InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ December ❯ Chapter 2

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

ACK!!!!!!!!!! I forgot the disclaimer!!! Sorry sorry sorry! Here it is, hope I'm not too late…: I don't own Inuyasha or any of the characters in this story, or Linkin Park's My December…no, I just use them for my own perverse little pleasure…so please, don't sue me!! Ok, now that that is over, on to the story…..

This is my December
These are my snow covered trees
This is me pretending
This is all I need

“Shippo, I just remembered, I have some extra chocolate for you, but I left it at home. Let me go and get it for you, ok? Tell Sango and Miroku where I've gone for me, and I'll be right back.” Kagome implored, wanting to distract the child from having to wonder about why she was suddenly leaving. Shippo, always ready for more sweets, happily smiled before going to play with the rest of the children. Thanking whoever was listening for Shippo's sweet tooth, Kagome followed the path Inuyasha had taken, wanting to be there for the final showdown.

As she went, her mind made up all sorts of scenarios as to what might be happening. Would she have to save Inuyasha from being sucked into hell? She kinda hoped so; he was always saving her from things, and now it would be her turn. Or would he be able to talk himself out of his promise, allowing him to live with her without having to constantly watch his back? Whatever it was, she would stand beside him and offer him all the love and support she had finally been able to show. She slowed her pace when she heard voices, not wanting to burst through the bushes and surprise them. However, getting closer, she was able to understand what was being said and was frozen to the spot by what she heard.

And I
Just wish that I didn't feel like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said to make you feel like that
And I
Just wish that I didn't feel like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said to you

“I wish you hadn't died and Kagome was never born. That we could go back to how things were before this all started. Where I would gladly turn human for you and we could have a family and a home; where we would never have to worry about all the shit that happened. We would grow old together and then die together. It would be a very good life and I would be content.”

“We can, Inuyasha, we can. All you have to do is ask the girl for the jewel, and then wish it to be true. I could have my soul back, and it would be as if I had never died.”

“Take the jewel from Kagome? I suppose I could do that. She might give it to me. She loves me, you know.” He mused. “She admitted it before we killed Naraku. Said she wanted me to know just in case something happened before she was able to tell me.”

Kikyou scoffed. “She loves you? Ha! It's not her; it is the remaining part of my soul that loves you. She only thinks it is her heart that feels the way it does. I never stopped loving you. It is my feelings for you that she believes are her own. Noting more. Take back the jewel, wish for my return to life and set her free to love on her own.”

“But wouldn't that kill her?” Inuyasha asked.

“Perhaps. But will we know unless we really try? We-”

That was as far as Kagome could get. With tears and pain blurring her vision, she spun on her heel and took off towards the village. Half way there, she changed direction and headed straight for the well. Reaching it, she didn't even pause to stop before vaulting herself over the lip and hurtling herself into the darkness. Upon landing in her time, she brokenly made her way out before collapsing into tears that wracked her entire form. How…how could he? She…I…NO!! It is my love. It's not her past feelings for him…I do, I really do love him…he can't believe what she says, can he? Totally unable to make sense of what had happened, she had sat there, just staring at the wall, her mind blank. And then, he had come. He had looked so happy and eager but there was a little bit of fear and worry mixed in as well…

Lying on her bed, her head pillowed on her arms, Kagome snorted. Probably just wanted to ask for the jewel. Probably afraid that I wouldn't give it to him. I bet he's heading back to her right now…they're making their wish and then they're gonna get married and then…and then… Tears leaked out from the corners of her eyes again, making her already wet shirt even more salty. Remembering it all now just made it even more painful. After entering the house, she had run into her room, not even pausing to say hello to her family. When she reached her bed, she had flung herself onto it and once again cried her self out. Once there were no more tears, she had dried sobbed until her eyes and throat burned with the effort. Now she lay, totally lifeless, all her energy sapped by her emotional upheaval.

Did he really think that what she felt was just the leftovers from Kikyou? Was he just waiting for her to come before asking for the jewel? Was that why he didn't say he loved her back? But that couldn't be it, could it? She thought he loved her too, or at least, he acted like he did. Sometimes he would look at her a certain way, or do something so sweet and caring that she just knew he had to feel something for her…but she was wrong, wasn't she? All he was doing was being nice to her so she would give him the jewel.

Suddenly she was filled with anger, sitting up she punched her pillow with all her might, imagining it was a certain silver haired person.“That bastard! Getting all chummy with me only to totally dupe me. What a loser I must have looked to him. I bet they're laughing at me right now, `Oh stupid, silly little Kagome! How stupid she must be to think that I would love her back'! Yeah, well…” she could fee the tears again clogging her throat and pushing against the back of her eyes. Her sorrow and pain once again pushing away her rising anger. “I'm not stupid. Is it stupid to love someone? To do what you can to make them happy, no matter the cost to you? Well…when you put it that way Kagome, it sure as hell does.” She sat there, just contemplating when her door suddenly burst open and a little body tackled her to the floor.

“KAGOME!! You're back!! Mom was so worried that you wouldn't make it! But she made you dinner just in case you were alive…oh, that didn't sound right. But anyways, it's a victory dinner. You did win, right? How was it? And where's Inuyasha? Mom made enough for him too. When you ran up here we all thought something was wrong, but you're ok so they'll be happy. So com'on, com'on, let's go already, mom wouldn't let us eat until you got home. Thank god you did, I was about to starve! Oh, wait, that doesn't sound right either.” By then Sota was pulling her up and to the door, anxious to get to the table and eat.

Kagome found herself smiling at her brothers antics and marveling at the leaps and bounds that little boy's minds made. Momentarily distracted form her dark thoughts, she allowed herself to be pulled, poked and prodded down the stairs and into the kitchen. There her mother and grandfather waited with tense and waiting smiles. When she appeared, they broke down in tears and hugged her tight; thanking all the gods they knew for her safe return.

“Come Kagome, let's eat. And where's Inuyasha?” her mother asked, pushing her daughter into her chair. “I made enough for him as well. I would have thought he would have come back with you.”

Kagome swallowed painfully, determined not to cry in front of them, she answered in as calm and light of voice as she could, “Well, I think he's back at the village, probably celebrating.” When they seemed to buy it, she breathed a sigh of relief.

“Well, that's fine, but be sure to have him come over soon, I want to hear all about this battle you said you were going to have.”

Dinner was just getting started when it was interrupted by the slamming of the front door and a roar that seemed to shake the house.

“KAGOME!!” In the next second, she found herself reliving the moment when Inuyasha had first met her family. Slamming the door open, he stood framed in the opening, his beads and the jewel still clutched in his hand. She felt a little thrill go through her at the sight but before she could open her mouth to speak, she found her ears bombarded by his fierce shout.

“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?!?!”

And I give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to
Give it all away
To have someone to come home to
