A fire crackled as a stick prodded it gently. A gnarled face stared into the dim flames thoughtfully, the one eye showing the person's concentration. Kagome and Sango sat in front of the village's elder miko. Kaede looked up from the fire and locked gazes with the two waiting girls.
“Are you expecting me to agree to this plan?” She asked slowly, her one eye piercing through the flinching girl's souls'.
Kagome coughed then nodded. “Kaede-baba, onegai. Sango is afraid that because of this Shikon no Tama object and of its youkai attraction, her family and friend's are in grave danger.” The miko pleaded softly, her blue eyes showing the truth in her words.
Kaede turned to Sango and looked at her questionably. Sango sighed and nodded, her chocolate eyes showing her worry. “Hai, Kaede-baba I agree to what Kagome-chan has said if you are wondering. I fear for my village for my Otou-san is growing older and weaker while my brother is still young. Many of my Otou-san's greatest fighter's are now past their prime and will not be able to defend themselves against power-seeking monoke.” She sighed sadly.
Kaede nodded slowly in agreement. “But are ye both forgetting of the village here? And it's people? If ye both leave, then I will be left to protect the people.” Kaede sighed and shook her head. “I am too old and weak to be able to fend off any youkai Kagome, Sango. I have long lost my miko skills and accuracy with bow. No. I do not think this is a wise idea.”
Kagome and Sango glanced at one another. Turning to Kaede, Kagome locked gazes with the elder woman.
Her pretty face set firmly, Kagome's blue eyes held Kaede's unwavering orb. “Kaede when you were training me did you not teach me that as a miko it is my duty to help those in the time of need? Is it not my calling to ensure the safety of the ningen race from the youkai? What you have taught me you are now saying not to do. You are being a hypocrite. I can not stand by and know that I can help these people but will not be able to lend my aid because you will not find interns for my position and Sango's.” The miko stated firmly, her voice strong and ringing with authority.
Kaede sighed and threw her wrinkled and thin hands in the air as a sign of defeat. “Onegai, I agree! If you insist upon this journey and choose to ignore its dangers, then I will grant you your wish to be able to venture to the Taijya village and retrieve the Shikon no Tama and place it under your protection.” The old woman groaned as she muttered angrily to herself.
Kagome smiled at the smirking Sango and winked teasingly at her. Sango nodded and then bowed lowly to Kaede as she stood up. “Domo Arigatou, Kaede-baba.” They announced in unison.
Kaede glared at them and pointed to the door. “Mimiko and Kastuteru wil take care of your positions while you are away. They have at least some of the requirements.” The old woman grumbled to herself.
Leaving the tiny hut, Sango and Kagome looked at one another. “Well when do we leave?” Sango asked.
Kagome looked at the forest that surrounded the village. Sighing, Kagome smiled. “Today. We must hurriedly pack and go with great speed to your village. It is a four day ride.” She announced.
Sango nodded. “Hai. We will leave in the next hour. I will be back here with my horse and supplies, Kagome-chan!” the Taijya said as she walked to her own hut.
Kagome smiled as she walked through the village to her own home. Humming she could not help but feel overjoyed. She was finally getting a break from the village life! She was finally going on a real adventure! Smiling brightly, she skipped to her hut.
