Chapter 4

'Kagome is so fucking lucky, I love her...'

Inuyasha is holding on tight to the seat he was forced to sit in, his claws digging into the leather. When Kagome told him the only way to get to her healers is to get in the damn metal machine, he told her he would just run her there. The stubborn women said that wasn't going to be an option, so he just mumbled out a few curse words as he sat in the back seat of the car.

Mrs. Higurashi looked through the rear view mirror at her daughter and hopefully future son-in-law. She inwardly smiled, glad that Kagome seems to be making the smart choice by allowing Inuyasha to be close to her once again.

Kagome scooted as close to Inuyasha as possible, buckling herself in the middle seat instead of the seat by the window. For some reason, since they hugged and she cried on his shoulder not even an hour ago, she has felt super clingy to him. She feels safer with him right now then she has ever before. She just needs him to be near her, touching her, proving to her that she really isn't dirty...

Kagome grabbed Inuyasha's hand and clutched it in hers as she layed her head on his shoulder. She noticed his tense body immediately ease up as she did this. It made the smallest of smiles come to her face. She closed her eyes and breathed in slowly, savering the scent that is Inuyasha. Like forest and fresh rain. She loves the way he smells. She hopes she will never have to be separated from him ever again.

Inuyasha relaxed and forgot about the metal death box he is in when Kagome held onto his hand and rested her head on his shoulder. He looked down at her and smiled. He put his face into her hair and breathed in her delicious fragrance. He can't get enough of the beautiful woman next to him. He is slightly worried about the weight she had obviously lost and the bags under her eyes, but that can be fixed. All that matters right now is making sure she is okay at these future healers and then making her happy again.

When they arrived at the doctor's office and got out of the car, Mrs. Higurashi led them to where they needed to go. Kagome clutched Inuyasha's hand tightly the entire way. Inuyasha had a vague thought that if he was human, his hand would have broken from the force of her grip.

He turned to his left and looked down at the frightened girl hanging onto him as if her very existence depends on it. "Are ya alright, Kagome? They ain't gonna hurt you here, right?" He ended the sentence with a small growl.

Kagome looked up into his concerned eyes and took a calming breath in and out. "I... I'm fine. There is gonna be a small needle, but that's not really what I'm worried about..."

They walked through the doors and stood right behind Mrs. Higurashi as she signed Kagome in for her. She is still a minor so her mother must do it for her.

Inuyasha squeezed Kagome's hand and responded. "What are ya afraid of?"

Kagome looked away from him and shivered from the fear that racked her body. 'What if I'm...?' She shook her head out of those thoughts and spoke. "I just don't know what the tests will say. Na-" She cut herself off, unable to say the name of the man who hurt her. "That bastard could have done irreversible damage..."

The three of them moved over to sit in a more isolated corner of the office. Inuyasha did something she didn't expect. He wrapped his left arm around her shoulder and pulled her close to his body. She sighed contently as she snuggled her face into his warm chest.

"No matter what, Kagome... I ain't gonna leave. You'd have to kill me for that to happen."

Kagome quickly wrapped her arms around his torso and squeezed him tight. She shook her head as a few tears fell. "I'm sorry... I could have killed you." She remembers shooting him through the chest just a week ago.

Everything seemed to happen so fast that day. She can't recall exactly what was said between the two of them, only that she wanted him dead. She shivered at the thought.

Inuyasha looked down at the depressed girl in his arms and let out his call once again. The rumbly purr that is meant to calm his mate. This specific sound will only work on the one that is his true mate. He smiled smugly to himself when she relaxed in his embrace and looked up into his eyes.

"You weren't you, Kagome. It ain't your fault."

She nodded her head weakly before resting back into his chest. 'People keep saying that but... Would you still touch me knowing how much I wanted him?' She again, refused to listen to the small voice telling her she was manipulated and forced to think she was a completely different person who lived a completely different life.

About fifteen minutes later, a middle aged man with short black hair and brown eyes called her name.

"Higurashi, Kagome?"

