“Oh, sweetie! What happened to you? You're soaking wet!” Her mother exclaimed terrified, Kagome faked a smile as she shook her head.
“I just walked under the rain, I'm going to change before I get a cold…” she walked half way up to her room when she heard her mother's voice again.
“Would you like to eat something?” Kagome sighed, her stomach was growling but she didn't feel like eating. She turned and looked at her mother with the same fake smile she had shown her before.
“No thanks, I already had something with Sango.” Her mother nodded as she walked up to her room.
Kagome didn't bother in changing her clothes; she threw herself on bed as she felt her pink blanket dripping the water from the rain that had fallen on her. For the first time in her whole life, Kagome Higurashi felt like an idiot. `How could I let him fool me? Pretending to be nice, kind and sweet; he was just building up a lie and I fell for it… I'm a real idiot.' She thought, Kagome battled the tears forming in her eyes and sighed, `what is it that made me trust in him? Was it his bright eyes? The honesty he faked in his voice? Or maybe… just the fact that I trusted him to be different.'
“Of course, he proved how different he is from other thieves.” she mumbled to herself, pushing behind her wet hair before standing up to change.
Kagome quickly tossed on the floor her soaked clothing and changed her blankets before she got under her blankets and tried to sleep. But it was impossible for her; the look on Inuyasha's eyes when she caught him was driving her crazy. Kagome still couldn't believe how easily she had let him trick her. `He lied to me and I gave him the money I have been saving for college, he's just like any other thug. But then… why did he give me back some money? Why couldn't he just take it and leave? Why did he have to make me believe he had a heart and some values left inside him?' she sighed again and turned her whole body to face the wall, when she closed her eyes she could picture him in a bed; he would be facing at the wall as well as he tried desperately to sleep. Kagome opened her eyes and thought she was crazy because for a slight moment, she swore she saw him sleeping next to her as his breathing soothingly helped her to sleep.

Inuyasha entered as he slammed the door against the door and then slammed it again to close it. It was anger washing over him, he couldn't stand it and kicked his only table in the room; Inuyasha harshly threw his keys towards the wall and finally sat on his bed letting out a frustrated sigh. `Why did she have to be there? Why every time I'm doing my business I find her right behind me?' Inuyasha roughly passed his fingers through his hair, he lay on his bed trying to calm down but the thought seeing her in that damn alley hunted him. Inuyasha furiously clenched his fists and furiously hit his wall, feeling the numbing pain take over his hands as he closed his eyes and tried to calm down again. `Why her? Why her?' he thought furious at himself as he stared at his red knuckles.
“Why her? Damn it!” Inuyasha let out irritated as he punched the wall again, pain washed over him again and stared at the wall which was now stained with his blood, he looked down at his hand and stared at the oozing blood coming from it. “Fuck…”
He lazily got up and went to the sink and washed his hand calmly, everything seemed to go from bad to worse. He sighed annoyed as he realized that his blood wasn't stopping, Inuyasha quickly grabbed a napkin and tied it across his hand to stop it at least for now. He lay on his bed again as he took out the money from his pocket, it was the only good thing he got from that night; the last girl he robbed had a lot of money. 300 dollars in total and some extra 500 from some other strangers he had found on his way. Inuyasha placed threw the money on his table and placed his hands behind his head trying to rest. He desperately attempted to forget about everything that happened to him, or at least about the night he had his first encounter with her. `Why wasn't I able to take away her necklace? It was the only thing I needed for her to report me to the police, sooner or later they would have caught Naraku and I would be out of this disgusting life but then… Kikyo. If I only…' the sound of his cell phone interrupted his thoughts, he checked the screen to realize that the person calling was the last person he wanted to hear or see.
“Inuyasha, are you forgetting how to do your job properly?” Naraku asked, Inuyasha's only response was a long, heavy sigh. “I'll take that as a yes; let me remind you that once you're done, you must…”
“Go to your den and give you your fucking money, I know… I'm not stupid and I haven't forgotten about it.” He heard Naraku chuckle a little.
“Great, then why are you at your apartment instead of my place?” Inuyasha rolled his eyes and clenched his fists; the aching pain coming from his hand reminded him his injury.
“I almost got caught, I had to run away… if I get caught; you will get caught and then…” Inuyasha answered.
“Ah, right… Kikyo. You still think about her, don't you?” Inuyasha sighed, of course he cared about her. It was obvious that even though she harmed him his heart was still beating for her. “Don't think about her anymore, she's very secure between my arms… now, by tomorrow night I expect you right here with tonights and tomorrow night's money… understood?”
