Chapter 4: Questions Answered

Okay, I am sorry if the characters answers aren't very realistic. And I thank shadowwolf 02 for the review, I did turn on the thingy in the profile, so maybe that will help, thanks. And about the 13 thing, um…yeah, all you need to know is I really am 13, and um, yeah, I'm kinda known about “that” kind of stuff for a long time, since like 1st grade…ANYway, on with the story!!

The X rated things come later…when things start getting figured out and such.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha, but how much I wish I did!!!

-----------------------------

“I'm so glad you're here. A demon with a jewel shard is in the mountain!” Inuyasha smiled at the possibility of getting a jewel shard.

“How do you know about this demon?” Miroku asked the beautiful woman. He was about to grope her, when a mantis youkai attacked the village. He actually thanked the mantis because he was afraid of getting slapped.

The demon rampaged through the town and the villagers ran for their lives. Inuyasha looked at Kagome and she watched the mantis. After a couple seconds, she saw a bright pink light in one of the demon's legs. When she told Inuyasha, he smirked. Drawing Tetsusaiga, he jumped into the air. The mantis saw this and turned towards him.

This movement gave Sango the opportunity to throw Hiraikotsu, cutting off one of the mantis's legs, but not the one they needed. Inuyasha landed on the youkai's back and drove Tetsusaiga through its middle. The mantis let out a wail, but when Inuyasha left his back, he regenerated the wound.

The mantis youkai tried to puncture Inuyasha, but an arrow disintegrated his whole leg. Kagome smiled and Shippo laughed behind her. The demon didn't regenerate, because that leg had been the one with the Shikon shard.

“Wind Scar!” Inuyasha finished the battle with a final blow from Tetsusaiga, while Kagome searched for the Shikon shard. The women who sent for the group was holding the shard and when she was going to hand it to Kagome, she ran off with it.

“Inuyasha, that woman ran off with the jewel shard!” Inuyasha looked at Kagome disbelievingly and let out a string of curses. He picked her up and took off after the woman who stole their shard. Miroku, Sango, and Shippo jumped on Kirara and followed at top speed.

No matter how fast they seemed to run, they couldn't catch up to the woman. It felt like they ran for hours. But finally, in the distance, they saw a small hut with a fire outside. Thatt's where Inuyasha smelled the woman's scent.

“I don't understand, she was human, and a pure human at that, did you see how pure the shard was in her hand?” Kagome said with a disappointed look. “I think she was a priestess.”

“Who cares, she took the shard and she's going to give it back.” Inuyasha gave a snarl and slammed the door of the hut open, which led them to a trap. A strong wind sucked them to the center of the room. It was dusty, but with a warm glow from the candles. Green plant like things emerged from the floor and ensnared the team's legs. When they were completely bound, they were risen into the air, and a mysterious purple gas began to fill the room, causing them to instinctively hold their breath.

“There is no need.” The group looked at the now open door to a second room in the hut and saw the woman from before, and a hooded figure. “All the gas has to do is touch your skin, and you will have to tell the truth. But only to your abilities to answer…no point in explaining further, lets begin. This is your first trial, but I'm afraid it will be one of the toughest.”

“I can handle any thing you throw at me demon!” Inuyasha declared, making the hooded figure chuckle, a woman's chuckle.

“There is no fight here, Inuyasha. Just answers.” Inuyasha got a confused look and growled when his vines began to carry him towards the room. “This is the effect of…Sakimi's power, the vines, but do not worry, you just have to answer 11 questions correctly, but only you know the correct answers, I only evaluate them.” Inuyasha struggled against the woman who had called them to the village, Sakimi. Her vines were holding him tight and seemed to be made with miko power.

Inuyasha stopped moving and the door to the room closed, sealing him from the others. The hooded woman took no time in starting to ask her 11 questions. “What is your greatest fear?”

Inuyasha blinked and was compelled to answer what he thought, “I fear nothing.”

“What is your deepest fear?” (I know some of you are thinking that these two questions are the same, but they are just similar, they are different, but subtly, and it's kind of hard to explain, so if you don't get what I'm saying, sorry, maybe you'll know after you hear answers.)

Inuyasha again had to answer, “I fear nothing.” Both times, Inuyasha seemed to answer like a robot, with no control of his mouth.

“Who do you love?”

A blush appeared on his face and all he did was, “Uh…”

“What do you love?” As soon as the hooded figure got her answer, she would ask the next. In the same robotic monotone as Inuyasha.

“I love to fight.”

“What do you hate?”

“Naraku!”

What is your purpose in life?”

“Umm…” Inuyasha didn't exactly know an answer, he had a mission to kill Naraku, but was that his whole purpose in life?

