Chapter 11

 

Confusion

 

Instead of going out to lunch the group decided to go on a picnic. Sango and Miroku were already going to take Shippo and Inuko on a picnic before Inuyasha called. So they packed some extra food and headed to the park to meet Inuyasha and Kagome. It wasn't long before they all met at the place they'd all decided on.

 

“Thanks again for watching them.” Kagome said as she took Inuko from Sango's arms. She held Inuko with one arm while holding Shippo's hand with the other.

 

“It's nothing.” Sango said. “We like having them over. Don't we Miroku?”

 

“Of course! Babysitting only makes Sango think more about us having kids at all.” Miroku beamed.

 

“Miroku! Baka!” Sango blushed furiously and would've hit Miroku harder than she did but he was holding the food.

 

“Great. Like we really need another pervert in the world.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

 

“That's great news.” Kagome elbowed Inuyasha.

 

Sango opened the blanket and laid it down on the ground for everyone to sit. Miroku put the picnic basket down and started laying the food out.

 

“Ah Kagome-sama!”

 

Kagome looked up to see Mika once again. “Oh, Nami! What a coincidence.” She smiled.

 

“I was just taking a walk. I didn't expect to see you here.” Nami took a step closer.

 

“Oh Nami, this is my best friend Sango, her boyfriend Miroku. This is Shippo and Inuko, my sons and you've already met Inuyasha...unfortunately.” She grumbled the last part. Shippo laughed and fell over onto his back.

 

“OI!” Inuyasha yelled.

 

“Oh this was the family you were talking about?” Nami asked.

 

“Hai. This is my family.” Kagome smiled. She handed Inuko over to Inuyasha and stood up. “Would you like to join us? I'm sure no one would...mind...”

 

Kagome trailed off as she watched Nami pull something out of her pocket. That something just happened to be a gun. Before anyone else could react Nami fired the shot at Kagome, and took off in a run. Hearing the shot many people turned to see what happened.

 

“Kagome?” Inuyasha looked up at her only able to see her back. His mind hadn't registered what happened. That is until Kagome fell backwards onto the ground. She was bleeding. “Kagome!”

 

Sango immediately took Inuko from Inuyasha's arms knowing that he would get defensive if she tried to look at Kagome's wound. Miroku held Shippo back and tried to hide him from the sight in front of them. Blood was all over Kagome's shirt and they couldn't tell where she'd gotten shot.

 

“I'm taking her to the hospital!” Inuyasha shouted before gently but quickly scooping her into his arms. Not wasting even a second he rushed to the hospital.

 

“Okaa-san!” Shippo cried, he was trying to fight his way out of Miroku's grasp but was unable to.

 

“Let's go.” Sango said while trying to soothe Inuko.

A couple hours later everyone was still in the waiting room. Inuyasha was impatiently pacing the waiting room. It took over fifteen people to stop Inuyasha from entering the room that Kagome was in. He was still trying to fight his instincts and not go back in. The only thing that was keeping him calm was Shippo hanging on his shoulder sniffling every once in a while and Inuko fussing in his sleep.

 

They couldn't help but worry about Kagome or wonder what the hell Nami had against her. Neither of them could think of a single thing that would anger her enough to take a shot at her, let alone risk going to jail or dying at Inuyasha's wrath. The cops had just left after they reported what happened. They had to go look for Nami now.

 

“Inuyasha-sama?”

 

Inuyasha turned around to see a doctor with a chart in his hand. “How's Kagome is she alright?” he immediately asked.

 

“She's fine. She's sleeping now and we've sewed up her gunshot wound. The bullet went straight through her side. Luckily it missed any organs otherwise she'd be in critical condition.” The doctor said. “I know with you being youkai as well as her mate you'll want her home as soon as possible but an overnight observation is mandatory and we'll go from there to see how she is.”

 

“Can we see her?” Sango asked. She was so relieved to hear Kagome was all right.

 

“She's sleeping and is medicated at the moment. Even if anyone were able to see her it wouldn't do much. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how much pain she feels. We're unsure of how much medication she'll need.” The Doctor explained. “Visiting hours start at noon.”

 

“Thanks.” Inuyasha said. He wanted to see Kagome before he left. He probably wasn't going to get any sleep tonight.

 

“Shall we share a cab home then?” Miroku asked.

“If you'd like we can watch Shippo and Inuko.” Sango offered. She knew how he got without Kagome around.

 

“Thanks but I'd rather them be with me.” Inuyasha said and began walking to his house.

 

“We'll meet you to go visit Kagome at noon!” Miroku said before he entered his house.

 

“I hope he's okay.” Sango sighed.

 

Miroku wrapped and arm around her as they walked into their own house. “It's Inuyasha, as long as Kagome is fine, he's fine. I don't know about that Nami girl though. Maybe we should look into it...”

 

“Going to use your many connections for this one?” Sango asked.

 

“I think this is the one time its necessary.” Miroku said and opened the door for Sango.

Inuyasha carried Shippo and Inuko inside. He asked if Shippo was hungry and made him a sandwich. After Shippo was done eating and Inuko was fed they all went into the living room and laid on the couch. Shippo and Inuko were lying on Inuyasha's chest and the two fell asleep. Inuyasha of course stayed awake worrying.

 

The silence was soon interrupted when the phone rang. Inuyasha wondered who was calling this late at night, probably Miroku with something stupid. He answered the phone. “What?”

