Part 11: "This means that he's part youkai, too?"
After a couple of weeks, Kagome was able to stay up a little longer than four hours. She seemed relived to actually get out of bed to see the sun set. Every once and a while, they still sleep to the deep of the night.
It had been officially half of Kagome's pregnancy, and she was somewhat feeling the toll it took on her body. Tye had explained that things like body aches were normal, and that her bladder would be overactive for the time until she had the baby.
Kagome lie in bed looking up at the ceiling though semi-open eyelids. She was listening to the sounds of the TV from downstairs. She couldn't hear it all to well, but she was sure that it was Souta playing one of his video games.
Kagome looked over at Inuyasha, who was, yet again, drooling on a pillow.
Inuyasha mumbled something in his sleep and then made a slight snore.
Kagome smiled, but refrained from laughing. Oh how she wished she had her camera within her reach. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo would die to see Inuyasha all cuddled up with his pillow. No matter how many times she woke up to see Inuyasha asleep like that, it still amused her; probably because of his tough personality.
Inuyasha mumbled something and then opened his eyes to meet Kagome's gaze. "Um? Wha…?"
Kagome giggled. "I'm just watching you."
"Feh." He huffed as he sat up.
Kagome looked at the clock. It was actually only six p.m. She sat up and stretched. "Let's go get something to eat."
Kagome slid herself out of bed and stood up. She proceeded to the door and opened it.
Inuyasha followed her to the living room, where, indeed, Souta was playing video games. Inuyasha went over and challenged Souta to a game, while Kagome went to the kitchen.
"Mama?" Kagome called as she entered the kitchen.
"Hai, Mrs. Higurashi, your daughter will be fine." A male voice reassured.
Kagome entered the kitchen to find the doctor she had met, Tye, sitting at the table with her mother. "Tye?"
"Ah, Kagome." Tye said as he stood up. "We came to see you and Inuyasha, but then your mother and I began to talk."
"Okay…what about?" Kagome asked, truly wondering what she would 'be fine' about.
Inuyasha came into the kitchen. "I thought I smelled him. Is that blabber mouth with you, too?"
"Ah…well…" Tye said.
The back door open and Alexia stepped in. "Oh, you're up."
Tye looked at Alexia who seemed nervous.
"What's wrong with you?" Inuyasha asked bluntly.
Alexia stuttered a moment.
"Go on." Tye said.
"Inuyasha, Kagome…I would like you to meet…my cousin." Alexia said as Hojo stepped up beside her.
"Hojo-kun!" Kagome yelled.
Inuyasha growled.
"So…it is true." Hojo said.
"This means that he's part youkai, too?" Kagome was still shocked by the information.
Hojo nodded. "Higurashi-san, I heard the story from Alexia and Tye-san, so if I can help in any way, now or later, I'd be-"
"No way in hell!" Inuyasha yelled. "I don't want this half-wit of a person involved in this! Take a hint, she doesn't-"
"Sit." Kagome said.
Inuyasha hit the floor.
"Let me talk, Inuyasha." Kagome said sternly. "Hojo, I have all the help I need, or should I say that I can handle, with Inuyasha. I'd prefer if-"
"You'd bug off." Inuyasha added as he managed to pry himself up.
Hojo blinked. "Okay…" he looked at Inuyasha, who was glaring at him defiantly.
"Oh!" Alexia started, managing to break the tension and startle everyone. "I forgot the other reason I came." She held up a book. "I was reading this book and I found that name you told me?"
"What name?" Inuyasha asked dumbly.
"Sesshoumaru." Alexia stated.
Kagome was chilled at the calmness of Alexia's voice as she said his name.
"What about him?" Inuyasha grumbled.
"The book was a record of all the youkai remaining and what there status was at the end of the 'battle of hell,' as some referred to your battle with Naraku as." Alexia began. "It seems that the 'Great Demon Lord of the Western Lands, Sesshoumaru,' his servant 'Jaken,' were labeled 'unknown.'"
"Unknown?" Inuyasha asked seriously.
"Yeah, just like they vanished." Alexia finished.
Inuyasha stood up with the new account of information. "Does he survive to the battle of Naraku?"
"That information is…inconclusive…" Alexia sighed.
Kagome rolled her eyes. "Someone needs to whack your ancestors on the head to get the gears to run."
