Chapter 17
The Enemy Within
“Kanna! Come here.” The smooth, cold voice of Naraku bellowed out. Before his echo had completely faded out from the empty halls of the palace, the small pale child stepped into the room, her mirror clutched tightly in her small hands.
She did not speak, merely glanced up at the evil hanyou in anticipation of his demands. As usual she wore an emotionless expression upon her blindingly pale face. She knew what Naraku wanted. He wanted to witness first hand his latest ploy to tear Inuyasha away from his group had worked. She waited silently, her stoic expression remaining despite the thoughts of the revenge she was wishing on her master. She was secretly hoping that his plan wouldn’t work, and that the group would be on their way to come slaughter the vile creature before her so that she may have some peace, but she held little hope.
“Kanna, show me Inuyasha and Kikyo.”
Struggling not to sigh, Kanna held her mirror up for Naraku, allowing him to gaze upon the picture. Inside the mirror was Kikyo, Inuyasha and the human that was now another of Naraku’s pawns. The poor human could now be possessed by Naraku whenever the hanyou chose, and was now suffering the aftermath of his latest possession.
Kanna had been forced to stand guard over Naraku’s body, while his soul had traveled to Enraku’s. During his brief stay in the human’s body, Naraku had managed to convince Kikyo to marry the human boy, and mate with Inuyasha, telling her that now she could have the best of both worlds, and two men to love her. It took more convincing then Naraku had originally thought. What had sealed the deal was when he explained how upset her reincarnation would become upon learning that two males who had previously been attracted to her were now bond to Kikyo. Once the words were out of his mouth, Kikyo practically ran to the nearest village with Enraku and begged the priest there to marry them.
Now that the boy was no longer under Naraku’s possession, he was completely lost. He was now pretending to understand why he was now married to the walking dead, and why he was sharing her with Inuyasha.
--------------------
Inside the mirror the trio were laying together, apparently resting after another bout of rutting. They were all completely naked, Kikyo sandwiched in between the two males. They were panting, trying to catch their breath after such a vigorous workout.
“So Inuyasha, don’t you feel better now that my copy is now gone? Now you can be with me whenever you want, without worrying.” The undead miko smiled happily at her mate, her face lowering to nuzzled into his chest. The hanyou wrapped his arms around her with a contented sigh.
“Feh...like I care what that bitch thinks anyway.” Inuyasha glared at Enraku as he tried to snuggle into Kikyo, the blank expression on his face revealing nothing about his confusion. “Why don’t you leave us alone for a while?”
Enraku blinked, lifting a brow to stare up at Inuyasha questioningly. “She is my wife too, you know. Why should I leave her alone with you, when you won’t leave her alone with me?”
The two slowly pried away from Kikyo and leapt to their feet, completely oblivious to the fact that they were both completely naked. Inuyasha growled at the human, his eyes narrowing into a heated glare. “Leave you alone with her? How are you going to protect her, human? You can’t even protect yourself.”
Snickering, Enraku inched in closer to the hanyou. “Really? From what I’ve heard, you don’t do that well protecting her either. How many times has she been attacked while you were off running around?”
Inuyasha’s growl grew louder, his hands balling into fists. “Well if I wouldn’t have had that weak ass imitation to follow around, I would have been there to protect her.”
Nodding, Enraku smirked. “True, I forgot about Kagome.”
“Oi...don’t say that bitch’s name. She’s gone, and good riddance.”
Enraku’s brow creased into a thoughtful scowl. He really had no problems with Kagome. Come to think of it, he still wasn’t even sure why he was with the two he was with now. He remembered following them around to find Kagome, but then something weird happened. It was like he was trapped inside of himself, while something else was controlling what he did. He remembered convincing Kikyo to marry him, and then sleeping with her a few times, then when they had the confrontation with Kagome, he felt his control come back to him. He wasn’t sure if he was just really tired, or if he was going insane. It didn’t matter though, because now he was married to Kikyo, and Kagome would probably never speak to him again, so he might as well stay where he was, even if he didn’t understand it.
Kikyo finally got off the ground announcing that she was going to get dressed. Following suit, the two males picked up their scattered clothing and began to get dressed themselves.
---------------------------------------
Narak u smirked at the trio in the mirror, his mind racing with ideas. He was trying to find a way to have Inuyasha kill the human, hoping that Kikyo would kill the hanyou in anger, leaving the undead miko completely alone and vulnerable.
Once Kikyo was alone, he would then snatch her up. Now that she had been defiled, he was certain he would have no problems ridding the world of the walking abomination. With the trio out of the way, that left only the miko, exterminator and houshi to deal with.
He was still trying to come up with a way to split up the little group, but the humans seemed devoted to each other. He would soon find a way to break them up, and then once they were each on their own, he would kill them one by one. The only problem with his plan now was the involvement of the Taiyoukai. He had not counted on Sesshomaru and the miko becoming so friendly. He would have to devise a plan to terminate their friendship, and hopefully rid himself of the miko in the process as well.
Closing his eyes, he waved a hand at Kanna. “I’m done, you may go. Make sure I am not disturbed.”
Without a word Kanna exited the room, glad to finally be free of Naraku’s presence. She knew what he was planning, and knew that he would get his way if something didn’t tip off the unsuspecting victims of his plot. The emotionless child moved down the hallway, wondering if there was a way for the small alliance to survive.
Coming to a stop at her resting place, Kanna leaned against the wall, her mirror still clutched in her hands. She didn’t understand why Naraku was so focused on killing Kikyo, when the undead miko was the one he should be worrying about. She had been near both the undead and the young mikos, and found that the undead woman was severely lacking compared to the younger version.
Pushing her thoughts out of her mind, she decided to rest. She knew that Naraku would soon be going back to take possession of Enraku’s body, and she would have to stand guard over him when he did. Allowing the lids to slide slowly over her eyes, Kanna relaxed the best she could, wondering when her life of slavery would come to an end and she would finally have peace.
I know, short chapter, sorry. This is just an explanation chapter, so there wasn’t much that could be said. The next chapter goes back to Sesshomaru and Kagome.
