A/N: I'm so bad at updating. I was going to update a century ago but I've been busy and this is my longest chapter so far so it took a while to write.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha
“Come on,” Kouga said as he walked toward the door. “Let's get you dressed up.” Sango sighed she didn't want to do this but she couldn't see any other choices. She got up slowly and Kouga began to guide her out of the police station. They past by the officer from earlier, he had returned to his desk. He looked over at Kouga when he and Sango passed. “Taking Miss Yamamote to see Ayame?” He asked.
“Yep.” Kouga said still leading Sango out of the building. He took her to the parking lot next to the station and directed her toward a silver Toyota. “It's better that we take my car rather than one of the police cursers we can be more discreet this way.” Kouga explained. Sango just hopped in the passenger's seat. Kouga jumped in on the other side and soon they were off.
They drove silently. Kouga didn't even have the radio turned on. Sango wished that there was at least some noise to distract her though. She'd had enough of being alone with her thoughts at the hospital. After a few minutes the silence became too much for Sango. “So who's Ayame?” She asked.
“She's head of our undercover. Comes up with our disguises and stuff like that.” Kouga explained.
“So that's whose going to turn me into a boy?” Sango asked.
“No, I just told the old bag that's where we're going so he wouldn't complain.”
“What?” Sango said surprised.
“Ayame's a nice girl and everything but this sort of thing isn't really in her field of expertise. I'm taken you to someone much more experienced in what we're dealing with.” Kouga said coolly.
“Okay…but why would your boss complain about this other guy?” Sango asked a little concerned.
“Well he thinks the idea of a professional cosplayer is ridiculous, doesn't take it seriously.”
“You're taking me too a professional cosplayer?!” Sango said really worried now. Kouga just gave a nod he didn't feel like talking much after that. He could see Sango seemed to have the same option as his boss, which wasn't really untrue. A few of Sango's friends had been some pretty extreme anime fans and they had told her about some very eccentric cosplayers so she didn't think she could take Kouga's idea very seriously either.
The rest of the ride went by very quickly and before Sango knew she was standing outside some strange apartment while Kouga knocked the apartment's door. It wasn't long before the door was opened half way by from what Sango could see looked like a very tall and pretty woman wearing a long pink kimono. “Kouga you know you're not my type but if you keep showing up in that sexy uniform I may change my mind.” The person behind the door said suggestively.
Kouga let out a snort as he rolled his eyes “Knock it off Jankotsu, I need you to be serious I came on business.”
Jankotsu let out a disappointed sigh and open the door all the way for them to come in. Now that the door was completely opened Sango got a much better view of Jankotsu. It was then she realized that Jankotsu wasn't a woman. At a glance you wouldn't have been able to tell since his face was very famine accentuated by his long black hair which he had up in a bun, and then there was the fact he was wearing a woman's Kimono as well as the softness of his voice but when you could take in the whole picture you noticed his strong arms, flat chest, and Adam's apple which gave way to the definite conclusion that he was a man.
Sango realized that she had been staring for quiet some time and while her attention had been focused on Jankotsu, Kouga had stepped inside the apartment where as she had stood still out in the hall. This was probably why the two of them were now giving her strange looks. Sango turned her head away embarrassed as she stepped inside Jankotsu's apartment. Once she was inside Kouga closed the door behind her.
“So is this the girl you want me to make one of us guys?” Jankotsu said which seemed almost laughable coming from him. Sango wasn't much in the mood for laughter however. She had been given some hope that Kouga's insane idea would work after she'd seen how Jankotsu had nearly been able to fool her into believing he was a woman but she was still very uneasy about the whole plan.
“Yea, can you do it?” Kouga asked.
“Of course” Jankotsu scoffed. He then looked Sango over appraisingly deciding where to start. After a few moments of thought he spoke again “Well if I'm going to make you look like a boy I'll have to try and get ride of some of the more feminine things about you. So the first thing I'll need to do is cut your hair.” He said to Sango.
