Sorry for the lack of updates but my Grandfather had emergency surgery. It wasn't major but he is older. Anyway on with the story.

The setting sun painted the world in an orange glow as the newly official pack made their way to a hut on the edge of a small village. Upon entering the hut they were greeted by an elderly woman cooking dinner.

“What happened to ye?” She inquired in her age roughened voice, noticing the bandaged hands.

“Kagome adopted me!” A hyper Shippo exclaimed from his mother's shoulder.

“That's nice, but what does that have to do with yer hands being bandaged?”
Miroku took it upon himself to explain as Inuyasha was sitting silently in his corner; Kagome and Shippo were collecting water and Sango helped Kaede cook.

“We performed a ceremony of sorts and are now a recognized pack. Kagome and Shippo have both hands cut because of the adoption. Inuyasha and Myoga explained that it made a difference, him being adopted or not. The wounds will change into marks that can be recognized by other demons.”

“I see. That is good for when ye are in the West.” Kaede looked as unflappable as ever as she asked about their imminent departure. “When are you leaving?”

“Tomorrow, mid-morning, Old Hag.”

“I whish you well then. And you will have to return to tell me how it went.”

They all sat down for a rather solemn dinner with everyone thinking about the up coming journey with a back drop of normal night sounds.

By force of habit built up over the years of traveling the group woke at dawn. Because of the afore mentioned habit and the fact that it was always the six of them, they had settled into their routine for the mornings. Kagome and Shippo packed up their stuff, Sango cooked breakfast, and Inuyasha went to collect the water for the day. Kilala and Miroku's job of keeping guard and putting out the fire respectively were usually for when they were camping not in a village. After saying good-bye to Kaede they left in normal walking order; Inuyasha in front, Kagome and Sango in the middle carrying Shippo and Kilala followed by Miroku admiring the view.

“The rooms you requested are prepared and the Lords are here.” Jaken stated as he groveled before the regal youkai. The lumps on his head showing what had happened earlier when he voiced his opinions about the soon to be Lord and his pack. Sesshomaru grunted before leaving his study to grace to the entrance hall. Upon entering he saw the three stationary Lords of his realm.

The eldest, Lord Kiyoshi, was probably Sesshomaru's favorite and the only one whom he had quite a lot of respect for. Which is surprising because Kiyoshi was the only one not an Inu. He is a snow kitsune with white hair to his shoulders, light brown eyes on a sharp face which topped a slim but well muscled frame. On his right was Lord Akiyama an extremely tall and bulky youkai. His hair was like a dog's, black on top with a cream under coat, so long it brushed the ground, even tied in a braid. His eyes were brown with a light golden tint and the most notable trait on his rather narrow face. These two seemed to be ignoring the third Lord, Kin. Lord Kin is arrogant and annoying to say the least, but he is charismatic, strong and knows his job as he was raised to do it. His father had served and died with Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father and he was expected to follow in his father's foot steps. Lord Kin while heavily muscled was relatively short with black hair to his shoulder blades surrounding a round face with golden eyes.

“Ah, there you are Sesshomaru-sama. What is it you have asked us here for?” Kiyoshi's steady mid-range voice carried through the hall as the other two turned to regard their Lord.

“Come this way and we will discus it.” Came the indifferent response as Sesshomaru led the way to his conference room.

The conference room was a comfortable room done in different woods with a rectangular table dominating the room. A window took up almost the entire western wall opposite the door, showing a view of the gardens and a fire place was in the north wall. Sesshomaru sat at the head of the table with Kiyoshi on his left, Akiyama and Kin sat to his right, in that order.

“I have come to conclusion as to who I am going to appoint to the position of my second.” The tension that suddenly sprang up in the room was palpable; the rulers of the other lands had been pressuring Sesshomaru to find someone to fill this position for some time now. They were all eager to find out who their Lord had finally found who he trusted and had enough confidence in to do the job. Kiyoshi and Akiyama looked curious and Kin looked expectant as if he thought it would be him.

`This Sesshomaru shall draw it out. It would do them good to be kept on their toes.'

“As you know this Sesshomaru was his Father's second and after this Sesshomaru took over the Western Lands the position has been empty. This Sesshomaru knows who his father wanted to be my second and after much thought and recent events I have decided to follow his wishes.”
Kiyoshi, the only lord who had served under Sesshomaru's Father left alive, chocked when Sesshomaru announced that. The others stared at him, though not as imperturbable as Sesshomaru he usually had great self-control so such a reaction was unexpected.

“This Sesshomaru assumes his Father made it known to you whom he chose.”

“Yes. Yes Sesshomaru-sama he did, though I must admit to being surprised that you would agree to it.” By the time he responded the kitsune Lord had regained his calm demeanor. The other two Lords were, although they did a good job of disguising it, nervous at the exchange going on in front of them. Akiyama, in his deep gravely voice asked,

“Who is it that would cause this much fuss?”

Sesshomaru turned to stare out the window, gazing out he saw Rin gathering flowers which would not doubt be decorating his study later, and opted to tell them of the circumstances first. He explained what that human lord had tried to do to Rin; they inwardly cringed at the thought of what would happen to anyone hurting that particular child. He turned back around when he got to the part where Inuyasha and the rest came in.

“When the human,” he said the word like it left a bad taste in his mouth, “Hit her,” another inward cringe for the other lords, “a young woman rushed to aid her. The foolish human proceeded to insult her and still wished to take Rin when one of the young woman's friends stepped in. He grabbed the human and gave an, although crude, effective spoken judgment and knocked the fool unconscious.”

“I take it this is the person who you wish to appoint Sesshomaru-sama. I trust he's not human.” Kin said the last part laughingly, though he wondered what a demon was doing in a human village. Kin received a glare and a response.

“No he is not human. This Sesshomaru merely whished to describe one incidence that prompted me to make this decision.”

“What else made you come to this conclusion?” Kiyoshi inquired, honestly curious as to what had ended the decades long resentment between the brothers.

“He and his group also defeated Naraku. This Sesshomaru shall explain more after you are informed of his identity. The person who shall be the second of the West is this Sesshomaru's half-brother Inuyasha.”

Hehehe, I am Evil.