Kagome grasped Inuyasha's hand tightly when her name was called by a man. She was really hoping to speak to a woman. She took a deep breath in and stood up. Inuyasha allowed her to cling to him as he walked next to her, Mrs. Higurashi followed behind.

The man smiled down at Kagome and introduced himself. "Hello there, Ms. Higurashi. My name is Isamu." He looked to the white haired man with the red baseball cap on his head and then back to the seemingly frightened girl. "I'm sorry, but only you and your guardian may come in."

Kagome immediately wrapped her arms around Inuyasha's arm and shook her head. "Please... I need him with me."

The male nurse was about to argue when Mrs. Higurashi spoke up. "I'm sorry sir, but this young man is my daughter's fiancé. He should be permitted entry."

Kagome blushed from the tips of her ears to her toes, but didn't deny what her mother was saying. If it allowed him entry, then she will gladly agree to that. Inuyasha intelligently stayed silent, for once allowing the humans to talk this out. One thing is for sure though, he will be staying with Kagome. No puny human will stop him.

Luckily for said puny human, he only nodded and spoke before he lead them out of the waiting room. "I am sorry, miss. Please, follow me."

Kagome let out the breath she didn't know she was holding as her hold on Inuyasha loosened just slightly.

When they made it to the small room, the nurse handed her a hospital gown. "Please, change into this. You can step behind the curtain there and I will be back in just a moment."

Kagome nodded her head and watched as he walked out and closed the door. She reluctantly let go of Inuyasha's arm and backed up slightly.

"I... I gotta get changed. I'm just gonna close this, okay?" She put her hand to the edge of the curtain and watched as he nodded in understanding.

She closed the curtain all the way before reluctantly getting undressed. She hates feeling naked. She wants to wear as much as possible, especially around unknown males... But she needs this exam. She takes a deep breath in as she changes into the gown.

Right before she went to open the curtain, she heard Inuyasha speak to her mother.

"What's a fiancé?"

Kagome blushed and face palmed as she heard her mother chuckle. Before she could prevent her mother from embarrassing her further, she heard her speak.

"It is what we say when two people plan to get married."

Immediately, Kagome ripped the curtain open and glared at her mother, her face rivaling that of a tomato. She managed a slight glance to Inuyasha, noticing his own small blush.

"Ookay... Enough talking about that..." Kagome awkwardly chuckled before sitting back on the patient bed.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome and then back at her mother. "You told them we are gonna get married?"

Mrs. Higurashi gave Kagome a sly look before responding. "Do you have an issue with that, dear? It is what allowed you to come in, isn't it?"

Inuyasha sputtered out a bit of nonsense before crossing his arms. He can't shove them into his Suikan because they made him wear modern clothes.

"F-Feh!" He crossed over to stand next to the bed Kagome is sitting on and blushed as he looked the other direction.

Kagome smiled slightly to herself, but still glared at her mother.

A few minutes later, the same man as before knocked lightly on the door before helping himself in. Kagome instinctually wrapped her arms around her body, feeling exposed while in such a thin gown.

Nurse Isamu smiled widely at her before looking down at his clipboard and then closing the door and walking to the other side of the room. He sat at the desk and signed into the computer. He typed a few things on it before turning to speak.

"So, I see you came in for a few tests. Is that correct?"

Kagome reached over and grabbed Inuyasha's arm as she nodded her head. Isamu watched the interaction warily.

"I must say, Ms. Higurashi, you do seem a little young to be getting married. Is this because of your recent choices?"

Kagome paled as she held onto Inuyasha tighter. Inuyasha noticed the change in Kagome's scent and the words coming from the weird humans mouth. He narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists.

"What the fuck is that s'posed to mean!?"

Isamu noticed the odd behavior of the couple and wrote down a few notes in both his clipboard and on the computer. When he turned back around, he spoke calmly.

"I'm afraid I'm going to need to speak with you alone, Ms. Higurashi."

Kagome gasped and held onto Inuyasha tighter. She shook her head really fast and burried her face into his chest as he let out his mate growl to calm her. Mrs. Higurashi spoke up while the couple calmed down.

