“You will live Shinta… I promise you.” he cried shakily. “After this, we'll both go out to eat at your favorite restaurant and I'll pay for everything. Just… please…Please! Don't leave me…” he pleaded as his heart shattered into thousands of pieces. His protector and friend was dying… and there was nothing that he could do about it.
“Pro… tect her…” his weakly voice let out a sharp whisper, Inuyasha looked at him confused.
“What?” he asked as he sniffed holding back the pain and tears for a moment, Shinta pulled him closer to him and whispered on his ear.
“Inu… yasha… you have to… protect her… for me” it was the last thing he ever heard him say, after it he stopped moving. Inuyasha's eyes were letting water fall as a cascade allowing the salty liquid flow down his redden cheeks.
“No, Shinta… please! NO!” he yelled furious to the skies which had taken the only thing he ever cared about. Inuyasha looked at Shinta through the tons of water in his eyes, hugged him tightly as if he was never going to let him go.
“You knew he would die, stop being such a drama queen.” Naraku interrupted him with a impassive voice, Inuyasha let him go for a moment and looked back at the killer with fury.
“This is all your fault! Why the fuck are you so greedy?! Why couldn't you let him leave me in charge?! Weren't you satisfied with what he left you? Were you so gluttonous for power that you needed to kill him? The only man that ever cared about us?!” he yelled at the top of his lungs to make him understand. Naraku didn't even seem to wince on the inside, he pushed him apart.
“You wanna know why?! Because everything he owned was supposed to go to me! Everything! I should be the one who was asked to take care of his daughter and not you, you ignoble shit!” Inuyasha cleaned away his tears and looked at him a bit surprised.
“Daughter?” he echoed and Naraku nodded almost mechanically.
“Yes, he had a daughter… he never mention it to you? And I thought you two told each other everything” he laughed viciously. “I guess he never really trusted you”
“That's not true!” he yelled as Naraku laughed cruelly again. “If he didn't, he wouldn't have asked me to do it… I'll find her, someday and then I'll take care of her and you'll never see her”
“I doubt it, Inuyasha… you'll have that backwards, I'll find her…” Naraku walked in circles around Inuyasha, whispering lowly every word and giving them a malicious tone. “And when I do… I'm gonna tell her what her father was like. He was a horrible man who had kids do his dirty work… and when she hears it, she's going to pity him, she's going to call him a poor imbecile old man and she'll tell me how ashamed she is to be the fruit of his loins…” he stopped in front of Inuyasha, Naraku laughed meanly. Inuyasha wanted to kill him right there but the only thing he did was stand there and growl like a dog would do to a stranger. “And then, I'll touch her neck and kill her and tell her that it's for her own good… because being a part of that man is a terrible punishment” he let out malicious chuckles.
“You'll never lay a single finger on her, you'll never even get to talk to her… and that's a promise I make for Shinta” Inuyasha hissed fumingly and pushed Naraku out of his way, he took one last look at his protector as he walked out of the warehouse.

`I'm trying to keep my word… but every time it becomes harder, my friends betray and lie to me and the only people whom I really trust aren't even my friends.' he mentally sighed, Inuyasha looked at Kagome who was peacefully sleeping with her head on his chest, he half smiled. After going to the hospital and having someone take care of his wound, she had begged him for another night. Although he didn't want her mother to worry even more, he let her stay because he wanted to feel the warmth of her body against his for another night. He kissed her forehead softly before getting up from his bed; he walked up to his kitchen and grabbed a cigarette from the dirty counter. The smoke passed through his lungs, taking away his stress and relaxing him. Inuyasha took a drag from it as he gazed at the bed, he saw her shift her position as if she was uncomfortable. He put it out immediately, dissipating the smoke formed around him and letting out the last of it he had in his mouth. Inuyasha walked next to his bed and she immediately turned around to face him.
“I hate it when you smoke.” she whispered softly, he caressed her cheek and gave her a small smile.
“I hate it when you complain about my smoking.” she giggled, he moved closer to kiss her but she stopped him.
“I really don't like it.” he sighed before getting up and going back to the kitchen. “I'm sorry… I know it sounds stupid.”
“Never mind… want something to drink?” he asked dismissing the conversation as he boiled water.
“Yes, please… coffee, if you don't mind.” he looked around for the coffee beans and he sighed, the turned off the heat that was boiling the water and got his pants. “Where are you going?”
“I don't have coffee… I'll buy some along with something to eat.” Kagome got out of his bed and got on her pants.
“I'll go with you.” Kagome said, Inuyasha shot her a cold stare for a moment and then she sighed. “I can't leave this place.”
“You know something?” he grabbed her cell phone and threw it over to her; she caught it before it hit the bed. “Call your mother, ask her to meet you somewhere… it's not that I don't want you with me… but she has to know that you are safe and that you will go back with her.”
“Fine” she replied reluctantly, she dialed and he smiled. “But just for the record, I'm not doing this for her or for me… I'm doing it because you asked me to.”