“What have you lost?”

“…Kikyo…”

“What do you wish to gain?”

“To be a full youkai.”

“What do you protect?”

“I protect Kagome, Kikyo, Miroku, Sango, Shippo, Kirara, Tetsusaiga, and myself.”

“What protects you?”

“Myself.”

“Who are you?”

“Inuyasha.” After the last question, Inuyasha felt weird, but was increasingly angry at the hooded figure for what she said next.

“No…you are not the true Inuyasha… not yet. You only have confidence in your fighting ability and refuse to see and feel the truth. All in all, you are not Inuyasha, you are insecure and stubborn.” Inuyasha's eyes flared and was about to say something when he was transported from the room, then another appeared, Miroku.

“What is your greatest fear?” Once again, just like Inuyasha, Miroku had to answer with the first thing that came to mind.

“The wind tunnel.”

“What is your deepest fear?”

“To die before killing Naraku and losing Sango.”

“Who do you love?”

“Sango.”

“What do you love?”

“Women.”

“What do you hate?”

“Naraku.”

What is your purpose in life?”

“To kill Naraku, and then marry Sango and have children with her.”

What have you lost?”

My father, grandfather, and life.”

What do you wish to gain?”

“I want freedom from this curse, and I want Sango.”

“What do you protect?”

“My life and my companions.”

“What protects you?”

“My companions.”

“Who are you?”

“Miroku, a monk of Buddha.”

“Better than the last one…but still not what I'm looking for in answers. You fear being drawn into the wind tunnel, are confident with women in general, except the one you really love. You are not the Miroku you could be, but you are still Miroku…” Miroku's mouth was open at the power of his own mouth, he just told this demon his weaknesses and answered every question she asked with no control. With mouth still very much agap, Miroku disappeared, and next was Shippo.

Shippo gasped at the demon and struggled, but when the woman began to ask questions, he stopped and answered in the same monotine as everyone else.

“What is your greatest fear?”

“To lose Kagome and everyone else.”

“What is your deepest fear?”

“To be alone.”

“Who do you love?”

“Kagome and the others.”

“What do you love?”

“I love being with everyone.”

“What do you hate?”

“Naraku…Thunder brothers.”

“What is your purpose in life?”

“I don't know yet, to follow Kagome?”

“What have you lost?”

“My parents.”

“What do you wish to gain?”

“A family.”

“What do you protect?”

“Nothing.”

“What protects you?”

“Everyone.”

“Who are you?”

“Shippo.”

“…To think a mere child…knows himself more than grown men…Yes, you are Shippo, all you need to do…is live, and become a grown Shippo…my advice, practice your magic, so you don't depend on the others so…” Shippo smiled at the woman, because unlike Inuyasha and Miroku, he knew that the only thing this person was trying to do was help them. The woman secretly smiled back at Shippo, but he couldn't see, because her face was hidden. But just like Inuyasha and Miroku, Shippo disappeared from the room to be replaced by Miroku's fiancé, Sango, with the little fire neko beside her.

The hooded woman began her questioning. “What is your greatest fear?”

Sango didn't think, but said in instant response, “To lose Kohaku…”

Again, the woman asked, “What is your deepest fear?”

Sango replied, “To not be truly loved by Miroku and to not have the ability to avenge my village and get my brother back.”

“Who do you love?”

“Miroku…Kohaku…”

“What do you love?”

“Being who I am and being with the others.”

“What do you hate?”

“Naraku”

“What is your purpose in life?”

“To avenge my kind.”

“What have you lost?”

“My family.”

“What do you wish to gain?”

“Kohaku…and Miroku.”

“What do you protect?”

“Kohaku and my friends.”

“What protects you?”

“My friends and Kirara.”

“Who are you?”

“Sango”

“You have honor…and values, but are too angry, and not confident when it comes to Miroku. You are Sango, but not the true Sango.” Sango didn't reply, just stared at the ground. She disappeared and a certain miko appeared in the room.

“Hello Kagome, let's see if you live up to your expectations…What is your greatest fear?”

“To be separated from Inuyasha and my friends.” Kagome felt compelled to answer, but not just because of the spell she was under, she felt as if she could trust this woman, even if she hid herself and trapped them here…

“What is your deepest fear?”

“To not be myself”

“Who do you love?”

“My friends, family, and Inuyasha.”

“What do you love?”

“Being with everyone…”

“What do you hate?”

“I hate how Naraku hurts people.” The woman smiled broadly at this. Kagome said she hated what Naraku did but not Naraku himself.

“What is your purpose in life?”

“To collect the Shikon shards.” The woman frowned at this a little, but continued.

“What have you lost?”

