InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Destiny's Ploy ❯ lies? ( Chapter 22 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

“Why now? Why not before? Why couldn't you just tell me?” she asked him as they drove away. Her heart was as heavy as a stone and it was all because of the many truths her mother and boyfriend hid from her.

“I'll tell you everything… as soon as we reach my apartment.” she sighed annoyed. 10 years…10 long years she had waited for an answer. For someone to have the courage to tell her what happened to her real father. To tell her why he was never there for her and now…now that she had the chance it she had to wait even longer.

“I thought it was all a dream.” she mumbled as she watched her own reflection on the car's window, trees passed before her eyes and leaves were falling pretty close to the car; Kagome wanted to stretch out her arm and grab one of them. The life of a leaf was so simple, and she was envious of it. They spent there whole lives growing and going through photosynthesis. They cleaned the air and provided shade. That's all they did. They didn't have fathers that mysteriously disappeared, or mothers and boyfriends who hid things from you. Her father…After giving it some deep thought she was able to remember the last she had ever seen her beloved father.

“What are you talking about?” he asked dazed, unaware of the questing she had just asked, Naraku heard the splashing sound of water hitting his car tiers as they passed over a giant puddle lying contentedly dormant in the gutters.

“I thought that I dreamed… that my biological father was with me, that he told me he left me… and I just…” she said voice vapid of all emotion.

“It's time for me to go, say goodbye to daddy sweetheart… I'll miss you darling.” he said and brought her into his arms, she looked at him confused.

“Goodbye? What are you talking about daddy? I thought you had to work earlier today… not right now… and besides you promised to be with me.” she pouted bringing her lips together, he smiled sadly.

It was a perfect late afternoon; the skies had the adorable mixture of orange and gold which hit the windows of her home. A soft wind blew before the family as he bent down to his daughter's height. Kagome and her father spent little time together before, but she held those moments dearly and wished he could be there with her forever. Right now he had to say goodbye and it was the last thing she wanted to hear. Her mother was a few meters away, with her arms crossed across her chest and trying to be strong for both her daughter as well as herself. She never thought that she would one day be watching him getting ready to leave his daughter's life and the life that the two of them had built together.

“I have to go… far away… do you understand that, sweetie?” he asked as he kissed her cheek, he hugged her tighter at the same time, trying to engrave this moment into his mind forever. He needed this to remember what it was like to hold his baby girl in his arms. The man looked back at the cold woman who he once called `love' she sniffed and let down a few tears roll on her cheeks, he kept his eyes on her till she looked back at him. Shinta immediately looked away from her and touched his daughter's hair lightly.

“But… you will be back, right daddy?” she asked hoping for a positive answer, he smiled sadly and closed his eyes before kissing her soft cheek once again, knowing that it would be the last time.

“I hope so sweetie…” he let her go, she ran back to her mother who had her face buried between her own hands.

“Mommy… where's daddy going?” she asked and her mother cleaned away her tears.

“Somewhere only he knows… let's go get ice cream, do you want some?” Kagome nodded her reply as she smiled widely.

“How old were you?” he asked curiously and she sighed before turned around to look at him.

“About 7… 6 years maybe, I just wish I could see him again… can I?” she asked hopefully, and he hid his malicious smile.

“That's exactly what I needed to talk about… here we are.”

Naraku parked his car right in front of his building. Kagome ran inside to avoid getting wet by the pounding rain; she knew it had no point since she would get wet anyways. He entered and made a sign with his hand to the guard, Kagome looked back at him and thought he was very familiar but she decided not to bring it up. They stood in silence during the long ride up in the elevator finally stopping at the desired floor, number 18. She saw a long endless corridor; everything was made out of marble except for the doors, one which of was made of glass while the other of out ebony wood. Kagome was about to enter the same door she took when she was with Inuyasha when she saw Naraku going towards a door across the corridor. The room, which was on the other side of the door, was made out of wood paneling, white furniture was surrounding the environment and very fine art was making the place seem peaceful. It was all very simplistic. He pointed at the couch and she sat down there slowly, Naraku sat right next to her.

