Part 13: "Where are they?"
Inuyasha sat with Kagome in the living room. They sat watching TV. They really didn't know anything that they could do.
It had nearly been three months, and it didn't make either of them feel any better. Something still seemed wrong. Only a few more days were necessary and they'd be relieved.
"Inuyasha...are you still sure about what you said?" Kagome asked.
"What; saying I'd stay with you if you'd have me?" Inuyasha asked. "Of course I do."
"And you're sure it isn't because you still feel responsible?" Kagome asked.
Inuyasha turned to face her. "Baka...how many times do I have to go over this?"
"As many times until it happens." Kagome replied.
"Kagome, if you choose me, I am not going to leave you, no mater what." Inuyasha said.
Kagome glared. "And what about Kikyo?"
"Okay, I've said this already; you, baka, mean more to me than Kikyo ever did." Inuyasha said. "You don't care if I am a hanyou; she on the other hand had to have me as a human and nothing else. As I said before, I will never forget her, but she's already dead."
"We'll see." Kagome replied with a defiant glare on her face.
"Kagome, please drop the walking corpse." Inuyasha said.
"I would; if she were here." Kagome said as she raised her hand and looked at it. "If she were, I'd smash her to bits and take the rest of my soul back, thank you."
Inuyasha chuckled slightly. "You're getting moody again."
"You better believe it." Kagome said.
"Just think, Kagome; you're not just starting out with one baby, you're starting out with a baby and an adoptive child." Inuyasha said.
"Yeah, I know that Shippo will technically be my child; since he's clingy of me." Kagome said.
"And you take care of him." Inuyasha said.
"I have to practically take care of you, too, Inuyasha." Kagome said. "Sometimes you're no more than a big baby with claws."
Inuyasha growled.
Kagome smiled. "I knew I could make you angry comparing the two of you."

Shippo yawned and looked at Sango and Miroku who were moping. He sighed. "Okay, the time is almost up and you're both sad, why?"
"Shippo, there is still time for Sesshoumaru to win, or do you not realize this?" Miroku replied.
Shippo crossed his arms. "Well, she's on her side of the well and only she and Inuyasha can pass through that well. It'll be fine. Kagome and Inuyasha will be back before you know it." For some reason, he felt like he was lying. After Kagome had the baby she probably would be able to return right away, even if the child would be a hanyou. He wanted to see Kagome again; being with the moping Sango and Miroku was boring.
Night came and Shippo watched as the three humans he have had to put up with for the past two and a half months-Sango, Miroku, and Kaede-fell asleep.
Shippo fell asleep shortly. It was after noon when he woke up. Sango and Miroku were still sound asleep-they had gotten used to sleeping all day-and Shippo found them boring. Kaede had already left the hut. He was bored. He really wanted to see Kagome but he couldn't go to her time...could he? Truthfully, now that he thought about it, he had never tried to cross through the well. Inuyasha had "locked" the well by keeping Kagome from the Shikon jewel one time, but neither Shippo nor any of the others had really tried to cross while some of the shards were on the opposite side.
Shippo wrote a short note to the humans telling where he had gone and that if he didn't return, he was in Kagome's time. He quickly bounded out the door before anyone could wake.
Shippo slowly walked toward the well, but stopped for a moment when he smelled someone. Shippo sniffed the air. "Sesshoumaru..." Shippo eeped and ran quickly from the village toward the well. He wasn't going to stick around to see him. Shippo stopped at the well and looked toward the village. "Sango, Miroku...be all right, please."
Shippo jumped onto the well's edge. He gulped when he noticed the distance. (Please work. I want to see Kagome. I want to be away from here.)
Shippo jumped into the well and whined during the fall until he felt like he was floating. (It worked! I'm going to Kagome!) That's when Shippo began to panic
Shippo landed at the base of the well and looked up-there was a roof over the well, just like Kagome had said. He scampered up the ladder that was against one wall and peered over the side. "Kagome? Inuyasha?" he called quietly. (Wait...I made it through the well easily, and this is Kagome's world. What if Sesshoumaru could...?)
Shippo panicked and jumped over the well's edge and ran up the stairs to the door leading out of the well-house. "KAGOME!" He yelled as loud as he could.

Inuyasha perked his ears up when he heard Kagome's name. They had gotten into the habit of sleeping until night, so whoever it was didn't know that. (Who the hell...?) He rose up and looked toward the window of Kagome's room, and then over at Kagome, who was asleep on the bed. "Oi, Kagome!"
Kagome woke up and mumbled something.
Inuyasha looked at her drowsily. "Someone called for you."
"Who?" Kagome asked sleepily.
"KA-GO-ME!" the voice yelled again.
Inuyasha stood up and ran to the window while Kagome stood up to look.
Inuyasha looked carefully to see the familiar fox-child youkai running around in the courtyard. "What the hell! How the hell did he...!" He looked at Kagome, "Get dressed, now! Quickly; and meet me downstairs!" Inuyasha grabbed his fire-rat outfit and quickly put his pants on over the boxer shorts he was wearing, but he managed to rip the pajama top off in order to get his top on. "Hurry." He said, once more looking at Kagome before he ran to Kagome's door, flung it open and ran downstairs. (Impossible! Shippo can't cross to this time! But...he never tried...none of the have...) Inuyasha sped up and ran past Kagome's mother, brother, and grandfather who were in the living room. He stopped at the door and opened it.
"Shippo!" Inuyasha called.
Shippo picked up on the voice and ran toward Inuyasha jumping to his chest when he reached him. "I didn't know! I made it here! I thought I couldn't! What if...!"
Kagome came downstairs quickly and her family joined Inuyasha and the frantic Shippo, bringing Inuyasha's sword with her, since he had left it upstairs.
"Kagome!" Shippo bounded off of Inuyasha and to Kagome's shoulder. "This is bad! Very, VERY bad! It can't get any worse. I'm youkai and I can cross, what if he...!"
"Shippo!" Inuyasha yelled to silence Shippo. "As long as he doesn't know about the well, it's fine."
Shippo began bawling. "BUT I'm sure he knows!"
Inuyasha growled. "Why the hell do you think that, runt!"
"I wrote a note to Sango and Miroku saying where I was going, and as I was leaving I smelt him." Shippo said. "He was going to the hut! I ran, and I jumped in the well!"
Inuyasha turned to Kagome, who was already panicking, and then to her mother and grandfather. "You three, get out of here, now!"
"Kagome, be careful." Her mother said with obvious worry in her voice. She led Souta and Kagome's grandfather out to the car to do just as Inuyasha had ordered.
"Kagome, I don't care what this world thinks of me, and I don't care if you don't want to be near me," Inuyasha began as he crouched down, "but get on and hold on. We're getting out of here, now!"
Kagome was really tired of hearing him assume that she didn't like him but felt the time was not right to protest. "I'm probably too heavy, and the no-touching thing."
"Forget that!" Inuyasha snapped, and pulled his sword from her grip and quickly fastened it to his side. "Now get on; we're leaving, now! Shippo, hold on to her tightly; I'm not going to slow down for anything!"
Kagome climbed onto his back as Shippo latched himself to her shoulder. Inuyasha dashed out of the door quickly, and ran towards wherever he could, even if it were the humungous city of Tokyo.