“Yeah…” he heard the dial tune after that and threw his cell phone to the kitchen, aiming to the sink.
Inuyasha sighed heavily taking off his pants along with his shirt and got under the only blanket he had; he stared at the discolored ceiling on top of him trying to fixate his thoughts on everything but tonight's events. Inuyasha was very tired but he wasn't able to close his eyes and rest. He sighed before looking outside the window, the rain hadn't stopped and he still could see her disappointed look, Inuyasha could clearly remember her sodden hair with her eyes filled of deception which made it even more difficult for him to forget it. `She knows where I work… she could go to the police now, I know I shouldn't have lied and I know I shouldn't have gotten involved with that girl… fucking wench, always getting in my way.' he thought and picturing her room behind his closed eyelids. He deepened the thought, realizing how peaceful it made him; Inuyasha smiled softly when the thought of her sleeping serenely in her comfortable bed crossed his mind.

A whole week had elapsed and Kagome still didn't gather the courage to go to the mechanic, the thought of seeing him scared him to death, she felt too hurt. `I felt like a fool when I discovered his true intentions…but I helped him because I thought that I could help him leave that life style…if he lied to me about that, then he must have lied about robbing Sango's house as well.' She let out a heavy sigh and heard the bell ring, announcing that Friday was over. Kagome slowly strolled over to her locker; although classes had ended only 5 minutes ago there was no one there except for her. Silence boomed in her ears as she opened her locked, grabbing her books and notebooks for her homework and for her study, Kagome immediately closed it once she was done. She sighed heavily ready to go back home when she heard a familiar voice calling her, she turned around and found Kouga.
“So… are we going out tomorrow?” Kouga asked, she smiled slightly and let out a dry giggle.
“I haven't asked yet, I've been busy with homework and tests and studies…” she lied.
During her whole week she did her homework while she thought about Inuyasha, she tired to study but Inuyasha was on her mind. While she was trying to answer her test, Inuyasha would be in her thoughts. He popped into her thoughts even if what she was doing had nothing to do with him, even when she was sleeping a part of her kept on thinking about him and when she woke up his name slipped through her mind.
“You could still ask her… this would be a great way to get away from homework and study, don't you think?” he asked huskily taking a step closer to her.
“I guess I could…” Kagome said before smiling again. “Alright, I will go out with you.”
“I'll pick you up tomorrow at 8 tonight… see you tomorrow babe.” he kissed her cheek lightly and walked away.
Kagome kept her eyes on him until he was out of sight, a few months ago that would have been the best moment in her whole life but now it was just a date. She took calm steps to her home; she couldn't stop feeling as if she was betraying someone. Like if she was cheating on someone. `Why do I have this feeling of heaviness? It couldn't be because I haven't asked mom and I already agreed to a date with Kouga… mom doesn't mind when I ask her a last minute thing… but then again… why is the thought of going out with Kouga torturing me?' Kagome sighed heavily as she heard her cell phone ring, she lazily looked through her bag and picked up her phone.
“Hello, Kagome Higurashi speaking…” she answered.
“Hi dear, would you mind doing me a favor?” she smiled at the sound of her mother's voice.
“Of course mom, I was just going back home now.” Kagome said checking in which street she was; Kagome was three blocks away from her house.
“Would you mind picking up my car at the mechanic?” She gulped nervous as shock washed over her. “Hello? Sweetie, are you there?”
“Yes mom, I heard you… I'll be at home immediately after that.” she answered and finished her call.
Kagome sighed heavily as she walked back to the bus stop. She wished her mother hadn't asked her for that, for a short moment she forgot about her troubles with her mechanic and her mother's car. `It's been a week already, the car must be fixed by now… I just hope I don't have to see him, I just wouldn't know what to do… I've been thinking about him nonstop and it would be very awkward for me to face him after what happened… I wouldn't know what to do.' Kagome thought, the sound of screeching tires coming from the bus stopping made her react.
“Miss? Are you coming in?” the bus driver asked, Kagome slightly shook her head but immediately realized her actions.
“I mean yes, I'm sorry…” she rushed into the bus and quickly sat at the first seat she spotted.
The trip over to downtown wasn't as long as she thought; maybe it appeared to be faster due to the fact that she couldn't stop thinking about his reaction when he saw her there. The bus stopped a street before she reached the mechanic, Kagome hesitated about going in once she saw the sign of it a few steps away. She took a deep breath and with determination walked inside over to the reception; an old man was sitting there, reading a magazine with a model in bathing suit on the cover. Kagome awkwardly looked at him and cleared her throat; she noticed his focus on that magazine was very intense so she decided to try something else.
