InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Drama of Edo High: A Modern Tale ❯ Revealation ( Chapter 47 )
CHAPTER 47: REVEALATION
He never left her side, never left the hospital a day she was there. He slept most uncomfortably in a chair, but he didn't mind, as long as he held her hand he would be fine. He used the shower in the bathroom, had Miroku get some clothes for him. He ate what was given to him by Mrs. Higurashi, but other than that, he spent his time in Kagome's room, watching her breath evenly. It had been five days.
He wandered that halls of Machiyahara when the doctors came to examine her, check change in her vitals, change the IV bags. It had been a relieving day when he had come back and found they had taken away the respirator, leaving Kagome to breath on her own. That fucking hissing was seriously starting to really piss him off. They changed bandages, gave her sponge baths that were done by gentle and smiling female nurses. The doctors knew better to let so much as an unneeded male lay a hand on her with her boyfriend in the building. That had ended pretty badly once, but luckily, the man made it out with nothing but a bruise. A big nasty ugly looking bruise.
It was quite strange to live in a place he hated so much for five days. You learned things that you thought you never would. Inuyasha had always tried to stay away from hospitals after his father died. Though he didn't remember much of it, he remembered scents of sickness and death, the strong disinfectant that covered the room, the salt of his mother's tears. But now, it was like a whole different world. Oh yes, there was still sickness, still cleaning products, but different things as well. One time, he had been passing the delivery ward when the strong scent of blood had clogged his nose and he almost passed out by the power of it. But it was forgotten when not a minute later, the first mewls and cries of new life had reached his enhanced ears. That had sent a funny feeling through him, and he quickly left before he was caught somewhere he wasn't suppose to be. Another thing, was the staff. They weren't the impersonal assistants that TV sometimes made them out to be. They were caring people, who smiled and laughed behind reception desks, and were quick enough to respond when those emergency doors burst open. In fact, he learned so much, he was on a first name basis with half the nurses and some doctors.
Don't get me wrong, Inuyasha wasn't the only one who obsessed over Kagome. Sango was there everyday, to brush Kagome's hair maybe, or just to talk and check up on her. Miroku was with her once or twice, but he stayed back to get their schoolwork, but whenever he did stay, it would be hours at a time. They worried constantly, and tried to look for any signs that Kagome was going to wake up that day. But five days passed and were gone, and not a flicker of an eyelid had been seen.
Kouga had come by, with Ayame, who was smiling brightly, trying to cheer everyone in her path. She brought a vase of daisies with her, and sat to chat with Inuyasha a bit. But Inuyasha noticed when Kouga rested a hand on Kagome's still shoulder, but did nothing but shake his head sadly. Ayame had picked up on it and quickly changed to subject, telling Inuyasha that Kouga was terrorizing the student body since he wasn't there to stop him. That ended with a lot of denial, and lots of teasing. Kenshin and Karou came as well, boasting pink roses for Kagome. Kenshin actually hugged him when he got up, saying he understood completely. That ended up with a whole cuddly session with Karou, which made Inuyasha somewhat jealous. Cards and paper cranes came everyday, students who knew Kagome wishing her to wake soon. But her eyes remained closed, her breathing even. She stayed asleep.
"Inuyasha?"
Inuyasha snapped his head from his musing, giving a halfhearted smile to Mrs. Higurashi as she looked to lean over and nudge his shoulder. She smiled back and gripped her hands in front of her. "Inuyasha, I'm going to the cafeteria for some tea, you want anything?"
Inuyasha shook his head, resting his chin on his hands. She nodded, her worried eyes shifting from the sleeping girl to him. But she turned and headed out, closing the door quietly behind her. He watched her go, a bit of depression marring his features. Kagome was so lucky to have a mother like that. She would come every day, from the beginning of visiting hours to closing, only leaving cause she had to take care of Souta. Souta hadn't come because he didn't want to see his sister like this.
Inuyasha turned his head to look at the said girl. The bruising on her face was almost gone, just some blotches of green, and the bandage on her head was gone, leaving only a red cut held together by butterfly bandages on her forehead. Her whole left leg was in a cast, and he was sure it went to her waist too, holding her broken femur and fractured pelvic together. They finally put a gown on her, but her ribs were far from healed. Her breathing was even, but at times he would hear rasping if she breathed in too deeply. He shook his head. She was gonna hurt like hell when she woke up.
But would she ever? No, no don't think like that. She WAS gonna wake up, because he had some major groveling to do. He still couldn't believe it, the extent of his stupidity never ceased to amaze him. How could he have been so blind as to not see her pain? I mean, she was bleeding freely right in front of him! And he had insulted her and practically threw her out of his house. But the party was still too fresh in his mind, so he had a marginal excuse. But other than that, this was his fault. He had yelled at her, blamed her, made her upset enough to drive away from his house like a madwoman with road rage. This was so his fault. What just it more painful was…
Inuyasha took her hand, rubbing his thumb over the knuckles, "some way to spend our one year anniversary huh?"
She didn't flicker once, no sign of life but her breathing and heartbeat.
"Actually, it's a crappy way, and I will personally help her kick your ass when she wakes up."
Inuyasha looked up to find Sango leaning on the empty bed of the two patient room, staring intently at him. He diverted his gaze, not wanting to meet her hard slightly accusing eyes. She sighed though and walked up to Kagome's bed, standing there with her hands behind her back. She stared down at Kagome, saddened and worried. She brought one hand from behind her back, holding out a small box with blue wrapping and white bow. "Here, Sesshomaru was heading down but told me to give it to you, he said the company was in chaos and he couldn't make it. He says sorry and he'll try tomorrow."
