Chapter six. Memories
Kagome felt safe in his care, afterall, he is the closest being to Inu Yasha. Ever since she went inside his castle, she was silent, he could only do so much to comfort her, pity consumed his cold heart and warmed it. He himself couldn't believe that his own little brother had died, after 60 some years of rivalry, it finally ended. Shippou was the only one near her at the time, he fell asleep in Kagome's arms crying with her, Sesshomaru frowned at the sight, and closed the door. He leaned against the wall and went into deep thinking, reminiscing about Inu Yasha, and him. About their childhood past. He still remembers the day he first met his younger sibling...
(flashback)
"Sesshomaru, my son...soon you will become ruler of all the western lands. No matter, do not go in fear that you will not inheret my place. for you have...a sibling....." The Great western demon calmly stated.
Sesshomaru looked at his father emotionlessly, just like his father looked at him, "What....?........who is this younger sibling of mine.....how could you have...." Sesshomaru did not finish the sentence, for he knew that it was disrespectful to the great lord, and his father. But it was very curious to him, because that his mother had died long ago already, about 4 years ago. Has father claimed another demon?
Sesshomaru knew so much, he was still a young demon, about 23 years old in human years, barely a year old in demon years.
"Sesshomaru, " his father started, "meet your step-mother, and your sibling, Inu Yasha..." The lord stepped aside, out came a woman from the shadows, she was fairly beautiful, dark hair and brown eyes, and her lips were as red as blood. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at her, he was almost growling. She was a human, a mere human, and his father mated with her anyway, what a hypocrite he thought. Betraying his beliefes. How could his father have mated with a human? The scent make him sick, but he smelled another scent too, a scent, related to his and his father's blood. A pair of cat ears popped out from behind the human female. Amber eyes like his own peeked at him and withdrew again. It was Inu Yasha, the hanyou brother his father was talking about, the half breed.
"....." Sesshomaru scowled, "This.........she is a human......"
"I understand what you are feeling now....but my son, if only you can take in the emotion....to actually....care...." his father stood next to his mate as if he was proud. The amber eyes peeked at Sesshomaru again, this time, Inu Yasha slowly krept out, and looked up at him. The western lord put his hand on top of Inu Yasha's head claiming his son, "The hanyou is still young, I rely on you to take care of him. Teach him the meaning of the world."
"What are you thinking father?....he is a half breed, his life will be miserable, he could at least be a full demon, or even a full human, but not a hanyou. Their will be no place for him in the world." He coldly hissed out watching the young halfling figet around.
"..and that is why I can count on you my eldest son, to help make a place for him, help him find a reason to live...."
Sesshomaru was a bit angered, the human stayed silent, but a tear dropped from her cheeks. Sesshomaru didn't seem to care, he knew she knew what he meant...there will be no place for him in world.
************************(another flash)
The princess watch her son play in the medows, chasing a butterfly, running happily. But she could not smile. It was his words, she knew she had to face the reality of it all.....but it's so hard to live with.
Inu Yasha ran and ran, suddenly, he started to lose balance, and fell down, letting the butterfly get away...He pulled his small body up and dusted himself off. Then a darkness hovered over him, he hesitantly looked up, it was Sesshomaru, standing in front of him showing no emotion as usual.
"Inu Yasha........" he mumbled, "come with me..." Sesshomaru started to walk away, Inu Yasha scratched his head and caught up with the prince. His mother stood by and watched. She admitted she was a bit worried for her son's safety, she had doubts that he would leave Inu Yasha unharmed, but still watched from a distance.
The two brothers settled by the river, Sesshomaru stood near it, his hair blowing in the wind, he was like portrait, "Little brother, do you know who you are..?..."
Inu Yasha pointed to himself and looked up at Sesshomaru curiously.
"Do you not speak.?"
Inu Yasha looked back down and nodded, "I....I'm........Inu Yasha.........."
"You know that you are a demon, and human.......I do not think you know how this can effect your life..."
Inu Yasha still kept silent.
"You know of our father?.....correct?"
".....n-no.......not....really........." he mumbled.
Sesshomaru looked down at him and spoke, "I shall tell you, our father, he is the Lord of the western lands, a full, blooded dog demon. No such demon can ever compare to him....and I, his eldest son is soon to be taking place......but I still cannot compare to his power. No matter what, as strong as any creature thinks they are, they'll never have enough power...and you.......what do you think?.........if i can't reach to his limits, you can never....your hardly a demon.......just a mere half breed.....there is no place in the world for you.....where ever you turn there will be no way.......everthing is meant to be born one race......demon, or human. Do you think you fit in those catagories?"
Inu Yasha shook his head lightly, "....no......"
"Which side is stronger.........you should know as well as I that demons, like my father and I, are well above any human. But you....you are neither......what will you do Inu Yasha?.....you know the truth now...." Sesshomaru looked up again, "and you human......what do you intend to do...?....how will you take care of the hanyou....."
Inu Yasha's mother cried as silent as possibly, but of course the prince could hear and smell her tears. She wanted to stop him from talking, but it was the truth, she was in such anguish, nothing could wake her. Inu Yasha turned around and found his mother leaning against the tree, crying. He quickly got up and ran to her, she embraced him tightly.