“Excuse me,” Kagome let out timidly, the man dropped the magazine and looked at her a bit embarrassed.
“Yes, welcome… may I help you?” he asked nervously.
“Hi, I came here and dropped my car a week ago and I wanted to know if it's ready so I can take it home.” he nodded and went over to the computer.
“Name?” he asked as he typed on his computer.
“Kari Higurashi, that's my mother's name.” Kagome answered and waited a few seconds as she heard the click of the key board.
“Ah! Yes, Inuyasha has been repairing it all week… he must be done with it, go check it…” she nodded, trying not to let him see how nervous she felt.
“Thanks.” The man shot her a smile, Kagome returned the gesture. She gulped and walked over to the cars, she was very anxious to see Inuyasha. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him cleaning her car, it looked like brand new. “Hey,”
He stared at her stunned, he was waiting for police officers to take him away and throw him into a dark cell but Kagome stood there with a light blush across her face. She couldn't believe how good he looked; even with his dirty uniform his gorgeous features were amazingly beautiful. Inuyasha turned around pretending to be cleaning it again but he just didn't want her to know that he had his face flustered and blushed. Kagome hopped on her mother's car, realizing it had been cleaned inside too. He walked towards the passenger's window and threw the car keys towards her. Thanks to her reflexes she was able to catch them before they fell.
“It took me all week but its ready… it's yours now.” Kagome nodded keeping a smile on her face, Inuyasha turned around.
“Thanks…” she said softly as she got out of the car, he shrugged his shoulders.
“No need to thank me, that's why I get paid for.” he replied and walked away; she sighed and decided to ask him about what had been bothering her the whole week.
“Inuyasha…” Kagome called, he froze at the sound of her voice and turned around lazily, he stared at her as he waited for her to finish the phrase. She had some trouble pushing out the words out of her mouth and after a deep breath, she decided to ask. “Why did you lie?”
“I didn't.” he answered as he walked away again; Kagome closed her car's door and followed him.
“Then why did you steal again?” she asked and he sighed, making him stop.
“Its complicated.” he said, Kagome looked at him hopeful.
“You can tell me…” She suggested, Inuyasha looked at her exasperated.
“Why would I tell you? I've known you for three days!” he yelled annoyed and Kagome closed her eyes, he sighed helplessly. “You don't know me,”
“I want to know you… please, tell me.” he could hear the sincerity in her voice and groaned irritated.
“I can't… I can't tell you anything here.” he whispered. “And I'm still not sure about you,”
“I don't have many friends and I'm almost always by myself… I promise that your secrets will be safe with me, please?” she asked and he rolled his eyes.
“Let's go out to eat…” he said and threw away the bandanna he used to clean her car, he left her alone for a few seconds and returned with a red T-shirt and a dark ripped jean.
“Wait, do you mean it as in a date?” she asked and blushed lightly, he turned to look at her with a cold stare.
“No, you said you wanted me to explain it for you… well, we're going out to talk. That's it.” she nodded.
“Talk, right… let's go” she said and he followed her.
`I could never date you… no matter how bad I wish…' Inuyasha sighed.

“A double cheese burger, extra fries with a large chocolate shake and a salad.” Kagome ordered and Inuyasha gave her a weird stare. “What?”
Inuyasha took her to the closest restaurant he found, Kagome didn't mind it knowing that as long as she could spend some time with him to know him better, nothing really mattered. An old woman soon came towards them and asked for their orders; Inuyasha was amazed by her appetite.
“I thought girls liked to keep her figure and eat only salads…” he said ashamed and she shook her head.
“Those girls are idiots… a well balanced food is what makes a balanced meal along with exercise.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes and saw the waitress who was still waiting for his order.
“Um… I want… the same, except for the salad.” she nodded and left.
“Alright, now are you going to tell me why you lied?” he sighed.
“You can't tell this to anybody… the police, your parents, your friends…” she shook her head.
“I have no intention to harm you; I just want to know you.” Inuyasha took a look at her big brown eyes filled with sincerity, she smiled at him and he sighed.
“I'm in gang, not because I want to but because I have to… a few months ago, I lost a bet with the actual boss of the gang I'm involved with… the old boss was murdered and we were the ones in charge of it but we bet our tittles in a stupid poker game I lost… and I ended up working for him… I can't quit, can't leave, can't run away because if I do… I'm dead.” Inuyasha took a deep breath before he kept on going. “He took everything I owned, my apartment, my old car, my title, my girlfriend… and now, I'm just a stupid peon on his war for the other half of the city.”
