Chapter 4

"Um, thanks Inuyasha."

"Feh. I'm your bodyguard, remember?"

Kagome looked down, slightly disappointed. She didn't know why, but knowing that the only reason Inuyasha was dancing with her was because he was her bodyguard, made her upset. `I guess his just forcing himself to dance with me'. Kagome sighed.

"What's wrong?"

"Oh. Um. Nothing."

Inuyasha looked at her with a puzzled expression, but didn't bother her about it.

~*~*~*~

"So how's being Kagome's bodyguard like?"

Miroku looked up. Sango was sitting next to him, a glass of wine in her hand. He felt relief pour over him. `Hopefully she's forgiven me'.

"So?"

Miroku blinked. He must have sort of dazed off. He couldn't help it. He felt like…what did he feel like? "Um, care to repeat the question?"

She smiled. `Oh god, what a smile'. "How's being Kagome's bodyguard like?"

"Um, good?"

Sango giggled. But her giggle was cut off by a high-pitched scream.

~*~*~*~

"So how has your evening been?"

"Shit."

"Ok."

"Yeah."

"How old are you?"

"19."

"Cool."

"Yeah."

"What school did you used to go to?"

"Can't remember."

"Um, ok."

"Yeah."

Kagome sighed, all night it had been like this. This guy just didn't seem to like to talk. They were currently dancing to a slow song. That's when Kagome noticed that Inuyasha was really tense. "Why are you so tense?"

"I'm not tense."

"Yes, you are."

"Not."

"Are."

"Not."

"Are."

"Not."

"Are."

"Not."

Kagome sighed. "This is going nowhere."

"I win. Ha.

"What?!"

Kagome felt her anger build up. "Why you…"

"Feh, calm down."

"Rrrrrrrrr."

Kagome heard Inuyasha mumble something. "What was that?"

Inuyasha looked away, so she wouldn't see his face. "Nothing."

"Tell me."

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"Pretty please?"

Inuyasha looked at Kagome. Mistake. She had that puppy-dog face on, bound to make any guy fall. He was no exception.

"It… was..um.."

He was cut off when he felt Kagome's hand on his cheek. `What?!?!' he felt his face grow hot. He must look like a tomato right now. "Um…ah..w-what are you doing?"

Kagome snapped her hand back, her face going red. "Um…I-I saw something on your cheek." `Man, that sounded stupid.'

Inuyasha blinked. "Oh."

Kagome frowned. There it was again. It was like this red dot. It kept moving. `If I move my head this way, I can't see it, but if I move it the other way, it's on Inuyasha's cheek'. "Um, Inuyasha…what's that red spot?" She felt Inuyasha stiffen.

"What red spot?"

"That one." Kagome moved to touch it.

"Don't touch it!" Inuyasha hissed.

Kagome jerked away. She had never heard him use that tone before. What did she do wrong? It was just some stupid spot.

Inuyasha saw the hurt in her eyes. "I'm s-sorr…" A movement in the corner cut off the rest of his sentence. `Shit'.

Suddenly Inuyasha grabbed her and threw them to the ground. Kagome's eyes narrowed. "What do you think your doing?!"

"Shut up!"

Kagome opened her mouth, about to speak, when she saw Inuyasha take out his silver gun.

"Stay down."

Kagome watched as Inuyasha tried to get Miroku and Sesshoumaru's attention. She watched as Miroku talked to Sango, and Sesshoumaru's eyes were all on Rin.

"Shit."

Kagome frowned. `What was wrong?' "Inuyas-" Her sentence was cut off, by an ear-piercing scream.

~*~*~*~

Miroku's head snapped up. "Shit." Someone was in trouble. He turned to Sango, he didn't want to leave her, but Kagome was first priority. "Sango, get out of here." He gave her a little push to the exit. But she stood firm, stubbornness creasing her features. "No."

"Sango-"

"No! My brother is here. No buts."

Miroku didn't have time to argue. Inuyasha already had his gun out, hiding Kagome from danger. He was needed. "Be careful."

Sango watched as Miroku dashed off. Everywhere, people were confused. Who screamed? Sango scanned the crowd for her brother, when her eyes fell on a lady. She was currently in the arms of a man…her blood pooling around her. Sango screamed. Somebody was shoot!

