(A/N: essis: Yes you're right Rin did change a little, however the small amount of blood he past to her, wasn't enough to make her a full demon or even a half demon. So I'm not sure what you would call Rin.

Jade Goddess: Rin didn't deflect a demon's attack; Rin was the one who attacked the demon. Then again it wasn't really Rin; it was the pup inside of her.

sesshy'sgirlfriend: Sorry but I can't tell you whether or not is a half demon or a full demon, that info will be found out in a much later chapter. Hope you enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 8: A Father's Wondering Heart

InuYasha's ears flattened to the top of his head as a great roar came across the distance. He knew that roar all too well.

"Sesshomaru."

Kagome walked up InuYasha with their young son Takeshi in her arms; his golden eyes were bright as he looked at his father. Takeshi then started to giggle as InuYasha began to tickle him.

"InuYasha, did you hear that? What could sound so angery and sad?"

InuYasha looked at Kagome as he took Takeshi from Kagome and looked off in the distance.

"I'm not sure why I care, but it sounded like Sesshomaru. He sounds angry and sad."

Kagome just smiled at InuYasha for a bit before answering him.

"You care InuYasha because; no matter what Sesshomaru is still your brother."

InuYasha gave a simple keh, as he went to see Miroku and Sango as well as their son Kazuo. He then looked at Kagome for a second.

"Go inside and tell the others that they're going to be staying with Miroku and Sango for a few days and that they better behave."

Kagome gave her husband a confused look.

"InuYasha, where are we going, and what about Takeshi he's still too young for me to leave in Miroku and Sango's care?

InuYasha sighed as he looked at Kagome.

"I never said we were leaving Takeshi here, make sure the two of you are dressed warmly you got it."

InuYasha then handed Takeshi back to Kagome as he continued on his way to Miroku and Sango's home.

InuYasha cleared his throat as he called out to his friends.

"Hey Sango, Miroku you home? I need too ask a favor."

A few seconds later a miniature version of Miroku poked his head out from behind the flap on the hut. Instead of having Miroku's slate colored eyes, he had Sango's warm brown ones. The four year-old giggled when his little eyes fell on InuYasha.

"Hey you little squirt are your mom and dad home?"

InuYasha jumped back a little when Miroku's head popped out the door suddenly.

"Why InuYasha what a pleasant surprise, to what do we owe this visit today?"

InuYasha walked into the hut as Miroku held the flap open.

"I need to ask as favor of you and Sango. Well I should say Kagome and I do."

"What kind of a favor InuYasha?"

He lifted his head at the sound of Sango's voice. Her slightly rounding abdominal was the only hint that she was expecting. InuYasha's thoughts wandered to Kagome when she had first told him that they were expecting Takeshi. He still didn't understand how Kagome could give him four children and still have the slender waist she had when she was fifteen. Out of the blue he envisioned Kagome with pup once more, he however knew that Takeshi would probably be the last one. He knew that he would have to be happy with the new pup that he had. His was a month old after all. InuYasha then shook his head clear at the sound of Sango's voice along with Miroku's voice as well.

"InuYasha are you alright?"

"Yes, what is the favor you wish to ask of us?"

"Oh yeah right sorry about that, I was wondering if the two of you could keep an eye on Sera, Miran and Inuhiko while Kagome and I are gone for a few days?"

InuYasha waited for his two friends to respond to his question. Sango was the first to speak up.

"Of course we will, is there something wrong?"

InuYasha just shook his head.

"No just something I have to check is all Kagome and Takeshi are coming with me."

He then though about what he was asking once more.

"Are you two sure you can handle them all, Sera isn't that bad, but the two of you know that Miran and Inuhiko are a hand full? You'll have Kazuo too are you sure that you guys can handle them all."

Miroku just waved a hand at InuYasha.

"Relax my friend, we'll be fine. Shippo stops by almost every day remember, his fox magick always keeps the boys busy. So I'm sure Miran and Inuhiko will be fine."

InuYasha just frowned at Miroku he wasn't so sure it he was right or not. However, he wasn't given anytime to argue with Miroku or Sango before Miran and Inuhiko scampered through the door, pouncing on him as they did so.

"Are we really going to be staying with Sango and Miroku, while you're gone daddy?"

Miran asked, his slate eyes bright with wonder. Causing InuYasha to laugh at how cute he looked.

"I think so but you better check with them first."

InuYasha stated as he pointed over at Sango and Miroku. Miran eyes followed his father's movement as he stared at Miroku and Sango. His little eyes lit up as he watched them nod their heads. Unable to hold back his excitement, Miran jumped up into Miroku's arms and started to hug him.

InuYasha's ears twitched as he heard some one mumble.

"I don't see why we can't go with you, Takeshi gets to go."

