Chapter Fifteen

Deception

Midoriko’s POV

Kagome rushed over to her mother’s side and grasped her hand. “Okaasan it’s so good to meet you again. Are you alright?” She nodded her head softly. I’m a little weak, but I’m alright. How are you Kagome?” Just as she asked this Hiro started to stir. Kagome’s eyes began to fill with tears as he sat up an looked at her sleepily. “Who are you? You look vaguely familiar.” He asked the teary eyed demoness. Midoriko looked at her mate in horror. “That’s Kagome dear. It’s our daughter you’re looking at.” His eyes widened in realization and he let out a gasp as Kagome encased him in a bone crushing hug.

“Tousan…When I was in the modern era I never had a father. I always thought he was dead….” she sobbed into his haori. He wrapped his arms around her and ran his hand up and down her back to try and calm her. “We didn’t want to leave you in the modern era aijou. We thought it was the best thing to stay there.” Midoriko glanced over to them and nodded her head. “We didn’t and you to be hurt. You were safe with Katsuki and her family.” Kagome looked up at her father. “didn’t you think how I’d feel? I’ve always felt like something was missing but I’ve never known what it was!” tears ran down her face and she stared at him.

Both Midoriko and Hiro’s eyes widened. “God’s no Kagome! Of course we thought about how you’d feel. It was a last resort decision for us and you weren’t going to be safe anywhere else. You were so young then. We were fighting so many youkai that endangered your life…”Midoriko trailed off and gasped softly as she looked over to the next bed.

Mira’s POV

In the next bed, Mira began to stir. Sesshoumaru looked at his mother’s face with masked worry. ‘Will she recognize me?’ was the thought that kept repeating through his head. She sat up slowly and blinked sleepily. Looking to Sesshoumaru she asked “Who are you? You’re not my Inutaisho.”

Mira looked next to her and found her mate sleeping lightly on the bed. She continued to look around and saw Hiro, Midoriko, and a young demoness sitting on the bed across from them. ‘what is his name? Why does he look so much like my Inu?’ Sesshoumaru glanced over to his mother again. “Are you alright hahaue?” he asked softly. Mira’s eyes widened in realization. “It can’t be…Sesshou-kun? Is that you?

Sesshoumaru gave a small nod and let his mother hug him. She needed it and he needed it as well. He wouldn’t admit it to anyone though. He missed his mother more than anyone could imagine. As they parted, Mira looked at her son fully. “My have you grown Sesshou. I’m sorry that I wasn’t here for you….” Sesshoumaru shook his head. “It wasn’t you’re fault hahaue. It was that hiretsukan’s fault! He’s the one that went behind your back and had an affair with Izayoi. He got her pregnant with his pup and that sent you over the edge. You were so depressed that you left the castle…Miyuki said that you couldn’t take the heartbreak so you were heading toward Saiyaka. She said you wanted to be alone and as far away from him as you could get.” there was a surprising tone of anger in Sesshoumaru’s voice. Normally there wouldn’t be any emotion present in his voice and that surprised Kagome the most.

“Miyuki knew me so well…She knew that I couldn’t take the sight of seeing Inutaisho with the human princess so she didn’t tell anyone that I left. Just before I reached Saiyaka, a large group of panther devas appeared. I wasn’t up to my full speed or feeling well at all and they overpowered me quickly. The last thing I remembered was their leader’s face hovering in front of my own….He was demanding to know where the castle was. I couldn‘t tell him. I wouldn’t put my Sesshou-kun in danger…” She trailed off and was quiet. Her eyes traveled across the bed to her mate and hovered over him. ‘Why…I must know why did you leave me my love!’