"Inu Yasha.......Inu Yasha..........I'm so sorry..........so sorry....."she cried.
Inu Yasha was confused, "There......will be no place.........for me?...."
Sesshomaru looked at the two and easily turned to leave., he wasn't lying, only pointing out the truth. He knew no one can ever hide the truth, his father taught him.
(End of Flashback)
And now.....64 years later......Inu Yasha winds up dead. But he has learned a lesson in his life. He learned about true love, and how to care for others instead of himself. Sesshomaru had to admit, he cared before he even knew. He cared about his little brother for a long time already. All those times he had the chances to kill him, he stopped, and left.
Sesshomaru didn't notice the physical pain anymore, he was too much in thought. A shifting noise starttled him, he was on alert, but it was only Kagome opening the door. He calmed down, "Why are are you up, you really should get back in...."
"I can't stay any longer......." she replied, "I need to avenge Inu Yasha, I can't rest until I know the one who took his life gets theirs taken away too....."
"No.....your just a human...do you really think you can defeat the hanyou Naraku...?"
"....." she took a deep breath, "...I can try......and if I die....it doesn't matter, but I have to kill Kikyo no matter what..."
"Let me handle this..."
"NO......you can't fight my fights for me, this is my own problem." she was about to leave when Sesshomaru grabbed her shoulders, ".....Sesshomaru..........you can't stop me....I don't want to hurt you...."
Sesshomaru was a bit surprised, "I'm afraid that I was supposed to say that...."
"You don't understand.....I.....can't rest at all..." she started to cry, her voice started breaking, ".......not until I see that bitch dead for good....." he felt the anger rise inside her, "I want her to die! you can't understand what I'm going through right now! I loved him so, much....." she calmed down, Sesshomaru held her close, very close. His embrace left her speechless.
"Do not worry......I do, sometimes....rest uneasy.....I admit.....I care........for my...sibling..." he let go and looked at her tear-filled eyes, "I will avenge his death for you....it will make us both rest well......." . Then, she couldn't move at all, he had bent closer to place a kiss on her forehead...as strange as it seems...this was like something he would do right now, "You will be protected, Kagome-chan...."
Kagome gasped, he said her name and he called her chan! Brothers really do relate...
In a quick motion, Sesshomaru caught a blade, Kagome cringed onto him, she turned around, no one was there.
"Can I help you?..." He asked.
No response.
"What....?" she looked up at him, but he was serious, so she kept quiet.
"Hn....." a female voice echoed.
Kagome again turned around, this time, she gasped, then gritted her teeth when she saw the sorceress in front, "Kagura!."
"In the flesh, back away from him..." she commanded.
"Why must you keep bothering me.." Sesshomaru said in an annoyed tone, "I have already given you what you want, now leave before I kill you.."
*Oop.......back to his usual self I see...* Kagome thought, one minute he was the nicest guy, the next, he most feared demon of the western plains.
"I don't think you would want to do that....." said another voice, they both turned around, it was Kasuga, she held the sleeping Shippou in her arms.
Kagome gasped again, "NO! Leave him out of this! please! I beg you!"
"Shhh....." Kasuga hushed, "You'll wake him..." she taunted.
Kagome dropped onto the floor and cried, "no! please......you can't....give him back to me!"
"Stupid bitch." Kagura hissed, "do you really think it's that easy?...We want something from you."
"Take the fucking jewel shard! I just want Shippou! Give him back!"
"Whoa....what kind of mother are you....tsk, tsk, tsk....cussing in front of children..." Kasuga grinned, "but fine.....we'll give the little rat back to you on one condition.."
"What..." Sesshomaru asked.
"If...The western lord could kindly follow us..." Kagura finished.
"Fine."
"What? no! Sesshomaru....." Kagome looked up at him, "you can't! not for me!"
He did not respond.
"Good, now come with us.." Kagura and Kasuga dissapeared in the wind dropping Shippou to the ground, he still didn't wake up.
Kagome gasped and scrambled over to pick him up," Shippou! Shippou-chan! wake up!"
".....mm......Ka.....gome....." he mumbled.
"What did they do to you?!"
"...Mmm.m...."
"Shippou??..." she out her hand gentally on his forehead, he was stirring up a fever, "no..no...nono......not you too....don't leave me Shippou-chan.."
"I...I'm.....so cold....." he shivered, but he was actually sweating.
"..This is a spell......they must have somehow got a hold of this type of poison and used it..." Sesshomaru said.
"No....Shippou....I...I....sorry for planning to leave.....this would have never happened...."
"Hm.." Sesshomaru moved away from her and disappeared into the shadows.
Kagome turned around to see no one behind her, "Sesshomaru! don't leave me!"
"I will be back shortly.."

"Tch....it's about time....what took so long?" Kasuga crossed her arms, Sesshomaru didn't responded.
"Enough talk, let's go." Kagura dragged him, pulled she got pulled back, "what?"
"Well you don't have to touch him ya know..." Kasuga pulled on the other arm, "he's not your to own okay?" Kagura narrowed her eyes at her sister, "Hm, if looks could kill.." she mumbled.
"Shut up, you don't have to touch him either." she tugged back.
"Stop this, just take me to wherever you want, and get it over with." He hissed.
They both let go and humphed, "Fine."
