Bleeding Heart

Epilogue

Now, I don't think I could be a happier person.

It's been about a year since that night Rin did her "match-making;" and Inuyasha and I have been together ever since.

When I think about, it's seems stupid that all it took for us to express our feelings for one another was a little game that Rin had always loved to play.

My mother knows about our relationship, and what happened that week she was gone. I haven't seen Kurijo since that night in the alleyway; and I haven't been able to find him to press charges. I think he left town after Inuyasha found out about what had went on.

I recently received an acceptance letter to one of the best colleges in the state, and Inuyasha has decided to go to the smaller campus near me. It will be nice, because it will make it easier for us to see each other.

Sango and Miroku are the happiest couple I've seen. Sango's in her first year of college, her being a year older than me, and she just turned nineteen. Miroku is also in his first year of college, on a campus closest to Sango's. He secretly told me a few weeks ago that he plans to propose to her soon, despite the fact that they're both only nineteen. He said that it didn't matter their age, and that they were in love all the same.

Rin, being two years younger than me, and three years younger than Sango, actually began dating my younger brother; as much as I hate to say it. She's a year older than him, but that doesn't seem to bother either of them. My mom's seems happy for Sota, and I'm happy for the both of them.

Inuyasha and I have the next few years of our life planned out. I don't know about marriage, but we plan to spend every minute of our spare time during college together. All I know is that the feeling of happiness I have is like none other, and I wouldn't change a thing that has happened to me in the last couple of years. Even the incidents with Kijuro.

My mother's getting ready for the "going away" party she's throwing Inuyasha and I, which will take place in about thirty minutes.

For now, I'm sitting next to Inuyasha, his arms wrapped around me, on the couch, talking about what we expected the next few years to be.

He sighs heavily and looks down at me, his amber orbs gazing into mine. Brushing a few strands of hair out of my face, he says, "I'm going to miss not being able to see you every day."

I snuggle in closer to him, and close my eyes, content to be where I am. "Me too," I say softly. "At least we'll be close to each other..."

"Yeah, but it won't be the same."

"No, it won't be, but just think; the harder we work to get through college, the faster we'll succeed; which also means we'll get to be together sooner." And what I'm saying is true.

He just nods in agreement, and then we hear a knock at the door. We both get up and answer it, and find Sango, Miroku, and Rin at the front door, both with huge smiles on their faces and gifts in their hands.

I hug all three of them, and then hug Inuyasha as he captures my lips in a quick kiss.

Soon, the party's started, and we're all laughing, talking about the changes we've all brought on ourselves. But, the thing that still makes us all laugh the most, is that one night that Rin worked her "magic," and how it was silly that it took a childish game to make us admit everything to each other.

We eat dinner, and I open my gifts. I don't get anything too exciting; some new clothes and a few other random things, like pictures of us all together when we were younger.

The pictures make me cry a little, realizing that in only a week I'll be moving on, away from here; away from home. At least Inuyasha will be near; that right there is a reason to keep going on, and something that will make things easier.

I give everyone a hug and a kiss good bye, telling them all how I'll miss them so much, and I can't help but cry more. I'm excited to go off and begin my own life, but I didn't think leaving would be this hard.

After everyone has left, my mother announces to Inuyasha and I that she's going to take Sota to Grandpa's house and visit a bit so I'll have some alone time with Inuyasha.

Once she's gone, I throw myself into Inuyasha's arms and I can't control my sobs.

"It's okay," he says softly, running his hands through my hair. "We'll be still be close, and I'll see you as much as possible. I promise."

I pull away and look into his amber pools that are filled with caring, and smile. "I know, but...well, it's just that..."

"I know," he says. "I don't want to leave anyone either. And I especially don't want to leave you . But I promise you, we'll always see each other, okay?"

I nod and stand on tiptoes to bring my mouth to his. Before I know it, we're on the couch in a frenzy, kissing like we'll never see each other again. And even though that's how I feel right now, I know it's not true.

We finally break our passionate kiss for air, and I snuggle into his chest as he holds me close to him.

"Aishiteru, Inuyasha," I whisper.

"I love you, too, Kagome," he says. "And don't you ever forget it." He leans down to capture my lips in another kiss, and then smiles at me. I lay next to him for a while, and I finally hear his even breathing; I know he's asleep.

Things over the next few years may get a little difficult without having him by my side all the time, but for me, it's good enough. I love him more than I've loved anyone else, and I know he feels the same. I've never been as warm in someone's arms as I have been in his, nor have I felt as safe.

And though I might not get to see him every day during my college years, I know we'll always be together, because he's always in my heart; and he's all I think about. And that - having him with me in my heart and mind - is something I can't argue with, something I can't control, and something I can't complain about. Only something that I love; and I love him .

A/N: Well, there's the last part of Bleeding Heart ^_^ Sorry it was shorter, but after everything that went on between everyone already, it was hard to think of things. I'm actually really happy with the way this story turned out, and I'm surprised I actually finished ^_^ I've started many other fan fictions and then haven't finished them >_< Anyway, I want to thank all my reviewers, especially DemonicSlayer, for being my first reviewer and my very special-ful friend while I was writing this ^_^ Thanks sooooo much! ~DemonKirara00~
