Chapter 12

 

Nami's Reason

 

Three days later Kagome opened her eyes. She felt groggy and there was a dull pain in her stomach. That's when she remembered what happened. She'd been shot on her right side. She sat up and suppressed a painful moan. It was odd that she was at home and not in the hospital. She was sure that she wasn't supposed to leave but since she was in her own home she assumed Inuyasha had something to do with it.

 

She heard the turning of the doorknob and looked towards the door. Sango gasped and dropped the tray she had in her hands. She had made herself a snack and was going to eat it while watching after Kagome but now that she was awake she forgot about her appetite. She ran over to Kagome and gently hugged her.

 

“Are you all right? How are you feeling? Are you in pain?” Sango asked.

 

Kagome giggled despite the pain. “I'm fine. I only feel a dull ache and I feel exhausted.” She said.

 

“You've been out for three days!” Sango said. “Everyone is worried about you. Even Rin and Sesshomaru stopped by!”

 

“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry anyone.” Kagome tried to get up into a sitting position and hissed at the pain. Sango tried to help but she held up her hand. “I'm fine.”

 

“I should call Inuyasha. If I don't...well you know what he'd do.” Sango rolled her eyes. She left the room to go call Inuyasha as he had asked if she were to wake up.

“What? She's awake!” Inuyasha yelled, scaring anyone in hearing range. As much as he hated to leave Kagome's side he had to go to the office. The police had been trying to contact him and he refused to let them in his house with their bullshit excuses for not capturing Nami. “I'll be right over!”

 

“I take it Kagome is awake.” Sesshomaru said. “If you'll excuse us officers. We'll need to reschedule this questioning session. I'll have my secretary call you tomorrow to reschedule.”

 

“Actually we should come along. We have some questions for her.” One of the police officers said.

 

“No fucking way are you coming into MY house! She just fucking woke up. When she recovers we'll call you!” Inuyasha growled violently.

 

“I'd suggest you listen to him. I'm sure you have youkai in your police department. I'd think it wise if you wait for his phone call.” Sesshomaru said. “Now like I said, excuse us while we go visit her.”

 

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru walked out of the room. Sesshomaru urged Rin to follow him. She grabbed her purse and quickly caught up to them asking what was going on. After an explanation Rin started to hurry them even more.

Kagome blushed furiously as everyone in the room watched as Inuyasha and Shippo practically jumped her. Careful of course they immediately went to her side. Shippo was careful to avoid her wound and hugged her tightly. Inuyasha ignored all the looks and kissed her despite her protests.

 

Miroku handed Inuko over to her and she kissed his forehead. “This attention really isn't necessary.” Kagome said still blushing. She'd never had this much attention before.

 

“You had us all worried.” Rin said. “I heard what happened.”

 

“Did you find anything out about Nami?” Kagome asked.

 

“No.” Sesshomaru said. “Nothing at all. We even turned to Kaede-sama for some information but she knew nothing that could help us.”

 

“What the hell happened to you?” Inuyasha asked. “I was called in the middle of the night to come in because something happened.”

 

Kagome sighed and leaned back into her pillows. This was going to be a hard event to remember. “Well...” She began. “I was sleeping in the hospital when I felt a pain on the gunshot wound. I started screaming and opened my eyes. I saw Nami standing in front of me. She was pressing down on the wound. She pushed me off my bed and I had to rip the needles out of my arms because it hurt so badly.”

 

“That fucking Bitch!” Inuyasha growled.

 

“Let her finish.” Sesshomaru interrupted his anger.

 

“Well...”

 

*FLASHBACK*

 

Kagome was sleeping peacefully after a long time of suffering from pain until she once again felt more pain. She screamed and opened her eyes to see what was wrong. Nami stood in front of her, looking at her angrily, her hand pressed against her gunshot wound.

 

“Na...mi...” Kagome said in pain. Nami pushed her off the bed causing Kagome to scream once again. She had to pull the needles out of her arms. They were too painful and she could barely move. “Why are you doing this?”

 

“Why? Why? Because you took everything away from me!” Nami shouted angrily. Her aura intensified and seemed to suffocate Kagome.

 

“I don't...understand.” Kagome said as she began to use her hands to crawl back up against the hospital wall.

 

“Of course you don't! You just got rid of the problem altogether!” Nami screamed. She walked up to Kagome and pressed her foot against the wound, causing her to scream once more.

 

`Why hasn't anyone come?' Kagome wondered, trying to stay conscious. “What do...you mean?” She asked, suppressing another scream of pain.

 

“Does the name Naraku ring a bell?” Nami asked.

 

Kagome's eyes widened. “N-Naraku?” Kagome repeated in disbelief. How could Nami have been involved with him?

 

“Hai, he was my fiancé but called it off because of you! Then you killed him!” Nami shouted. Tears streaked her face. “I loved him and you took him away from me!”

 

“I...” Kagome couldn't think of anything in her defense. No matter what she said Nami wouldn't believe her. Nami put more pressure on Kagome's wound and she was becoming dizzy. The last thing she remembered was hearing some voices and then everything became black.

