Chapter 13
A Mystery
Kagome woke up the next day a little less worried than before. It wasn't much but she believed Inuki and Shippo were ok. She got out of bed and went to cook breakfast. When she walked into the room Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango were already eating.
"Kagome we already have some food for you." Sango said.
"Arigato Sango." Kagome said. She sat down with them and ate. She didn't realize how hungry she was until she put the food in her mouth. She hadn't eaten since Inuki and Shippo were kidnapped.
"Have you guys found anything?" Inuyasha asked.
"No." Miroku said.
They all stayed silent. No one knew what to do or say. Inuyasha heard something outside. He got up to take a look. "Stay here." He said. When he walked outside he looked around. He couldn't see or smell anything.
An arrow flew past him and hit the side of the house. He looked where the arrow came from but the person who shot the arrow was gone. He pulled the arrow out of the wood. Attached to the arrow was a note. He walked back inside.
"What's wrong?" Kagome asked.
"Someone shot an arrow with this note." Inuyasha said. "I'm getting tired or arrows."
"What does the note say?" Kagome asked impatiently.
Inuyasha read it. He crumpled it up and threw it on the floor. "That fucker." He yelled.
"What? What's wrong?" Kagome panicked.
Inuyasha saw his mate's distress and hugged her. "The kidnapper just wants us to meet us." He said.
"What about Inuki and Shippo? Are they ok?" Kagome asked. She gripped his haori tight.
"The note says they're fine." Inuyasha said.
"We have to meet them." Kagome said.
"I know. I think it's a trap or something." Inuyasha said.
"I don't care." Kagome said. "I want my kids back."
"I know. I want them back too." Inuyasha said.
"We'll go with you." Miroku said.
"Hai." Sango said.
"What about Reiha?" Inuyasha asked.
"I'll stay with her."
Everyone turned to the door. Kohaku stood there with Kirara in his arms. He had been looking around for any signs of Inuki and Kohaku with the flying neko. "I'll watch her while you guys look for Inuki and Shippo. It'll be easier for you guys to fight without her there." Kohaku said.
"Arigato Kohaku." Sango said.
"When do we leave?" Miroku asked.
Inuyasha smiled. He was glad his friends wanted to help. "As soon as we're packed." He said.
Miroku and Sango nodded and went to their house to pack their things. About ten minutes later everyone was ready to leave. "Do you know where to go?" Miroku asked.
"Hai, we're supposed to head towards a village near Kouga's territory." Inuyasha said. "Then I'm supposed to follow Inuki and Shippo's scent."
"They've been this close to us all this time?" Kagome said.
"I wonder if Kouga ever got a whiff of their scent?" Sango said.
"I hope he didn't get hurt if he decided to go see them." Kagome said. She was tired of people getting hurt. She wanted to find out who was behind all this chaos and end it. She wanted her kids back.
They went to the village to tell Kaede they were leaving and why. They all said goodbye to Kohaku and Reiha. They were going to stay at Kaede's while they were gone.
"Aren't you going to tell your family your leaving for a while?" Sango asked Kagome.
"I don't want them to worry." Kagome said. "I'm sure we'll get them back. Besides I don't know if I can tell them without crying and I need to keep a clear head."
Sango nodded. Kagome got on Inuyasha's back and Miroku and Sango got on Kirara's back. They wanted to get there as quickly as possible. It would take them about two days to get there. (I don't know how long it would take so I made it up.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They stopped when it got too dark to travel. They pushed themselves more than usual. Everyone but Inuyasha was exhausted. They'd never traveled that much before. When Kirara got too tired to carry Miroku and Sango they all walked.
Before they went to sleep they ate. Kagome and Sango took a bath before turning in for the night. Inuyasha crawled in next to Kagome and nuzzled her neck. He didn't know what to say so he just comforted her with his touches.
They were all worried about what would happen when they met up with the kidnapper. No one even had the slightest clue at who it could be. All they knew is that they wanted Kagome dead. After a while they all fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day everyone woke up early. Even though their bodies wanted sleep they forced themselves up. They quickly ate and packed up camp and made their way to the village nearby.