Inuyasha decided that it was the best to let her talk to her mother alone, he didn't want to interfere and he didn't want to hear it if things became ugly. He walked slowly towards the bathroom as he heard Kagome talk. He let the water of the shower run warm, but before he could get in he heard his own cell phone ring, he quickly went over to his discarded pants and riffled through his pants pockets until he found the phone, only to sigh when he saw who was calling. He didn't know why he answered the phone, after all she was the last person he wanted to talk to right now.
“What do you want Kikyo?” he asked and she sniffed.
“I need to talk to you Inuyasha… right now.” he rolled his eyes at her demanding tone.
“I'm busy.” he replied emotionless and heard her laugh.
“Right, you're busy screwing your whore… I should have known.” he passed his fingers through his silvery white hair before sitting on the toilet.
“It takes one to recognize another.” he sourly snapped and sighed again. “Why did you call?”
“Things are going to get real bad real fast and all hell will break lose. You are going to be caught in the middle of this Inuyasha, weather you like it or not. I know you don't give a shit about this… but I still care about you Inuyasha. I never stopped worrying about you. Ever since you fallowed me through that alley, I knew you were the man of my life…” Inuyasha smiled and laugh sarcastically.
“You don't care about me Kikyo.” He said hardly. “You have always cared about yourself… you just told me that Naraku is going to start a war because you want me to take you away from him. Away from everything. I know your game though, and when you are safe you will throw me away just like last time.”
“I'm not lying.” she said truthfully. “When you feel like you believe me, call me and I'll be at your apartment in less than a minute.”
Inuyasha hung up; the sound of the shower was the only thing that he could listen while he was playing over and over again his conversation with Kikyo. He let out an annoyed sigh and threw his cell phone against the wall to let out the rising anger that he felt building inside of him, boiling up from the pit of his stomach like fowl bile. He didn't know what was harder, to believe Kikyo or to figure out if she was trying to manipulate him into doing her biding and take her out of the rapidly approaching battle of the gangs. Inuyasha would think about it later, he got inside the shower and let the water clean his skin while it relaxed him. A few minutes later, he went out to grab his clothes and went back to the bathroom to change. Inuyasha came out of the bathroom and saw her with a small smile on her lips, he strode over to where she was sitting and casualy sat next to her.
“I heard your conversation… I really didn't mean to! I swear… it was an accident” he was about to talk when she sighed and kept going. “I know she's in the past but you should give her a chance”
“Why? You don't even know her… she's evil, I gave her my heart and she broke it in a million pieces and it took me three year to pick all of them up.” she hugged him tightly.
“People change…” he sighed and slowly pushed her back and away from him.
“No, they don't… they appear as if they have changed but they are the same shit inside” she shook her head and he rolled his eyes. “Okay, then give me one example… show me someone who has changed. And changed for the better.”
“You did.” she said honestly, he froze as she kissed leaned up and tenderly his cheek.
“You changed from that guy who was cold, insensitive and careless to the guy I fell in love with, a man that is filled with love to give and you are giving it all to me; not everything is bad in this world… remember that… I'll go meet my mother.”

“Ouch! Stop it!” she yelled as they hit her harder. “I don't know him!”
After having Suikotsu spy on her for a whole night, he kidnapped her before she could even get to school. He had drugged her and then when she woke up, she realized she was tied up and in a cold dark room. A few hours later, a man with a four point star on his forehead entered the room. He demanded to know about her boyfriend, Sango had no idea of what he was talking about. She soon understood that it was Miroku that they were asking about after a few minutes of hitting and yelling at her. This was one of the reasons he didn't want her to know what he was into.
“Yes you do… stop lying, it doesn't suit you.” Bankotsu said walking in circles around her, he crackled his knuckles.
“Please… there's nothing between Miroku and me… just let me go.” she cried silently, Bankotsu flashed a wicked smile before making her look at him.
“Maybe you're telling the truth… and maybe he still cares about you, for that… I need to know about everything… even if he's sleeping with someone else.” Bankotsu saw her stop. “I'm sorry to tell you this but… you were just a one night stand, he never wanted a real relationship with him.” He said maliciously.
“Jerk!” she spit him, he cleaned his face and smiled.
“Don't do that again… because if you do…” he grabbed her head by the hair and pulled it up harshly, she let out a sharp cry. “You'll make me angry and we don't want that, now do we?”
“No.” she managed to push out; he smiled and let her go.
“Very good Sango, I see now we are getting a little better… let's keep on going, why don't you tell me everything you know about your boyfriend?”
“I know nothing about him! He… he lied to me the whole time! He never even told me he was a gangster!” she cried, Bankotsu felt his heart sink for about a millisecond before he smiled again.
“Poor you, if you told me what I wanted I might have let you go…Renkotsu!” he yelled and his brother showed up.
“Yes?”
“Call Miroku, you know what to say to him.” he nodded and left. “You'll stay here until he comes and personally admits that he was the one who pulled out Ginkotsu's eye balls.”

“You would be in so much trouble if I wasn't so very happy to see you.” her mother whispered against her ear as she hugged her tightly.
