Chapter 5: To Family or Not to Family

Sesshomaru's amber eyes gleamed as they settled on the young woman that stood at the balcony of his chambers. Her long dark brown hair was pinned up on the top of her head in a fancy twist. She was dressed in a royal purple and gold kimono, that's when a question nagged at Sesshomaru. How did he manage to find some one, as sweet and gentle as Rin?

His feet made no sound as he walked up behind her; he wrapped his arm around her slim waist. Sesshomaru then whispered lightly into her ear.

"You have once again stolen the breath away from this Sesshomaru."

He then removed his hand from her waist and moved it to the twist that her hair was done into.

"It would please me greatly if you would not confine your hair in such a way. I prefer it when it is framing your face."

Sesshomaru then slowly pulled out the clip and pins that held her hair. Once all of them were removed, her hair fell loose and slowly unwrapped itself, until it was all free from the twist. Sesshomaru then ran his clawed hand through her dark locks. After he combed it out, it seemed to wave down to the center of her back.

Rin's soft voice broke through his thoughts as she spoke to him.

"Forgive me my lord, Kiko told me to wear my hair like that. She told me that it was the way the lady of the Western Lands should wear it."

Sesshomaru's response was a simple nod as he slowly cupped Rin's chin in his right hand, bringing her to face him.

"You are unlike any lady before you. Therefore, your styles should be different, should they not for you are you, are you not?"

Rin could not help the slight blush that had found its way onto her cheeks, turning them a light pink. She then looked up at Sesshomaru, the minute she looked at him she couldn't help the smile that leapt into her lips. For he had just now told her self, something she had been sure that he would have told her not to be.

"Yes Milord I am, who I am and no one else."

After gazing into Rin beautiful cinnamon eyes for several minutes, Sesshomaru returned to the reason of why he was there beside Rin. It was early and the sky was turning a light purple over the horizon in a couple of hours it would turn pink and then orange as the sun rose higher into the sky.

"Would you care to take a walk with me? It seems the two of us have awakened early. For no one else is awake, perhaps once we are away from the castle you will share with me what it is that keeps you from sleeping?"

Rin nodded her head as she took his hand into hers.

"Yes, I would love to walk with you Sesshomaru."

They walked for several minutes in total silence neither one of them speaking. Several times it looked like Rin was going to speak; however she never did. Sesshomaru seemed to notice this and decided to speak first.

"Rin is there something you wish to speak to me about. You seemed restless last night in your sleep. I know something is going on in that mind of yours."

It took her a few minutes before she decided to answer him.

"My Lord asked me earlier what was on my mind; Rin now thinks she is ready to tell her lord."

Sesshomaru nodded for Rin to continue, his golden glaze never leaving Rin as she spoke.

"Go on Rin; tell me what is on your mind."

She pulled in a few breaths before she continued speaking to Sesshomaru.

"I'm worried about how today will go."

Hearing this Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at his mate. He then spoke of his confusion.

"What is it about today that worries you Rin? If it is Lord Ringo, you have nothing to worry about. He will not come near you again."

Rin smiled at hearing this, Sesshomaru's concern for her was sweet. It made her love her lord even more. However she was not concerned about Lord Ringo at all for she had heard that he and two of his wives would be making an appearance yet again. Though they would not be staying long, why she was unsure of there had been rumors that one of his wives had not been in the right condition to travel. As much as the advent from yesterday bothered her it was not what was bothering her now.

What was bothering her was how things would go with Sesshomaru and his half brother Inuyasha. She knew of Sesshomaru's hatred for Inuyasha and had even told him that it didn't matter to her weather or not Inuyasha and Kagome had come or not.

"My Lord, what has me worried is…I am afraid things will turn out bad between you and your brother."

Hearing this Sesshomaru couldn't help the smirk that spread across his lips. She was afraid that he would end up killing his half brother.

"Rin, you need not worry so much over things as this. No harm will come to Inuyasha. He is a father and his mate Kagome is not in a condition that would be good if he were to die. I am sure Inuyasha knows this as well."

Rin looked away from Sesshomaru she now felt ashamed to have worried so much about everything.

"I'm sorry my Lord, it was silly of me to think you and Inuyasha would fight."

Seeing Rin facing away from him, Sesshomaru placed a gentle hand against Rin's cheek. Feeling his hand slide down her cheek to her chin, Rin slowly looked up at him, in doing so her gleaming golden orbs locked with his cinnamon eyes. Sesshomaru's voice as cold yet soft as he spoke to her in his demanding way, he glaze never wavered away from hers.

"In that way you are correct Rin. For it is silly for you to worry about my brother and I, we are at a truce until the pup is born. However, for the sake of my niece and nephews, as well as you my Rin I will be as civil as I can while Inuyasha and his family are here."

The smile on Rin's face seemed to widen, at the mention of Inuyasha and Kagome's children. In all her worry she had completely forgotten that they would be coming. It would be good to see them again, she hadn't seen them since the twins Miran and Inuhiko were born, the oldest of Inuyasha and Kagome's family was their daughter Sera who had been three at the time.