“Tell me everything you no about him.” she asked and he thought for a second.

“For a long time… I was about 9 when I met him. He was like my own father… I never met my real parents, I grew up in an orphanage until I turned 9 and that's when I ran away. He offered me everything I had ever wanted, I never knew people like him existed…” she nodded gathering the new information, Kagome felt good on the inside but something was still bothering her. If her father was so good and kind hearted…then why did her mother leave him? Naraku seemed to have cared about him as much as she would have. She thought he wasn't as bad as he looked.

“Did he tell you about me?” he nodded.

“Yes, you were the only thing he was proud of… he used to talk about you all the time and said that one day he would see you again and hugged you tighter than ever and after that day… he wouldn't let you go… but he never told me you were this beautiful.” he whispered flirtatiously as stroked lightly her neck before she pushed away his hand.

“Where is he?” he sighed and looked away.

“I didn't want to tell you this… I really hoped I didn't have to but…” she looked at him worried.

“What? Where is he?” he hugged her and for the first time, she let him do it.

“He was killed…” she felt her heart sink and she closed her eyes tightly trying not to let the torrent of tears fall. “I remember… we were talking at his warehouse, he had quite a few of those back then, and he was telling me how much he wanted me to keep his business running. An old friend of mine, someone whom one could say was also kind of his protégée, got jealous and shot him. I regret myself everyday for not being there to save him.”

“Who was it?” she asked anxious to know the name who had dared to take away her beloved father, Naraku looked at her sadly and let out the only name she didn't want to hear.

“Inuyasha.”

Miroku ran inside the club furiously, it was too early for it to be functioning so he had no trouble with security. As he made his way through Bankotsu's office he heard a few people yelling at him, telling him he had no permission to go in there. He didn't care at the moment; his anger was as big as his worry for his girlfriend from whom he hadn't heard a word since she broke up with him.

When he was finally in front of his office he kicked the door open and before he could run and kill Bankotsu for kidnapping the only person he had ever cared for. Suikotsu and Jakotsu grabbed him by the arms and pulled him back. Bankotsu smiled evilly and laughed the same way before going to close his door.

“Where is she?” Miroku demanded hysterically.

“You should know… you know everything about this place and a few dirty secrets as well.” he tried to get free from Suikotsu and Jakotsu but it was useless.

“I'll only say it one more time… where is Sango?” he yelled again and Bankotsu rolled his eyes.

“We'll have time for that later… may I ask why you killed Ginkotsu?”

“How do you know it was me?” he asked calming down and forgetting about her for a moment.

“Miroku, we worked together since you were 15… you shouldn't lie to me, now was it Naraku who ordered you?” he asked and he sighed.

“If I answer that… you will let Sango come back with me.” he nodded. “Yes, he asked me to do it because he doesn't want you messing with his territory.”

“Okay, fair enough… let the girl go.” he said to Renkotsu who nodded and walked to bring her. “Oh… before I forget… take care of him guys.”

Suikotsu and Jakotsu pulled him out to the alley, it was raining like hell and they threw him over a pond of mud. Suikotsu started by kicking him in his stomach leaving him with no air in his lungs, Jakotsu pulled him up again and held him with his arms back. Suikotsu smirked before punching Miroku on his face and on his stomach. Suikotsu laughed and spit at him before going inside. Jakotsu smiled and grabbed his face before hitting his face with his knee; he threw him over the water again and heard someone yell. He looked back weakly and saw Sango standing there; she walked, bent and helped him up.

“Are you okay?” she asked, he coughed and let out a spit filled with blood.

“That… should be something… I ask” she smiled before hugging him. “They… didn't hurt you… right?”

“Not really… a few slaps.” he was alarmed and she shook her head. “I'm really not hurt.”