"May I ask why it is you need to speak to my daughter alone?"

Isamu gave her a sympathetic smile. "May I speak to you in the hall for a moment?" Kagome's mother nodded her head and stepped out with the nurse.

"What the hell is that guy's problem!?" Inuyasha growled as he spoke to Kagome.

Kagome sniffled a few times before looking into his eyes. "I think he's assuming the worst of me..." 'Not that I'm really innocent in all of this...'

Inuyasha growled and hugged her tighter. "Well if that fucker doesn't learn to shut his mouth, I'll shut it for him."

Kagome nuzzled her face into him and sighed. "Thank you... For always protecting me, Inuyasha..."

"Keh.." He blushed slightly.

Just outside of the room, Mrs. Higurashi looked at the man, shocked. "You think, what?"

Isamu sighed and lowered the clip board to his side. "All of the signs are there, Mrs. Higurashi. I believe they either made a huge mistake or that strange young man... forced her into something she didn't want. She is clinging to him as if he trained her. It's almost as if she has Stockholm syndrome."

Mrs. Higurashi couldn't believe her ears. "Listen here. My daughter and that sweet boy love each other. Another thing, she was forced. But her fiancé saved her life from the psychopath who kidnapped her! She feels safest where he is. So I will warn you this one time, do not make assumptions you know nothing about. My little girl is frightened and hurt, both mentally and physically. We just want to make sure nothing permanent happened from her terrifying experience." She took a deep breath in to steel herself. "Now, I am demanding someone else to speak to and care for Kagome. Preferably a woman." Without giving the shocked man a chance to respond, she walked back into the room and slammed the door shut.

Kagome and Inuyasha turned when her mother came in angrily. "Mama?"

Mrs. Higurashi immediately came up and hugged her daughter tight. "I requested someone new. A female for you, okay?"

Kagome sighed in relief as she hugged her mother back. "Thank you."

Inuyasha noticed the scents of the women showed that they were less stressed than a moment before so he calmed down also. Mrs. Higurashi pulled away from her daughter to sit in one of the open seats. Inuyasha stayed right where he was next to Kagome.

They ended up waiting about an hour for someone new to be able to see her, but it was well worth it. A tall woman with long brown hair and brown eyes knocked before entering with a warm smile.

"Higurashi, Kagome?"

Kagome nodded her head in the affirmative.

The woman smiled and closed the door behind her before sitting down at the desk. She signed out from when the previous nurse was signed in and then signed herself in. She wrote a few notes down before turning to speak.

"My name is Akemi, I am sorry about what happened earlier. I want you to know you are safe here, okay?" Kagome nodded her head and smiled slightly. "Good. So, I'm going to take your blood, but I have a few questions to ask you first. Is it okay that they remain in the room before we start? These are going to be pretty invasive questions."

Kagome looked from Inuyasha to her mother and back at the nice woman. She held onto Inuyasha's arm and said, "Th-they can stay."

Inuyasha felt humbled to say the least. Knowing that these are questions that might be embarrassing and she wants him to stay.. He gave her a small smile before wrapping an arm around her waist, making her blush slightly.

Akemi nodded her head and glanced at her clipboard before continuing. "When was your last menstrual cycle?"

Kagome blushed but answered truthfully after thinking for a moment. Her eyes widened slightly and she paled when she realized. "Uhm... A-about this time, last month... I'm a couple of days late..." She had tears in her eyes but she didn't let them fall.

Inuyasha doesn't know any of the technical terms for a woman's fertile time, so he doesn't quite know what is happening. Only that Kagome is upset with something. He held onto her tighter to give her silent support.

Akemi wrote that down in her clipboard and then typed the same onto the computer. When she looked back at Kagome, she spoke softly. "And... you are here for a full screening from the loss of your virginity correct?"

Kagome's body tensed but the slight rumbling from Inuyasha, seemed to take her from wherever her head went.

"Y-yes..."