Sesshoumaru’s POV

Sesshoumaru started to growl in anger as he looked at his sleeping father. As his growling got louder, Kagome started to get worried. She got up off the bed and sat in a chair next to him. Slowly reaching over and grasping his hand she said softly, “Calm down. There’s no need to get angry right now Sesshy. When he wakes up you can ask him whatever you want.” Sesshoumaru’s eyes widened at the sound of her silvery voice. It didn’t really register in his mind that Kagome was holding his hand until she gave it a squeeze. He looked into her dark sapphire eyes and nodded. Remembering that she was holding Sesshoumaru’s hand, Kagome let go and turned away looking anywhere but his molten gold eyes with a blush visible on her cheeks.

Midoriko’s POV

‘That’s so cute! Our little Kagome likes Sesshoumaru! I have to talk to Mira and we have to get these two together! She already has a nickname for him and he lets her call him it too….’ She looked over to Hiro and she was staring at Kagome and Sesshoumaru. ‘Dear, what’s wrong?’ Hiro continued to watch Kagome and Sesshoumaru and then tuned his attention to Mira and the now stirring Inutaisho. ‘Inutaisho’s waking up!’ Midoriko looked over to the next bed and waited for Inutaisho to awaken.

Mira gently brushed back Inutaisho’s bangs as his eyes opened blearily. As his vision cleared, he couldn’t believe his eyes. “Mira? Is that you? How can it be? The panther devas that captured you came back with your dead body…They said that you crossed them and this was your price to pay…How are you here? As a matter of fact, how am I here? The last thing I remember is fighting Ryukotsusei and a large group of youkai.”

Kagome’s POV

Kagome sighed and turned to the group. “I have the answer to those questions. Naraku, is a hanyou that is seeking the Shikon no Tama for ultimate power and to turn himself into a full youkai. You four all are here now because he had a necromancer resurrect you under a spell. He wanted you under his control and to have you destroy us. We destroyed the necromancer and found a counter spell for the spell that you were under.”

“What? We were resurrected? I can’t believe this! But the proof is right in front of me…Who are you ? You look familiar but I can’t place your name….” Mira said thoughtfully.

“My name Is Kagome I’m the daughter of Midoriko and Hiro.” Both Inutaisho and Mira’s eyes widened in realization as they looked her over. “I can’t believe it! You’re so beautiful now! The last time that we saw you, you were just a kodomo!” Mira came up to Kagome and gave her a hug. Inutaisho smiled friendly at her and nodded in agreement. “You used to love to hear me tell stories while you sat on my lap….You were so kawaii then…” Kagome blushed in embarrassment. Suddenly, the door opened and Inuyasha walked through.

Inuyasha’s POV

“So they finally woke up? Anything interesting they want to know?” he asked. Kagome looked at him in amazement. “You were supposed to come in here later Inuyasha! osuwari!” Inuyasha plummeted to the ground and groaned in pain. Inutaisho burst into laughter as he saw Inuyasha face plant into the ground “Kagome how did you do that?“ Kagome’s attention switched over from Inuyasha to Inutaisho. “Oh, to make Inuyasha face plant into the ground? Simple he has a rosary around his neck that Lady Kaede put a spell on. When I say the subjugation word, o-s-u-w-a-r-i, he face plants into the ground.“

Inuyasha growled irritably. “Itai…Kagome! Why did you do that for?!!” He yelled as he jumped up as the effects of the rosary wore off. Kagome sighed. “I already told you! You weren’t supposed to be down here! Go back to your room!” she yelled back in anger. Both Mira and Inutaisho looked at Inuyasha with rapt attention. “Inuyasha? My little pup? How much you have grown…I know your life must have been so hard for you…” Inutaisho trailed off with sadness laced through his voice.

Inuyasha scoffed then scowled angrily. “You don’t know how tough my life was old man. Just to survive I ate anything that I could catch. I was hunted by everyone. They all hated me. I always thought that I would have been better off dead but I kept on going. I couldn’t die. I had to find something to live for.” Inuyasha stared intently at him.

“Why didn’t you stay at the castle? I had Sesshoumaru promise me that he would protect you…” Inutaisho inquired.

“The bastard kicked me out…after mom died he said he didn’t want the chore of taking care of a hanyou anymore.”

