Chapter 53

Adoption

"Thanks for having us over." Kagome said to Sesshomaru and Rin.

"Thanks for coming." Sesshomaru said.

"Don't forget, tomorrow at one." Rin waved bye as Sesshomaru dragged her inside and closed the door.

"Let's go." Inuyasha said as he carried a sleeping Shippo.

"Hai, we still have to take Kohaku home." Miroku said.

"See you tomorrow Kagome." Sango waved and got into the car.

"Ja ne Sango, Miroku." Kagome waved.

Inuyasha strapped Shippo in the back seat and sat down in his own after Kagome. The ride home was silent so as not to wake Shippo. Once they got inside Inuyasha carried Shippo into his room. He changed his clothes to pajamas and quietly shut the door.

He walked to his room and stopped when he saw Kagome. She had just unzipped her dress and let it fall to the ground. Inuyasha walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"You never stop, do you?" Kagome turned around with a blush on her cheeks to face him.

"Nope." Inuyasha smiled and leaned forward to kiss her. He started to unbutton his collar shirt. He almost yelled out in frustration when there was a knock on the door. He took off his shirt and threw it at Kagome. She quickly put it on and buttoned it up.

"What do you want?" Inuyasha asked menacingly.

Shippo sniffed and said nothing. "What's wrong Shippo?" Kagome asked when she was done buttoning her shirt, well Inuyasha's shirt.

He ran into the room, pushed passed Inuyasha, and threw himself at Kagome. "Shippo, what's wrong?" She asked again.

"I had a nightmare about my parents again." Shippo cried.

Kagome moved and sat down on the bed with Shippo in her lap. Something was wrong when a six year old kept having reoccurring nightmares about his parent's death. "Shippo, it's okay." Kagome said.

Inuyasha moved and sat behind Kagome. "It happened a long time ago Shippo." Inuyasha said.

"I know, but the kids make fun of me because I don't have a mom or dad." Shippo said.

"Don't let them get to you. It's not right to make fun of someone because they're parents are gone." Kagome said. "Come on, you can sleep in here."

Shippo nodded and climbed into the bed. He pulled the covers up and went to sleep. "Poor Shippo." Kagome said.

"He has nightmares every once in a while." Inuyasha said.

"He's so young though. Kids are terrible these days. Making fun of people for not having parents." Kagome said.

"Kids are cruel." Inuyasha said.

"I want to adopt him." Kagome said.

"You want to what?" Inuyasha asked.

"I want to adopt him. He needs a mother, and if he wants I'll adopt him. If its alright with you. You are his legal guardian." Kagome said.

"I don't mind. I guess I should've adopted him long ago." Inuyasha said. "We'll talk to him about it tomorrow."

Kagome nodded and got on the other side of Shippo while Inuyasha got in on his side. They both pulled the covers over themselves and fell asleep, missing the smile on Shippo's face.

The next morning Shippo jumped up and down on the bed to wake Inuyasha and Kagome. "Wake up, wake up, wake up!" Shippo shouted.

"Shippo, it's nine in the morning!" Inuyasha shouted.

"Wake up!" Shippo shouted.

"What for, you little runt?" Inuyasha yelled.

"Because!" Shippo shouted and jumped off the bed. He ran out into the living room.

"Finally." Inuyasha said as he rolled over and buried his head in the pillow.

Kagome sat up and hit Inuyasha. "Get up." She said.

"You too?" Inuyasha mumbled.

"Come on." Kagome tugged on his boxers.

Inuyasha jumped up and grabbed Kagome. He pushed her back onto the bed and climbed on top of her. "I don't want to get up." He said.

"Too bad, you're already awake." Kagome said trying to break free of his grip.

Inuyasha just grinned and leaned down to kiss her neck. Kagome tilted her head to give him better access, but it proved to be useless when Shippo ran into the room, jumping on the bed again.

"Dammit Shippo!" Inuyasha yelled. In an instant he was chasing after him.

Kagome giggled and walked out into the kitchen. "Quit acting like a kid, Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"Yeah, act your age." Shippo stuck his tongue out at Inuyasha.

"Why you little..." Inuyasha yelled and chased after Shippo again.

Kagome shook her head and jumped on Inuyasha's back when he ran passed her. "We have to talk to Shippo remember." Kagome whispered in his ear.

"Alright. Shippo sit down on the couch, we need tot talk." Inuyasha said seriously. He walked over to the couch and set Kagome down.

"What about?" Shippo asked.

"Well, I wanted to know if it was okay if I adopted you." Kagome said.

"Really?" Shippo asked. He jumped up and hugged her. "Does that mean Inuyasha is going to adopt me too? I'll have a mom and dad again?"

"If that's what you want." Inuyasha said. Even though he and Kagome didn't talk about it, he did think about it before he went to sleep.

Kagome was a little shocked. "You should go get changed for daycare." Kagome said.

"Hai." Shippo said and ran into his room.

"What made you think of adopting Shippo too?" Kagome asked.

"Kids need a father figure." Inuyasha shrugged.

Kagome smiled and walked into the kitchen.

Inuyasha dropped Shippo off while Kagome got ready. Rin and Sango should be on their way with their guys. She changed into a simple white summer dress and white heels. She pulled her hair up into a ponytail and waited for someone to get there.

Inuyasha walked in first and sat down on the couch. "Its hard to adopt a kid. It's all paperwork." Inuyasha said.

"What are you talking about?" Kagome asked.

"I went over and got the paperwork for Shippo's adoption. There are a whole bunch of documents to sign." Inuyasha said. "I hate signing stuff."

"You'll survive." Kagome said.

A knock at the door interrupted their conversation. Kagome stood up to answer it. Sango and Rin were at the door. "Ready to go?" Sango asked.

"Be down in a minute." Kagome said. She grabbed her purse and Inuyasha and headed towards the elevator.

"Where do you want to go first?" Rin asked.

"Let's just go anywhere." Sango said.

"How about that store first?" Kagome pointed to a store close by.

The guys just followed knowing they were in a dreadful day of shopping. Store after store they followed the girls who chattered amongst themselves. Every once in a while they would shove some bags at the guys and continue on with their purchases.

Finally after hours of aimless walking around the girls decided they were done. "Finally." Miroku said.

"Shall we take the stairs or the elevator down?" Sango asked.

"Elevator. We wouldn't want the guys to drop our things." Rin said.

"Okay then." Kagome said. They all headed towards the elevator and Sango pushed the down button. They waited for the elevator to open.

As soon as the elevator door opened Kagome was grabbed by the front of her dress and pulled into the elevator. Before anyone could comprehend what had happened the elevator had shut.

Inuyasha dropped the bags and banged on the elevator door. "KAGOME!" He shouted.

"Who grabbed her?" Sango asked.

"I think it was Kouga." Rin said.

"Kouga?" Inuyasha yelled. "That bastard."