“No.” Was Sango's stern and almost immediate response, Sango was not vain but one of the few things she like about her appearance was her hair. She'd taken ages to grow it and wasn't about to throw it away for some idiotic plan. Jankotsu and Kouga looked surprised for a second by Sango' strong reaction but shortly got over it. “Don't be stubborn about this if people are going to buy you're a boy I'll need to cut your hair.” Jankotsu said.
“Why? You and Kouga both have long hair.” Sango retorted.
“And you don't think my long hair makes me look feminine?” Jankotsu asked in a tone that made it hard for Sango tell whether he was asking to prove a point or if he was genuinely wondering.
“Well it does.” Sango said whether it was intentionally or not Jankotsu had made a point, “But with Kouga it doesn't.”
“That's different Kouga's actually a boy. While with Kouga his long hair makes him look somewhat wild your long hair is only accentuating your feminine features and right now those are exactly what we want to down play.” Jankotsu said.
“Fine then I'll hide it in a hat or something but I'm not cutting my hair.” Sango said.
“You can't wear a hat you know they're against the dress code in schools. So your only other option would be a wig and they never look all that real and you couldn't be wearing it all the time. The only solution that works is for you to cut your hair. So stop being such a brat about it.” Jankotsu said looking a little angry.
Sango could see she was fighting a losing battle. She reached up and ran her hand through her long smooth hair one more time. “Fine.” Sango said with a sigh. After Sango agreed Jankotsu looked very pleased at having just one the fight. Kouga had been rather uninterested in the whole argument and now that they were finished he had something to say. “Well Jankotsu why don't you getting going while I go use your bathroom.” Kouga said and with that he walked off to take care of his business.
So Jankotsus did get going. He walked over into the kitchen area of his apartment and motioned for Sango to sit on one of the bar stools by the island. He left and got some scissors while Sango hesitantly sat down on the stool. It wasn't long before Jankotsu had retrieved his scissors and was ready to get work on Sango's hair. He could see she was nervous about it. “Don't worry I'm not going to cut it very short.” He said has he begun to comb out her long hair.
Once Sango heard the first clip of the scissors her nervousness increased dramatically. She tried to distract herself as best she could by thinking about something else. For some reason her mind wandered to why Kouga and Jankotsu were friends. They didn't strike her at all as the types who would normally hang together. She was curious as to how they had even met. She wasn't normally very nosey but Sango decided to ask. “How do you know Kouga?”
“Hmmmm… well we meet at an anime convention.” Was Jankotsu's answer which Sango was visibly surprised to hear but Jankotsu didn't need to see her face to know that. “I know he doesn't come across as the type that would go to an anime convention.” Jankotsu continued, “That's because he isn't. He was there undercover following a suspect who was attending it. His cover wasn't very good though. The police department sent him there in a blue wet suit and some fairy wings.” Sango and Jankotsu both had to laugh at the image.
“Anyway he looked so ridiculous I had to ask what he was. He claimed he was a Poka-mon. His horrible pronunciation alone told me he had no idea what he was doing there. So I managed to convince him to tell me why he there since he obviously had no interest in anime. After he told me I got him some fangs, gloves, and a few other items and we passed him off as a digimon the rest of the day.” Jankotsu finished. Moments later Kouga came back from the bathroom which to Kouga's surprise sent Sango and Kouga into a loud burst of laughter.
Jankotsu finished up Sango hair a few minutes later. “Alright all done.” He said stepping back to admire his handy work. “I'm jealous I wish my hair was as smooth as yours.” Jankotsu said with a pout. Sango smiled at his face setting aside her anger at Jankotsu from their fight earlier she was really starting to like him.
“Great! What's next?” Kouga asked. Jankotsu thought for a second then went over to his couch and grabbed a shopping bag and first aide kit. He walked back over to Sango and handed them to her. “I ordered your uniform. It's a size big so it will be baggy and not show your figure that much. Of course there's only so much it can hide though so you'll need to bind your chest. That's what the first aide kit is for there's sports tap in there you should use it and bandages to tape your breasts to the sides. Since you can't completely flatten your chest and trying is much more painful then just pulling them down to the sides. Plus it'll help to make your chest look broader.”