Kagome who had just walked into the hut with Sera and Takeshi, frown and started to say something when InuYasha stopped her. His golden orbs telling her that he had this one, kneeling down InuYasha scooped Inuhiko into his arms as he started to explain things to him.

"Inuhiko you know why Takeshi gets to go with us, he might be a month old now but he still needs your mother's milk. Just like you and Miran did once."

He then glanced over at Sango making Inuhiko look as well.

"You know how your mother and I have Sera look out for you and Miran when you guys go play?"

Inuhiko nodded his head in understanding.

"Uh huh, daddy."

InuYasha smiled at his son's answer.

"Well you see your mother and I want you and your brother and sister, to keep an eye on your Aunt Sango, cousin Kazuo and Uncle Miroku while we're gone. It's a pretty big job but do you think you could help Sera and Miran out with it?"

After taking in every word that his father had said, Inuhiko gave him a toothy grin that showed off his small fangs.

"That's my boy."

InuYasha place a quick kiss on his forehead right before he gave him a big hug, he then did the same to Miran and Sera, as did Kagome.

"Alright the three of you behave while we're gone and remember what I told you."

All third children ran outside as the watched as their parent and infant brother disappear into the afternoon sun.

Sesshomaru made his fourth turn past in front of his and Rin's bed chamber. He still didn't understand what was taking so long. He hadn't thought that Rin's injury had been that serious, could he have been wrong? Sesshomaru then remembered the poison vapors rising off of Yayoi's dead body. The vapors remained a mystery to him for he was the only one that he knew that could produce such a poison. His golden eyes widened in surprise as the thought came to him.

`Could Rin have produced the poison that was responsible for Yayoi's death? No it's impossible. Even if a small amount of my blood courses through her veins she is still human.'

That when another thought hit him, could a pup created by him and Rin hold so much power?

"No it is impossible I have never lost control."

It was then that Sesshomaru remembered the one night that he did lose control. It had only been that one night, but that's all that was needed. He then turned toward the chamber doors just as Mina opened them.

"How is Rin?"

Mina bowed to her lord as she answered him.

"Lady Rin is resting; the wound is not that serious and strangely is already starting to heal itself."

His voice remained cold as he proceeded to speak to Mina.

"And the pup how is it fairing?"

Mina's silver eyes widened at her lords words. He knew, he knew of the pup. Then again Mina figured that her lord would know of it.

"The pup seems to be fairing well, my lord."

Sesshomaru was silent for a while before he spoke again.

"Mina, do you know how far along Rin is?"

Mina in turned bowed her head in shame.

"Sadly I do not my lord there are things about the human body that even I do not know."

Sesshomaru nodded to her.

"I see, very well you may go now."

Mina bowed once more as she disappeared out of her lord's view.

Sesshomaru made his way graciously into their bedchamber. His eyes never left Rin's sleeping form. All of this was his fault; she was injured because he was too blind to see what the Lord Yayoi had truly been planning from the start. Also Rin was now carrying his pup because he had lost control over himself.

"How could I've let myself be so foolish." his cold amber eyes raked over Rin as she slept.

`Why is that she a mere human can cause this Sesshomaru to lose control over his emotions? Could this power that you have over me truly be love; is it possible for me to be in love with you Rin, to truly have feeling for you?'

That's when the cold winter wind changed and blew through the door on the balcony, making Sesshomaru stand and pull the doors closed. Gray clouds were moving in yet the air did not smell wet, only cold.

"It would seem that winter will be upon us early this year."

The cold winter wind also brought something else to his nose.

"InuYasha, why have you and your mate come here today, I do not have the patience to deal will you. Yet perhaps this will work out well, I can have InuYasha's human mate Kagome take a look at Rin. Surly she will be able to tell how far along she is."

Sesshomaru then slowly and quietly walked out of the bedchamber. Making his way down the hall he awaited the announcement of his brother and his wife.

A few minutes later Sesshomaru could here InuYasha yelling at one of his servants and from the sound of it, it was Jakken.

"Move it or lose it toad."

"Why you ungrateful dog, how dare you speak to me like that."

InuYasha snarled back at the toad.

"I thought I told you to keep your cold fingers off of Kagome. Now get out of my way!"

Jakken however stiffened in his spot as Sesshomaru's cold uncaring voice rang though the room.

"Jakken that is enough, leave us now."

Jakken's yellow eyes widened in fear as he watched his lord step out of the shadows, he hadn't expected to see Sesshomaru appear.

"Ye-sssss, my lord as you wish."

Sesshomaru then watched as Jakken hurried out of the room. His cold orbs then turned to face InuYasha.

"Why are you here little brother?"

InuYasha kehed, as he looked at Sesshomaru.

"You're the one that called me."

He then noticed Sesshomaru bandaged right arm. Sesshomaru's eyes followed InuYasha's in turn.

"It is nothing it is only a scratch."

