Resurrection
He stopped walking all of a sudden, the icky toad demon running right into his leg. “Milord, I-I’m sorry.” he said cowering at his masters feet. Sesshomaru paid him no mind; he was more interested in the change in the wind. It was sudden and dramatic, as if to catch his attention. He turned his head slightly upwards and sniffed the air. ‘My brother.’ he thought. Sesshomaru was not in the mood to deal with his half-brother at that time. As he turned to walk away though, another scent caught his attention. It was blood, her blood. Now he was curious. This was the blood of the only other human on this planet he could stand besides Rin. Sesshomaru didn’t even know why he tolerated her; anyone else would have been dead after the things she had said to him. He would never admit it, but she was the reason he ran into their group so much. She intrigued him; she was a puzzle, an enigma. She filled his senses with the smell of sweet pea and spring rain, and it was her natural smell. He loved how her scent spiked when she was angry or determined or just when her emotions peaked out. She stood up to him even when she was afraid, she was brave and looked straight into his eyes.
“Sesshomaru-sama?”
“Jaken, stay with Rin. If anything happens to her you will experience a very painful death.” Sesshomaru didn’t even look at his retainer before walking away.
“Y-y-yes milord.” Jaken stuttered as his master walked away. He knew better than to question his lord and he would never cross him no matter how much he disliked the little ningen girl that followed them around. He knew Sesshomaru would keep his word about a slow death.
Sesshomaru turned to see Rin running towards him with a handful of flowers. “Sesshomaru-sama! Where are you going? Can Rin go?”
“No Rin, you are staying here with Jaken. Stay around Ah-Un.”
“Ok Sesshomaru-sama! I’m going to make you and Jaken-sama some flower crowns!” she yelled over her shoulder heading back towards the two headed dragon. He watched her go for a moment before turning and heading for the forest. He made his way through the trees, the stench of blood getting stronger as he made his way to the clearing. He took note of the silence in the area, as if everything was mourning the death of a great being. As he came into the clearing he looked around. She could not be seen but her sweet scent mixed with her blood was permeating from the well. As he walked closer he saw the pool of blood and the trail leading up to the old well.

Shippo knew a powerful demon as approaching. He readied himself for a battle. His fur stood on end and he started to growl. Shippo crept up the side of the well hoping he could surprise the demon and at least get a few good hits in before dying. Just as his little head popped out of the well Sesshomaru grabbed him by the back of his clothes and held him at eye level. They just stared at each other for a minute; Shippo couldn’t believe who he was seeing. Sesshomaru studied the boy, he was not afraid of him. That’s when Shippo began to growl.
“Are you not afraid of this Sesshomaru? I could kill you for your disrespect.”
“I don’t care; kill me if you want to! Just leave my mother alone.” Tears started to fall from his eyes then but it was just from sadness, no fear at all. There was no point in Shippo being afraid in anything anymore; it was his fear that stopped him from trying to save her. Now there was nothing to live for.
Sesshomaru jumped into the well Shippo still in tow. He dropped the kit and looked at the girl, no, the woman he had secretly come to respect. Shippo ran to her side to keep Sesshomaru away from her, but before he could do anything Sesshomaru spoke.
“What happened here?”
Shippo looked at the ice demon before him. His voice was as cold and emotionless as his face, but Shippo answered him anyways. “Inuyasha was the one that killed her. I don’t know why. There was nothing anyone could do to stop him, it happened so fast.” Shippo was crying, but he was distant. Sesshomaru was still fixated on Kagome.
“I thought he cared for this ningen.” it was more than a statement than a question. Shippo remained silent. He was in his own world and there was no bringing him out of it. Sesshomaru turned to jump out of the well. As far as he was concerned there was nothing else left to say or do. He didn’t care for the kit and the woman was dead. He looked up but right before he leaped out the sword at his side pulsed.
‘Tenseiga?’

“Kagome… ;Kagome…wake up child.”