“Nothing.”

“What do you wish to gain?”

“Nothing.”

“What do you protect?”

“My friends, Inuyasha, and the Shikon shards.”

“What protects you?”

“Inuyasha and my friends.”

“Who are you?”

“Higurashi Kagome, 9th grade student and a miko.”

“Hmmm…difficult. You have a very pure soul, the most pure I have ever seen…no darkness. You love Inuyasha…but are satisfied by being by his side. You do not believe you have lost anything, even though you have…You think of everyone else before yourself…Yes, you are…Higurashi Kagome…not the reincarnation of Kikyo, not a shard detector…you are just Kagome, a pure soul, all you need to do is live your life.” Kagome felt herself leave the woman's presence and rejoin the others. She looked around and saw their faces, and almost screamed when the vines released her and the others. Sango's face had been thoughtful, while Miroku's was surprised. Inuyasha's was angry, as Shippo's was content.

The door to the second room was opened by Sakimi, leading to the second room. “Please enter, I would like you all to know how the first trial is done, and after this, I will tell you who passed and what your scores were.” Kagome almost giggled at the familiarity with those words, it pretty much sounded like an exam back home. With a sigh, Kagome walked towards the door, but was grabbed by Inuyasha.

“Don't worry, we can trust them.” Inuyasha had a skeptical look, but was forced through the door by the others.

The hooded figure stood at the far wall, while the others lined up instinctively in front of her. She looked down the line and began to speak. “Only two of you passed, and you will have to take the test again, but in a few weeks. The two that passed will be individually challenged in the next couple of weeks as well. There is a total of four trials, and I suggest you pass them all, so they will stop bugging you, because, no matter what, the trials will continue to try you. Those of you who didn't pass, which was everyone except for Kagome and Shippo, I recommend you think over your lives.

Now, since I asked you those questions, you have a right to ask me the same, and to prove I do not cheat my way out…” The purple dust from before shrouded the room, but only around the hooded figure, and they noticed it was Sakimi who controlled this. After the dust disappeared, Miroku took the initiative to ask the questions.

“Now we will finally know who you are!” Inuyasha shouted triumphantly.

“That is the difference in our answers.” Inuyasha got a confused look and Sakimi told him, “Just wait.”

Miroku asked the first question, causing the hooded figure to go into an explanation that surprised all the people in the room, even Sakimi. “What is your greatest fear?”

“My greatest fear is to be protected and, or to be too powerful. If I am too powerful, I will rise above others, and not have any control. If I am protected, people will get hurt because of me. If I am protected, I will be excluded, if I am excluded, I will not be knowledgeable, if I am not knowledgeable, I will not be able to protect myself, if I cannot protect myself or control my power, I will separate myself from those I love, if I separate myself from those I love, I will be afraid and alone. So my greatest fear…is fear itself.”

The room was silent, it seems that even Sakimi never heard the other woman's answers, so she herself asked the next question, “What is your deepest fear?”

“My deepest fear is to love.”

Kagome asked the next question, “Who do you love?”

“I love those that are willing to be loved by me, I can trust, and make me feel like myself.”

Sango asked, “What do you love?”

“I love everything, until given a reason not to.”

Inuyasha asked the next question with spite in his voice, “What do you hate?”

The hooded figure closed her eyes, “I hate to hate.” Inuyasha snorted at this response, but was cut off by Miroku.

“What is your purpose in life?”

“My purpose in life is to fulfill my destiny, do what fate intends, but at my own will.”

“What have you lost?” Kagome said with sadness growing with every answer. This woman seemed to know these answers, and they were so general.

“I have lost the life I could have had, if I had not been born as I am. I have lost a life of normality, and peace, but I would gain it for the world.”
Sango asked, “What do you wish to gain?”

“I wish to gain trust, to have them depend on me, and if I cannot protect them, I wish to gain forgiveness.”

Miroku said, “What do you protect?”

“I protect my responsibilities, my beliefs, my love, the things and people I love. I protect whatever is in my power to protect.”

Shippo said, “Well, what protects you?”

“…I am protected by those who feel obligated, by those who love me, and by my own desires.”

Inuyasha was angry at this woman for whatever reason and before anyone else could, yelled, “Who are you?!” The woman smiled.

“I am who I was born to be and my enemies know me as…The Acumen Eyes.”(say Acumen and eyes as one word, kinda like Acumnies…) Inuyasha growled in frustration, but didn't get the chance to express these feeling, because the two women vanished in a blinding blue and pink light.

Okay then, that's that chapter! Do you think I had the characters answer well? I don't know, but that was the point of this chapter, the answers, the hooded woman, and the “first trial”, yippee!!! R&R!!!
