Chapter 6
A week had passed and there had been no sign of Seshoumaru. He had not been present at any of the meals. Slowly Kagome started to relax. Rin adored Kagome. The servants had been told to be respectful to Kagome. Besides for Jaken, whom Kagome ignored, Kagome had no real reason to be uncomfortable in the huge castle. Rin had given her the tour of the whole castle. She had been very excited to have a `new' friend.
Kagome was sleeping soundly, when a large clap of thunder startled her into the world of the living. Groaning, she buried her face into the silk sheets and covered her head and ears with the pillow, trying to muffle the thunder but to no avail. Suddenly the loud creaking of her door drew her attention.
Rin stood in the doorway, clad in a thin nightgown, small blanket in her hand, whose end was trailing on the floor. Her innocent wide eyes were brimming with unshed tears. Kagome immediately jumped out of bed and ran to the child.
“Rin, what's wrong?”
Rin just loked at her and then rushed into her arms, “Rin was scared. The wolves came back and Seshoumaru-sama was not there. The wolves hurt Rin.”
Kagome realized that the child had had a nightmare and she folded her arms around her and carried her back to her bed, “Rin why don't you sleep with me tonight, hm?” Rin looked at her friend, smiled shakily and nodded. Kagome climbed into the bed and pulled the blankets over her and Rin. Rin cuddled up to her and slowly drifted off to sleep while Kagome remained in thought. Slowly, sleep overtook her too.
**&*********&****
Kagome opened her eyes blearily. Despite the fact that there were no windows in the room, she could sense that it was daylight. She yawned and stretched like a cat and suddenly became aware of a small warmth pressed by her side. Looking down she saw curled up into her stomach. She looked so adorable yet so vulnerable, that Shippo was reminded of the times when Shippo would snuggle up to her at night. The very thought of Shippo brought tears to her eyes. She missed the little kit so much. He was like an adopted son and she knew he regarded her as his mother.
Rin yawned widely and opened her eyes rubbing the sleep out of them(A.N; That's such a cute picture ne?) Kagome smiled at her tenderly, “Come on Rin. Time for breakfast.”
With that she gently pushed the child off the bed, and stood up. Rin looked around the room curiously, “Kagome, why don't you have any windows?”
Kagome shrugged, as she opened the closet and went through the kimonos that Seshoumaru had given her. “We'll just have to ask Seshoumaru that, now won't we? Now shoo. I need to get ready and so do you.” Rin smiled widely, already forgetting her question and ran to her room, while Kagome changed into her kimono and sat in front of the dressing table that Seshoumaru had sent to her room. She looked at her reflection.
`Have I changed? Inuyasha, what are you doing right now? Are you thinking of me too? Or are you with Kikyo, angry that I escaped'
“Miko.”
Kagome jumped, startled. Turning around, she saw Lord Seshoumaru's wide frame in her doorway.
“Seshoumaru! Were you trying to give me a heart attack!? You should not have surprised me like that! Honestly, have you ever heard about knocking?”
Seshoumaru looked at the woman, amused. Instead of cowering in fear, she was reprimanding him like a small child. He snorted inwardly.
“This castle belongs to this Seshoumaru. This Seshoumaru does as he pleases.” He replied in a bored voice.
Kagome's scowled at him, “So maybe, you have a point there. But you can't just invade someone's privacy you know. It's considered rude, you know.”
Seshoumaru sighed. “Stop this infernal prattle woman. The half-breed is at the castle gates. He is demanding to see you.”
Kagome instantly shut up. Her face turned white as a sheet as she tried to steady herself by holding onto the edge of the table. Seshoumaru noticed her reaction and could smell her fear. She asked in a small voice, “Are you going to hand me over to him?”
Seshoumaru almost felt guilty for frightening her. Gone was the cheerful woman, full of life. In her place stood a trembling woman, whose love wanted to kill her.
Seshoumaru sighed, “Woman, this Seshoumaru has given his word to protect you and he does not go back on his word. Now come. Your comrades have something very interesting to tell you.”
Kagome followed with her head bowed, and she mumbled softly, “That's what Inuyasha also said to me before he tried to betray me.” This was not meant for Seshoumaru's ears, but he heard it and gave no response.
Kagome followed him to the gates. The gates were closed and very high. Even Inuyasha couldn't jump over them. Inuyasha and the others stood on the other side and though the others looked worried, Inuyasha looked sorely pissed.
However, as soon as he saw Kagome behind Seshoumaru, he yelled at his half brother, “Seshoumaru, you bastard! Let Kagome go! How dare you kidnap her! Just who do you think you are!?”
Seshoumaru was getting annoyed by his half brother's antics, “This Seshoumaru kidnapped no one. The miko is here of her own free will.”
Inuyasha suddenly noticed something strange. Kagome, instead of saying something, was cowering behind Seshoumaru as if Seshoumaru …… was protecting her! He also noticed that Kagome looked very scared….of him, Inuyasha!
In a softer voice, he looked towards Kagome, who flinched visibly and asked, “Kagome, what's wrong?” Kagome didn't answer him. Tears were now falling from her eyes. She hid behind Seshoumaru.
Seshoumaru, if he noticed what Kagome was doing ignored it, and spoke in a disgusted voice, “You should know, half-breed. Betraying her to a pot of clay, you think she wants to come near you? She asked me for protection when she heard you planning with your undead whore to kill her.”
Inuyasha eyes widened as he read the pain of betrayal in Kagome's teary eyes. “Kagome, that's not true! You know I would never betray you like that! Kagome! Please believe me!” He rattled the gates, in an attempt to break them, but to no avail.
`I can't lose her!' he thought franctically.
Miroku decided to intervene at this very moment. “Lady Kagome, when exactly did you hear this `plan'.”
Kagome whispered brokenly, “When I returned a week ago.”
Miroku's eyes widened in surprise, as did Sango's and Inuyasha's.
Then Kagome received a shock as Miroku carefully said,
“But Inuyasha has been in our sight since you were gone.”