Sango didn't care to ask why Jankotsu knew so much about binding ones chest. She was curious about one thing however. “How'd you know what size I was?' Sango asked.
“Kouga gave me your height and weight and I figured it out from there.” Jankotsu replied. Sango looked over at Kouga wondering how he'd gotten her height and weight and as if reading her mind he told her. “You answered it in one of the numerous forms you had to fill out after the shooting.” He said.
“Ooh” was Sango's intelligent response. “Why don't you change now so I can have an idea if I need to adjust anything.” Jankotsu said pointing her in the direction of the bathroom Kouga had been in earlier. Sango quickly went to do just that.
In the mirror Sango got her first look at her new hair. It was about three inches long now maybe a little longer. It didn't look bad but Sango missed her long hair. `I should have put up more of a fight.' Sango thought with a sigh and began to change clothes and bind her chest. Once she'd finished Sango discovered that although Jankotsu's method was supposed to be less painful binding your chest was still very uncomfortable. After much effort she managed to get her chest almost completely flat. Looking in the mirror she hardly recognized herself. She hardly looked like the girl who'd first walked into Jankotsu's apartment.
When Jankotsu saw Sango he couldn't help beam at his job well done. “Nice work Jankotsu you really pulled it off.” Kouga said.
“Told you I would.” Jankotsu replied. “Anyway we're not quite done yet. I picked out a couple outfits you can wear on the weekends.” He said handing Sango another shopping bag. Sango opened it up and looked through it a little. She saw a small box down the bottom that she pulled out. “Tissues?” She said holding out the box.
“Actually the tissues are just to hide the feminine products I put underneath.” Jankotsu said matter of factly. Sango and Kouga both looked away a little embarrassed at that statement. Both however couldn't help but think it was a clever idea. “If you need to get any more clothes buy dark baggy ones. You shouldn't wear any makeup but it doesn't look your wear much anyways.” Jankotsu said as Sango nodded in understanding. “Well I'd say you're all set then and ready to face the world as a man.” Jankotsu said.
“If that's the case we should get going.” Kouga told them.
With that the three of the headed toward the door. “See ya Jankotsu!” said Kouga as he began to leave. Jankotsu opened the door for them and waved as the two headed down the hall out of his sight. “See ya Kouga! Good luck Sango. I'm sure after the job I've done you'll turn all the boys gay… well they'll be straight…but they'll think their gay.” Jankotsu cried down the hall from his doorway.
“Bye Jankotsu” Sango cried as she and Kouga left his apartment building.
After leaving Jankotsu's Kouga took Sango to make a quick stop at her house so she could get what she need for the next few months she'd be spending at school. Kouga told her to make it fast and she had no problem complying. Sango didn't want to dwell in that house for to long. The second she stepped through the door into her home she was overwhelmed with memories. She could almost see the ghosts of her father and brother as she pasted by their rooms on the way to her own.
She took whatever she could from her closet that might pass as a boy's a few baggy pants and some sweat shirts was what she manage to come up. She grabbed her tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, and etcetera then threw everything in a nap sac along with the things Jankotsu had given her. Kouga had told her not to bring any personal items but she spotted a photo of her and Kohaku on her vanity and couldn't help herself. It had always been one of her favorite pictures because Kohaku's smile lit up his whole face. This was not something you usually saw in pictures of him since he'd always make a ridiculous face if he knew you were taking a picture of him. Sango gave a bittersweet smile as she tucked it away at the bottom of her nap sac.
After that Sango dashed back to Kouga's car and he started driving her to her new school and home for quite possibly the rest of the school year that is of course assuming she didn't get caught as a cross-dresser. They dove for nearly an hour before reaching the school. Kouga parked directly in front of the main school building. From out the car window Sango could see two of the dormitories just a block away from the school.
