Chapter 1

It was a dark night in the feudal era and very quiet. It nerved Kagome about the silence, but she didn’t speak upon it; she could tell her comrades thought the same, but neither spoke as well. They were sitting around a large campfire enjoying a delicious meal that Kagome had prepared, excluding Inuyasha who was sitting next to a large tree seemingly in a daze. Kagome watched him with a keen eye wondering what could be bothering him. They had finally defeated Naraku, but it seemed as if Inuyasha still had a lot on his mind. ‘I wonder what it could be?’ she thought to herself, but she pushed it to the back of her mind as she looked across the fire to Miroku who gazed at his right hand with a frown. “Is something wrong hoshi?” Sango asked.

Miroku’s frown only deepened as he looked up at her and sighed. “No, it just seems weird with my wind tunnel gone. How will I be able to fight countless herds of youkai without it?” Kagome gazed sympathetically at him and a small smile played across her lips. “Don’t worry Miroku. You’ll get used to not having it. Plus you’re a very good fighter without it.” she said reassuringly. His frown faltered somewhat, but his gaze still returned back to his right hand.

As it grew later, everyone began to settle down for rest. Kagome took the opportunity to approach Inuyasha at his place high above in the branches where he chose to sleep. “Want some company?” she called up to him. She heard the rustling of leaves before he jumped down, wrapped his arms around her waist, and hopped back into the tree. Kagome settled down next to him and pulled her knees up to her chin. “Is anything wrong Inuyasha? You’ve been awfully quiet this evening.” Inuyasha continued to stare ahead thoughtfully. Kagome sighed in defeat and gazed out over the dark horizon as well.

“I have to keep my promise.”

Kagome turned her dark brown eyes to him in question. “What promise.” Inuyasha sighed then, and looked down at the ground below. “My promise to Kikyou.” Kagome’s eyes widened slightly. She had forgotten all about it and presumed he had as well. She was wrong. They both sat in silence for a moment each lost in their thoughts of what was to come now that the jewel was complete. ‘I guess that now since its complete I have to return to my own time. I mean, what’s left for me here if Inuyasha goes with Kikyou to hell?’

Unwanted tears filled her eyes at the thought of leaving him forever. Inuyasha turned his amber eyes to her in mild concern. “Kagome?” he asked. Kagome smiled and shook her head. “Its nothing. Just thinking.” Inuyasha continued to look at her for a moment then looked back into the sky. “Keh.”

After a short time of silence Kagome looked back to Inuyasha and admired how he looked in the moonlight and the way his hair fluttered in the wind because of the small breeze. And the way his amber eyes glistened in the light blankly. She admired him, but was afraid to reveal her feelings towards him especially now that he was leaving. “You ready to go to bed?” he asked breaking into her thoughts. Kagome snapped her gaze back up to him before she lightly nodded. Without another word Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her waist and jumped to the ground, releasing her, before bounding back into the tree.

Kagome stood for a moment gazing into it before she went inside their makeshift tent and laid down on her outspread sleeping bag. Upon hearing her return, Shippo slipped away from Sango’s mat and curled up next to Kagome, who pulled her sleeping bag open to allow him entrance. As she ran her finger through the kitsune’s hair she closed her eyes and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

********************************************** ********************************

The next morning she was awaken to the smells of fish and slowly sat up. She looked around the tent at her sleeping comrades before quietly getting up and exiting the tent. “You’re up awfully early,” she said to the hanyou as he sat gutting and cutting the fish he had caught. “Couldn’t sleep,” he mumbled. Kagome frowned sighed irritably before grabbing her bag from the tent and began walking away. “Where the hell are you going?” Kagome turned to Inuyasha and exhaled. “To take a bath if you don’t mind.” Inuyasha growled. “Well hurry up! We need to get going back to the village so we can purify the jewel.” Kagome’s frown deepened. “You’re just hurrying back so you can get back to Kikyou. I’m not dumb Inuyasha, I know she’s there waiting for you.”

He looked away from her and continued his work with the fish. ‘Figures,’ Kagome thought angrily as she practically ran towards the nearby river.

Once she had removed her uniform and underwear, she stepped into the cold water and wadded her way into the middle. “Its going to feel so good stepping into a warm shower once I get home,” she thought to herself. She swam around a bit, never noticing the pair of red eyes watching her beyond the river. It wasn’t until a twig snapped that she became aware. “Who’s there?” she said standing up and wrapping her arms around her naked breast. “I know someone’s there! Show yourself!” she called.

Suddenly in a flash a large panther youkai leapt into the river and wrapped his hand around her neck; hoisting her out of the water. “Aw! A fresh human girl. I haven’t had a descent meal in a moment so you’ll most certainly have to do,” he hissed. Kagome grabbed at his clawed hand and gagged. She could feel his claws sinking into her flesh! “H-help...Inu-yasha,” she choked.

Elsewhere Inuyasha was sitting atop the tree he had slept in, as the others ate the fish, when he caught the scent of fear and small traces of blood. ‘Kagome.’ Without a word to his friends, Inuyasha leapt from his tree and bounded down the path in which Kagome took to the river.