"It will be wonderful to see the children again, for I am sure they have grown since I have seen them. It's been three years so I'm sure they are not as little as they once were."

Sesshomaru simply nodded in agreement as he continued on through the castle garden. That's when he saw it once again, that look of longing was once again in Rin's eyes. She had only had this look once before, which had been when his two nephews had been born. His mind then wondered to Inuyasha and the human female that he had mated too. If he remembered right it hadn't been long after he had mated her, that his brother came to him to announce that he and his mate were having a pup.

He really had no desire to have a pup, they would be hanyous something that he, Sesshomaru detested with his very being. Yet seeing his niece Sera grow with each year she only seemed to show her strengths and not her weakeness. If his worthless half-breed brother could throw an offspring with such strength, then surely he Sesshomaru would have a pup that was even stronger.

"Rin, I must ask you something. I require a truthful answer from you."

Rin looked at Sesshomaru as if by looking at him would tell her what he wanted to know.

"Yes Sesshomaru, what is it you wish to know?"

Sesshomaru remained stoic as he looked off into the distance and then back at Rin, the serious expression on his facial features never changing.

"I wish to know if you truly wish for a pup."

It took Rin a few minutes for Rin to understand what Sesshomaru was talking about. After a few minutes it all registered inside of Rin's head, dog youkai referred to their children as pups. This had to be a dream; her Sesshomaru was once again asking her if she wanted a child. He had mentioned it earlier, but they hadn't talked about it much and now he was once again bring it up. However no matter how much this made Rin happy it made her feel, she couldn't help but feel like a pup wasn't something that Sesshomaru wanted ever.

"Yes, it is something that I do hunger for, but Rin would never ask for something that her lord did not also want. I would want Sesshomaru to be happy as well."

Sesshomaru's gleaming golden orbs widened at Rin's confession. She hungered for a family, yet she was willing to deny herself happiness if it was not what he wished as well. However, his voice showed no emotion when he spoke.

"I see, then so be it."

He then started to make his way to the castle gates to greet the few returning lords and ladies. Without even looking at her he spoke to her.

"Lady Rin, have you forgotten our guest that are waiting for us to greet them?"

Snapping out of her thoughts, Rin hurried forward to catch up with her lord.

"No Sesshomaru my lord of course not, I am coming."

Rin's eyes widened as she saw who was walking through the castle gates, it was Lord Ringo but what was he doing here? Sesshomaru noticed the sudden surprise that leapt into Rin's eyes causing him to look in the direction she was looking in. His cold eyes narrowed down as he saw that it was Lord Ringo, two of his wives following close behind him.

His curiosity was peeked as he watched him walk toward Rin, he then kneeled and took her hand in his and kissed it. Wait a minute had he just kissed his Rin? Sesshomaru watched as Ringo then stood and then bowed to her.

"I have come too apologize for my rudeness from yesterday. I was upset and I should have never blamed it on you. I can only hope you and your lord will accept my apologizes."

Rin cast a glance over at Sesshomaru, as if to see if he was willing to forgive Ringo. His only response was a simple nod, bringing a smile to Rin's lips as she looked back at Lord Ringo.

"I accept your apology Lord Ringo."

Lord Ringo then noticed how Rin and Sesshomaru were glancing behind him. It was then that he decided to introduce his wives. Sesshomaru gaze fell on the female standing in front of the other. Her ruby eyes had flecks of gold shimmering with in them. Her dark hair was braided down her back; deep maroon stripes graced each of her soft cheeks. There was no doubt in Sesshomaru's mind she was an inu youkai. She showed much pride in her eyes as she listened intently to what her lord was saying to Rin. Ringo's voice brought him out of his thoughts when he spoke to him.

This is my first wife Akako."

To show her respect Akako bowed to Sesshomaru and then Rin. It was then that Sesshomaru got a good look at the female demon that stood behind Akako. She had chestnut colored hair and sapphire colored eyes she too was pleasing to one's eyes. It was when the female walked forward that he saw it, a chestnut colored tail hung from beneath her kimono; she was indeed a wolf demon. Sesshomaru bowed back to Akako as did Rin as Ringo introduced his next wife.

"This stunning lovely is my fourth wife Yei."

At hearing her name Yei bowed to Sesshomaru and then to Rin to where as they bowed back in return. Sesshomaru cocked an eyebrow as he looked at Ringo and his wives.

"Lord Ringo, it is rumored that you have four wives you, yourself introduced one of them as your fourth. Yet only two of them have accompanied you today, it is custom for the two head wives to company their lord to banquets. However, you bring one of lower standing."

Lord Ringo bowed to Sesshomaru once more.

"I mean no disrespect Lord Sesshomaru, my second ranking wife Suma is not in the best condition to travel in. The mere fact that she made it this far out without problems is a sheer miracle."

Sesshomaru nodded in understanding as he continued to speak to Ringo.

"I see, I do hope when she is well again that you will bring her to met Rin and I when she can travel once again."

