Chapter 15

New Family Member

Kagome woke up to the sound of an alarm clock. It was weird because she didn't set an alarm clock. She got up and walked over to her desk and shut it off. It was her mom's clock. Next to it was a note.

Dear Kagome,

I have set my alarm clock for you because I told the police station you'd pick the little boy up at ten. His name is Shippo. He's a kitsune youkai. (But you shouldn't have any problems with him because of Inuyasha) He looks no more than three years old. He won't talk to anyone so we'll have to deal with what the police have told me. You shouldn't have any problems though. I've left money to get him some things he needs and I left a credit card just in case. Just enroll him at Souta's school and show him around. Hopefully he'll open up to you. If you need anything just call my work.

Mom

Kagome walked to the bathroom and got in the shower. She got dressed and threw the money, note, and credit card in her purse. She decided to walk to the police station since it was such a nice day. It would be easier to get around if they walked.

When she got to the police station she looked around for someone to talk to. "Hi I'm here to pick up a little boy. My family is taking him in." Kagome said to an officer.

"Oh you're Higurashi, Kagome?" He said.

"Hai." She said.

The officer looked her up and down. "You look a little young to be adopting a little boy." He said.

"Not that it's any of your business my mother is adopting him. She's at work and asked me to pick him up in her place." Kagome said.

"Yeah well follow me." He said. When they got to the back he pointed to a door. "He's in there."

Kagome looked through the window. The little boy looked so young. She turned around to say thank you but the guy had already left. She walked in the room. "Hi are you Shippo?" She asked.

He didn't respond at all. "I'm Kagome." She said. "My family will be taking you in."

Finally a response. He looked up and stared at her. "You're going to be my new mom?" He said. It sounded like he didn't want to replace his parents.

"No, no one is going to be your new mom. No one can ever replace your parents." Kagome said. "I don't want to replace anyone that was special to you."

He seemed to relax a little. "How old are you?" He asked.

"I'm seventeen." She said.

Shippo laughed. "I thought you were going to be my mom. You're too young." He said.

"At least you realized that. The cop out there thought I was adopting you." Kagome said. "How about we go get something to eat so we can get to know each other?"

Shippo's spirits rose a little. "Hai." He got out of the chair and walked beside her. They left the station after telling someone she had Shippo with her.

"So what would you like to eat?" She asked. "You can pick."

"I can choose anything?" He asked. Kagome nodded. "Can we have ramen?"

Kagome laughed at the way his eyes lit up when he said ramen. "Hai I know a great place." Thanks to Inuyasha's obsession for ramen she was well known at the restaurant.

When they walked into the restaurant they were greeted by some of the workers. "Kagome you haven't been here for a while." Hojo said.

"Gomen Hojo but I guess Inuyasha hasn't felt like eating ramen for a while." She laughed.

"You still go out?" Hojo asked.

"Hai." Kagome said. Hojo looked sad and took their orders. While waiting for their food they talked. She wanted to get him as relaxed as he could be since he was going to be living with them.

After they ate Kagome enrolled him in school and they went shopping. A lot of Shippo's stuff was lost in a fire. She bought him some new clothes and toys. He looked a lot happier than this morning.

"Well it's late." Kagome said. "We should be heading home so we can put your stuff away. I'm sure your tired."

"Hai." Shippo said. He'd grown attached to Kagome in the little time they'd known each other. It was like she understood him. She was one of the few people who did. The others were his parents.

When they got back Kagome helped Shippo put his things away and set his room up the way he liked it. "You'll meet my little brother later." Kagome said. She heard a knock at the door.

They both walked downstairs to answer it. Inuyasha was standing at the door and he looked mad. Shippo growled and grabbed onto Kagome's leg. She looked down and smiled.

"Where the hell have you been?" Inuyasha asked.

"I was out with Shippo." Kagome said.

"Who the hell is Shippo?" Inuyasha yelled. He failed to notice Shippo clinging onto Kagome's leg. When he heard a male's name he immediately became jealous.

"Shippo is right here." Kagome said. She knew he didn't notice him or he would've sniffed him out by now.

"Where? If I find out it's another one of those fucking guys who's trying to get in your pants I'll rip them apart." Inuyasha yelled.

"Don't talk like that in front of him." Kagome said.

