InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Demons in Disguise ❯ Invisible Forces ( Chapter 23 )
As soon as they had exited the house Sesshou zoomed blindly through streets and neighborhoods. He was too fast for anyone to even notice he had ever even been there. Soon he was zipping through a park. Finally, Sesshou stopped at the base of a cherry tree. He let Rin down before slumping back against the trunk staring blankly out at the ground in front of him.
Rin looked up and saw the tiny cherry buds were beginning to blossom. Then she looked out on the setting sun and the many different colors in the sky. She was sorry that Mr. Takamura had died, and of course preferred that Sesshou hadn't murdered him. But she did not hold any resentment on her beloved. Besides, it was obvious that Sesshou was resenting himself enough for the both of them.
"Sesshou?" she called softly. He didn't avert his eyes from the ground. Rin frowned and leaned down next to him. She touched the bullet wound on his shoulder. It had stopped bleeding and was beginning to heal amazingly fast. Sesshou hardly reacted when she removed the blood splattered jacket he was still wearing. Since Sesshou's shirt was already red, it was hard to tell wear the hole was.
"Sesshou, are you going to say anything?"
He didn't respond. Rin sighed and leaned against his arm watching the sun set.
"I don't hate you for what you did, Sesshou," she told him. "You did what you had to do. It only proves how much you love me. I didn't love my foster parents. I don't love anyone, only you. So why should I care what happens to the rest of the world? As long as you're here with me. I don't care how many people you kill. I will remain at your side. Always and always."
She stroked his arm and looked up at his eyes that were still plastered to the ground. Rin was starting to become slightly annoyed.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" she frowned. "Listen, I've had enough of this pity party. You can't undo what you've already done. So just get a grip!"
She stood and glared down at him. Finally, Sesshou stirred and dropped his head a little more.
"My apologies, Rin, my love," he said. "I realize that what I did, although tragic, can't be reversed. It warms me to hear that you'll never leave my side, but it's not just the recent events that have me so depressed."
"Well what is it then?" Rin said, more compassionately. Sesshou sighed heavily. He lifted his face so that Rin could see, and she gasped.
"The markings," Sesshou rubbed his cheek. "They're still there."
Rin reached down and touched the magenta stripes still present on his cheek, she brushed the blue moon on his forehead, and Sesshou pulled back his sleeve so that Rin could see the strips around his wrist.
"I didn't know," Rin sympathized. She bit her lip and threw her arms around his neck.
"Don't fret, my dear," Sesshou lifted her chin and smiled. "This is a confusing time for both of us. We still have our love."
Rin wiped a tear from her eye and forced a smile. She examined the flecks of silver shimmering in her love's hair. Once again, a similar face of her Ivory Prince flashed in her mind. She leaned up and kissed his cheek, the spots where the magenta stripes were buzzed with warmth. Sesshou pulled her to his chest and rested his cheek on her lovely onyx hair.
"I love you so much," Rin hummed. "Lord Sesshoumaru."
Sesshou froze and pulled her back a second, his eyes baffled.
"Wha…What did you just call me?" he asked urgently. Rin blinked, obviously oblivious to her mistake.
"I called you 'Sesshou', of course," she answered.
"No, you called me 'Sesshou-maru'."
"I…I did, didn't I?" Rin's eyes widened. "'Sesshoumaru'…Where have I heard that name before? It's so similar to yours."
"I've heard it before, too," he added. Rin put her finger to her lips and thought deeply.
'Sesshoumaru', 'Sesshoumaru'. Where have I heard that? It's painfully familiar! Think, Rin, think, she pondered. Where have you heard that name…'Sesshoumaru'…
Without warning, Rin felt something in the air. Something pulling her body to a world she once was. Something nearby. In a dream-like state Rin stood, her eyelids half closed.
"Rin, what are you doing?" Sesshou wondered. Rin showed no response as she turned and began walking in the direction of the park exit. Sesshou caught up with her quickly and stood in front of her.
"Where are you going? Answer me! Rin?"
Rin moaned and tried to walk around Sesshou but he grabbed her arm.
"Are you okay?! Rin, stop this!"
She looked back at her lover and locked him in a deep gaze. Sesshou saw something deep in her pupils. He saw discovery and longing. There was somewhere that Rin wanted to go; needed to go. He hesitated, but he then released her arm.
"Okay, my dear. I trust you."
Rin resumed her walk dreamily. Something had trapped her in a lasso of longing and was tugging her along. She didn't struggle, instead she embraced it. Sesshou followed close behind as Rin exited to park and strolled along the sidewalk. He wasn't sure how long or how far they walked. It could've been anywhere between 5 minutes to 5 years. Soon they were walking along the road with bushes lining one side of the sidewalk.
Rin finally stopped at the gate, behind which was a long cement staircase. Sesshou saw this and halted Rin's trek.
"This is private property, Rin. We can't just waltz up there," Sesshou emphasized. "Besides, I think I've heard about this place before. It's some sort of shrine."
Rin remained in her sleep-walk and moaned again signaling her yearning to enter. After a moment of reluctance, Sesshou stepped aside.
"Fine, but don't expect me to kill anyone if they bust us for trespassing," he grinned.
