CHAPTER 13: YAY! BIRTHDAYS!
With a groan, Kagome lifted her arm and slammed her hand on her screeching alarm clock. Opening one eye, she checked the time. 6:30. She had a few minutes. But before her clock could go off nine minutes later, her eyes snapped open. She sat up quickly, but not too quickly in her groggy state. God, she must look like hell. As her senses started functioning again, she smelled a very seductive scent. Cinnamon French toast with…(sniff)…bacon and sausage. All homemade. Hopping out of bed in her giant sweater and flannel bottoms, she shuffled downstairs and yawned as she entered the kitchen.
Her mom turned from the stove with a smile and Kagome pecked her cheek before sneaking a bacon strip. At the sound of the crunch, Shippou came out from under the table, bushy tail raised expectantly. His green eyes just begged. Feeling the good mood, Kagome broke a piece and gave it to him. He chewed it carefully, savoring it. She shook her head. If she didn't know better, she'd think he actually understood what they said and the joys of food. Knowing he wasn't going to get anymore, Shippou lay back down under her chair, the gold tag of his aqua collar jingling. Kagome smiled. She could still remember the day they found him. Off hiking in the mountains, her family enjoyed nature in it fullest. Kagome would stop every five minutes to investigate something new. She loved the forest. Its just too bad she never saw it as much as she wanted. Stopping by a stream to cool her face, she almost passed by the auburn ball of matted fur, lying weak and motionless by a river rock. Sadness and sympathy taking her heart, she went over to make sure it was okay and possibly bury the poor thing. When she laid a hand on the newfound fox kit, it whimpered. She gasped and picked it up. He was in a hell of a condition. His fur was wet and matted, some spots crusted with blood. His breathing was shallow, and his small shaking frame snuggled into her warmth. He was but a baby. Seeing no parents around, she took him back to camp and easily convinced her mother to keep him. When he woke up the next day, bandaged and clean, the first thing he saw was Kagome's worried face smiling down at him. The kit cried for its parents, but it only made Kagome cuddle him. Though saddened, it took him no time at all to accept his surroundings and his new mother, who dubbed him Shippou.
"Come on honey eat up," her mother woke her form her memories, "you'll be late. And if we know Sango, she's pacing at the bottom of the shrine steps by now, just bursting to give you a gift."
Kagome grinned and dug into her favorite breakfast, made just for her on her only day of the year.

As was predicted, Sango had been waiting anxiously by the steps, a lilac blue parcel in her hands. Kagome rolled her eyes. The girl just had to get her something. But to her surprise, Sango said she couldn't get it till lunch.
Arriving before the girls and Miroku, Inuyasha opened his locker slowly. It was still morning, and nothing could wake him up yet. He was just not a morning person. He only smiled tiredly as he put the red rose and card in his locker careful so that nothing fell on them. Today was Kagome's birthday, and he wanted her to feel special. But what better way to make her feel special than giving her something, though special, useful? She better just milk it for all its worth, cause he paid pretty good money for them. And Sango better thank him too. Careful not to slam his locker, Inuyasha went to wait by her locker.
When she showed, he was quick to catch his tongue. That had to be a new sweater, cause he's never seen it before. She walked towards him, beaming in happiness, holding a couple birthday balloons. He assumed it was from Miroku. She wore dark blue jeans and black boots, and a new red sweater with a deep v-neck. And he just loved the way her hair flared around her shoulders.
Kagome giggled as he wrapped his arms around her waist, and gave him a quick kiss. And she had seen that look, which gave her great pleasure.
"You look great, is that new?" Inuyasha fingered her sweater.
"Uh-hm, mom gave it to me this morning. I thought you'd like it" she pulled away, giving him a quick glance down her shirt, and spun the lock on her locker. Inuyasha took the time to get one last look at her before entering conversation. He couldn't get over the fact of how sexy that sweater made her look. Not that she wasn't every day, but it really brought it out.
"So where'd you get the balloons?"
"Miroku, and Sango. Sango got me another gift, but she wont give till lunch."
Inuyasha smirked, "well, if that's the deal, I'll wait before I give you mine too."
She turned to him and pouted. God, he hated it when she pouted, cause it just made him want to get rid of it his own way. Maybe later.
"Aw, but I want it now…" she whined.
"No you don't, cause you're not a brat. Don't worry, you'll get it."
"I know, can't wait. Come on." Putting her books in her bag, she grabbed his hand and almost dragged him down the hall. But he just pulled her back and wrapped a hand around her waist, walking that way down to Drama.

Kagome sighed. Damn Sango and her surprises.
Miroku laughed, "I didn't know I was such bad company."
She smiled, "that's not it and you know it. Its just that Sango has to make such a big deal about a little birthday, and me being her best friend, spoil her."
"And that is why you're her best friend." Miroku grinned as they walked into the cafeteria to a welcome sight. Kagome gasped at it. Right at the front table near the doors, were Sango, Inuyasha, Kenshin, Karou, and Miru. They sat around a small cake, with a single candle burning in the center. She walked up to it, hands covering her mouth, and read `happy birthday Kagome!' in bright red writing gel on the icing. Her bottom lip trembled at the sweetness. Her friends watched her smiling. Sango got up and gave her a heartfelt hug.
"Happy b-day buddy."
Kagome hugged her back, "this is so nice, thank you."