Inuyasha was about to say something but stopped when he noticed the scent. "He's a kitsune." He said. He sniffed some more. "He's only a little kid."

"If you would have stopped yelling you'd notice he was right beside me." Kagome said.

Inuyasha looked down at her leg. Damn his jealousy. He would've noticed him the minute she opened the door if he wasn't so mad. "Is he another one of Souta's friends?"

"No, I'd rather talk about this later." Kagome said.

"Fine but you could've at least told me you'd be gone." Inuyasha said.

"Why do I need to tell you where I go if I'm not with you?" Kagome said.

"Because." Inuyasha said.

"Great answer." Kagome said. She shut the door. "I'll talk to you later Inuyasha oyasumi."

Inuyasha sighed. He rushed all the way over to her house when she didn't answer the phone. She was usually with him. He'd even called Sango and Miroku to see if she was with them. He decided to go home and get an answer from her later.

"You can let go of my leg now Shippo he's gone." Kagome said.

He hesitated before he let her go. "Who was that?" He asked.

"That was Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"He's your mate?"

"No, he's not my mate, he's my boyfriend." She blushed. He really was older than he led on.

"I don't like him." Shippo said.

Kagome giggled. "How about we play a game until my mom gets here?"

Shippo nodded and they went to look for a game to play. They played video games and a couple of board games. They decided to watch a movie until her mom came home. Which would be any minute now.

Her mom was a little late. "Sorry I'm late dear I thought I'd pick up some cake to celebrate Shippo's arrival." Her mom said.

They were up for hours. Kagome's mom got to know Shippo a little better. After a while they decided to finish the movie they'd been watching. Kagome's mom noticed Shippo was more relaxed with Kagome than herself.

She didn't mind. She figured Shippo would love Kagome the minute they met. That's another reason why she wanted Kagome to pick Shippo up. She did have work but she thought Shippo would think Kagome was more understanding.

They sent Shippo up to bed while they cleaned up the mess. "So did you have fun today?" Kagome's mom asked.

"Hai." Kagome said.

"So what did you do?"

"Well we ate and went shopping. Unfortunately he met Inuyasha today."

"Really?"

"Hai, he thought Shippo was some older guy."

"Have you told him who he is?"

"He saw Shippo today. He went with me to answer the door and attached to my leg the minute he saw Inuyasha. He wouldn't let go until he left."

"Well he likes you." Her mom said.

"Well I'm going to bed." Kagome said. "How will Shippo go to school tomorrow?"

"Well I figured he might want to stay tomorrow so I took the day off." Her mom said.

"Oyasumi." Kagome said.

"Oyasumi." Her mom said.

Kagome walked up to her room to sleep. She passed Shippo's room and heard crying. She opened the door a little and saw Shippo with his head buried in his pillow. She couldn't blame him for crying.

She walked in and hugged him. "It's ok Shippo." Kagome said.

He held on to her as if his life depended on it. He cried himself to sleep. Kagome walked back downstairs to get some water. "You're still up." Her mom said.

"Hai, Shippo was crying so I tried to comfort him." Kagome said.

"He tries to put on a tough act." Her mom said. "Maybe you should stay home from school tomorrow to comfort him. I think he likes you better."

"I could do that." Kagome said. "You can go ahead and go to work then."

"I'll call them later." Her mom said.

Kagome walked up to her room to sleep. She changed into her pajamas and got into bed. She heard a knock. "Come in." She said. Shippo walked into her room. "Shippo is something wrong?" She sat up.

"I-I had a bad dream." He said. He looked really scared from it too. "I don't want to go to school tomorrow."

"Well you won't be going to school tomorrow." Kagome said. "I'm going to stay home from school with you until you get used to things."

Shippo smiled but then it disappeared. "Can I?" He stopped.

"Can you what?" Kagome asked.

"Can I sleep in your room?" He asked.

"If you want to." Kagome said. She opened up her blanket and let him crawl in. He snuggled close to her and sighed.

"Arigato." He said. Kagome smiled and they both went to sleep.

Aww isn't that sweet? I had to leave in the motherly bond Kagome has with Shippo. She'll act more like a mom to him than Ms. Higurashi. So basically their relationship is the same. So is the one between Inuyasha and Shippo. Hope you like this chapter. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.