Upon his arrival he was met with a panther demon holding Kagome’s naked form within his grasp. “Let her go you piece of shit!!” he growled. The panther turned his gaze to the hanyou as Kagome continued to struggle. “Do you think you...a mere hanyou can destroy me the great Panther demon? HAHA!!” the demon laughed. Inuyasha growled louder and unsheathed the Tetsuiga. “Laugh all you want you bastard, but I will not let you harm Kagome!!” he yelled. “Kize no Kizu!!!” Kagome screamed as the youkai flung her into the river, as he dodged Inuyasha’s attack

The demon hissed at Inuyasha before charging him. He tried to swipe Inuyasha with his claws, but Inuyasha jumped away and blocked the demons next attack with his tetsuiga. “Kagome!” he cried as the woman was swept down river only to be stopped by a rock that she immediately clung to. “Inuyasha! Help me!!” she begged. Inuyasha turned back to the youkai he was fending off and growled. “Damn it!” he growled. The panther youkai chuckled as he brought up his other paw and tore into Inuyasha’s side with his claws. The hanyou cried out in pain and jumped away, kneeling on the ground in pain. The demon flexed his claws and dove at Inuyasha for another attack.

“Hiraikotsu!”

The panther demon halted its attack as the large boomerang flew violently in front of him. “Damn you wench!” the panther growled as Sango grabbed her hiraikotsu in mid air from Kirara’s back. Inuyasha saw his chance as the youkai was distracted and tried his ‘Kize no Kizu’ again. The youkai saw it coming and dodged it yet again. “Shit!” Inuyasha bellowed. Sango threw her hiraikotsu at the youkai again, but he dodged it as well just before his feet hit the ground and lunged at Sango, ready to dig his claws into her. Kirara moved away from the youkai’s attack just in time. ‘I’ll try my adamant barrage this time,’ Inuyasha said to himself as the tetsuiga began to crystallized. “Time to die you bastard. Adamant Barrage!!!” he yelled sending hundreds of adamant shards towards the youkai.

The youkai grunted as the shards flew through his body and screamed in agony before he disintegrated. Inuyasha smirked in triumph, but it was short lived as he heard the scream of Kagome once again. “Inuyasha!” she cried just before a large wave swept over the rock sending her underneath the rapids. “Kagome!!” Inuyasha yelled before sheathing the tetsuiga and jumping into the water after her.

Sango and Kirara watched helplessly as their friend dove into the river to save the other. They sat for a couple of minutes, but Kagome nor Inuyasha broke through the surface. ‘Hurry Inuyasha.’

Kagome grunted as she was swept deeper and deeper into the river by the current. Finally, she couldn’t hold her breath any longer; and began taking in water. Before she went completely unconscious, she caught sight of Inuyasha swimming towards her before she fell into darkness.

Inuyasha growled to himself as his hand latched on to the unconscious girl’s wrist and he began swimming back to surface before he too ran out of breath. As he burst forth he began swimming towards shore with the limp girl in tow. When he arrived, Sango was already waiting for him and helped him to lay the still girl upon the bank. “She’s not breathing,” Sango panicked. Inuyasha panted before he moved over Kagome. Her lips were blue and her face deathly pale, and knew they needed to think of something and fast to give Kagome breath.

“Tilt her head back!” Inuyasha instructed. Sango did as he asked and tilted Kagome’s head back. Inuyasha parted her lips and plugged her nose before leaning over and placing his mouth upon hers and breathing air into her lungs. He leaned back and placed his head upon her chest to see if she was breathing. Nothing. He tried again. He placed his head upon her chest again, but once again he was met with no rise or fall of her chest. “Shit! She took in too much water!” he exclaimed before covering her mouth with his again.

Sango sat, nearly to tears, as the hanyou frantically tried to revive her friend. “Don’t you die on us Kagome!” she begged. Inuyasha ignored her as he placed his head on her chest again. Once again hearing nothing placed his mouth over hers again. He would die from the lack of oxygen before he let her go.

Her body suddenly convulsed and water began leaking from her lips. She then started coughing and sputtering up water. “Oh, thank Kami. Kagome?” Kagome only inhaled and exhaled deeply before her teeth began to chatter. “She’s freezing,” Sango announced. Inuyasha hurriedly removed his haori and wrapped it around Kagome’s shaking form. “Come on. Lets get her back to camp. We need to get her back to the village quickly,”Inuyasha commanded. Sango nodded and proceeded in gathering the girls clothing while Inuyasha lifted the girl into his arms bridal style and began running back towards camp.

Kagome shivered against Inuyasha and buried her face into his chest. It felt like someone had dropped her into an freezer and left her in there for a long time. Inuyasha, in seeing her condition, brought her as closer to his body emitting as much warmth as he could. When they arrived back to camp, Miroku and Shippo already had everything packed so he informed them that they would need to hurry to Kaede’s village. Upon seeing the young maidens condition, Miroku and Shippo made no arguments and climbed onto Kirara’s back as the tojikin and demon arrived.

They traveled in a quick pace and Inuyasha’s guess was that if they kept it up they would arrive at the village in no less than hour. Kirara had taken to the air and Inuyasha to the trees as they made haste to get the young miko help.

Well that’s the end of this chapter next one should be up soon.