“Sango” Kouga said bringing her attention to him. “You should go into the school and check in with the principal okay?” Kouga said handing her the ID he's shown her earlier.
Sango nodded as she took the ID from him. “He'll tell you what to do from there.”
“Alright” Sango said.
“I'm sure I don't need to remind you that you can't let on to anyone you're really a girl. If you do it could mean big trouble for both of us.” Kouga said.
“Got it.”
“Do you have any questions?” Kouga asked.
“Just one, can I borrow your cell phone?” Sango asked.
“Huh? What do you need that for?” Kouga wondered.
“I need to call Kagome. She has no idea I'm in this witness protection thing and will be worried sick if she goes looking for me and discovers I'm nowhere to be found.” Sango said.
“I'm sorry Sango but you can't contact your friend. It could be putting her and you in danger.” Kouga said.
“But-”
“NO!” Kouga said firmly. Sango could see that there was no arguing with Kouga. It didn't seem like there ever was. So she just sat back in her seat crosses her arms and began to sulk. It was very childish and uncharacteristic of her but with all she was going through she didn't feel at all like acting like a grown up. Kouga could see her frustration and struggled to think of a solution that might make her a little but happier. “I guess if you gave me your friend's phone number I could call her myself later today and tell her you're okay.” Kouga said.
Sango agreed. She had wanted to speak to Kagome herself since she was about enter a whole knew school full of strangers and didn't know when she'd next see a friendly face. All she wanted was the small comfort of hearing her best friend's voice but she knew what Kouga said was right and she didn't want to put Kagome in any danger. She scribbled down on a piece of paper Kagome's number and handed it to Kouga. He put it in his pocket and turned back toward Sango.
“Well that's it then. I leave you here for now, but I'll contact you in about a week.” Kouga said.
“Right.” Sango said. She grabbed her bag and exited the car. Then she turned around to close the door. “Good luck!” Kouga said. Sango smiled and said thanks as she finished closing the door. Then she stepped away from the car and Kouga drove off.
Once he was out of sight Sango gave a sigh. She was sad to see him go. It seemed silly since she'd only know him a few hours a lot of which he had irritated her. However he'd been friendly and sympathetic to her and now she was left here alone at a Tokyo all boys school with little idea of what to expect.
Sango turned to face the school, took a moment to work up her courage and headed inside to find the principal. He was probably one of the few people in the building since it was a Saturday. It didn't take her long to find him seeing as his office was clearly labeled `principal's office'. She knocked on the door and entered when she heard a voice from within the room call “Come in!”
When Sango stepped inside she saw a short man in his forties wearing oval shaped glasses writing at his desk. He smiled when he look up and saw Sango. “Ahh… you must be Mr. Watanabe!”
“Yes Sir.” Sango said. She hoped she didn't sound to girly. She hadn't bothered to try and disguise her voice because she thought she would only end up sounding ridiculous. “Well welcome to our school son!” He said not noticing anything about Sango's voice much to her relief. “Take a seat” he said motioning to the chair in front of him. Sango sat down placing her bag beside her. “We're glad to have you.” He continued. His cheeriness was creeping Sango out a little. “I'm sure you'll be a great student here. Especially if you follow all the rules. We're like most schools we don't allow anything out side the dress code in class, no vulgar language, fighting, drugs, and of course no girls allowed in the dorms!” He said. `Guess I'm going to have to break that last one.' Sango thought.
“Speaking of which I've got the key to your dorm room right here.” He said as he pulled it out of his desk. “Also here's your schedule.” Handing them both to her. “Don't lose that key your room mate has the only other one.”
“I see.” Sango said with a nod. “You'll begin classes tomorrow of course. Dinner is at seven; breakfast six in the morning, and lunch takes place at noon.”
“Okay.” Sango said.
“Now I suppose you'll want to put your things away your room is number 1210 the dormitory closest to here. Your roommate is Miroku Yoshida I'm sure he'll be happy to help you with any other questions you've got.” The principle finished and with that he returned to his work. Sango took that as her cue to leave. She picked up her bag and began to head toward the dorm she saw before in the car.