She heard the voice calling to her, saying her name beckoning her out of the slumber she was in. It was a man, his voice was cool and calming as his words flowed into her ears. ‘Why do I feel so weightless?’ she wondered. Kagome slowly opened her eyes to see such a bright white all around her she thought she should be blind. It was so pure, so warm. It felt like home almost, like she was always meant to be in such a place. As she rose to her feet she wondered what the heck she was standing on. She knew something was off, but couldn’t put her finger on it.
“Kagome…”
She jumped at the sudden break in the silence and turned to see who was talking to her. The sight of him made her gasp. He looked just like them, just like Sesshomaru and Inuyasha! He had the crescent moon, and Sesshomaru’s hair, but Inuyasha’s body build. He was taller though than the both of them, and looked to be older. She could see the age in his eyes, Inuyasha’s eyes. ‘Is this their father?’ she asked herself.
The mystery man walked towards her and smiled. “Hello Kagome. I am Inu-Taisho.”
Kagome smiled back. “I kind of figured that, you look just like them.” She was comfortable with this man. He exhumed kindness and love, and she knew she could tell him anything. “Where am I? What happened? Am I dreaming?” She had so many questions, but where could she start?
“Calm down child.” He almost laughed at her. She was very pretty but kind of naïve. Kagome looked at him; there was understanding in his eyes at her confusion. “Do you remember anything Kagome? Really try and think back.”
Kagome closed her eyes and tried to remember the last things that happened before she was here. “I was going to the well with Shippo; he was coming with me to see my family. Inuyasha had brought Kikyo into the village and said she was going to stay for a bit and I didn’t want to stick around to see them together. Shippo and I had gotten to the clearing and then he yelled at me to look out.” she was getting a little worked up at this time, everything was coming back to her and she knew where this was going. “I turned around just in time to see Inuyasha right before…before…” she couldn’t finish. Kagome looked at Inu-Taisho. “This can’t be true. I can’t be dead, he couldn’t have killed me.” she sat on the nothingness below her.
Inu-Taisho moved to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She was sobbing; she knew it wasn’t all a dream no matter how much she wished it to be. He held her to him and just let her cry, the heart wrenching heaving sobs she couldn’t hold back. She eventually calmed down enough for him to speak to her.
“Kagome. Do not hate him child, for what he did was not by his own will.”
Confusion stirred in her bloodshot eyes. “What do you mean? He killed me! With his own two hands, well really one that he impaled in my stomach!” She was shouting at him. How dare he tell her how to feel when the one person she cared most for, that she loved murdered her. Inu-Taisho touched her forehead instantly silencing her. A scene began to play out in her head, a movie of what had really happened. “Watch child.”
---Kagome was in the field with Shippo heading towards the well. She was hurt and mad at Inuyasha. ‘What the hell is he thinking inviting her to stay with us? Does he not care how any of us feel about her?’ She knew something was not right about the whole thing. The look in his eyes was intense, almost pleading with her to understand something. She needed time to think, back in her own time away from the hanyou she cared so deeply for. Kagome was too lost in her thoughts to sense the danger. “Mama! Watch out!” The sound of Shippo’s voice caused her to turn around just as Inuyasha slammed his claws into her gut. ---
Inu-Taisho stopped the scene on that moment and looked at Kagome. She had watched the whole thing and was now holding her stomach as silent tears fell down her cheeks.
“Why? How could he do this? I thought he cared for me, I mean, I know he doesn’t love me, but I was his friend. We’ve fought before, I just never thought…”
“Kagome, look at him. Look at his face, his eyes.”
She looked the picture in front of her eyes. She looked at his face, even though it hurt to. His face, it was contorted in pain. His eyes, he was openly crying. Tears covered his face.
“He is crying.” she whispered more to herself than the man standing next to her.
“Yes, he is. Really look into his eyes Kagome. What do you see?”
She searched his eyes, the emotions running through them. Pain, sorrow, pleading. There were so many different things in them, but not one being hatred or anger. He didn’t hate her.
“He didn’t want to do it, did he?” Inu-Taisho shook his head. “But…but then why?”
“Look at the rosary”
Kagome looked closely at the necklace that had been around Inuyasha’s neck from the first day she met him. Wait, the beads, they are blue! And the fangs, they are black! She turned to the great demon before her. “This is not the original one. This is not the one he always wears.”
