Chapter 8

Chase

"Kouga." Inuki shouted. He was going to run over to him but Kagome stopped him.

"Don't. Something's wrong." Kagome said. Kouga was growling loudly. His eyes were red. He had his claws ready to attack. "Kouga-kun?" She said. She flinched when he growled louder.

"What's wrong with him?" Sango asked.

"I don't know I've never seen him like this before." Miroku said.

"I don't think he's in the right in the head at the moment." Inuyasha said.

"I think he wants to fight." Sango said.

"What's wrong with him?" Inuki asked. "Kouga wouldn't want to hurt any of us."

Kagome looked sadly at Inuki. How was she going to explain to him that Kouga wasn't really Kouga right now? "Go stand with Reiha, Shippo, and Kohaku." She told him.

Inuki managed to get out of Kagome's arms. "No, there's nothing wrong with Kouga." He yelled and ran toward him.

"No." Kagome yelled. She ran after him. "It's not him right now."

Inuki was too fast for her. Inuyasha took off after him. He saw Kouga run toward Inuki. He could see in his eyes that he wasn't going to give him a hug. He ran even faster and grabbed Inuki.

He jumped back when Kouga slashed at him. Kagome ran up to them. "Don't come any closer." He said. "Inuki listen to me. Run to Kagome and don't turn back."

"But…" Inuki said.

"Don't argue with me just do it." He yelled. Inuki nodded and ran to her.

Kouga looked at him angrily. He snarled and flexed his claws. He ran behind Inuyasha with a lot of speed. He was as fast as he was when he had the jewel shards in his legs. Someone must have tricked him or taken over him.

He flew past Kagome and Inuki and headed for the rest of the group. Kagome threw up a shield around them. Kouga not realizing what she did ran into it. He was thrown about ten feet away from them.

He laid on the ground not moving. Everyone stayed where they were. Kagome let Inuki go. "Stay here and don't move." She told him. She slowly walked toward Kouga.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Inuyasha yelled at her.

"Sit." She said. "I'm going to check on him."

When she reached him she leaned down and shook him lightly. "Kagome." Inuyasha yelled from the ground.

"Sit." She said again. She shook Kouga a little more roughly this time. He groaned and opened his eyes. They weren't red anymore.

"Kagome?" He said. He pulled her down to his face and kissed her.

"KOUGA!" Inuyasha yelled. "You bastard."

Kagome pulled back quickly and hit him on the chest. "Don't do that." She said.

"Gomen I was just glad to see you're ok." He said. "I didn't hurt anyone did I?"

"No, what happened." Kagome asked. "Sit." She said. She sensed Inuyasha getting close.

"God dammit Kagome. Stop doing that I'm going to rip him apart." Inuyasha yelled.

Kouga sat up. "All I remember was I went hunting and a mist suddenly surrounded me. I could see flashes of what was happening but I couldn't control myself." He said. "Gomen."

"It's not your fault." Kagome said.

Inuyasha ran up behind him. He was about to hit him but Kagome sat him again. She got up and sat on his back. "Now you can't do anything unless you want to hurt me." She said.

"I might consider that. That son of a bitch kissed you. I'm not going to lay here and do nothing about it." He yelled.

"You wouldn't hurt me Inuyasha so don't kid yourself." Kagome said.

Inuyasha felt the spell wear off. He jumped really high so that Kagome flew in the air. He heard her screaming but ignored it. He kicked Kouga in the back of the head and caught Kagome when she came back down.

"I feel much better." He said. "You were right Kagome I wouldn't hurt you. There are ways where I wouldn't have to." He smirked.

"You jerk." Kagome said. She flicked his ear.

"That hurts you know." He said grabbing his ear.

"That's why I did it." She stuck her tongue at him.

"I hate to interrupt you guys but I have some questions for Kouga." Miroku said. When they stopped he asked, "Do you know who sent the mist?"

"No, I didn't sense, smell, or see anyone around." He said.

"What about your pack?" Sango asked.

"They weren't with me." He said. "Damn inukurro did you have to kick me so hard?" He rubbed his head.

"You're lucky I didn't do more." Inuyasha said. "Fucker kisses my mate."

"Watch your language." Kagome flicked his other ear.

"You're going to pay for that." Inuyasha said. He chased her around in a circle.

"You're all right now aren't you Kouga?" Inuki asked.

"Hai." Kouga said. "My head hurts from when your Oyaji kicked me."

"Oi, I heard that." Inuyasha said but continued to chase Kagome.

"Why did you kiss her?" Reiha asked.

"Well I like her." Kouga said. "I wanted her to be my mate but she chose inukurro over there." He pointed to Inuyasha.

"Oi, don't make me kick you ass." Inuyasha said still chasing Kagome.

"Language." Kagome yelled while running.

"I always told Okaa-san to choose you." Shippo sighed. "You're a lot nicer."

"Shippo!" Inuyasha yelled. He gave up on chasing Kagome and went after Shippo.

"I was just kidding." Shippo yelled.

"No you weren't, I remember you saying that." Inuyasha said.

"You guys certainly live interesting lives." Kouga said.

"Shouldn't you be getting to your pack?" Kagome asked. "I'm sure they are worried about you."

"No, not really. I usually disappear for a couple of days at a time." Kouga said.

"You mean you just leave without telling them?" Sango asked.

"Hai." Kouga said.

"How about we eat? All that running around made me hungry." Kagome said. Everyone agreed. "Kouga you can eat with us if you want." She said.

"No he can't." Inuyasha yelled.

"Don't listen to him he's just mad." Kagome said. "He hasn't taken his nap yet."

"Oi." Inuyasha yelled.

"Haha, Otou-san you need a nap." Shippo and Inuki taunted him.

"Damn kids." Inuyasha said. He chased after them.

"Puppy needs a nap." Reiha giggled.

"Just because you aren't my kid don't mean I won't get you either." Inuyasha yelled and chased all three kids around.

"He's energetic today." Kouga said.

"As long as it isn't me running around. I'm still tired from that last fight." Kagome said.

"What fight?" Kouga asked.

Sango and Miroku told him what happened. Kagome was too embarrassed to tell him what happened. All she did was protect her family and friends. She didn't want them to tell everyone about it.

"Wow you are powerful." Kouga said. "You're not one to be messed with."

"It's not like I'm going to hurt you." Kagome said.

"I know." Kouga said.

"I forgot I was going to cook." Kagome said. She boiled water for some ramen. "We're running out of ramen."

"WHAT?" Inuyasha, Inuki, and Shippo yelled.

"Nothing." Kagome said waving her hands in front of her face. "It's nothing."

They all looked at her accusingly but shrugged it off and sat down waiting for the food. Kagome handed everyone their ramen.

"So Kouga what are you going to do now?" Miroku asked.

"I figure I'll sleep in your camp for tonight and head back into my territory tomorrow." Kouga said.

"Great so now we're stuck with you for the night." Inuyasha said.

"Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"What?" He said. Kagome rolled her eyes.

"We might as well make camp where we are." Sango said.

"Good because I can't stay awake any longer." Kagome said. "I'm going to sleep early." She rolled out her sleeping bag and laid down. "Oyasumi."

A couple hours later everyone thought it was a good idea to go to sleep. They still needed to get home. They all missed sleeping in their own house. Sleeping under the stars was refreshing.

Everyone laid down and went to sleep. Inuyasha and Kouga were the last ones to fall asleep. They were both listening for any signs of danger. Inuyasha was still mad at Kouga.
