Chapter 21

Visiting

Kagome woke up the next morning. As much as she hated to, she called her mom. She felt bad for not visiting but she didn't want to go back. Her grandfather lived there and they weren't very close.

She dialed the number. "Moshi moshi."

"Hi mom." Kagome said.

"Kagome, I'm glad you called. You got my message, I take it?" Her mom said.

"Hai."

"I really wish you would come visit. I know you don't get along with your grandfather but he's gone for the week. He went on some shrine convention thing."

"I didn't even know they had those."

"I guess they do. So will you come visit? Souta and I miss you."

Kagome thought about it. Her grandfather would be gone for the week. "I guess I can come for a little while. I'll see if I can get off of work."

"I'll set up your old room for you." Her mom said.

"I'll call you when I find out about work." Kagome told her.

"Hai." Her mom said. Kagome hung up. She sighed and dialed Miroku's number.

"Moshi moshi." A girl said.

"Sango?" Kagome asked.

"Ah, hai?" She said. "Kagome?"

"Why are you at Miroku's?" Kagome asked.

"Well, um, he's in the shower." Sango stuttered.

"Well can you have him call me back when he gets out? It's important."

"Hai." Sango said.

"Sango who are you talking to?" Miroku asked from the background.

"Never mind, he's out now." Sango said. "Kagome wants to talk to you."

"Hello?" Miroku said.

"Hi Miroku! I was wondering if maybe I could take a couple days off work." Kagome asked.

"What for?" Miroku asked.

"I need to take care of a couple of things."

"Hai, how many days off do you need?"

"Can I take the next two days off?"

"Hai that'll be fine." Miroku said.

"Arigato. Tell everyone bye for me. I'm leaving for a while."

"Where are you goi-" Kagome hung up before Miroku could finish asking the question. She didn't want anyone to know where she was going. She didn't like talking about her family. Somehow her grandfather always came up and she didn't want to talk about him.

She called her mom and told her she was going to head over there as soon as she packed. Her mom was glad she could go. Kagome packed enough things for the next two days. She locked up her house and headed for the train station. Her family lived in Osaka and the train was the easiest route for her.

When she got there she bought a train ticket and got on. She sat by herself and leaned her head against the window. She did miss her mom and Souta. She would be happy to see them again.

Kagome got off at the Osaka stop and caught a cab. She started remembering where she was. It had been almost a year since she visited her family. She talked to them on the phone but not as often.

She arrived at the shrine. She paid the driver and started walking up the steps. She always hated having to walk up the steps. When she got to the door she knocked. Her mom answered the door. "Kagome." Her mom said.

"Hi mom." Kagome said. She hugged her mom and walked in the house.

"Souta isn't home yet, but he will be soon." Her mom said. "Come, have a seat on the couch."

They both sat down. "So how are things?" Her mom asked.

"They're good." Kagome said.

"Do you still talk to Sango and the others?"

"Hai." Kagome said. "Sango and Rin have found nice boyfriends."

"Really?"

"Hai, Sango actually is going out with Miroku."

"I always thought she liked him. So what about you?"

Kagome blushed. "I have a boyfriend now."

"That's nice dear. Why didn't you bring him with you?"

"I just started dating him a while ago."

"That's no excuse. I want to meet him." Her mom said. "You should bring him over this weekend. He can stay in the guest room."

"I don't know if he'd feel comfortable with that, besides Grandpa might come home soon."

"He just left yesterday. He's not due home for another week." Her mom said.

"I'll ask him." Kagome gave in. Her mom wouldn't give up on it.

"Mom I'm home!"

"Souta, your sister is here." Ms. Higurashi said.

"Kagome is here." Souta said He ran into the living room and hugged her. "I missed you."

"I missed you too." Kagome hugged him back.

Kagome was now in her room about to go to sleep. She'd spent the day talking with her mom and brother. She missed them. She moved out almost immediately after high school.

She moved out to Tokyo with Sango, Rin, and Miroku. They all wanted to move out there after high school and she went with them. Anything to get away from her grandfather.

Her grandfather didn't like Kagome at all. He didn't like her mom's choice of a husband and wouldn't get close to her at all. He was happy when Souta was born because he was a male. Her grandfather was more of the olden traditions guy.

He disliked her even more when she told him she didn't want to work at the shrine. He yelled at her and told her that it was her responsibility to take over the shrine until Souta was old enough. That's when Kagome left.

Kagome shook the memory out of her thoughts and got ready for bed. She told her mom that she was leaving tomorrow. Her mom really wanted to meet Inuyasha. As much as she hated the idea she agreed to ask him.

She just hoped that Miroku would give her a couple more days off later this week. She changed her clothes and got into bed. She wondered if Inuyasha would be mad that she didn't tell him she was going to be gone.

Inuyasha had called Kagome's apartment for the tenth time that night. He was worried. At first he thought she was already at the club. He was going to swing by her house and give her a ride.

When he got to the club Miroku had told him she left and took a couple days off of work. He wondered why she didn't tell him. He was kind of mad that she didn't tell him. How could she just up and leave without telling anyone where she was going or what she was doing?

Kagome was getting ready to leave. Her things were packed and in her hand. "So you promise to ask your boyfriend?" Her mom asked.

Kagome sighed. It was like the fifth time she's asked her that day. "Hai, I'll ask him." Kagome said. She hugged her mom goodbye and got into a cab.

Kagome got home and checked her messages. She had about ten of them from Inuyasha. They all said something about asking where she was and when she was going to get home, why didn't she tell anyone and so on.

She erased them all and decided to go to the club and work. It was about eight. Miroku wasn't expecting her back until tomorrow. She put her suitcase down and changed her clothes.

She walked down to the club. It was already opened when she walked through the door. "Hey Kagome." Sango said. "I thought you weren't going to be back until tomorrow."

"Change of plans." Kagome said.

"Where'd you go?" Rin asked.

"Is Miroku and Inuyasha in the VIP room?" Kagome asked changing the subject. They nodded. She walked towards the back.

She opened the door and only found Inuyasha there. "Where's Miroku?" She asked.

"Where the hell were you?" Inuyasha asked. "I called you and you never answered the phone. Miroku told me you left and you didn't tell anyone where you were going."

"I'll tell you about it later." Kagome said. "I don't feel like talking about it here."

Inuyasha calmed down a little bit. "Miroku went to the bathroom." He said.

Kagome walked over and sat down next to him. She had to wait for Miroku to get back so she could tell him she was back. As soon as she sat down Inuyasha grabbed her and kissed her.

Kagome gasped and Inuyasha smirked. He used her surprise to his advantage and slipped his tongue in her mouth. His hands rested on her waist. He was glad nothing had happened to her. Their kiss was interrupted.

"Did I come in at a bad time?" Miroku asked.

Kagome pulled away from Inuyasha and blushed. "I'm here to tell you I'm back early." Kagome said.

"Ok." Miroku smiled. "Couldn't stay away from Inuyasha I see."

Kagome stood up and hit Miroku. "I'm going to get to work." She said and left.

"You had to walk in right at that moment, didn't you?" Inuyasha asked.

"Well sorry, but I was done with my business." Miroku said.

"Shut up." Inuyasha said.

"So where's Sesshomaru?" Miroku asked.

"He's at work. He missed so many days because of Rin. He's spending today doing things he'd been ignoring." Inuyasha said.

"Oh. It seems he likes Rin a lot." Miroku said.

"He wouldn't date Rin if he didn't like her. He usually doesn't date." Inuyasha said.

"Like you. You wouldn't even go near a girl unless you absolutely had to." Miroku said. "What's changed?"

"Kagome." Inuyasha said.