“He's… going to pay… for it.” he stood up and walked slowly towards the door before she stopped him.

“No! You're not going to do this… not like this and not right now.” she said placing his arm around her shoulders. “We are leaving… I'm taking you to a hospital and that's it… I don't want to see you worst than this.”

“There's nothing… worst than this… believe me.” she giggled and kissed his cheek lightly.

“We'll take a cab.” he shook his head.

“She's taking too long!” he yelled and stood up.

“I know my daughter Inuyasha, she needs some time to calm down and she's never going to do that if you are with her.” Kaoru approached the young man determined to calm him down. Inuyasha rolled his eyes and gently pushed her away.

“I don't care! She might be in danger.” he ran out only to be stopped by the rain, he cursed a few times before running down the street as water poured down to him.

Inuyasha ran almost across the whole city, didn't see her anywhere and started to get worried. Inuyasha had his heart filled with fear, what would he do if he found out Kagome got hurt? The thought made a cold shiver run up his spine and he felt like he had been punched in the gut. The black streets mirrored the sky, which was as dark as the thoughts that ran through Inuyasha's mind. He sat under a tree trying to get dry for a few moments when he heard his cell phone ring. He cursed himself because he thought Bankotsu kidnapped her once again, he sighed relieved when he saw Naraku's number on the screen. He lazily pushed back his wet hair covering his face before answering the phone.

“Inuyasha… I'm glad to hear your voice.” he said even before he could speak.

“What do you want now?” he heard him laugh.

“Remember the second favor you owe me? It's time for you to pay me.” he looked up to the sky and absently noticed that the storm was getting even worst.

“I'll be there in a few minutes.” he sighed heavily and stood up.

Inuyasha walked slowly, he had no hurry because he was just two blocks away from the building. Once there, he looked at the guard who was different from the guy who was usually there. The man he knew was tall and very skinny, dark hair, he also knew him because he worked for Naraku but the man that was there was different. He was very small, with big very round eyes and a bit fat. Inuyasha shook his head to clear his thoughts and went straight to Naraku's office to abrogate their deal. He barreled down the hallway and arrived at his apartment. He heard the muffled and vapid one-sided conversation between Naraku and someone else before hearing said someone cry painfully. He knocked on the door and listened as everything became quiet, the door opened immediately and once he entered he saw Kagome sitting in the couch.

“What are you doing here?” he asked and saw her red eyes, she rubbed them gently before sniffing.

“She came here… and listened to the truth.” he heard Naraku say behind him, he looked back at him.

“What the fuck did you tell her?” Inuyasha yelled hysterical and Kagome sobbed.

“He… told me everything I needed to know about my father.” she softly managed to say, Kagome pursed her lips and sobbed a few more times.

“Most of them lies.” he mumbled and turned around to face his nightmare.

“I told her everything I know.” he sighed before walking next to her and planting a tender kiss on her cheek while looking straight into Inuyasha's eyes. “She now knows what happened to him.”

“Kagome… come here next to me, stay away from him.” Inuyasha hissed and she shook her head.

“I thought you wanted to protect me but… I got it all wrong.” she buried her face in Naraku's shoulder.

“She knows that you killed her father!” Naraku yelled and Inuyasha threw himself at him.

“That's a lie and you know it!!! You killed him! It was you who shot at him and then it was you who laughed at him while he was lying motionless on the floor dead!!!” he yelled as he chocked him.

Naraku immediately grabbed his cell phone and punched him with it, Inuyasha pulled away with anger. His eyes seemed to be filled with anger as they were turning red; Kagome was getting scared and didn't know what to believe now. Naraku's evil laugh brought her back from her thoughts.

“Going back in time? Just don't kill me in front of her. You already took her father from her. What would she think of you if you killed the only one that she can truly trust in this world right in front of her eyes.” he clenched his fists in fury and charged towards him.

