Chapter 3- The Vixen's name

Sesshomaru watched her sleeping form. She often turned in her unconscious state from either dreaming or trying to find a comfortable lying position. He stared at her from the corner of the room, her not being aware of his presence.

*A wind sorceress…like that incarnation of the hanyou, Naraku…Kagura was her name…* He thought, *but unlike Kagura…her scent is that of purity and not of miasma…and her eyes are those of a gentle creature…not like that of a bloodthirsty carnivore like those of Naraku's incarnations…*

It then dawned on the demon lord, *could it be that she, this vixen, be a threat to Naraku? No…not to Naraku…but to her…Kagura…* "will you stop staring at me?"

Sesshomaru was brought back to reality at her words. Vixen lay on her futon, her lavender eyes locked on his gold ones, "why do you stare at me? Am I such a disgusting creature to you?" Sesshomaru's stare turned into a cold glare, "and why do you question me?"

Vixen sighed and looked to the ceiling, "I just want to know…why am I so repulsive to you?" Sesshomaru's face remained emotionless, "repulsive? That does not describe you. But I do want to know why those youkai were after you. Tell me, vixen."

She turned her back to him, "the memories are painful in a way…I suppose…" "I gave you an order, vixen. Tell me what happened," Sesshomaru said sternly.

Vixen sighed, "My father…the lord of the Southern Lands…had ordered for me to become the mate of his friend's nephew…but the man was so unworthy of royalty….I refused to mate with him. So father had ordered for me to be thrown out of the castle until I had accepted him…but I didn't want to live in a deathly village so I said I'd mate with him but never did. But whenever my father insisted I refused. And so my father thought it would be better if the man, Trino, slept with me in my chambers…I hated him and so he…he raped me continually every night until I gave up and ran away…I had disgraced my father because I killed Trino! So I was driven out until the suitable punishment was thought up…"

"and your father had chosen and so he sent human and demon alike to search for you," Sesshomaru added. "because he knew it was forbidden to leave the lands where you were raised," she said, "why do you wish to know all this?" Sesshomaru paused before answering, "curiosity…and because…I want you to tell me your name. Not by which low people call you."

She turned to look at him for what seemed like days. Then she finally said, "Rina." Sesshomaru nodded, "Rina."

~*~*~2 weeks later~*~*~

Rina stayed in her room for the whole time she stayed there. She looked out the window, "I'll never be able to go back home…and besides…I'll be killed either way…for murdering Trino…and for crossing the forbidden lines between lands…" "and who will kill you?" Sesshomaru asked as he walked into the room.

Rina turned to him, "the only reason you let me stay here is to execute me because of my crimes." Sesshomaru sat against the wall, "I never said that." "then why?" Rina asked. "You're different than the other demons I've encountered. You have a nature that's different from most vixens," he stated.

"how is that?" Rina said, wanting more information. "most vixens wish for nothing other than to rut with the strongest male they meet. Even mixed breeds like yourself. I've encountered many neko and kitsune youkai mixed breeds and even they wished for nothing more than lust," Sesshomaru's emotionless face softened for a second then returned to it's original blank stare, "but you…you're gentle and caring. And hope for personal peace. Not the type of peace I've seen in others. You're strong by far with your wind sorcery and you would make a perfect fighter."

Rina blushed a bit, "so? What are you saying? That you approve of me or something?" "no. simply that I don't mind having you around. I don't have to be as ordering as I do with others and you'd make a good playmate for Rin." He said as a young girl about 10 walked in.

Rina looked at the girl then at Sesshomaru, *he…he doesn't mind my reputation? My crimes? He's not as cold as some people think…and he's younger than most lords I've met…* The girl looked at her before turning her attention to Sesshomaru, "Sesshomaru-sama…who is she? Is she my new friend?"

Sesshomaru nodded, refusing to look at the ten-year-old. The girl smiled and ran out of the room in sheer delight. Sesshomaru's eyes stayed locked on Rina, "you don't have to stay in here. But you can if you wish to do so." Rina sighed as she stood up, her legs still weak from not walking around for almost three weeks. She smiled at him, "I would like to go outside for a while."

Sesshomaru turned to leave, "just don't leave the castle grounds. Other youkai know when a demon does not belong in a certain area. And besides, you don't want to get jumped now do you?" Rina blinked, "wha-!?" Sesshomaru smirked, "it's easy to tell. I know you're in heat."