No one had said a thing since they'd woken up. No one knew what to say. They were all nervous about what might happen. After a while Inuyasha smelt wolves. He stopped and stared at the space in front of him.
"What's wrong?" Kagome said.
"I smell wolves." He said.
"Is it Kouga-kun?" Kagome asked.
"No, they're from his pack though." Inuyasha said.
They soon came into view. Two wolves ran toward the group. When the wolves reached them Kagome recognized them. "Ginta, Hakkaku, what are you guys doing here?" Kagome asked.
"We came to ask if you've seen Kouga?" Ginta said.
"You mean he's gone?" Kagome asked.
"Hai, we haven't seen him in days." Hakkaku said.
"We saw him a while ago but he said he was going back." Sango said.
"He told us he always left without telling you guys. He said you were used to it." Miroku said.
"Hai, but he's never been gone for this long before." Ginta said. "He usually tells us and puts someone in charge if he's gone longer than two days."
"Do you think something happened to him?" Kagome asked. She remembered he left looking really guilty.
"I'm sure he's ok." Inuyasha said. "I don't know where he would go."
"We'll go then. We just wanted to know if you've seen him since he visits you often." Ginta said. Him and Hakkaku left.
"I doubt visiting once or twice a month is often." Kagome said. "I wonder where he is."
"I don't know but we're wasting time lets go." Inuyasha said. Once again everyone was on their way to the village.
A couple hours later and they made it to the village. They decided to stay in the village for the night to rest. If they had to fight the next day they wanted to be ready and awake for it.
They paid for a room because Miroku didn't think he could pull off his ominous cloud routine. They ate and went straight to bed. They wanted all the rest they could get. With them being so worried it would probably take a while to get to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day everyone ate quickly and packed up their things. They wanted to hurry up and get home. Sango and Miroku already missed Reiha and Kohaku.
They walked just outside the village. Inuyasha couldn't smell Inuki or Shippo's scent. Walking further away from the village they saw a forest. "Stay here I'm going to see if I can smell them." Inuyasha said.
He ran through the forest then stopped suddenly. He could smell it. It was faint but he could smell Inuki and Shippo's scent. That was it though. He couldn't smell the kidnapper or anything. They must have masked their scent.
Inuyasha ran back towards the group. "I smell them over there." He said and he pointed at the forest. "We have to be careful because I don't smell the kidnapper's scent at all."
"Lets go then." Miroku said.
Everyone waked through the forest. The deeper they went the heavier the kid's scent got. The bushed got thicker and thicker. Kagome got cuts all over her legs from the sharp twigs. She ignored the pain.
No one else had that problem because they were wearing long pants or robes. Kagome was stuck in some shorts. That's all she had with her besides a skirt. She definitely didn't want to fight in that.
Inuyasha smelt the blood coming from her legs. He bent down. "Get on my back." He said. Kagome hopped on his back and held on to him. Good thing her blood wasn't drowning out Inuki and Shippo's scent.
They stopped when they saw a little hut. "Inuki and Shippo's scent is coming from in there." Inuyasha said.
Kagome wanted to jump off Inuyasha's back and run in there but he squeezed her legs. He knew what she wanted to do but he didn't have a good feeling about this. He thought it might be a trap.
The wind blew hard. The rustling of the trees could be heard. They all got an eerie feeling from the wind. Nothing was happening yet. Inuyasha let Kagome down but held her hand to keep her from running into the hut.
An arrow came from out of nowhere and shot towards Kagome. Inuyasha pulled her out of the way in time. The only damage the arrow did was scratch Kagome's face. It wasn't a deep cut. "Itai." Kagome said as she brought a hand to the wound.
"Who's there?" Inuyasha yelled.
They heard movement. The kidnapper was coming from behind the hut. They could hear the footsteps of the person. They were all shocked when they saw who it was.
"K-Kikyo!" They all said at the same time.
