Chapter 17

A Death

Inuyasha looked to the ground. He stared in disbelief. No, this couldn't happen. He was watching her. He was protecting her. There she was on the ground she had been shot with an arrow, right below her heart.

"Kagome?" He said again.

"Inuyasha." She whispered before passing out. Inuyasha held onto her. Sango just watched in horror. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Kouga ran over to them he stood by Inuyasha.

Inuyasha stood and handed Kagome over to Kouga. "Watch her." He said. She was still alive, although she was holding on by a thread.

Inuyasha ran over to Kikyo and grabbed her by her throat with incredible speed. Even Kouga was in awe. "You can't kill me Inuyasha." Kikyo said.

"That's what you think." Inuyasha said. He ran a hand through her chest where her heart would've been if she had one. Kikyo opened her mouth in a silent scream. She crumbled in Inuyasha's grip.

He turned around finally satisfied with her death. The youkai around had long before run away. They could feel the anger coming off of him in waves. Knowing that sticking around would only ensure death they disappeared.

Inuyasha went over to Kouga and Sango and held Kagome in his arms again. "We need to clean her wound." He said.

"I'll get Miroku." Sango said.

"I'll go I can sniff him out and get him faster." Kouga said. He left as soon as he saw Sango's nod.

Inuyasha gently removed the arrow. His heart ached every time he heard her whimper from the pain. Even though she was unconscious she could still feel the pain. She was loosing too much blood.

Kouga came back later with everyone. Inuki and Shippo had practically leapt off of Kirara and landed beside their mother. Tears filled their eyes. They all knew there was no way for her to live. She had lost too much blood and she hadn't been in the best physical or emotional condition the last few days.

"We need to find Sesshomaru." Inuyasha said. The idea suddenly popped up in his head. He had the tensiega. He could revive her when she… he didn't even want to finish.

"What for?" Sango asked.

"Tensiega." Miroku said. Sango knew immediately. She tried to hold back the tears. She didn't want the kids to know about her. They didn't need to know she was going to die.

"How are we going to find him if we don't know where he is?" Sango asked.

"I'll have my wolves track him." Kouga said. He left before anyone could answer him. Kagome had forgiven him when he attacked. Even though it wasn't really him he couldn't forgive himself. But Kagome still did. This was the least he could do for her.

Everyone stayed silent while they walked. Inuki and Shippo would sniffle every once in a while. They were trying not to cry. Inuyasha just held Kagome to him. He didn't know what else to do. He didn't want to believe she was dying.

They made camp when it got too dark to see. They walked as much as they could in the direction they'd seen him last time. It had worked in the past so it should work now. That's what they all kept hoping.

Kagome hadn't moved at all. She was barely breathing. Everyone went to sleep early so they could get an early start. They didn't know how long Kagome would hold out. Or how long they had until she couldn't be revived anymore.

Inuyasha didn't go to sleep at all. He refused to be sleep while she was alive. He didn't know how much time she had left. By the smell and look of her she only had a couple of hours to live.

A while later Inuyasha heard her breath hitch in her throat and then she stopped breathing. He couldn't hear her heart beat anymore. He hugged Kagome to him and inhaled her scent.

He wrapped her in a blanket. He didn't want anyone to see her like this. They could see her when she was revived. He refused to let her stay the way she was now. This was the jewels fault.

Everything that's happened to him since he met Kikyo was the jewel's fault. Kikyo died, he was pinned to a tree, Kagome falling through the well, Shippo's parent's death, Kikyo's revival, Sango's village destroyed, and all the innocent lives that were taken. Everything was the jewel's fault. He would destroy the jewel with Kagome if it was the last thing he did.

The next morning everyone woke up. They went to check up on Kagome and see how she was doing. Inuyasha shook his head as he held her in his arms. Everyone but Inuki and Shippo kept their tears in.

They kept them in because there was a chance that she would live. If they could find Sesshomaru and convince him to use his sword. That would be the hardest part.

They all packed up camp and were on the move as quick as possible. Hope was restored when Kouga showed up. "My wolves have found him. He's not too far from here." He said. "Is she…?" He started.

Inuyasha cut him off. "Lets go I don't want to lose his trail." He said. Luck was on his side. He figured he'd would have to spend days searching for him.

They traveled for hours pushing themselves to get to him as fast as they could. When they finally got to him no one knew what to say. How do you ask the most coldest unemotional person in the world to revive his little half brother's mate?

"What is it that you want this time Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Kagome." He said. "She's died."

"What do you want me to do?" Sesshomaru asked.

"You know what I want you to do. I want you to use your fucking sword and revive her." Inuyasha said.

"What's in it for me?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Sesshomaru how could you be so cold?" Rin yelled. She ran over to Inuyasha. She couldn't believe Kagome was dead.

"I'll do whatever the fuck you want." Inuyasha said. Tears streamed down his face for the first time in his life. "I'll give you the tetsusaiga. I don't care. I just want her back."

By this time everyone was in tears. As soon as Inuyasha broke down they couldn't hold it back anymore. They were so shocked that he was crying that they hadn't even realized tears were streaming down their cheeks.

"Please use the tensiega." Inuyasha said. "I can't live without her."

Sesshomaru listened to his brother's plea. He considered it for a while but what really made him do it was because of Rin. Seeing her in tears broke his heart and he couldn't understand why.

Sesshomaru pulled out his sword. "Set her on the ground." He said.

Inuyasha didn't want to even let her go. He listened to him and set her down. He closed his eyes as Sesshomaru swung the sword. "She'll wake in a few moments but she'll be weak." Sesshomaru said.

"Thank you." Inuyasha said.

"Don't thank me I did it for Rin." He said.

Rin ran up to Sesshomaru and kissed him on the cheek. "Arigato." She said not even realizing what she'd just done. She'd just run back to Kagome to wait until she woke up.

Sesshomaru was stunned. Never had anyone been so bold to even approach him like that let alone kiss his cheek. Of course Rin wasn't just anyone. She was the young girl that had changed him. Slowly of course but he was changing for the better.

Everyone sat down impatiently around Kagome. They were waiting for her to wake up. Inuyasha was becoming restless. He wanted to beat the shit out of Sesshomaru for lying. `A few minutes my ass.' He thought. As much as he wanted to yell out in frustration he held Kagome hoping she would wake soon.