People seemed to read Sango's mind, as all of them looked towards the lady. Time seem to stand still, for a second. Before all hell broke loose. Chaos swarmed the place. Everywhere, people were screaming and running towards the exits.

Sango was pushed unceremoniously to the ground, as people fled the place. None cared if they trampled on her. She felt anxiety fill her, and it gave her the strength to stand up and head off to where she saw Miroku go. She was going to get her brother and get the hell out of here.

~*~*~*~

"Kagome, get under that table NOW!"

Kagome scrambled onto her knees and crawled under the table, as fast as she could. She felt her heart beating rapidly, fear choking her. `Shit. Shit. Shit.' She was shaking so much. She couldn't help it. All she saw was something really fast, whiz past her head and hit a person. After that, all she saw was blood and a flash of sliver.

Miroku took out his gun and pushed pass people to get to Inuyasha. "Is Kagome alright?"

Inuyasha nodded, and pointed to the table. "For now, at least."

Miroku nodded. He crouched down, scanning the area. He saw Inuyasha do the same. Suddenly, he felt someone poke him. Without thinking, Miroku spun around and directed his gun to the person behind him. Blood pounding in his ears, his gun landed on Kohaku's forehead. "Woah."

Miroku sighed. "Don't freak me out."

Kohaku smiled weakly. "Don't worry I won't." Suddenly, another scream was heard, as another victim fell down, their blood splattering the marble floor. Inuyasha tensed. That was too close for comfort. The killer knew exactly what they were doing. They were teasing him.

Inuyasha looked under the table and saw Kohaku. "Kohaku, get Kagome and run! Got it?"

Kagome's face became fearful. "What about you?"

Inuyasha became angry, his anger covering his other emotion. Fear. Not fear for him. But for her. " I'm your bodyguard. NOW GET OUT OF HERE!"

Kagome seemed reluctant. But the electricity was suddenly cut off. Blanketing everyone in darkness, the only light being the dull shine of the moon. "MOVE!!!"

Kagome started to tremble violently, her body going numb. Kohaku start to drag her to the exit, crawling under the tables. By now, practically everyone was gone. Leaving behind an eerie silence.

Kagome jumped as an owl hooted, her head banging against a table. Her senses slowly starting to come back to her, as her eyes landed on Sango. What was Sango still doing here?

~*~*~*~

Sango hissed in pain, as she stepped in broken glass. `Clumsy people'. Now, not only did she have a bleeding foot, there was a stupid red spot on her chest.

~*~*~*~

Kagome gasped. There was a red, illuminated spot on Sango! Leaving her common sense behind, Kagome started to run.

"KAGOME!"

Ignoring the calls for her to go back, she kept running. Nearly there…

Inuyasha felt his heart clench, as he watched Kagome stand up and start to run. What was she doing? He felt his legs start to move, as a red spot fell on her head. Using speed, he didn't know he had, he raced towards her. Dropping his gun, he collided into her and together they crashed onto the floor. Blood pounded through his ears. "D-d-don't EVER do t-that again." And with that Inuyasha fainted from blood loss, a bullet lodged neatly in his back.

~*~*~*~

Miroku watched as Inuyasha started to run, heading to Kagome at an inhuman speed. In the corner of his eye, he saw a black figure stealthily move through the curtains. Grabbing his gun, Miroku waited and set up his target. Nothing moved. Then…

~*~*~*~

Sango watched in horror as Inuyasha and Kagome went down. Blood started pouring out of Inuyasha's back, just where that dot used to be. Realisation dawned on Sango. Fear overcame her, rooting her to the spot. She was going to die.

Indeed, she was going to die… but not today. Fate had other plans. Sango watched as Kohaku rammed into her. A bullet wedging itself in his skull.

Sango watched in horror as her brother clung to her for support, blood spraying everywhere. Yet he did not move. He was hugging her, protecting her, with his body.

Another bullet was shot. More blood. Tears forming in her eyes, Sango watched as her brother's head slumped. Yet he did not move. He held on. He did not give up.

But there is so much one person can handle. There are limits, and as the third bullet entered his body, he finally fell. Giving his life for the sister he loved so much.