 

*END FLASHBACK*

 

“You're joking.” Sango said.

 

“No that's what happened.” Kagome yawned and grabbed her side.

 

“I think we should leave Kagome to rest.” Sesshomaru said. “Has the doctor come in to see her today?”

 

“No.” Inuyasha said.

 

“Better call him and have him take a look at her while she's still awake. Hope you feel better Kagome. We'll come back to visit, right now I have some things to look up.” Sesshomaru said while grabbing Rin's hand.

 

“I'll come back tomorrow!” Rin waved. “I'll bring you something nice!”

 

“Bye Sesshomaru, Rin, thanks for checking on me!” Kagome shouted to them despite the pain.

 

Inuyasha grabbed a bottle on the nightstand and handed some pills to her along with a glass of water. “Take these.” He said.

 

“I don't want them.” Kagome moved away from his hand. She didn't like medicine.

 

“Take the medicine! You scared the shit out of me after all that's happened!” Inuyasha said in an angry but concerned voice.

 

“You might as well. He's been worried sick about you and hasn't slept in three days.” Miroku added, trying to get Kagome to swallow the pills.

 

Kagome eyed the pills and sighed. She took them from Inuyasha's hand and swallowed them. She didn't like the feeling of being drowsy. She felt too helpless and hated that feeling most of all. She'd rather suffer with the pain... She was already feeling tired and her eyes were drooping closed.

 

“Try and stay awake. At least until the doctor gets here.” Inuyasha said in a soothing voice and held her hand. Shippo and Inuko had fallen asleep long ago, reveling in the fact that she was ok.

 

“I'll try...” Kagome yawned.

Almost immediately after the doctor left Kagome fell asleep. She'd fought sleeping for over an hour and was completely exhausted. Inuyasha was relieved that she was all right. He'd fallen asleep soon after Miroku and Sango had left. He fell asleep right next to Kagome, along with Inuko and Shippo.

“This is ridiculous.” Kagome sighed. “I can move around!”

 

“No, you can't! You heard what the doctor said! You can't even try to get up for another three days and that's only if he says your well enough too!” Inuyasha shouted. “And if you think I'm going to let you get up before that you thought wrong! You'll be lucky if I let you up even after the doctor says its okay!”

 

“But you can't cook! I'm not going to eat fast food until I can walk around!” Kagome shouted. She was still in bed and had woken up only hours after she had just fallen asleep. She was already starting to go insane for not being able to walk around.

 

“I'll learn how to cook then!” Inuyasha shouted.

 

“The last time you tried to cook you almost burned the kitchen down and you were only boiling water!” Kagome threw her pillow at him. He knew better than to even offer to cook.

 

“Umm, hello...” Sango poked her head into the room. No one had answered the door when she knocked and so she opened it. The first thing she heard was shouting in their bedroom.

 

“Oh Sango!” Kagome said excitedly. Now there would be no more arguing. Her head was already hurting and she wasn't going to let Inuyasha know...

 

“I knocked but no one answered. What's all the shouting about?” Sango asked as she sat on the bed with Kagome.

 

“Inuyasha is trying to cook.” Kagome crossed her arms. “He won't let me get up to cook so he's offering to because I refuse to eat fast food.”

 

“But he'll just set the kitchen on fire again!” Sango shouted.

 

“That's what I said!” Kagome threw her hands up in frustration.

 

“This is stupid!” Inuyasha ripped the pillow in half.

 

“Inuyasha!” Kagome threw another pillow at him.

 

“How about I cook!” Sango finally said. “This way you don't have to eat take out and Inuyasha won't set anything on fire!”

 

“That's a great idea!” Kagome said. “I love your cooking!”

 

“Thanks!” Sango said and turned to Inuyasha giving him a dry look. “Is that alright with you?”

 

“That's fine but I don't want to hear anymore bitching.” Inuyasha turned to leave the room.

 

“So he's driving you insane with his protectiveness?” Sango asked once he left the room.

 

“Hai. I woke up just a little bit ago and he's telling me to go back to sleep already.” Kagome sighed.

 

“Well Miroku and Sesshomaru are doing their best to track down Nami.” Sango informed her.

 

“Tell them thanks.” Kagome looked out the window. “I can't help but feel bad. I mean Naraku was evil to me but to her he was her love.”

 

“It still doesn't justify that she shot you.” Sango said. “If she can't handle the fact that he loved someone else then for her it wasn't really love. She was just obsessed. None of us know the details so we can't really say much.”

 

“I know...I just can't help it.” Kagome fluffed her pillows so that she was more comfortable to sit up.

 

“Are you feeling ok?” Sango asked.

 

“I'm alright. These pillows aren't that comfortable to sit up with.” Kagome smiled.

 

“Maybe Inuyasha can go buy better pillows.” Sango said.

 

“No, he's already done enough. You all have.” Kagome smiled. “Thanks.”

 

“Of course! We're a family remember!” Sango said happily.

 

Kagome looked away again to the window. She couldn't help but feel that Nami wasn't going to just leave her alone...