After writing these answers down, she gave Kagome her full attention. "Ms. Higurashi, is the man who did this to you in custody?" Kagome shook her head. "Did you report him?" Kagome turned her gaze away and didn't respond. "Okay. It's alright, Kagome. Can I ask when did this happen?"

Kagome took a calming breath in and out before looking back into the eyes of the kind woman. She thought about it for a moment. She has been home for three days and unconscious with her friends for five before she came home. She was with him for fourteen days but the first three of those days she was asleep..

"He... Th-the first time was... a little less than two and a half weeks ago... The final time was about a week ago."

The nurse looked shocked for a moment before shaking herself free and writing down this information on the clipboard and typing it into the computer. She locked eyes with Kagome once again.

"When you said first and last... Was this a repeat offender?" Kagome decided to keep it simple and just nod. "Okay. I am required to recommend you report this to the authorities. In the meantime, I'm going to take some blood and get those tests done, alright?"

Kagome nodded and watched as the woman washed her hands thoroughly and put some latex gloves on. She went into the cabinets and grabbed a needle and a few different colored tubes along with a stretchy blue band and some tape. The nurse set the stuff up on the other side of Kagome and asked her to stretch her arm out. Kagome nodded her head and easily did as she was told.

"This is a tourniquet. It will need to be tight, alright?" At Kagome's nod, she put it on Kagome's upper left arm. Kagome didn't even flinch at the feeling of her pulse from the restriction of blood flow.

Inuyasha growled lightly and held Kagome's other hand, but didn't say anything, knowing Kagome isn't showing any signs of upset. Well, more upset than she already is from this situation.

Kagome used to be scared of needles as a kid. 'What a fool I was back then...' Now, what would the point in being afraid? It's a miniscule amount of pain compared to what she has been through... And at this point, she welcomes the pain.

She watched as the nurse used an alcohol wipe on the spot on the inside of her elbow and began checking for a good vein. When she found one, she grabbed the needle and set it up to be able to draw the blood successfully.

"Small pinch, alright?"

Kagome nodded and kept her gaze on the needle. She watched as it disappeared into her arm. She didn't even wince, even as she felt what should obviously hurt, at least a little bit.

Akemi put the first tube in and they saw as her blood flowed freely into it. Kagome rubbed circles on Inuyasha's hand to keep him from getting upset at the sight of her blood. Yet she seems to be mesmerized by it.

Soon, all of the tubes were filled and the tiny wound was covered in gauze and tape.

Akemi put all of the medical supplies together and smiled at Kagome. "Alright. Since you only came in today for these tests, you don't need to see the doctor. He will give you a call in a few hours to let you know the results, alright?" Kagome nodded her head and watched as the nurse took her gloves off and threw them away. She turned back and spoke once again. "I do need to do an exam to make sure you are physically okay. This will be invasive, so I'm going to have to ask them to either leave or step behind the curtain."

Kagome squeezed Inuyasha's hand before pulling away. She looked into his eyes and smiled reassuringly. "Go out with mama. I'll be okay."

Inuyasha's ears flattened to his head underneath the cap he is wearing. "Are ya sure?"

Kagome let out a small chuckle and gave him an amused grin. "Seeing as I have to take my gown off, yeah." She blushed as she said it but was happy to see the slight blush on Inuyasha's cheeks as well. 'Adorable...'

Inuyasha crossed his arms and looked away. "Keh... I'll be right outside the room."

Kagome nodded her head and watched as her mother and Inuyasha walked out into the hallway. She turned back to the nurse and watched her put a new set of gloves on.

The woman closed the curtain just for the added privacy and stood in front of her. "I'm sorry for what you have been through, Kagome. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, please let me know. Alright?" Kagome nodded in the affirmative. "Okay. I'm going to have to do a thorough examination. Can you stand up fully and take the gown off?"

Kagome took a deep breath in before standing up. She untied the thin material, pulling it all the way off and sitting it behind her onto the edge of the bed she was sitting on. She looked away from the nurses gaze and waited.

"Thank you, Kagome. Now, because it has been a week since your last encounter, and I'm assuming you showered since then..." Kagome nodded. "...then we sadly can't get a DNA sample. But I do need to make sure everything is okay."