“So you're not doing this for your own will?” he arched his eye brow.
“Didn't you just hear what I said? I'm being manipulated… you know? For being such a smart girl you're have a terrible memory.” Kagome rolled her eyes, she was about to defend herself when the waitress arrived.
“Here you go, enjoy.” the waitress interrupted them while she placed the food in front of them, Kagome gave her a small `thank you' before she left.
“Is there something…” she asked, Inuyasha shook his head as he took some fries and munched them.
“Don't even bother… you might get killed before you help.” he said once he was done with his fries.
Silence surrounded them as they had their meals, Kagome couldn't help watch him as he ate his food; she couldn't stop staring at him after that story. She wanted to say something to cheer him up but the only things she could think about were pity words. `I'm sorry for him; yesterday I was judging him without knowing what kind of stuff he had been through… I knew he wasn't bad,' Kagome finished her food to notice that Inuyasha was already done with his. Inuyasha stood up and walked away to pay the check, Kagome followed him back to the mechanic since she left her car at there. Inuyasha would have driven here there but his car was still broken so they had no other option than to walk. When they were there, the shop was already closed.
“Thanks for fixing my car… and for explaining me what happened last night and for everything else.” Kagome smiled, something inside Inuyasha begged him to stop her.
“Wench!” he called and she sighed annoyed and looked back at him.
“I'm not calling you `jerk' am I? The name is Kagome.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes.
“Yeah… I'll walk you home, you might get in troubles.” she nodded thankful, he walked by her side.
Kagome was becoming uncomfortable that when they were together silence would always rule them. She looked up at him to notice that he was drowned in his thoughts, his sight was lost in the floor beneath their feet; Kagome smiled a bit and took a deep breath.
“When we first met… remember my necklace?” Inuyasha looked at her as she pulled it out of her T-shirt and showed him, he nodded. “Why didn't you take it?”
“If I knew the answer… I wouldn't be here walking you home.” he half smiled and she blushed lightly. He pulled out a cigarette and lighted it up.
“Why do you want to kill yourself?” Kagome asked curiously, Inuyasha arched his brow as he took a deep sip from his cigarette.
“I don't remember saying something like that…” He said and later pushed the smoke out of his mouth, Inuyasha was about to take another drag when Kagome slowly moved her hand towards his mouth.
“I told you that these…” she took his cigarette, threw it to the floor and stepped on it. “Could kill you and you said that they would do you a favor.”
“I thought you would leave me alone… but you're still here.” she giggled and he smiled at the sound of her laugh.
Kagome and Inuyasha walked the rest of their trip in silence, after a few minutes they arrived to her house. Inuyasha remembered the first time he was inside there, the peaceful colors inside of it and the portraits of her family members, the delicious smell of lavender that stuck in his nose until he was out of there. But what he remembered the most, was the intoxicating aroma of her room, he closed his eyes tightly trying to bring back the memory of that scent but Kagome's voice took him out of his thoughts.
“I'm thanked that we could clear that up… I just want you to know that the whole night I tried to tell you something but I don't want you to think I pity you so I decided that…” he placed his hand over her mouth.
“I don't need any encouraging words or stupid metaphors about life… I'm fine with this Kagome and I'm glad you never told anyone.” she smiled. “I guess I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” Kagome echoed surprised and Inuyasha nodded.
“You left your car at the mechanic… you have to pick it up, don't you?” she smiled, felling a bit stupid to think that he would actually want to see her again. Kagome nodded.
“I totally forgot about that… thanks a lot Inuyasha.” she kissed his cheek lightly.
Kagome was about to go inside when she felt him grabbing her arm softly, she turned to look at him and he pulled her closer to him. She felt her cheeks red and he smiled at her shyness. Kagome saw his face filled with strong desire, she wasn't sure what it meant but she knew that her face was showing the same expression. She closed her eyes tightly feeling that her first and very special kiss was coming soon. Inuyasha moistened his lips with his mouth, ready to crash upon hers when he heard someone calling for her.
“Kagome? Honey? Is that you?” her mother asked from her bedroom window and Inuyasha let her go, he chuckled embarrassed.
“What was I thinking?” he mumbled more to himself. “Till tomorrow…”
“Good night.” she replied biting her bottom lip as she watched him leave her property, she felt her heart beat faster and sighed dreamily.
“Kagome?” her mother asked in a frightened voice, she jumped startled and she shook her head.
“Sorry mom!” she said and quickly went inside, she let out another sweet sigh before going to her room.