Ringo nodded to Sesshomaru, as he questioned him. Sesshomaru beckoned Rin to his side as he did so.

"Perhaps you can explain to me how you managed to find a female such as Lady Yei? It seems like it would be a very interesting tale indeed. Come with me into our garden, for I still have a few hours before I am to meet with my brother and his family.

Inuyasha cracked an amber eye at the sound of giggling; he turned his head to see if it was Kagome who was giggling to find that she was still sound asleep. Seeing how the pup had kept her awake all night he was glad to see her sleeping at last, for he knew she needed it. After a little while Inuyasha started to drift off to sleep again. Only to be startled awake when something pounced on top of his chest, causing the air that was in his lungs to be pushed out.

"Oomph…"

His amber gold eyes were greeted by a set of gold and slate colored eyes. There was no stopping the small grin that broke onto his lips, as he looked at the two three year old boys. Long raven- brown hair ran down the back of the boy with slate colored eyes, while two black dog ears twitched on top of his head, he was dressed in a dark green haori and pants.

"Daddy, Sera told Inuhiko not to come in and bother you and mommy, but he wouldn't listen. So, so I ran after him…"

The young boy then frowned at his father.

"but, but I couldn't catch him I sorry daddy."

Inuyasha had to try hard to hold back the small laugh that wanted to break out from within him as he looked at his son's little pouty face. Inuyasha then gently patted him on the head as he spoke to him.

"It's alright Miran, you tried you're best and I'm sure the next time you do it will be better than the first."

Hearing his father praising him for at least trying Miran couldn't help but smile. However his smile only got a feh from beside him.

"Feh."

Inuyasha cocked an eyebrow as he look over at the other pup sitting beside his brother. His little hands hidden in his red fire rat haori, while his arms were crossed across his chest, his little silver ears, twitching ever so often, while his amber eyes refused to look at his father or brother.

"That's cuz he's a big wimp."

Inuyasha frowned at hearing this.

"Inuhiko, you know better then to talk about your brother like that."

Before he got to say more he was interrupted by a female sounding voice.

"He only does it so then I'll have a reason to beat up on him."

Inuyasha looked up toward the bedroom door to see a six-year-old hanyou leaning against the doorframe. Her black ears seemed out of place with her long flowing silver locks. She was dressed in a purple haori made from fur of the fire rat.

"Sera, what did your mother and I tell you about hitting your brothers, they're younger than you."

Her brown eyes continued to glare over at her father.

"Keh, only by three years besides he's always asking for it. Besides I told him not to come in here and he didn't listen to me."

Sera's chocolate gaze then fell on her mother, who was still asleep despite the noise Miran and Inuhiko had been making.

"Besides mom looks like she needs some sleep. So if they want to get rough they should go outside, oh and Uncle Sesshomaru is looking for you daddy, he says he needs to talk to you about something."

At hearing this Inuyasha raised an eyebrow at his daughter before looking over at Kagome who was still sleeping. Seeming to understand her father concern Sera walked over to Inuyasha and placed a hand on her father's shoulder. A small smile crossed her lips as her chocolate eyes locking with her father's golden orbs, as she spoke to him.

"Don't worry about mom, daddy I'll stay here until she wakes up that way she'll know where you and the boys have gone."

Sera then gave Inuyasha a toothy grin as he smiled back at her.

"All right then, Inuhiko, Miran let's go find Sesshomaru."

Once she was sure that her father and little brothers were gone, Sera scampered into bed with her mother. She then snuggled in beside Kagome sighing as she took in her flowery scent. Her ears then twitched as the soft beating of her little brother or sister's heart rang inside her ears. The soft beating of the pup's heart slowly lulled Sera into a peaceful sleep.

Kagome cracked an eye as she looked down at Sera, who was now curled up beside of her. She smiled softly as she watched how her ears were twitching as if keeping in time with music being played. Kagome had seen the same thing happen to Inuyasha when he fell asleep listening to the pup moving around inside her womb.

Inuyasha glanced down at his two sons as the walked on each side of him.

"So which one of you is going to tell me who it was that dropped the three of you off here?"

Neither one of the boys answered him as the continued they quest to find Sesshomaru. That was when he caught Inuhiko eyes his brother. However, Inuyasha remained quiet as the scent of his half- brother drew closer.

Sesshomaru's eyes watched as Inuyasha and his sons drew closer to him. Neither one of the brothers looked human in appearance, however their scent was the same as Inuyasha it was the scent of a hanyou.

"I take it Inuyasha that you received the message I gave to your daughter."

Inuyasha's arms remained folded as he glared at his brother.

"Yeah I did, so what was so important that you needed to talk to me about?"

Sesshomaru's amber glaze fell on Miran and Inuhiko as the bounded after one another giggly as they did so.

"I wish to speak to you about your family."

As to the question asked by Jade Goddess: No Rin's blood condition has nothing to do with her period Rin's body became in tune with Sesshomaru's wants. Sesshomaru subconsciously wants to have pups with out really knowing himself. So Rin's body is reacting to the little bit of demon blood that is course through her body.