Akemi started with Kagome's head. Checking for any sign of assult, including blunt force trauma. She looked at the back and front of the neck and her face. Then thoroughly examined her chest, down her stomach and her back. When she got down to her legs, she noticed the bandage coverings on her inner thighs.

"What is this, Kagome? Were you bleeding?"

Kagome's heart rate immediately sky rocketed and she froze, unsure of what to say.

Akemi noticed the anxious look so she very calmy pulled the bandages off. Kagome stayed completely silent as she closed her eyes. She noticed the woman didn't say anything, so she started to calm down.

When Akemi finished with this part of the examination, she stood and spoke again. "You have some healing bruises and what look to be bite marks. But nothing too serious." She paused for a second before continuing. "Are you sore anywhere? Internally?" Kagome refused to make eye contact as she shook her head in the negative. "Do you mind telling me where he touched you? I understand we are running a pregnancy test, but did he go anywhere else?"

Kagome still refused eye contact as she crossed her arms over her chest and nodded her head.

"Does it hurt to use the bathroom?" Again, Kagome shook her head. "Thanks for answering truthfully. You may put your clothes back on. I'll be right outside the curtain when you're finished."

"Thanks..." Kagome murmured as the nurse took her gloves off and stepped away to give her some privacy.

When Kagome was finished getting dressed, and feeling a lot less exposed, she opened the curtain and saw the nurse just finishing up her notes.

Akemi smiled at her as she stepped forward and handed her a card. "Kagome... those cuts on your thighs were self inflicted, weren't they?"

Kagome took the card and read it. It was for a sexual assult and rape victim support group. Kagome only nodded her head and felt more ashamed now than she did before.

"Kagome... None of this was your fault. Remember that, okay? Now, because you are a minor and you have self inflicted wounds, I do have to inform your mother."

Kagome's eyes snapped to the older woman's and shone with unshed tears. She held onto her body tighter as she shook her head, but no words would come out. Before anything else could be said, Inuyasha stormed into the room and pulled Kagome into his arms. Kagome hugged him around the waist and cried into his chest.

"I'm sorry..." She whispered as more sobs tore free from her throat.

Inuyasha growled and turned to the woman angrily. "What did you do to her!?"

Kagome pulled back and looked up at Inuyasha. "No... It wasn't her fault..."

The nurse looked at the young girl sympathetically before speaking to the mother. "May I speak to you alone for a moment?"

Mrs. Higurashi gave her daughter an encouraging smile before looking at the other woman and nodding her head. The two women walked out together as Kagome held onto Inuyasha even tighter then before.

"What happened, Kagome? Why'd ya get so upset?"

Kagome pulled back and looked into his worried gaze. 'Why does he still care? I'm so broken, I don't think anything can put me back together...' She sighed and looked away from him.

Inuyasha growled as he cupped her chin to turn her face back to look at him. Kagome gasped as she stared into his eyes with her own widened ones.

"Inuyasha?"

"Kagome..." He stared at her for a long moment before he cupped her cheek lovingly. He could hear her heart rate speeding up the longer they stare at one another. "I promise, I will protect you with my life." He started to lean in slowly, giving her the chance to pull away if she really wanted to.

Kagome rested her hand over top of the one he had placed on her cheek. 'Is he going to kiss me?' She realized that even with all she had recently went through, she still wants this. She wants him as more then a friend. Even though she won't be ready for something more than a kiss, that's all this moment would be. She looks down at his lips and then back into his smoldering golden eyes. She begins to lean in slowly. 'Yeah... I think he is...'

Their lips were centimeters apart, breath mingling together and eyes fluttering shut.

Then the door opened, causing Kagome to back out of his embrace as if she was burned. She blushed brightly before turning and seeing the forelorn look on her mother's face. Reality crashed upon her in that moment.