"It was our pleasure, that it was. Besides I didn't get to thank you properly for helping me." Kenshin spoke, placing an arm around Karou's shoulders. His girlfriend smiled.
"Happy birthday Kagome."
Kagome tried to hold back the touched tears that threatened, waving a hand at them to get them to shut up. Sango grinned, and Inuyasha rolled his eyes. He stepped over and gave her a loving hug.
"Give up, you know you want to." Inuyasha laughed. She in turn gave a watery laugh and let the tears fall. Inuyasha kissed her temple, and released her, keeping a hand around her waist.
"And now," Miroku cheered, "we get some cake and you get some gifts."
Sango rolled her eyes, as Kagome blew out the candle, and shoved him, "Inuyasha was right, all you think about is food and women."
"That's not true! I only think about one woman," Miroku crooned only to be shoved again.
Sango left her boyfriend alone and held up her gift. "Open it, I spent like all week putting this together."
"You made something?" Kagome took the present and started unwrapping the paper. Noticing the card, she read it and laughed at the comments that her friends deemed appropriate for her. She pushed aside the tissue paper and gasped. "Oh Sango its lovely!"
"And it already has pictures. I just gave all my rolls to Miroku and had him run out and get them developed."
"That reminds me," Miroku scowled at her, "do you realize how much developing nine rolls of film cost?"
"Oh stop, you were happy enough to do it," Sango retorted.
"Either way, its wonderful Sango, thank you," Kagome gave her friend another hug and showed off her gift.
It was a photo album, creatively decorated with stickers and construction paper and gel pens. They reminisced as she flipped through it. There was one of Kenshin and Karou smiling, and another of Inuyasha and Kouga facing off, a spark drawn between them. There was another of Inuyasha and Miroku at lunch, but all you saw of Inuyasha was his foot in the air, having fallen off the bench in laughter. Miroku stood glaring at him, half his face covered in chocolate pudding. There was a `pimp shot' of Miroku with his arms around the girls. There was one with Kagome, Sango, and Miru in the famous Charlie's angel's poses. There was so many more, most of them making them laugh. There was one of Sango smiling and shoving Kohaku's face out of the camera. There was one with the girls and their pets, and a nice one with all four of them smiling. But Kagome liked one especially. Somehow, she and Inuyasha had been caught sleeping on Sango's couch. Kagome lay on top of Inuyasha, her face buried in his chest, and he had a protective arm around her, his hat pulled forward. Giggling, Kagome again thanked Sango.
"Okay, with that done, its my turn," Inuyasha announced. He went behind Kenshin and retrieved his present. Kagome gasped another time when she saw the red rose, and her heart melted. He could be so charming. She twirled it under her nose when he handed it over, and she gave him a kiss on the cheek. But then she was given a card. Still giddily touched, Kagome opened it. She `aw'ed when she saw the handcrafted paper of the card, a pink daisy pressed and dried in the center. On the front it said `to a special girl…on her special day…'. Smiling she opened the card and froze. Inuyasha grinned.
Kagome quickly read the rest of the card,
`Dear Kagome,
`Its your birthday, and I'd like nothing more than to make you happy, by giving you what you need, want and already have.'
Hope you like what I got you, cause I expect you to take Sango with you. I know that pervert can be a pain. Yours truly, Inuyasha.'
She looked back on her gift, her eyes wide. She looked up at Inuyasha, ignoring her curious friends. He grinned broadly.
"Oh my god!" Kagome squealed, and threw herself at Inuyasha. She talked while raining kisses all over his face, making him smile more, "you (kiss) are the (kiss) best boyfriend (kiss) any girl (kiss) could ever have! Oh my god, thank you thank you thank you! You are so great!" she ended this with a huge smack on the lips and danced in place.
Sango, picking up on the excitement, went over. "What is it?" she saw what was in Kagome's hands and freaked, squealing and screaming like her friend. They finally clasped hands and shouted, "OH MY GOD!"
"Um, hello! We'd like an update!" Miroku yelled over the screeching girls, is eardrums almost to the point of bleeding. He didn't know how Inuyasha could just stand there grinning like a fool with his sensitive hearing.
They turned to him bouncing, and Kagome held out the gift, "Inuyasha got me, and Sango, an all day pass, good for three days, to the Shikon no Tama Spa! Its good for any treatment, and we have VIP passes!"
"Nani?!" Miru piped up, "the Shikon no Tama Spa! That place is so exclusive, not to mention expensive! How did you get them Inuyasha?"
Inuyasha crossed his arms, "my brother goes there religiously. He made the reservations and I spent a huge amount of my allowance paying for it."
"Which makes you so great!" Kagome hugged him again, "you would actually spend this much money for me is so sweet. You know you didn't have to! The rose would have been enough."
"I know, but I wanted to. Now you get some time to relax. So, since I spent so much of my effort for you, what do I get in return?" Inuyasha smirked as he saw the glint enter her eyes.
"Inuyasha! It's her birthday, that's not…oh…" Sango trailed off as her best friend and her boyfriend became lost in their own little world of passion. She turned away blushing to the rest of her friends, who were chatting like it was nothing. Miroku grinned at her blush.
"If I do something like that for your birthday, could we do that?"
Sango raised a brow at him, "if you did that any day I would drag you up to my room."
His eyes went wide, "well, I better start saving, wouldn't want to miss that."