“Thank you mom for not calling the police this time.” she smiled and hugged her back for a few seconds before they pulled apart to sit down.
Kagome carefully examined her mother's appearance, noting that her facial features described long restless nights with little or no sleep. She looked worse for wear. As she gazed her face, she realized for the first time in her life how much she resembled her mother. She had her big brown eyes and her adorable smile. Her mother caught her eyes on her and smiled. Kagome grabbed her hand softly and kissed it before she closed her eyes for a millisecond. She reluctantly let go of her mother once the menus were on the table.
“I'm sorry for running away, it was wrong and…” her mother shook her head and Kagome immediately stopped talking.
“It was my fault; I shouldn't have forbid you to do everything you enjoy… I was acting selfish, but you have to understand it was because I wanted to protect you. I don't want anything to happen to you.” Kagome listened to her mother's voice crack as a tear sorrowfully slipped down the side of her face before she reached over to wipe it away so it would not hit the table.
“I do… I just want you to know that nothing bad will ever happen to me. Inuyasha would never let me get hurt.” she whispered and her mother smiled softly.
“Inuyasha.” she said and Kagome turned around to see him standing there, he returned the smile.
“May I take a seat?” the two women nodded and he grabbed a chair nearby and sat between the two of them.
“I have to wash my hands, I'll be right back.” her mother nodded and Inuyasha kept his look on her until she entered the bathroom, he looked back at her mother who was staring at him furiously.
“Stay away from her.” she hissed and he shook his head.
“You can't hide it anymore, Kaoru… I know who you are. I knew it ever since I met your daughter but I didn't want to say a word about it until I was sure. I'm very sure now that she's Shinta's daughter.” her eyes widened and she nodded.
“Yes, did he tell you to keep an eye on her? Because if that's the case I'll just…” he shook his head.
“He's dead… he died 3 years ago.” she covered her mouth.
“I knew all the time that this may happen… and that's why I asked him to choose, it was his way of life or his family… he chose his life and left Kagome the necklace she has.” Inuyasha was surprised, he was about to steal from her the only memory from her real father, she sighed. “I made my husband Rui give it to her once I married him, Kagome is too young to remember but she was 7 years when that happened.”
“I was 9 when I met him…Shinta cared for me as if I was his own son. The day he died, he asked me to take care of someone. I had no idea of who he was talking about until another person who used to work for him explained it to me, after that day I vowed I would find her and fulfill his last will…”
“Is it only because you want to protect her…or is there something else that keeps you coming back to my daughter?” he let out a heavy sigh.
“At first I tried not to mix her into my life, I'm not going to lie to you…I'm living a worse life than him; I've killed many people just because I was ordered to. I've hurt many people because they were going to hurt me. I've made many people cry because I hurt people they loved. I did my best to push her away from me but she kept on coming back to me. She… she's the one who loves me and I just… I can't stop feeling my heart fill with happiness every time she's near me.” she sighed.
“Inuyasha… for her own good, you must never tell her that you knew her father… he's a part of her life that I don't want her to…”
“My father?” Kagome echoed as her mother abruptly stopped talking. “My real father? Inuyasha… you knew him the whole time and you didn't say a word?!”
“I wasn't sure! I didn't want to give you false hope… the last thing I wanted to do was to hurt you.” he said in his defense, her eyes were filled with deception and as she watched him talked she felt even more angry at him and at his words.
“Honey… he isn't the one to blame, if you want to get mad at anyone… be mad at me because I pushed him away from us.” her mother stood up and tried to pull her into her cajoling embrace but Kagome moved away from her harshly.
“I… I need to be alone now.” she whispered and walked out of the restaurant dazed.
“Kagome…” Inuyasha was about to follow her when Kaoru grabbed his hand, he looked back at her and she shook her head.
“She's right… she should be alone now.”
As soon as Kagome stepped out of the restaurant, she ran away. More tears streamed down her face with every heartbreaking step she took. She wanted to get somewhere were she could think about everything that has happened lately. Why would her mother lie to her for such a long time? That was the question that was bouncing up and down in her head for the last three minutes since she heard Inuyasha knew her father.)She was crossing a street when she heard the honk of a car, Kagome thought she would die because it was going very fast and she had no time to run away. She threw to a side to avoid the hit but the car stopped right on time, she heard someone laugh and then she saw Naraku.
“I didn't mean to scare you princess.” he said and offered her his hand; she didn't pay attention to it and stood up by herself.
“I have to go…” she cleaned her tears and kept on walking.
“What's the matter? Heard something you didn't like?” he said wickedly, she sighed and looked back at him.
“It's complicated and I don't feel comfortable talking to you about my personal life...” he smirked.
“You found out the mystery about your father already?” she froze and walked back to him.
“You knew him too?!” he nodded.
“And I'll be glad to talk about him if you have the time…” Naraku walked back to his car and opened the passenger's door for her. “We'll just talk. Nothing will happen to you.”
Kagome wasn't thinking properly at that moment but there was nothing she wanted more in the world than to know the truth about her father. She entered the car and let Naraku take her to his place.