'Oh...' She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in before grabbing Inuyasha's hand, saying a quick goodbye to the nurse and leaving, following behind her mother. 'I can't let him get that close to me again... As much as I love him... He doesn't know the whole story... He doesn't know who I am anymore.' She chanced a look at the hanyou walking by her side and noticed he was also deep in thought. She looked away with tears in her eyes. 'I don't even know who I am anymore...'

The car ride home was silent. It wasn't a comfortable silence either. Inuyasha was staring out of the window, deep in thought. Mrs. Higurashi was tense as she held onto the steering wheel and Kagome was clinging to Inuyasha's arm for support. Even though she has just told herself not to get too close, she feels like she can't go on without him. His warmth, his scent, everything about him is helping her just to be able to breathe.

When they made it through the front door, Kagome's mother turned to her daughter. "Kagome... I need to speak to you for a moment. I think you know why."

Kagome held in her tears as she nodded her head. She let go of Inuyasha's arm before turning to him. "Stay and watch TV. I'll be back in a little bit, okay?"

Inuyasha eyed her for a moment and growled slightly but did as he was told. So far, adhering to her wishes has worked well. He nodded his head and looked back at the weird future thing.

"How do I make the picture box work?"

Kagome smiled slightly, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. She walked over to the couch and picked up the remote. She turned the TV on and handed him the controller.

"Click this button to change up and this one to go back down to a previous channel. Don't worry about any of the other buttons, alright?"

Inuyasha nodded his head and watched as she left the room with her mother. He sat down on his haunches in the center of the floor to watch whatever was playing at the moment. He saw some humans throwing some sorta weird looking ball around. He cocked his head to the side as he continued his observation.

Kagome followed her mother into the kitchen and sat down at the table, her mother sat across from her.

"Kagome... Why did you do it?"

Tears immediately fell without her permission as she heard the hurt in her mothers voice. "I... I just wanted to feel... All I ever feel anymore is either numb and shallow or despair and hopeless. The pain... It made me feel something better... I'm... I'm so sorry mama. I know I'm a disappointment..." Kagome couldn't look her mother in the eyes. She stared down at her twiddling hands the entire time.

Mrs. Higurashi sighed as her own tears began to fall. Before she could even respond though, Inuyasha came rushing in.

"Kagome... Why are ya cryin'?" He sat in the seat next to her and looked at her worriedly, but she refused to look him in the eyes.

Mrs. Higurashi knew what she was about to do may risk her daughters trust, but it will be for her own good.

"Inuyasha dear, there is something you need to know."

Kagome's widened eyes snapped up to her mother as her heart rate picked up. "No... Please..."

Inuyasha growled as he forced Kagome to look at him by lightly grasping her cheek. "What the hell is goin' on? Let me help you, damn it!"

"I... I can't say it..." She closed her eyes so she didn't have to see the disappointment in his.

Mrs. Higurashi spoke quietly. "She hurt herself, dear."

Inuyasha's ear twitched and he started to sniff Kagome for any injuries. "What do ya mean? I can't smell any injuries."

Kagome held herself tighter as she looked the other way, waiting for her life to come crashing down even further.

Mrs. Higurashi took a deep breath in before speaking. "She injured herself on purpose, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha's eyes widened before narrowing at the young girl. "Show me."

Kagome's eyes snapped to his. "Wh-what? No!"

He crossed his arms and growled. "And why the hell not, woman!? I need to make sure you're alright!"

"I'm fine!"

"No you ain't!"

"Yes I -"

"Kagome, Inuyasha."

They turned to Mrs. Higurashi. Her mother sighed and looked between the two of them.

"Inuyasha, I needed you to know so you can keep an eye on her. I know you can smell blood and things like that. If Kagome is bleeding, I need you to be stern and ask her why. She made herself bleed some time after she came home the other day."

Kagome deflated into herself the longer her mother spoke. 'There's no way Inuyasha would wanna be with me, knowing how fucked up in the head I am...'

Inuyasha forced himself to calm down, knowing that an argument won't help her at the moment. He nodded his head in agreement and watched as Mrs. Higurashi smiled before getting up and walking out to leave them alone for now.