He just didn't get it, if Sesshomaru wasn't in bad shape and in need of help. Why did he call out like he did? That's when it hit him.

"Hey Sesshomaru where's Rin? Did something happen to her?"

Sesshomaru glared at InuYasha for a brief moment.

"Yes, she was injured. However, her wound is not that serious, since you and Kagome are here I would like her to look at Rin herself."

Removing Takeshi off her back and out of the papoose, Kagome then handed him to InuYasha.

"Of course I'll take a look at Rin's wounds if that is what you would like."

Sesshomaru nodded his head and motioned for Kagome to follow him. She complied by in turn following in his steps. Kagome looked up a few minutes later to see a huge oak door standing before her.

"Rin is resting inside these chambers. You are free to enter when you are ready."

Kagome nodded in understanding as she slowly pushed the door open and walked inside. She couldn't get over the vastness of the bedroom. It wasn't fancy but and the same time it wasn't plain either. The walls were made from craved stone and marble, old tapestries hung on the walls each one mapped out a different story.

Her eyes then fell on the large king size bed that sat to the right of the large room. Dark blue satin sheet were pulled over the bed along with a pale gray comforter on the top. The sheer netting draping from the top of the bed was open enough to allow Kagome to see Rin resting comfortably. Unsure of what to do at first Kagome spoke to Rin.

"Rin are you awake it's Kagome."

Kagome waited a few minutes for a response, that when she heard the covers on the bed shift. That was then followed by a soft voice.

"Ka…gome? What are you doing here?"

Kagome smiled as she made her way over to the side of the bed to sit down.

"Well InuYasha got a feeling that something was wrong. So he came to check things out. After we got here Sesshomaru asked me to look in on you and make sure everything was well with you."

Rin looked up at Kagome curiously at first and then shrugged it off.

"All right, if Sesshomaru thinks you should check me over then I guess its ok."

With a smile on her face Kagome began unwrapping the bandage on Rin's shoulder. However what she saw once the bandage was even more surprising, it was gone the wound on Rin's shoulder was no longer there. It was almost like it had never existed, but how could that be? Unless, unless there was something else involved here it was strange really. Kagome remembered something similar happening when she was carrying Takeshi, but she had been farther along then what Rin seemed to be.

After wrapping a bandage over an already healed wound, Kagome just smiled at Rin as she made her way out of the room for a moment.

"There all done, why don't you rest while I go check on our boys."

Kagome winked at Rin. Once understanding what Kagome meant Rin smiled and winked back at her.

"Oh ok."

Kagome let out a breath she was pretty sure that Sesshomaru wanted her to tell him how far along Rin was. Rin only seemed to be a month a long; something told Kagome that Sesshomaru expected that it only happened recently.

`Boy is he going to be surprised, then again so will Rin. I want to do a pregnancy test first to make sure I'm right.'

Kagome then glanced down at the pouch that was attached to her hip, right before she peeked out the door at InuYasha, Takeshi and Sesshomaru.

"I hope every thing is all right out here? I'll be out in a second. Oh and InuYasha Takeshi better still be sleeping."

InuYasha let out a breath as he watched Kagome close the door behind her. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at his brother's actions. He didn't understand the relationship of his brother and his mate.

"Why is it InuYasha that you are the male yet your mate seems to still be dominant over you?"

InuYasha just shrugged his shoulders at Sesshomaru as he continued to rock Takeshi in his arms.

"Kagome isn't dominant over me all the time, she just is now. Kagome's great with our pups; so when they're this age I do what Kagome ask me to do with them, when they get older we work together when it comes to disciplining them and helping them to grow."

InuYasha looked up from Takeshi to look Sesshomaru in the face.

"Who knows Sesshomaru, maybe you'll get to see what I am talking about."

Sesshomaru did his best to ignore InuYasha's words, for every time he thought of having a pup with Rin a strange feeling flooded his chest. He was unfamiliar with this feeling and he did not like it.

Then again the Great Demon Lord couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to experience the strange joy InuYasha seemed to get from his children.

Kagome explained everything about what a pregnancy test was, and now the only thing they had to do was wait for a few minutes to find out their answer. Kagome could already tell that Rin was excited; however she had no clue of how Sesshomaru was going to act. She was sure that Sesshomaru already had a clue that Rin was. The only thing was how was he going to act when it was said to him?

Putting on her best smile Kagome looked over at Rin as she spoke,

"Well Rin it's time, this is the moment of truth. The minute we look and see what color the strip turned we'll know if you're going to have a baby."

At first Rin was excited to see if she was going to have a baby, then she became scared. What if Sesshomaru wasn't pleased? What if he turned her away and refused to be near her while she was pregnant?

"Um…Kagome-sama? I think I've changed my mind I don't think I wait to know if I'm carrying Lord Sesshomaru's child or not."

