Choosing your path: An Inu-Yasha tale
Chapter two: Fight for your life!
The hybrid youkai and the demon slayer stood, both with weapons out as they faced down Naraku. It was in both of their minds that this was more than likely a youkai puppet again, but, neither would take that chance. "Naraku, I must thank you for showing yourself..." Inu-Yasha said smirking. "Because when I kill you, and take all your Shikon jewel shards, our quest will almost be over. And now, I'm going to avenge Kikyou after all these years!!!!!" Inu-Yasha screamed and leapt forward, slashing Naraku in half with Tetsusaiga, and, just as both had expected, just the baboon cloak fell.
"You remain a fool, hybrid. You know of the jewel, so you should know it is evil, and still you seek it. It will kill you...but, so it doesn't, I'll kill you first, then hunt down the girl with the other shards..." Naraku's voice echoed. "The jewel only brings death, see?"
"You bastard, I'm done talking!! Face me now!" Inu-Yasha screamed, holding Tetsusaiga tightly in his hand in wait. "Come on out, you baboon!"
"I think this will be more than a challenge for you, Inu-Yasha. Die." the voice once more echoed and out of nowhere came a lion with towered over Inu-Yasha, and, barely visible in it's forehead lay not just one shard, but seven! The most shards ever in just one beast Inu-Yasha had faced.
"Damn it! I don't have time for your stupid youkai!" Inu-Yasha yelled and leapt once more into the air, Tetsusaiga at his side as he slashed at the beast with his left hand. "Iron reaver soul stealer!!!!!" Inu-Yasha yelled, but his attack was worthless. The beast had just too many shards of the jewel to feel the attack of the hybrid youkai.
"Inu-Yasha, we must be careful, it has seven shards in it's head!!" Sango yelled. Pulling her boomerang from her back she threw it forward and aimed for the demon's forehead, hoping to knock the shards from it's head, but, to no avail. "NANI!?!?!" she yelled in confusion. "I can't believe how strong this thing is...my attack did nothing to it. That should have torn half it's head off it's shoulders!" she said as she retrieved her boomerang.
"To Hell with this, you're going down youkai!" Inu-Yasha yelled as he leapt, holding the golden glowing blade, Tetsusaiga and slashed at the right front leg of the beast. Finally, some damage, as well, as Inu-Yasha's attack took the leg right off. Smirking some, Inu-Yasha held Tetsusaiga tighter and once more leapt upward and tried to slash the head right off the beast's shoulders, but was knocked backwards as the beast then charged Sango. "Damn it..."
The beast quickly knocked Sango over, slashing her stomach, causing the slayer to scream loudly in pain. "Inu-Yasha...help...!" she pleaded weakly, the creature constantly trying to slash at her, and, Sango soon found out the beast had poisonous claws, which wasn't going to help out too much in the long run.
"S-Sango..! I'm coming!" Inu-Yasha yelled, and, without hesitation leapt onto the creature's back and slammed the Tetsusaiga into it's neck, then slashed across in both directions, severing the head. As if a shadow, though, the beast totally faded from view, and Inu-Yasha landed on his bare feet right next to the injured demon slayer. "Sango, you okay?" he questioned as he saw her injury. Three slashes across her stomach, and she was bleeding quite a bit.
"I'm okay, Inu-Yasha..." she said, smiling weakly, but with that small sentence spoken she passed out, and was still losing blood fast.
Inu-Yasha picked the girl up in his arms, then began looking around the forest they were residing in. He knew enough about healing herbs and roots from Kikyou that he'd be able to tend to Sango, but he knew he had to hurry. Quickly he spotted a purple weed with a green stem and pulled it out. Then the youkai swordsman applied the herbs to the three cuts and looked down to Sango, who he had laid against a tree. "You should be okay...but it's getting cold, can't let you freeze.." he said, removing his red kimono and wrapping it around his friend. "Shit...the jewel shards.." he muttered and quickly ran back and pulled the seven shards from the ground where they had landed. "Okay... there we go." he said, placing the seven shards into his pocket.
"Inu-Yasha....?" Sango's voice weakly called.
"Yeah?"
"We should... get back to the others..."
"You're in no condition to walk. You rest, we'll meet up with them in the morning. Just sleep, and I'll watch you, the sun's going to set very soon." and as Inu-Yasha said that he remembered the day. 'The new moon...' he thought. He'd be human soon. He could still protect both of them, though. He was strong enough as a human to manage one night protecting Sango as she healed. And as he was about to tell her morning would be here before she realized, Inu-Yasha saw she was already sound asleep.
*Kagome and the others' location.*
"It's the new moon tonight..." Miroku said as the three traveled, Kagome in lead since she was the only one who'd be able to sense Inu-Yasha.
"It is!?!?!" Kagome yelled in shock. "Oh no, we have to hurry, Inu-Yasha could be in great danger!" and without explaining why, Kagome took off in a quick dash, trying to head toward Inu-Yasha as quickly as she could.
"What's wrong with her!?" Miroku asked as he ran, Shippo quickly catching up to him.
"Inu-Yasha's human tonight!" the kitsune explained.
"He becomes human on the new moon?" the monk asked perplexed.
"You really don't know much about youkais, do you!?!" Shippo questioned as he ran in front of Miroku and tried to keep up with Kagome.
"I suppose I don't.." Miroku said, running faster.
