After the girls had finished getting dressed they joined the guys to find that camp had already been set up, dinner was even cooking.

 

“Sesshomaru would you and Rin care to join us for dinner?” Kagome invited. Inuyasha started sputtering and Sesshomaru smirked and not wanting to pass up the opportunity to bug his brother said

 

“Thank you for the invitation miko. But first this Sesshomaru wishes to know why you are with Rin.” The group all shared a look and Miroku suggested,

 

“Why don't we all sit down?” After everyone was seated and comfortable Miroku launched into the tale starting from when they heard the shout. Rin looked slightly embarrassed when he got to the part about her falling down but did not interrupt.

 

After hearing the tale the demon lord stood and asked, “Inuyasha would you come and talk with this Sesshomaru?” Everyone turned and stared at the demon lord in shock, both because he hadn't ordered it and that he would actually want to speak to his younger brother. Too stunned to argue Inuyasha followed Sesshomaru till they were out of ear shot of the others.

 

“Inuyasha, originally I blamed you for father's death even though I knew you were but an infant. I needed to blame someone and you were a convenient target. After a while when you survived dispute the odds against you I slowly began to respect you. You and your pack are strong and I would ask something of you.” Inuyasha was speechless for a moment but recovered.

 

“Okay. Shoot.”

 

“How did you know what to say to the Human?” Sesshomaru said the word with a sneer. Inuyasha looked at him with a confused expression on his face,

 

“Huh? What do you mean?” Sesshomaru sighed and explained.

 

“What you said was, although a crude form, a judgment. When you punched him that was an acceptable punishment for his crimes. You know that I have Lieutenants throughout my lands.” He waited for Inuyasha's nod before continuing.

 

“Do you know what they do?” At this Inuyasha shock his head.

 

“They are assigned to different regains and they oversee what goes on there and report directly to me. If they see something wrong and don't have time to inform me ahead of time then they take care of it.

 

“I need someone I can trust and that I respect for an important position. Can I get you to fill this position?” All Inuyasha could think to ask was an incredulous,

 

“You trust me?”

 

“If you give your word you will keep it. Besides you and your pack have yet to ignore someone in trouble. This way it is just your job to do it not charity.” Inuyasha ponders the offer for a moment,

 

“I won't do it without the others. And if you agree to that I'll have to ask them if they want to before saying yes.” Sesshomaru nodded,

 

“That is acceptable.”

 

The brothers returned to camp in time for dinner. As everyone eats Inuyasha turns to his friends and explains Sesshomaru's offer to them.

 

“I told him its' an all or nothing deal. If you guys want we can take it or will leave it if you want.” The humans, and Shippo, are shocked by the offer. Being the voice of reason Miroku asks an important question,

 

“What does the job entail Sesshomaru-sama?”

 

“Inuyasha would be one of my Lieutenants and you would be his command group, which most Lieutenants have by the way. You would travel the land investigating like a regular group except, you would not be assigned a specific area and you would even check in on others of your position to see if they are doing their job correctly.” Kagome is the first to answer,

 

“I think we should do it! We were looking for something to do with ourselves anyway.” Inside she was over joyed that the brothers were starting to get along. Miroku was next,

 

“Kagome is right and it will be an interesting learning experience.”

 

“We stick together,” Sango agreed. Shippo, getting into the swing of things, excitedly rang out,

 

“I want to be one too!!” Everyone looks at him and he knew what was coming,

 

“Maybe when tour older.” Kagome told him, proving his suspicions right.
