Chapter 8

Coming Full Circle: InuYasha and Kagome

Kagome crouched, naked, by the side of the well in her own time. No matter how she tried, she could not stop crying. It seemed that her attempts to ease her aching heart by having sex with Kouga and then Miroku, had only left her feeling more desolate in the end. Everything was such a mess, she didn't know if she ever wanted to return to the Feudal era. Shikon jewel be damned, let InuYasha hunt for them with Kikyo. At the thought of InuYasha and Kikyo, her heart that she thought had reached its limit of pain, felt like it was burning in her chest. With a hoarse scream of excruciating pain, she fell over and started wildly sobbing again. So lost was she to her misery she did not notice that she suddenly was not alone.

InuYasha had leaped out of the well as she had screamed and fell over. He stood next to her, shaken to the core by the state she was in. And worst of all, he knew that he was the cause of it. He groaned, his head in his hand, and slid down the side of the well until he was sitting next to her. The edge of his hoari brushed against her naked feet, and she was startled out of her despair. She looked up to see him sitting there, his head still in his hand and his long hair shrouding his face. Angrily she sat up.

“What are you doing here?” she cried.

He turned to look at her, and she saw his expressive eyes were filled with remorse, despair and pain. But seeing his suffering did not comfort her, it only made her feel worse.

“Why don't you go back to Kikyo and leave me alone!” She wailed, and tried weakly to push him away.

“Kagome, please listen to me,” he said, “I know saying sorry is not good enough to erase what I did, but for what it's worth I'm done with Kikyo.”

“How can I believe you?” she said, “How can I ever trust you again?”

He moaned and brought both hands to his face, and Kagomes eyes went wide. She saw he was clutching the red teddy in one hand. The fabric reached his sensitive nose, and he recoiled a moment. There were those smells on this piece of clothing…Kagome and…His eyes wide in shock he smelled not one but two other males scents mixed in with her sex smell. Kagome swallowed hard as she watched him take a deeper sniff of the garment. Then he turned to her, nostrils flaring and eyes blazing. She cringed as he bent down and sniffed her.

“Kagome…” he drawled his voice low and dangerous. “What's going on? Why are you sitting here naked? What have you been doing?”

She started to cry again.

He grabbed her wrist, and pulled her off the ground.

“Why do I smell Kouga and Miroku all over you and this piece of clothing!!” He roared in her face.

“How dare you judge me you two-timer!” she yelled back at him and gripped the front of his hoari, shaking it. “It's all your fault! You started it when you betrayed me with Kikyo!”

Something small and round fell out of his hoari, momentarily distracting them. They watched it roll on the ground, and then Kagome recognized it as a piece of Sangos armor. He took a short, sharp gasp of breath. She reached over and picked it up.

“What is a piece of Sangos armor doing in your clothes?”

He groaned and put his head down on his folded arms. Kagomes mind was spinning as she tried to put things together. Miroku and Sango had a fight…Sango broke up with Miroku and stormed off into the forest. InuYasha was in the forest…NO!

“You dare to roar at me like that when you have been screwing Kikyo and now Sango!” She said and started beating him with her fists. “I ought to say it so many times you'll wake up in hell!”

Suddenly she stopped. InuYashas shoulders were shaking. In amazement she realized her big, bad, macho hanyou who never cried…was crying. She flinched back as he gave a huge heartbreaking sob. This was a turn of events she never could have imagined. Instinctively she reached out to comfort him.

He gripped her proffered hand and pulled her into a tight embrace.

“Please Kagome,” he gasped through his sobs, “I don't want to live with out you. Don't tell me it's over for good between us.”

She closed her eyes, and the tears started falling, but she wasn't sobbing anymore. Being this close to him again brought up feelings she had been trying to deny, trying to suppress all this time. It was devastating to her that despite all he had done, she still loved him, as deeply and passionately as she ever did. He had damaged her, and she didn't know if she would ever be the same again. But in her heart, she belonged to him and always would.

She put her arms around him and he buried his face in her breasts, his tears sliding down their curves.

“I'm such a weak and foolish woman to take you back,” she said, “but I still love you. No one, not Kouga, not Miroku, not anyone could ever take your place in my heart.”

He looked up at her, and a glimmer of hope came to his tear filled eyes.

“You have damaged me though,” she said, stroking his head, “I don't know if things will ever be the way they were before.”

“I understand,” he said, “I have no one to blame but myself. But if you give me this second chance, I will do my best to make it up to you.”

“Okay,” she said with a weary sigh, “but don't have any expectations of me. I'm not the same woman who came through the well this morning. She's gone, and you will have to deal with what I am now.”

“I know I must earn your trust again,” he said, “But I'm up for the challenge.”

They embraced each other tightly and were silent. They stayed that way for quite a long time.

A/N: There will be an epilogue, but don't expect a totally happy ending. This story explores the themes of betrayal, desperation, despair and love. The feelings in this story are supposed to be true to life. I drew from my own experiences, which are like Kagomes but I did not get my lover back, to write this story.
