Inuyasha held the luggage in his hands while Kagome rang the shrine bell, holding only her purse; Sango meanwhile was still lugging suitcases out of the car.

“Geez Kags, you packed everything but the kitchen sink.” She mumbled.

“This is a really nice place.” Inuyasha commented. Kagome smiled at him, and turned her gaze quickly back to the front door.

Inuyasha looked around and noticed a white Subaru parking in the driveway. Kagome heard the car and turned to face it. “Who’s that?” Inuyasha asked.

“Huh. I didn’t think they were doing tours this month.” Kagome said without thinking twice.

“What’s my family doing here!?” Inuyasha asked, realizing who was exiting the vehicle.

Kagome looked back toward the car, “Looks like mom went all out this year.” Kagome stifled a laugh and the door opened just as she reached for the doorbell again.

“Kagome!”

“Mamma!” Kagome hugged her mother.

“I missed you so much princess!”

“I missed you too mamma!”

“And Sango’s here too, and you must be Inuyasha.” She hugged Inuyasha who awkwardly accepted.

“Hello Misses Higarashi, it’s great to meet you.” Inuyasha said, standing up straight as though trying to impress the woman.

“Hey Aunty H.” Sango smiled.

“Hello Sango dear! Oh and look, the Takashi’s are here!”

“Ah, this must be the lovely Misses Higarashi.” A tall man in his mid forties took Mrs. Higarashi’s hand and kissed it softly.

“Well hello Mister Takashi.” Mrs. Higarashi blushed. “This is my daughter Kagome, and her cousin Sango.”

“And the beautiful daughter Kagome, it is no wonder where you get your wonderful looks.”

“Well thank you Mister Takashi Sir, it is an honor to meet you.” Kagome bowed nervously to the man.

“Please, call me Inutaisho.” He said with a smile.

“Of course Inutaisho sir.” Kagome agreed.

“And there’s my boy!” Inutaisho slapped Inuyasha on the back with a smile. “How are you son?” he asked.

“I’m doing good dad. How are you?”

“Fine my boy.”

“Oh good, a weekend with the mongrel.” A cool voice sounded from the back of the throng.

“Is that… no.” Inuyasha faked a look of surprise. “The voice of the undead?” Inuyasha smirked as he saw his brother.

“How very droll Inuyasha.” Sesshomaru almost rolled his eyes.

“How are you Sesshy?” Inuyasha asked.

“Great. You?”

“Superb.” Inuyasha had to laugh at the fact that his brother was probably his closest family member. He knew that Sesshomaru would always watch out for him no matter what. “Hey Rin.” He smiled to a girl standing next to Sesshomaru.

She was about a foot shorter than the six foot five man standing next to her, and the smile she had on her lips never left her face, as opposed to the stoic man she called her husband. The more Inuyasha thought about it, the more he wondered how they had ended up together.

“Hey Yashy.” She smiled. “Been keeping out of trouble?” She asked, a knowing look on her face.

“Always.” He continued to smirk. “Where’s mum?” he asked.

“She’ll be along soon. She had to stop and pick someone up.” Inutaisho explained.

“Why didn’t you all ride together?” Inuyasha asked.

“Well, I wanted to leave in the morning, and you know how your mother does not like to wake up before noon.” Inutaisho shook his head.

“Now I know where you get it.” Kagome whispered to Inuyasha.

“Bite me.” He whispered back.

“Well, let’s not give the neighbors an eyeful. Come on inside.” Misses Higarashi smiled and ushered the six of them inside.

“Thanks mom.” Kagome smiled and looked around her childhood home. It had not changed in the least. It was still warm, cozy, and had the exact same layout as always. The only thing that had changed over the years was the pictures that adorned the mantelpiece and the walls.

“I cannot wait to see my room!” Kagome hadn’t been up to her room in nearly two years and she was excited to get back to it.

“Well you can go put your things up there if you like sweetie. Meanwhile, I will show the others where they’re staying.”

“Okay. Come on Yash.” Kagome smiled, taking Inuyasha by the hand.

“What about the bags?” Inuyasha asked.

“Jaken will get them Inuyasha.” Inutaisho said as he was dragged off by Misses Higarashi.

