Chapter 2

Snakes and Cool Parents

Everyone woke up early the next day. Everyone but the kids were kind of nervous about the journey. They all had families now and they were afraid of what might happen. Inuki and Reiha were excited that they got to go on the `trip.'

Kagome then thought about her family on the other side of the well. She visited them a lot. They would be worried if she didn't tell them she couldn't visit for a while. Inuki probably would want to see them before they left.

"Inuyasha we should go tell my family that we'll be gone." Kagome said.

"Hai. We'll go after everything is packed and we're about ready to go." Inuyasha said.

After about a half hour Inuyasha, Kagome, and Inuki came back from the well. Kagome had a big yellow pack with her. Ms. Higurashi wouldn't let them leave without some supplies.

"It's just like the old days." Kagome said. "I hope things won't be exactly the same."

"Don't worry about it. You can control your miko powers now." Inuyasha said.

"I guess." They all walked back to their house to meet with everyone. "Is everyone ready to go?" Kagome asked.

They all nodded. The group headed west on the search for Sesshomaru. The kids walked ahead of them running around. "What do we tell the kids when someone gets hurt?" Kagome asked. "You know Inuyasha. He always gets hurt."

"Oi, I do not." Inuyasha said.

"We'll all have to take be more careful when entering a battle. That means Inuyasha that you can't just fight blindly." Miroku said.

"Feh. I know what I'm doing half the time." Inuyasha said. He did fight blindly a lot. For his family he would try to be more careful.

After walking for a couple of hours Inuki and Reiha started complaining about their feet hurting. Kohaku carried Reiha on his back and Inuyasha had Inuki on his. Shippo was used to the long walks, that and he was a youkai.

"Do any of us even know where Sesshomaru might be?" asked Kohaku.

Everyone thought about it. No one had a clue. "He's probably somewhere in the west." Inuyasha said.

"That's really vague Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"I don't know what else to tell you." He said.

"Look the kids are tired. Why don't we stay at the next village?" Sango said.

"Feh." Inuyasha said. "There's a village not too far from here."

They got to the village and managed to get two rooms from a villager. Miroku did his `ominous cloud' routine and was asked to stay at the richest villagers house.

"Who knew after five years it would still work." Miroku said.

"Some things never change." Kagome said.

They ate dinner and everyone split off into their rooms. Kagome, Inuyasha, Inuki, and Shippo shared a room and Sango, Miroku, Kohaku, Reiha, and Kirara shared the other room.

The next morning everyone woke up to the children's laughter. They were running around in circles trying to wake everyone up so they could eat breakfast. Kagome and Sango cooked while Inuyasha and Miroku decided on what direction to go.

Sesshomaru could be anywhere. While the group was on the move he would more than likely be on the move too.

Everyone ate their breakfast and headed west. Everything was going smoothly. Suddenly Inuyasha, Inuki, Shippo, and Kirara all stopped. Inuyasha stood in a defensive stance while Kirara transformed.

"What is it?" Kagome asked. She did not like the feeling she was getting.

"I don't know but I don't like the smell of it." Inuyasha said.

"Something doesn't feel right. I suggest everyone to be on their guard." Miroku said.

"Kohaku stay near the kids." Kagome said. Kohaku grabbed Reiha and Shippo pulled Inuki along with them. "No matter what happens don't move." She put a shield around them.

Everyone looked in the direction that Inuyasha and Kirara were looking. They could hear a rumbling noise and then the ground began to shake. Inuyasha pulled tetsusaiga out of its sheath and it transformed.

As the rumbling got stronger they could see dust coming over a little hill. As it came closer they saw little black snake looking youkai heading straight towards them. Inuyasha readied the tetsusaiga. "Stand back. Kaze no Kizu."

Everyone watched as the snake youkai were wiped out. Out of nowhere some came out of the ground in front of them. Everyone did their best to attack them. Inuyasha couldn't use Kaze no Kizu. Just in case someone got in front of it.

Inuki and Reiha watched in amazement. They had never seen their parents fight. All they could do was watch. Inuki watched as Inuyasha slashed at the youkai with his claws and swords. He wished he could do that. Reiha watched as Sango hurled her weapon at the youkai.

Kagome stayed near the kids. She wasn't much of a physical fighter. She just used her arrows made out of her energy and the blasts of power. Some of the youkai had managed to get close to her.

She positioned her hands as if she were holding a bow and arrow. The kids looked at her funny because nothing was in her hands. "Just watch." Shippo said. Kagome concentrated and blue energy shaped like an arrow formed in her hand and she released the energy and shot the youkai.

Every time they got too close she shot them with her arrows. Inuki couldn't believe she could do something like that. She had never done it before. It was like he was looking at his parents for the first time.

Suddenly the youkai stopped. They slithered into the ground and came out of it when they were about twenty feet away. The ground shook worse than before. In the middle of the youkai something came out of the ground.

The `thing' that came out of the ground had a human top half and snakes bottom half. He had long black hair and an orange tail. He looked at Kagome. "Are you the miko that protects the Shikon no Tama?" He asked.

"Who the hell wants to know?" Inuyasha yelled. He jumped in front of Kagome.

"I am Taki. I'm here to take the Shikon no Tama and kill the miko." He said.

"You can't have it or kill her." Inuyasha said.

"I don't need your permission. I was given a boost of power and was told where to find the miko." He said.

"What power boost? Who told you where we were?" Miroku asked.

"I don't know who it was. The person said they would tell me where the jewel was and help me as long as I killed the miko who guards it. I think Kagome was the name of the miko. Am I right?" He said.

"You won't get within ten feet of her." Inuyasha yelled.

"If I have to go through you so be it." He slithered toward Inuyasha. He dodged as Taki swung his tail around trying to hit Inuyasha. He waved a hand in the air and the snake youkai attacked Miroku and Sango. "Wouldn't be fair to only let you have all the fun would it?"

Kagome didn't know what to do. She couldn't hit the youkai Inuyasha was fighting for fear of hitting him. Miroku and Sango were jumping around all over the place.

Kagome got an idea and climbed up a tree. She looked down. She could see everyone and everything from there. Since Inuyasha couldn't hit the snake youkai Kagome thought she'd try to keep it from moving so he could.

She held an arrow made out of her energy. When she saw her chance she let it fly. It soared to the ground and went through the snake youkai's tail. He couldn't move. Inuyasha saw his chance and cut him in half.

The snake youkai fell to the ground and dissolved into thin air. The other snake youkai did too. They walked over toward the kids. Kagome crawled down the tree and jumped into Inuyasha's arms.

"What were you thinking? You could have gotten hurt up there." Inuyasha said.

"But I didn't did I?" She said. She waved her hand and the shield around the kids disappeared. They ran to their families.

"That was so cool how did you do that? Can you teach me how to do that? How come you never did it before? Why didn't you tell me? Who was that guy? What's the Shikon no Tama? What was that thing around us?" Inuki and Reiha asked.

Everyone looked at each other and laughed. "One question at a time." Kagome said.

Both the kids asked their questions at the same time again. No one could understand what they were asking. "Stop talking for a minute." Inuyasha said. When they stopped he said, "How about you let us rest for a little bit and we'll answer your questions later."

The kids nodded and went off to play. "I'm so tired it's been a long time since I've used my miko powers." Kagome said.

Everyone else nodded in agreement, except Inuyasha. He was always running around the forest killing youkai. He protected the village. "Go to sleep. You used a lot of power today." Inuyasha told her. "I'll watch Inuki and Shippo."

Kagome laid her head on Inuyasha's lap and took a nap.

"So anyone know what those things were?" Inuyasha asked.