“Kikyo removed the one that you controlled. Since she has a part of your soul the rosary allowed her to. She put this one in its place, one that only she can remove. She is controlling him Kagome. Inuyasha had no choice but to do as she said.” He stared at the young miko as everything started to click in her mind.
It was all becoming clear. That’s why he said she was staying with the group, that’s why he killed her. She knew there was something wrong; she just didn’t push it like she should have. Now she was angry, no she was pissed. And then something occurred to her. “My Lord, you never did tell me where I was. If I am dead shouldn’t I be in hell or nirvana or something? This obviously is not either.”
Inu-Taisho grinned at her. She may be naïve, but she was also quite smart. “You are right Kagome. You should be in one of those places if it was really your time to go.” Kagome raised an eyebrow at him. “I have kept you here at the border between life and death. I wanted you to see this before you went back. You have a destiny Kagome, and two souls to save. Listen to me Kagome, do not hate him, and do not let him break you. Help them Kagome, save them from themselves. Listen to your heart it will always lead you in the right direction. Don’t deny it what it truly wants.”
“What are you talking about? Who?” Kagome was confused, again. That’s all today was, a cluster-fuck of confusion.
Inu-Taisho laughed. “Everything will make sense in its own time. Just remember to not hate and stay strong. You have a long and difficult road ahead. Keep those you love close and everything will be alright. It’s time for you to go now Kagome. I am glad I got to meet you, you are perfect for him.”
Before Kagome could ask anything else he disappeared in a swirl of blinding color, and then all was dark. And painful, my god was it painful. Wait, pain? That could only mean… air in her lungs, her heart beating. She was alive. Kagome might have been happy about it except she passed out from the immense pain.
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------
Sesshomaru turned again to look at Kagome. ‘Tenseiga? You want me to save this woman?’ Almost in answer to him the sword pulled again. Shippo began to freak out when he saw him unsheathe the sword. “Leave her alone you bastard! She is already dead! Please just leave my mama alone!”
Sesshomaru looked at the boy with a look that said shut your mouth or die. Shippo understood that look and shut his mouth. Sesshomaru noticed something then; Kagome did not smell of death. She still smelled sweet and even though she also smelled of blood there was no death upon her. ‘She was not meant to die?’ As he looked at her the hell minions appeared. With one swipe of the sword they squealed in pain and were gone.
Shippo was crying almost hysterically until he heard her gasp for air. He saw her chest rise and fall with her ragged breaths. They were uneven, but she was breathing. His mom was alive again. The wound in her stomach began to heal as well. He looked at the great dog demon standing before him. What would he do now? Shippo just bowed low at Sesshomaru’s feet. There was no taking back what he had said and done before, and he never would, but this man just brought her back from the dead. He heard fabric rustling and looked up to see Sesshomaru holding Kagome with his good arm. The two youkai looked at each other for a moment before Sesshomaru jumped out of the well with the little kit following behind. Shippo would follow his mother anywhere, and Sesshomaru hadn’t tried to run him off yet so there must have been a silent agreement.
They walked through the forest without ever speaking a word. As soon as they broke into the clearing where Sesshomaru had left before they were attacked by a ningen girl armed with floral crowns and an icky toad demon armed with, well, just his lovely self. “Jaken, go get Ah-Un, we are leaving.” Jaken nodded and ran to get the dragon.
“Sesshomaru-sama! You’re back!” Rin said right before stopping in her tracks. “Who are they? Are they coming with us? Did…”
“Rin. Enough.” Sesshomaru looked at the girl as she shut her mouth. “They are coming with us. She is sick so let her be. You and the boy here will ride on Ah-Un with Jaken.”
The kids and demon climbed on the dragon as Sesshomaru summoned his cloud. They took off heading further west, the children making small talk, well mostly Rin since Shippo had been through a lot. Kagome lay in Sesshomaru’s lap and he never once looked at her, though he wanted to. The sun was setting now, and over the horizon a large structure could be seen, at least a couple miles all around. It was Sesshomaru’s castle, his home, and the place where a new chapter in their story will begin.