Inutaisho looked over to Sesshoumaru. He was sitting in a chair next to the bed that they were sleeping on. Kagome was sitting down in the chair next to him also. “Why did you kick Inuyasha out of the castle? You went back on your word!”

All that Sesshoumaru did was stare at him coldly. After five minutes of silence Mira cracked. “You two will talk tomorrow…It’s getting late. Let’s get ready for bed.”

The group nodded and exited the room heading for their own rooms.

Akira’s POV

‘Chikushou! Now I’m never going to get what I want! Midoriko, Hiro, Inutaisho , and Mira are resurrected from the dead and they come back to their lands…Kagome comes back from the future to claim her throne that I’ve been taking over for many years….What will I do?’

Double crossing Naraku or Inutaisho and getting caught is risky and will put my life on the line…but to get what I want I’ll do whatever it takes! I’ll start with giving information to Naraku…I just have to find him first.

Wandering around the southwest border of the northern lands, miasma began to slowly fill the clearing. Akira began to cough and covered his mouth. He jumped on the tallest tree and called out “Naraku, I know you’re there! Show yourself!” The miasma cleared just enough to see a figure in the distance. He appeared walking slowly with his baboon pelt around him.

“Why have you come here Akira? Are you not allied with Sesshoumaru and his allies?” Naraku’s voice drawled out. Akira jumped down from the tree and stared at him. “I am allied with Sesshoumaru but that won’t be the way to keep the Eastern throne. I need your help.” he tried to sound convincing enough but he wasn’t sure it would work.

“And why should I help you? It would only benefit you not me.” Akira shook his head. “I can be a spy that will give you information. I can also give false information to Inutaisho…then you can set up an ambush and attack them from there.”

“You have some good ideas, plus you seem to be better at strategizing than the idiot youkai that I have with me now.”

Miasma surrounded them and the two rose into the air. The extremely toxic cloud raced southwest towards a dark, gloomy castle filled with demons.

Kagome’s POV

Just before the group parted to go to their rooms Kagome stopped and asked her mother to stop as well. “What is it Kagome?” Kagome’s tail swayed in anticipation. “You know the scroll that you put in the basket with me when you had Jaken take me to Katsuki’s? How much of it was the truth? I really need to know because what Inutaisho and Mira said tonight contradict some of the things that were written in it.” Midoriko sighed and leaned against the wall.

“I know exactly what you’re talking about We left some of the things out to protect you…Ryukotsusei and a large group of youkai appeared trying to destroy Inutaisho and you were just a child at the time, there wasn’t a safe place for you with him on the rampage. We had Jaken hide Sesshoumaru and take you to Katsuki. That was the only way that you two would be safe. He knew the perfect time to bring Sesshou out of hiding. Mira had left the western castle two days earlier like she said. She couldn’t take seeing her mate with the human princess Izayoi. A week later Inutaisho came with devastating news the panther devas that captured Mira finally found the castle and came back with her corpse.”

“So it was half truths then?” Midoriko reluctantly shook her head. “Hai. We all agreed that it was best. It wasn’t lies that were on the scroll, It just was a mix of things that happened.”

“What about Inuyasha? Where was he hidden?” Midoriko shook her head I’m not sure. We weren’t told where he was hidden. If you want to know, you’ll have to ask Inutaisho.” Kagome nodded her head.

“That’s all I need to know. Oyasumi nasai okaasan.” Midoriko smiled at her daughter and said softly. “Oyasumi nasai musume.” As Kagome entered her room she saw as sleeping Shippo on her bed. She smiled with motherly affection for him and leaned against the closed door. ‘Why do I have this sinking feeling in my stomach? I feel like something bad is going to happen…I just don’t know what it is and it’s not going to be good…I can feel it.’

Walking over to the bed, she found a sleeping kimono lying out on it. She changed and snuggled up to the sleeping Shippo. ‘I’ll talk to okaasan about this tomorrow.’ was the last thought she had before she fell asleep.