On her way to the dorm she passed by a boy her age flirting with a group of girls. The boy was leaning against a fence a few feet away from her dormitory and the girls were all huddled around him giggling loudly. Sango had to roll her eyes as she passed. She hated flirts and this guy had to be one of the biggest she'd ever seen. Another girl ran to join up with her friends and the flirt, but as she passed Sango she dropped a book she'd been carrying. Sango bent down and picked it up for her. The girl blushed and mumbled her thanks when Sango handed it back to her. Sango was about to continue on her way to the dorm but one of the girls called out “Hey Kazumi who's the cutie you're talking too?” She pointed at Sango while she said this bringing the attention of the other girls and the flirt to Sango.
Kazumi, the girl who'd dropped her book, shrugged. “I don't know.” She mumbled. Sango was hoping that would be the end of this conversation but the girl that asked who Sango was wasn't about to give up learning the answer to her question so she nudged the flirt, who was standing next to her, and asked “Well who is he?”
He barely glanced at Sango before replying “Sorry my dear but I have no idea.”
“What do you mean you have no idea? He's wearing your school's uniform so he must go to your school. How can you not know?” the girl asked seeming agitated.
“Well why would I be taking notice of other guys? Especially when there much lovelier figures like yours around to behold.” He said while putting his arm around the girl's waist, who no longer appeared upset after his response. Sango had to keep herself from rolling her eyes again.
“You probably don't know him because he's new.” One girl said to the flirt. “It looks like you're just moving in.” She then said to Sango while gesturing toward her bag.
“Yea, I just got here.” Sango told her. “Ooh so you don't have any friends?” Another girl asked.
“Yea” said Sango not needing to be reminded. “Don't worry I'm sure you'll have a bunch soon.” The girl said trying to reassure her.
“Sure!” Said a different girl, “And I bet you two will become fast friends,” she motioned to Sango and the flirt “You probably have a ton in common.”
“Doubt it I for one am not a deplorable flirt who ogles everything in a skirt.” Sango said under her breathe. Kazumi who was still standing only a couple feet away giggled when she heard her. Sango looked over surprised she had heard. She hadn't meant for anyone to hear but Kazumi must have dog hearing or something. The other girls who hadn't heard Sango asked what was said that was so funny.
“Ooh he just said `Doubt it I for one am not a deplorable flirt.'” Kazumi said making a funny voice to imitate Sango and giggling through most of her sentence. Soon the rest of the girls were in a fit of giggles as well. For a moment Sango saw the flirt give her an icy glare but he so quickly began laughing with the girls she almost thought she'd imagined it.
Once their laughing had settled the flirt said acting offended “But really I'm not that bad.” The girl beside him laughed and said “Yes you are!” And shortly they were all laughing again. It was then that Sango slipped away from them to find her dorm. They were all to busy laughing to see her leave.
Once she got inside the dormitory she found her room. It was in the middle of the hall on the second floor. After unlocking the door she stepped inside. It the right corner of the room was a bunk bed. There was a dresser in the middle of the room. There were two windows in front of one was a desk and there was another desk against the left wall. On the left wall there was also a door that Sango discovered lead to a bathroom. There was no sign of her roommate who appeared to keep the room pretty clean except for a mess of stuff on the bottom bunk.
Sango threw her bag on the top bunk and began to unpack. Her roommate had only left her the bottom two drawers of the dresser and taken the top four himself. It didn't matter though because she didn't have much for clothes anyway. After all her clothes were away she started to put some things away in the desk on the left. While she was doing this Sango heard the door open behind her so she turned around curious to see her roommate.
It didn't take her long to recognize him as the flirt and from the cold look he was giving her Sango knew he recognized her too. “So you're Sano Watanabe?”
AN: Well there you go chapter three! It's defiantly my favorite. I hope everyone liked it and that it was worth the wait.