The group continued their conversation. Inuyasha managed to get the book from Alexia, so he could look for hints and clues to everything he was going to encounter. The book even listed Kagura and Kanna. They were labeled as "defectors; okay," meaning they switched sides in the end and survived.
Inuyasha found his name in the list, along with Jinenji, the hanyou they met and helped before. Both were listed with an "okay" status. He looked for Shippo, and found that he, too, had an "okay" status. Most youkai were labeled unknown or missing.
After Alexia ran out of things to talk about, she managed to pry the book from Inuyasha, who was still looking through the names. She decided that it was time to leave, though she wished she could find out something else to talk about. Alexia could tell that Hojo was feeling more and more uncomfortable as Tye and Alexia managed to get Inuyasha and Kagome to explain the past.
After an hour and a half of talking, Alexia, Tye, and her cousin, Hojo, left.
Kagome was somewhat relieved when they left. She had to get used to knowing that part-youkai people could be everywhere in her time-even at her former school, as she had officially dropped out.
After eating, Inuyasha and Kagome went back to her room.
"So, you knew that guy before?" Inuyasha asked as he sat down and leaned against the side of Kagome's bed.
Kagome sat down on the edge of the bed, near Inuyasha. "Yes; we went to school together."
"Do you like him?" Inuyasha asked stubbornly.
"As much as I like Miroku." Kagome replied.
Inuyasha laughed. "Well, that's good to hear."
Kagome looked at Inuyasha who was looking toward a wall instead of at her. She reached over and rubbed one of his ears.
Instead of arguing and telling her to stop, Inuyasha just closed his eyes.
"I'm surprised, you're not yelling at me." Kagome mentioned.
"Just don't pull on 'em." Inuyasha replied.
Kagome continued to rub his ear. She giggled when he leaned his head toward her.
"What?" Inuyasha asked as he opened his eyes and looked at her through the corner of his eye.
"You're acting like an animal when they get their ears scratched." Kagome humored.
"Feh." Inuyasha mumbled. He wasn't going to say anything to make her angry. He actually liked that she was rubbing his ear. "Um…Kagome…"
"What?" Kagome asked as she continued rubbing his ear.
Inuyasha pulled away from her hand and turned to face her. "I want to tell you something."
Kagome blinked.
Inuyasha looked down and away. "The night of the new moon, did you hear anything after you went to sleep?"
"Not that I can remember; I was tired." Kagome explained.
"Okay…" Inuyasha mumbled. "I…uh…" His face turned slightly pink. "I said that I…that I…" then he mumbled, "love you."
"What was that?" Kagome asked.
Inuyasha looked up at Kagome. "I said that I loved you."
Kagome just stared at Inuyasha. Was she dreaming? She didn't know what to say or how to act with what he said. It came as a shock.
"I…if you'll let me, I'd stay with you…and the baby." Inuyasha said while lowering his head somewhat fearing the answer. "I'm not forcing you. I just want to know that you are taken care of. I don't care if you'd prefer Kouga or that Hojo guy; I just want to know you're safe."
"I don't prefer either of them, Inuyasha." Kagome said.
Inuyasha looked up at her.
"Actually, I was somewhat hopping you'd offer." Kagome said with a smile.
Inuyasha smiled.
"But what about Kikyo?" Kagome asked defiantly.
Inuyasha scowled. "You've gotta be kidding me; you're worried about what I think about a corpse!"
"Yup." Kagome replied sternly.
Inuyasha crossed his arms and growled. "Do you really think that matters?"
"Yes, it does." Kagome said angrily. "I'm the one who normally gets left behind because of her."
"My Kikyo is dead." Inuyasha stated. "She died over fifty years ago. Sure, I feel responsible for what remains of her."
"All that remains of her is a false body and part of my soul." Kagome mentioned. (Baka! How can he be so insensitive?) She thought.
Inuyasha growled.
"Hey!" Kagome yelled. "It is my soul, remember! So don't growl about it."
"Feh!" Inuyasha grumbled as he stuck his nose in the air. "Why do I even bother!"
Kagome put her hands together and let out a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. (I'll teach him.) She thought. After she felt she was calm, she looked at Inuyasha with a grin on her face. "Sit!"
Inuyasha hit the floor, cursing into the carpet.