Sesshoumaru walked toward the hut past frightened villagers. He had wanted to see how things were fairing with his "claim" and his pathetic hanyou half-brother earlier but is temporary hibernation had surly rule that out. And now, as he had finally came into the village, things seemed wrong-he couldn't smell either of them. It was as if they weren't there, but the resent scents of them were around this village; it was odd.
He reached the hut and entered quietly. The old woman's scent lingered in the hut, but the woman was not there. He turned his attention to the monk and the youkai exterminator; both were still asleep.
Sesshoumaru approached Miroku. He grabbed Miroku's neck, startling the monk awake, and lifted him off of the ground. "Where may I ask is my pathetic brother and my wench?"
Miroku could barely breathe and tried to loosen the strain by trying to break Sesshoumaru's grip.
Sango had woken up to the sound of Sesshoumaru's voice and had backed against a wall.
Sesshoumaru looked at Sango. "Where are they?"
"Gone." Sango replied bluntly. Fear was obvious in her tone. She had expected a "visit" from Sesshoumaru, but nothing quite so violent.
"Gone where?" Sesshoumaru asked. "Don't try my patience, or would you enjoy watching me kill your pathetic friend here." He tightened his hold on Miroku's throat.
"To her home." Sango replied. "And that's the truth."
"Where?" Sesshoumaru asked as he kept his grip tight around Miroku's neck and his gaze directed at Sango.
"No..." Miroku managed to say.
Sango shook her head and closed her eyes.
Sesshoumaru looked at Miroku and loosened his grip. "Where's that fox-child?"
Sango looked up and around quickly for the missing Shippo. Then she noticed it-a piece of paper near where Sesshoumaru was standing. The writing was Shippo's and in crayon. She could only read three worlds "...to the well". Sango now had a very hard choice-destroy the letter and die or tell Sesshoumaru. She chose the hard way; she had to rip that letter up.
Sesshoumaru caught movement and then turned to see Sango grab the letter. Not even a second later he had her by the front of her shirt and off the ground, causing her to drop the letter.
"Impossible." Sango said obviously shocked about the turn of events. "You're arm..."
"It seems that being with Kagome gave me more than claiming her and a child." Sesshoumaru said. He threw Miroku towards the wall and then through Sango in the same direction causing her to hit Miroku against the wall harder.
Sesshoumaru picked up the note written in the scribbled writing of Shippo. After he read over it quickly he looked up at Sango. "What does this mean? He's 'gone through the well'?"
Sango sat up. She realized something; if Shippo, a full youkai, made it through the well, then Sesshoumaru could as well. She stood up and grabbed Hiraikotsu. "I can't let you get to that well and Kagome's home." She said determined.
Sesshoumaru chuckled. "What does a well have to do with Kagome's home? That's all I'm asking; and I'll let you live. On the other hand, I suppose I'll just have to find out for myself. I have to find my Kagome anyway."
"I won't let you get to Kagome's time!" Sango said.
Miroku had stood up next to her and held his hand ready to use the air rip. "She's right. We can't let you get to Kagome's time; even if you kill us."
Sesshoumaru seemed confused about the statement "Kagome's time;" it just seemed illogical.
"It seems you don't understand, Sesshoumaru." Sango said with anger in her voice. "Kagome isn't from this time; that's why we can't let you get near her."
Sesshoumaru smiled. That was the reason she was different. It was amazing knowing that the one he had claimed was something that no one else could top, and he didn't even know till her friends told him. "Thank you for the information."
Sango and Miroku were confused by his reaction.
Sesshoumaru backed through the door quickly.
Sango and Miroku ran out of the hut to find that he was already going in the direction of the well.
Sango noticed the letter from Shippo on the ground and picked it up. "Nani!" She said as she read the letter.
"What is it, Sango?" Miroku asked.
"We're morons; that's what!" Sango said. She turned the letter for him to see; all the letter read was: "If I'm not back by supper, I'll be gone to the well."
"So, he tricked us to get information on what the well had to do with Shippo being gone." Miroku said. "What if Shippo did make it through the well; this could be bad. If Shippo made it, Sesshoumaru could..."
"Go through as well and find Kagome." Sango finished. "Let's go to the well ourselves." She turned to the hut. "Just give me a moment, and don't you dare peek."
