and disappear from his sight. He had one more thing he had to do.
“Jeanie.”
Inuyasha felt her hands hug his waist and her purr. “Master.”
His eyebrow twitched. “I have one more wish to make.”
She removed her hands and prostrated herself before him.
“Yes Master.”
“Jeanie my third wish is for you to be free and find your own happiness.”
Her emerald eyes lit up and her saucy smile broke over her face in joy.
“Really, really, I'm free?”
Inuyasha nodded. She kissed him flat on the mouth and hugged him to her. For a little thing she was strong. He smiled as he watched her disappear to find her own happiness with joyful tears in her eyes.
He walked over to the well and sat on its lip. He sat there and reminisced on everything he's been through up to this point where he finally felt at peace with his own heart.
`Miroku…Kagome…what can I say…knowing who she was and why she came back…It's like it's almost all my fault. Kagome…I hurt you the worst and I'm sorry for that. I know you never meant to hurt me. If I can make it up to you…no I will make it up to you.'
“Hotaru here I come.”
He jumped into the well and found himself in that dimension of time travel and then back inside the well on the opposite end where the future resides. He looked up to see Hotaru standing over the lip with a flash light.
“You kept me waiting.” She smiled shyly.
Inuyasha jumped up and as soon as he reached the topside he embraced her and kissed her. “I kept you waiting? You had me going crazy looking for you…I thought…I thought you left me.”
Hotaru shook her head and he watched as her raven locks shifted and a gleam in her lavender eyes twinkled with mischief.
“Hotaru?”
He got laughter.
“Hitomi?” He said a bit more worriedly.
The girl climbed up on him and began nuzzling his neck sending off an aura that confused him.
“Who…who are you tell me are you Hotaru or Hitomi?”
Soon he felt a pain on his neck.
“OW what the hell!” He pushed her back a little.
“Who am I you ask…well…I'm naughty….”
She began to lick on his wound and than kissed it sweetly.
“And nice…I'm a perfect blend of…well…I don't know what I am only that I'm…”
“Perfect.” He finished. “You are mine Hotaru.”
And with that he lifted her up and kissed her deeply planning on never letting her go again.