Inuyasha easily dodged his attack, it was the first time Kagome watched him fight but somehow she knew that it wasn't the first time he had to fight like this. He grabbed on to Naraku's hand and twisted it behind his back before hitting him a few times on his stomach; Naraku held his knee up and hit Inuyasha right in the nose. Naraku grabbed Inuyasha this time and threw him against the wall before trying to hit his head but before he could even try to hit him, Inuyasha was already behind him. Naraku smiled and then pulled out something from his pocket, the clicking sound next to his ear made Inuyasha react.

“I win Inuyasha… now, get over there.” Naraku pointed at the door. “Don't you dare to move or I'll blow your brains… just like you did to Shinta.”

“You were the one who killed him! And if I'm correct… that's the exact same gun you used to kill him.” he said eyeing the weapon from the corner of his eye.

“Shut up… Kagome, darling… this might get ugly… why don't you go outside?” she sighed.

“No.” she said rising to her feet and walking towards the struggling couple. He looked at with surprise trying desperately to hide his anger.

“What? Would you like to stay here and risk your life?” she shook her head as she brought up a hand to caress his cheek while stealthily reaching behind him to grab a vase. The last thing Naraku could remember was the look of Inuyasha's triumphant smile.

“I thought you believed in him.” she smiled sadly.

“At first I did… I thought that you were such a hypocrite for lying to me and not telling me that you knew my father. Then when I heard him tell me so many things about my father, I began to hate you. It really convinced me to think that you killed him but…I love you too much to believe Naraku.” he smiled and kissed her lips lightly.

“We have to get out of here before he gains consciousness again.” he grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the building.

Her high heels made the water splash as she walked towards the police station, for not that long, perhaps a couple of years ago, she had met the cold silver haired man who stole her heart and convinced her to change sides. She was a bad girl gone good, or at least that what everyone thought about her. After Naraku killed the true leader of her gang, she lost interest and wanted to take revenge on him. Once she was inside the ivory building, she shook her head trying to get rid off the water her black hair had absorbed, leaving her with a wild exotic look. Her presence there demanded the attention of every man, but she ignored them as she walked towards the main office, not bothering to talk to anyone else. She pressed her ear against the door and once she heard that he was quiet, she knocked and immediately entered to the room. Men surrounding the office watched allowing their eyes to feast on her splendor for a few seconds before turning away not wanting to get caught with their eyes on her. Her beauty was almost as amazing as her intelligence but no one was going to touch her except for one man.

“I'm glad to see you… any news?” she nodded before taking a seat.

“I always have something juicy for you Sess.” she smiled before she resumed her story. Although he disliked that horrible nickname it was something she had made up for him. Because of this she would be the only one who could call him that and not live to regret it.

“Turns out that my stupid half brother has more business than you think… being absent for a year has put me behind his plans, he hasn't told me too much of them… but I do know he has some businesses in drugs and he is no longer into underground fighting. You might know that since you saw your brother without bruises… anyways, your brother is now stealing from pedestrians and he has hired someone very interesting… wanna know who?”

“Stop playing with me, don't make me throw you into the interrogation room.” she laughed, remembering just how much he liked to interrogate her in there.

“Alright… remember the guy who has been stealing millions and millions from banks and other institutes?” he nodded. “He's a brat… he just turned 18 and happens to be a friend of your brothers and of course the girl you supposedly rescued a few nights ago.”

“Higurashi Kagome?” she nodded and Sesshomaru laughed. “And I thought that girl had a bright future ahead of her!”

“She's not going to if she keeps on getting into messes like these anyway… the name of the brat is Miroku Houshi and he also worked for the band of seven… or should I say six since he killed one of them.”

“Have I mentioned how useful you are?” she let out a soft giggle.

“A few times… but it never gets old.” he smiled.

“Thank you Kagura, come again whenever you hear something new and…” she looked back at him. “Dinner at 21?”

“You bet.”