*Inu-Yasha and Sango's location*
Inu-Yasha watched as the sun set on his location, leaning against the same tree that Sango lay next to as he became his human counterpart instantly. His silver hair became black, his golden eyes brown, and his dog ears faded and human ones formed. He was now full human. "Shimatta." Inu-Yasha grumbled. "That's fine, Sango's asleep, and no youkai are around, I could probably take in some sleep too. "Still, if youkai do appear, my techniques and Tetsusaiga are all worthless..." he muttered. "I'll just take a short nap..." he said, closing his eyes and quickly falling asleep.
"Inuuuuu-Yaaaassshhhhaaa....." a cold voice echoed through the forest as Inu-Yasha opened his eyes.
He found himself a bit perplexed. But, he knew that voice. "Kikyou...?" he questioned in shock.
"Yes, Inu-Yasha.." she said, showing herself to Inu-Yasha. "I came here to talk to you..."
"You ought to be dead, though." Inu-Yasha said softly.
"I am, and the one who had my form, the one who took souls, wasn't me. You know that, right, Inu-Yasha...?" she asked, staring downward, as if ashamed for the other Kikyou's actions.
"I know, Kikyou...but, why have you come to see me?"
"To ask you something. Do you still feel the same for me, even after all the hardships we've both had to go through?" Kikyou asked in a broken voice.
"Of course, I'll always love you, Kikyou..." Inu-Yasha said, closing the distance between the two. "No matter if you are gone, I'll always love you more than anything on this planet."
"And I'll always love you, Inu-Yasha...but you have to move on.." Kikyou said.
"I can't. You're my strength... You always have been." Inu-Yasha said, small tears forming at the corners of his brown eyes.
"No, someone else gives you strength now, Inu-Yasha, so protect her. She's your power.." Kikyou said, smiling sadly. "This is my goodbye to you, my only love." and with that last sentence, Kikyou leaned forward and kissed Inu-Yasha's lips softly, which he quickly returned, both of them having tears fall down their cheeks. "Goodbye, Inu-Yasha."
"Goodbye, Kikyou...I'll find the one who gives me strength." Inu-Yasha said.
Kikyou nodded. "She's closer than you think, Inu-Yasha-sama. Now, wake up."
Inu-Yasha found his eyes opening, and the sun shining before him. Blinking, he looked to his hands and saw his claws were back, and knew he was back to his youkai form. "Are you awake yet, Sango?" Inu-Yasha asked softly.
"Yes..barely..*yawn*" Sango said, sitting up. "Thanks..for helping me.
"Yeah." was all Inu-Yasha said. "Good morning."
"G'morning." Sango said back, then noticed Inu-Yasha sniffing the air. "Smell something?"
"Kagome and the others." Inu-Yasha couldn't mistake Kagome's scent. It was so sweeet..even more so than Kikyou's was. 'Maybe Kagome really is the one who gives me strength. But...that means I was right. I..I do love her..' he thought to himself. 'I feel weird...I've never thought I'd love another human, let alone Kagome. But...maybe my dream was right...' breaking from thought, Inu-Yasha sighed. "Well, let's go catch up with them."
Sango nodded and the two began walking, Inu-Yasha literally following his nose to Kagome, and the five travelers quickly met up with one another once more. "Inu-Yasha, you jerk...you had me really worried!" Kagome yelled, hitting her hands as hard as she could against the youkai's chest. "Don't go running off again...I'm sorry, okay?" she said, and tears were falling down her cheeks, just like when Inu-Yasha had last seen Kagome.Inu-Yasha moved his arms around Kagome's small frame and hugged her close to him, quickly causing the young girl to blush, just as she did the first time Inu-Yasha had done this. "You're.. not going to push me down the well again, are you..?" she asked, thinking of breaking from the embrace.
"No..." Inu-Yasha said. "And I'm sorry about before too..." he said, smiling weakly.
'Wow...Inu-Yasha not only hugged me, he apologized, AND hugged me.' Kagome thought to herself. "Are you...sick, Inu-Yasha?" she asked, blinking innocently. "You're never this nice to me.."
"I'm fine, Kagome. Oh.. here" he said, taking the seven shards from his pocket. "Keep these with you."
"Seven more shards!? Guess you guys had more trouble than we did out there last night, huh?" Kagome questioned.
"Nothing me and Sango weren't able to handle. Sango, can I have my Kimono back?" Inu-Yasha asked, and the slayer tossed it over. "As you see, Sango got a little beat up, but, we're both fine now, so let's head back on our quest." Inu-Yasha said, breaking his embrace with Kagome and beginning once more to lead the way.
'Inu-Yasha's acting totally different...he's being so sweet...and...why's my heart pounding..?' Kagome wondered to herself, feeling a strong blush on her cheeks.
"Maybe Inu-Yasha will finally tell Kagome how he feels.." Miroku said as the five walked.
"Shut up, lecher!" Inu-Yasha yelled, turning around and punching Miroku in the gut, which quickly dropped the monk to his knees.
"Inu-Yasha..." Kagome said, shaking her head. "Sit."
Inu-Yasha fell over and sighed. "Fine... next time I won't hurt him that badly..." He mumbled and stood up again. "Come on, let's get going." And with that, the five walked off again, planning on finding more of the shards, but now both Inu-Yasha and Kagome were confused by their own feelings for one another. Something that could be used against them if Naraku found out about it. But, Inu-Yasha and Kagome don't know how they feel, so for now, at least, they're fine.