Kagome sighed and spoke without looking at him. "I'm tired. I think I'm just gonna go take a nap..." She got up and left without another word. Inuyasha followed behind her up to her room.

When she walked into her bedroom, she turned to see him eyeing her suspiciously. "Inuyasha. I need to put on some other clothes. Please, leave for just a minute?"

Inuyasha crossed his arms. "Feh. I'm goin' to put my fire rat back on, then I'm comin' right back." He turned and left after that.

Kagome sighed and grabbed her light blue long sleeve button down silk pajama top and matching bottoms. She undressed and redressed before sitting on the edge of the bed.

'Could my life get any worse?' She remembered a few details that answered that question for her. 'I would die if Inuyasha knew how much I threw myself at that rat bastard...' She wrapped her arms around her stomach. 'Please Kami... Please tell me I'm not pregnant...'

A few minutes later, Inuyasha came up to the other side of the door. "Kagome? Are you dressed?"

Kagome allowed herself a small smile. For how brash and insane that man is, he can be really considerate and sweet. "H-hai..."

Inuyasha walked in and closed the door behind him before sitting on the bed next to her. He noticed that Kagome still isn't looking at him.

"Why won't you let me see?"

Kagome blushed but glanced in his direction. "Because I'd have to take my pants off, Inuyasha..."

Inuyasha blushed also and nodded his head in understanding. "Kagome... Why? Why would you want to hurt yourself?"

She couldn't stop the tears that fell. "I just want this to end! I want to stop feeling so hopeless..." She locked her eyes with his. "I wanted to end it completely, but then what would that say about what Kikyo did to save me? I couldn't do that, so I made myself feel alive instead. You don't know even the half of what I went through, Inuyasha... I can't... I..."

Inuyasha grabbed Kagome under her legs and behind her back to hold her against his body. She immediately wrapped her arms around his neck as she cried into his chest. Inuyasha let his call calm the girl down as he held onto her as tight as he dared.

When her sobs calmed down into hiccuping sniffles, Inuyasha spoke calmly. "If ya ever wanna tell me what happened.. I will listen. I'm tryin' really hard, Kagome. I know I'm an asshole and a half-breed bastard, but I am really tryin' my best here. What do I do to help you?"

Kagome pulled her face away from his chest to look into his golden gaze. She cupped his cheek and spoke just above a whisper.

"Don't call yourself that, baka. And you are helping, more than you can ever know. I just..." She closed her eyes as more flashbacks came to her. She shook her head free of them before looking at him again. "If you knew everything that happened, you wouldn't want to breathe the same air as me let alone touch me..."

Inuyasha rested his forehead against hers and increased his calming growl. "That's not true, woman. You'll see for yourself. I ain't goin' nowhere. No matter what. I promised to protect you, and I plan to keep that promise until the day I die."

Kagome sighed as she looked back into his eyes. She noticed him glance at her lips and it made her heart flutter within her chest. 'No... I have to protect him from me...' As he was beginning to lean closer to her, she quickly pulled out of his lap and got underneath of the blankets. "I'm gonna take that nap now, Inuyasha. I'm really tired." She closed her eyes, refusing to look at the hurt in his.

Inuyasha sighed and slid to the floor to sit in his customary spot against the bed with his Tetsusaiga resting up against his shoulder. He didn't say anything, allowing Kagome to get the much needed sleep she needs.

A few hours later, Kagome woke up screaming from yet another nightmare. Inuyasha was by her side in an instant, allowing the young Miko to cling to his body for support. He held her tightly and stroked her hair as she sobbed into his chest. She started to speak, without really realizing she was doing it.

"He... He drugged me and... it made my body want things... I begged him to stop... Inuyasha..."

Inuyasha's eyes flashed red as he held onto her tighter. "I'm here, Kagome... It's over... He ain't gonna get to ya again. I promise."

Kagome lifted her face to look at his. She noticed his beautiful golden eyes were rimmed red around the edges. She gasped when she realized what she had just told him.

Inuyasha scented her embarrassment and saw her look away and loosen her hold on him. He grabbed her by the chin to make her look back into his eyes.