This shocked Kagome completely, at first she had been so excited to learn whether or not she was having a baby and now her mood had changed completely.

"Rin does this have anything to do with how you think Sesshomaru will react to finding out that you're pregnant?"

Rin shifted in her spot in the bed as she looked down at her hands.

"Well yes in a way it is. You see my Lord Sesshomaru did not wish to have children."

Kagome's doe colored eyes widened at hearing this, she just couldn't believe it.

"What! Well if he didn't want child ever there is should have never mated to you, or at least never had sex with you!"

Giving herself some time to cool off, Kagome then gave Rin something to please her rest. She then headed out to give Sesshomaru a piece of her mind.

InuYasha shifted on his feet as he felt the anger that was building up in Kagome. That was before she came storming out of the bedchamber where Rin was resting. He then noticed the little white stick that Kagome was waving in her hand.

`If that thing is what I think it is, then Rin is…'

His thought trailed off as he watched as Kagome stalked over toward Sesshomaru. Kagome he knew would be in big trouble if she said something smart mouth to Sesshomaru. However, Sesshomaru would be in trouble if Kagome decided to concentrate the energy that was now pulsing around her body toward Sesshomaru. Slipping Takeshi into the strange little baby backpack, InuYasha hurriedly grabbed Kagome's arm.

"Take it easy Kagome, what's going on."

Kagome did her best to calm down as she glared at Sesshomaru, who in turn looked at her in curiosity.

"I'll tell you what going on…this is what's going on."

She replied as she waved the pregnancy test in the air before continuing her rant.

"First he mates to her to save her life, which is a good thing. Then he has the nerve to really sleep with her and then tell her that he does not wish to have children with her."

InuYasha himself became hurt after hearing those words. For he knew the very reason that Sesshomaru did not wish to have children with Rin, they would be hanyous. Something InuYasha was and Sesshomaru couldn't stand. He then noticed that the fire in Kagome's eyes was dying down and was now being replaced by tears.

Tears now streaming down her face, Kagome continued to stare at the cold demon prince.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but it looks like your going to be a father. It looks like Rin might be a month along, so congratulations."

She then tossed the pregnancy test at Sesshomaru as she ran down the hallway toward the guest rooms, tears cascading behind her. InuYasha sighed in Kagome direction right before he turned to glare at Sesshomaru.

"Thanks a lot brother, her emotions are still a little tender after having Takeshi. Not that you want it but my advice is that you better get over your self-centeredness fast. Rin's going to need you, there's going to be times that she going to start crying and there are times she going to be depressed or angry and you're not going to have a clue on what to do."

InuYasha's golden orbs looked towards the oak doors that Rin was behind.

"If I were you Sesshomaru, which I'm not, I'd get started. You've got a long six months a head of you; when she goes into labor early she going to be scared to death, so good luck with that."

Sesshomaru stared after his half brother as he went in the direction is wife had run in. That left him alone to ponder his own thoughts. He then took a step toward his and Rin's bedchamber and pushed the heavy oak doors open. Sesshomaru then made his way slowly over to Rin's side.

The Demon Lord stood there for a long time, just taking in each and every detail of Rin's lovely and soft body. He then gently and slowly sat on the bed beside of Rin. He eyes the strange white object that was still in his hand, he could only guess that the pink stripe some how meant that Rin was pregnant.

"Is it truly possible, could this Sesshomaru become a father?"

His cold amber orbs looked out the window and saw the heavy snow that was falling outside. Getting up he pulled the heavy blind down, it appeared that his brother and wife would have to stay longer then they had planned. Sesshomaru then once again took his place beside of Rin's sleeping form. His eyes then traveled down to stare at her abdominal area. The idea of having a pup with this one woman, who had managed to melt the ice that had build up around his heart all of these years, was slowly starting to grow on him. Second by second, minute by minute, Sesshomaru was slowly starting to realize that his pride no longer mattered, and that this pup could grow up to be strong as well.

He then didn't something even he, himself hadn't expected. Sesshomaru slowly brought his right hand to Rin's abdomen; he then gently laid it on top of it. His eyes widened for a moment when he felt the small demonic aura, coming from Rin's abdominal area in small waves.

`Is this what it feelings like to know that you are responsible for creating life, instead of destroying it? What other strange feelings will I feel as the next several months go by? Will I even be able to stand it?'

Sesshomaru's eyes then drifted once more over Rin's sleeping face. That's when he realized it, it had never been clear to him but now it was.

"Yes, Rin for you I shall be able to bare anything. I still find it strange that you are able to do this to this Sesshomaru. However, that is for another time. For now I shall attend to whatever you may need."

(A/N: Well everyone I promised that thing well start to get interesting. I hope you continue to enjoy this story as much as I enjoy writing it. Oh things will get interesting not only for Sesshomaru and Rin, but for Miroku and Sango as well as Kagome and InuYasha.