“Jaken! Is he still alive?” Inuyasha asked with surprise.

“Yes I’m still alive.” A bitter voice sounded from behind him.

“Oh hey Jaken!”

Jaken mumbled incoherently and began following the Takashi’s with his arms laden in bags.

“He scares me a little.” Kagome muttered. “Anyway, come on!”
Kagome dragged Inuyasha through the living room and the kitchen and then up the stairs. “And down to the right are my mum’s room, grandma and grandpa’s room, and a guest room.” She said, quickly leading him down to the left. “Down further are Souta’s room and the study, but there’s a day-bed in there and I think we’re using that for another room.” Kagome smiled as she opened the door to her childhood room. “And this is my room.”

Inuyasha looked around the room. The walls were a soft pink, the bedding was pink even the carpet was pink. It was probably the tidiest room he had ever seen in his life too. “It’s so… girly.” He said with a smirk.

“Shut up!” Kagome hit him playfully on the arm. “I am a girl after all.” Kagome rolled her eyes and bounced onto her bed. “It’s not as fluffy as ours at home, but we’ll have to deal with it.”

“Does it squeak?” Inuyasha asked moving closer to her, “We should test that out.” He smiled devilishly as he kissed her neck softly. Kagome had only a few weak spots, but Inuyasha had managed early on to find them.

“Yash… not now.” She lost herself in his touch every time and she cursed his ability to hide his weakness from her. “Come on, we have to be sociable.” She tried pushing him away but he continued his soft torture on her slim neck.

“Your suitcases Sir, Miss.” Jaken threw the luggage into the room and walked away bitterly.

“Thanks Jaken.” Kagome yelled out to him, not sure if he could hear her. “Come on, we need to go down to the backyard.”

“Why?” Inuyasha asked.

“Because, you have to meet my grandparents.” Kagome smiled and took him by the hand, leading him downstairs.

“What?” He asked as she dragged him through the back door and out onto the shrine lawn.

“Kagome? Is that you?” An elderly voice sounded from the garden near the Goshinboku.

“Grandma Kaede!” Kagome hugged the old woman and smiled, “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too Kagome dear.”

“Where’s grandpa?” Kagome asked.

“I’m not sure. Sal! Where are you!? Kagome’s here!” Kaede yelled toward the well house. “Last I saw he was headed toward that old well house again, says he plans on opening it up for the public. Half the time I don’t know what he’s talking about.” Kagome laughed and nodded as her grandmother spoke.

“Demon begone!”

Kagome turned around to see Inuyasha looking up at his forehead where there was a white piece of paper, apparently glued there. Kagome tried not to laugh as Inuyasha ripped off the spell scroll.

“Grandpa!” Kagome reprimanded. “You don’t have to purify him, he’s not a demon.” Kagome rolled her eyes. “Sorry Yash. He’s determined to find demons walking among us.”

Inuyasha laughed and extended his hand. “Hello Sir, I’m Inuyasha Takashi, it’s wonderful to meet you.”

Grandpa looked at Inuyasha’s hand skeptically before taking it. “Sal Tyako.” He said, shaking his hand.

“There you are.” Misses Higarashi came outside, the others close behind her. “I see you’ve met Dad.” She smiled.

“Speaking of dad, where is he?” Kagome asked excitedly.

“Oh sweetie, he had a business trip, this weekend. He won’t be here.” Misses Higarashi explained, sympathy evident in her eyes.

“Oh yeah, that’s cool.” Kagome smiled like it was no big deal but she was pretty upset about it. She only saw her father on rare occasions and she was hoping that she could see him now. She also wanted him to be there for the “big news”. Inuyasha saw the sadness hit Kagome’s eyes and he decided he would make it up to her somehow.

“Well where’s Souta?” Kagome asked.

“School. He’ll be home at three.” Kagome smiled at this news. She missed her brother, even if she didn’t like to admit it. “So did everyone pack their Halloween costumes?” Misses Higarashi asked.

“Costumes?” Inuyasha spoke up.

“Of course. You cannot go to a Halloween party dressed as your silly old self.” Misses Higarashi smiled and looked at the unsuspecting faces. “Tsk tsk on all of you. It seems that when Misses Takashi gets here and Souta is home, we have some shopping to do.”