 

“Inuyasha, I'm just calling to let you know that no one knows who this Nami girl is.” Miroku said.

 

“What are you talking about?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“I had someone look into finding some stuff out about Nami. I don't know much about her but I called Kaede-sama for some information. I had some connections but no one knows who she is-”

 

“Hold on, I've got someone on the other line.” Inuyasha said. He wanted to hear what Miroku had to say but this late at night if someone called it had to be important. “What?” He answered.

 

“Is this Inuyasha-sama?” An unrecognizable voice asked.

 

“Yes, what do you want? I'm in the middle of an important phone call.” Inuyasha said rudely.

 

“I believe this matter is much more important than your phone call.” The caller said seriously. “It's about your wife...I suggest you come by the hospital immediately.”

 

Before Inuyasha could ask what the hell happened the caller hung up as if in a rush. Inuyasha clicked over to the other line to talk to Miroku. “Miroku I need you to come over and watch Shippo and Inuko.” Inuyasha said. “Someone called to say something happened at the hospital.”

 

“I'll send Sango over and I'll go with you.” Miroku said and hung up the phone.

Inuyasha and Miroku arrived at the hospital not wasting any time at all. He ran up to the front desk startling the nurses. “I got a phone call about my wife!” He shouted.

 

“Oh Inuyasha-sama this way and I'll explain what happened.” Someone from behind Inuyasha said.

 

He turned around to see the cop from earlier waiting for him to follow. “What the fuck happened? Is Kagome all right?” he asked, panic in his voice.

 

“She's fine now. We don't know exactly what happened but we presume someone came in trying to harm her again. When we found her the window was open, her wound had reopened and she was unconscious on the floor.” The Police Officer said. “The doctors have already tended to her and she's resting again. Are you sure that the Nami woman was the only one after her?”

 

“A lot of youkai are after her.” Inuyasha said.

 

“Allow me to explain. Kagome is a very powerful miko, the most powerful known at the moment. Her powers are a threat to most youkai along with many angry humans.” Miroku explained.

 

“I see. Well so far we don't know much about what happened and even though visiting hours are over you may see her.” The Police Officer said.

 

Inuyasha didn't need anyone showing him the rest of the way. He caught Kagome's scent and a hint of blood as he approached her room. Miroku backed off and waited by the door.

 

Not wasting another second Inuyasha ran into the room to Kagome's side grasping her hand. She was pale and looked weak. He kissed her hand and she slightly moved subconsciously closer to him. He'd made up his mind. He was taking her home with him against doctor's orders. They obviously couldn't keep an eye on her. With his decision made he stepped out of the room.

 

“Miroku bring the car around. I'm taking her home.” Inuyasha said.

 

“But she's nowhere near recovering enough to be sent home!” One of the doctors shouted.

 

“I don't give a damn! You didn't do your fucking job and I'm taking MY mate home!” Inuyasha shouted again. “Get whatever she needs right now and someone tell me what the hell needs to be done!”

 

Every single doctor or nurse that was involved with Kagome's treatment rushed around to gather the things he would need and the main doctor scrambled for the computer to write down whatever instructions he would need. They didn't want Kagome to leave but with Inuyasha's anger and youkai blood it was not a good idea to infuriate him any more.

 

Miroku came back up to let Inuyasha know that the car was waiting. He stood with one of the doctors while he explained what would need to be done. Inuyasha was too angry and everyone was too afraid to even speak to him.

 

Inuyasha carried Kagome out to the car while Miroku grabbed whatever else she would need, prescriptions, and instructions. They got into the car leaving scared doctors, nurses, some patients, and a couple of pissed off police officers.

When they got to Inuyasha's house they laid Kagome down and set everything up that she would need. Tomorrow he would arrange for a doctor to come in and check on her every once in a while. He would need to call Sesshomaru and let him know he wasn't going to work.

 

“What the hell happened?” Sango asked in the hallway of Kagome and Inuyasha's room. She would've raised her voice louder but Inuko and Shippo were sleeping.

 

“No one even knows yet.” Miroku said.

 

“We'll have to wait for Kagome to wake up so she can explain. The bastards in the hospital are worthless. I'm calling in a doctor tomorrow to come check on her. One that doesn't work where we had her staying.” Inuyasha said angrily.

 

“If you step out let one of us know and we'll come over and watch her.” Sango said. “Did you want us to take the kids?”

 

“No, as much as I hate to leave Kagome alone I'll stay with the kids. She'd purify my ass if I neglected them.” Inuyasha sighed.

 

“We know how she is.” Sango smiled weakly. “I'll come by tomorrow to check in on her.”

 

Inuyasha nodded and showed them to the door. “Thanks.” He said quietly and shut the door. He walked in to check on Kagome once more before going into Inuko's room where his two kids were sleeping. He sat against the wall after making sure everything was all right.

 

He wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight...

Sorry if that took so long to get out. Like I've said I've been busy trying to find a job and all, which I did! Then I've also had writer's block. I can't even remember where I got the idea for this chapter. Everything in the last few weeks is very vague in my mind at the moment. I'm running on little to no sleep for the last couple months.

 

As you've read I put a twist in the chapter. It was a last minute idea. Everything is spur of the moment with me, but I like it that way so I'm not complaining.