"No. You ain't gonna be embarrassed by anything that bastard did. It ain't your fault! You said he drugged you, damn it!"

Kagome snuggled back into his chest but didn't respond. She just needs to feel his warm embrace, and allow his woodsy and fresh rain scent envelope her and help her forget.

After a few more minutes, Kagome's mother knocked before coming in. She smiled warmly at the couple innocently hugging in the bed. She knows it is a matter of time before they admit their true feelings for each other.

"Kagome dear, your results just came back."

Kagome immediately became anxious as she fully sat up in bed to look worriedly at her mother. Mrs. Higurashi smiled encouragingly as she gave her the news.

"Everything came back negative." Seeing the relief on Kagome's face made her happy, but she knew that what she had to say next would disappoint her. "Although, you'll need to take another pregnancy test in a week just to confirm. They said they can't get a completely accurate result this soon after..."

Kagome turned and burried her face into Inuyasha's chest once again. Inuyasha was speechless for a moment. 'Why didn't that dumb girl just ask me!?' "Kagome, you ain't gotta worry. You ain't pregnant."

Kagome immediately pulled back to look at him with hopeful eyes. "You... You can tell?"

"Keh..." He used his free hand to tap his nose. "I can smell it within the first seven days after... ya know..."

For the first time in weeks, Kagome cried happy tears. She squeezed him tightly and sobbed into his chest.

"Inuyasha! Thank you so so much!"

Mrs. Higurashi smiled at the scene and also felt a weight being lifted off of her shoulders. "Yes dear, thank you. I'm going to go downstairs and make dinner. Will you be joining us at the table tonight, Kagome?"

Kagome looked from her mother to Inuyasha and clung to him harder. "Are you staying?"

"Feh. Like I'd turn down food. You know me better then that, woman." He smirked at her as she gave him a small smile.

Kagome turned to her mother and nodded her head. "We'll be down for dinner soon. Thanks mama."

"Alright dear." She turned and left as quickly as she came.

Inuyasha hugged Kagome and sighed contently. "Why didn't ya tell me you were gettin' that test done?"

Kagome let out a shaky breath as she cuddled deeper into his chest. "I was scared... And... I didn't wanna worry you... I didn't know you could tell so soon after..."

"Silly girl." He lightly kissed the top of her head, elicitating a small gasp from her before nuzzling his face into her hair and breathing in deeply. "You smell like lavender and wild flowers. I promise you, no scent of that bastard is left. It's just you. Just Ka-go-me."

Kagome cried softly into his embrace and took a deep breath in of his scent. "Y-you smell like forest and fresh rain... I... I really like it..." She blushed as she admitted that.

Inuyasha purred quietly as he held her close. 'She has no idea that true mates would always be attracted to each other's scent... I promise Kagome, I'll never let you go again.'

They sat like that without speaking for a while longer. Just being together like this, in each others warm embrace and calming scents... If even for a moment, Kagome feels content.

A/N: So, this ran away with me yet again haha. That means the next chapter will have the psychiatry appointment. Sorry! And I'm sorry if it's a little slow right now, I feel that these small details really do matter even if there isn't much action involved.

I'm also just gonna say, the scene where Kagome and Inuyasha almost kiss in her bedroom but are interrupted by Souta, never happened in this fiction. Since Kikyo was still alive up until a few days ago in this story and their 'almost kiss' in the anime happened after her death. So I incorporated it into this fiction here. I didn't want to make it exactly the same, so I hope I did well on portraying it in a different way. This is how I think it might have happened if Kagome had gone through something traumatic like this.

I also know that at the beginning of this story I said it could be 5 chapters or 15, I didn't really know... Well, now I know it's definitely not gonna be 5 lol... I actually have a sorta plan in my head now. When I started, I had absolutely no plan after the initial rape and mind control... Now though, I know a bit of what I'm gonna do, so it's definitely gonna be closer to 15 chapters, maybe even more. This will be my longest fic I've written so far. I'm excited to put my plan into action!