Inuyasha took the box silently and put it on the nightstand next to the numerous flowers there. Sango looked away, as if she was considering talking to him. The air was tense, the silence numbing any and all thoughts. But Sango's mind was working a mile a minute.
"Inuyasha," he looked up at her voice, and crossed his brows when she looked hesitant but determined some how, "I need to tell you something. About the party."
He shook his head, "Sango look-"
"No, its not what you think," she interrupted, surprising him to silence, "I saw Kagome that day, right before…the accident…the only way I could put it is that what I saw was the beginning of her injuries. No, let me finish. She had been asleep for two days, with good reason. Someone…well someone basically kicked her ass, she was bruised all over and had a really bad bump on her head."
"Sango what are you saying?" Inuyasha said quietly, his eyes turning to hard glare at the mention someone even daring to touch Kagome. Sango sighed and grabbed a chair.
"I'm saying that Kagome had the crap beaten out of her, the same night as the party. I mean, we've been to plenty of parties with her, and have you ever seen her wear heels to any of them? No think about it Inuyasha, have you?"
Inuyasha paused in his protest and blinked. He should know this, every time Kagome showed up for a party it made him want to drag her away and forget about everyone else. But think stupid, is what Sango is saying true? Let's look in the "Kagome looks sexy tonight" file, under the "party " category. Okay, there's one time she wore sandals and another where she wore clogs. She wore sneakers one time too. But try as he might, as far as the file in his head went, he didn't see her wearing heels. Come to think of it, the only time she wore heels was New Years last year, but they were kinda sandals too. He looked to Sango, and she nodded.
"She never did right?" Inuyasha nodded, "that's what I'm saying. I talked to her that day, and she was pretty bad. She couldn't remember one thing about the party, you know why? She was never there. Kagome never went to the party. actually, now that I think about it, she probably never made it. Someone got to her before she could come within spotting distance of the house. Inuyasha, at the party, that wasn't-"
"Kagome," finished a nervous voice, squeaky as she talked. They looked to the door to find a tall girl with reddish brown hair, her green eyes darting nervously. She wrung her hands, and her school uniform was tugged at relentlessly. Inuyasha raised a brow. Sango narrowed her eyes.
"Who are you?" Sango hissed. Did she know something?
The girl flinched and sighed, "um…my-my name's Megumi, and I knew Kagome from Dojima's. You could say I kind of…envied her because she was so nice and friends with almost anyone. And…I was also the one who beat her up."
"What?!" Inuyasha jumped form his seat and stared heatedly at Megumi before she saw him coming. She squeaked at his close proximity and quivered under his intense gaze. Sango got up and out a hand on his shoulder, and he backed down some.
"It wasn't my idea!!" Megumi cried pathetically, "You could say I was a hit man! It was the new girl in our school who wanted her out for the count. She paid me for it too. She told me to give her Kagome's clothes too, for what I didn't know, but she was going somewhere. I never used the money though, I gave it to her mom under the impression that Dojima wanted to help with the hospital bills."
"New girl?" Sango piped up. How would a new girl know about kagome and want the couple to break up?
"Yeah, she came in like she owned the place. She could with all the money she has. Her name's Kikyou…Onigumo I think. She was really bitchin about Kagome too, don't know why though." Megumi finally noticed that they were no longer paying attention. No, they were enraged. Megumi backed out of the room cautiously, picking up the pace as Inuyasha started to growl and tense his fists. She got out just as she heard something smash into the wall.
&-------------------------------&
Kikyou waited impatiently for the driver to come around with the car. She was supposed to be shopping right about now, but the idiot hadn't showed up yet. She tapped her foot impatiently. Where in the hell was Riko? She was going to be late for her pedicure, and if she was, there would be hell to pay. She gritted her teeth in exasperation as the silver Jaguar pulled up, and the driver got out to open the door for her. He kept his head bent, and she mistook it for an apology. She strode over and got in curtly. "It's about damn time Riko. Why in the hell do we pay you anyway?"
He didn't answer, but merely closed the door, a bit too hard, and got around to the driver's seat. As he pulled out, Kikyou used her cell phone for a quick call. "Shina? Yeah, its Kikyou, look I'm gonna be a bit late because of someone, so keep the water warm for me. Smooches."
She snapped the phone shut and rummaged in her purse. But when she looked up and out the window, she scowled. "Riko? Are you an Alzheimer's patient or something? This isn't the right way!"
He didn't respond. She narrowed her eyes on the back of his head. She looked out side to see they were driving by a wooded area. "Riko, stop the car."
Instead, he pulled of his hat, letting loose a small ponytail. She heard him chuckle. "No can do Kikyou, Riko's taking a paid break right now. There's a little matter that needs to be discussed."
Kikyou gasped and looked into the rearview mirror. To be met with not brown, but violet eyes. She knew those eyes. She hissed, "what is this about Miroku?"
He smirked and started slowing down near an empty off road lot. "Oh, I'm not the one who's talking to you. No, I think he can put it in better words than me."
"What?"
The door to her right opened and a leg extended in. the person who followed shocked her the most. Sesshomaru.
He kept his cold gaze ahead, but she knew he was angry. It was flowing off of him in waves. But his hands remained lax and his voice professional. "Your friend Megumi was very informative."
"What?!" Kikyou yelled and looked at him in shock. He merely started examining his manicured claws. Kikyou seethed next to him. The little bitch! She snitched!
"It seems, Megumi was too ridden with guilt after hearing of the accident. The money you gave her went to Kagome's hospital bills, under the cover of a donation from Dojima." Sesshomaru said coolly, smelling the nerves and anger that seeped from every pour in her body.
She huffed and turned away. "You can't prove anything."
His eyes narrowed a bit, "Megumi was all we needed to know you set the `party' thing up. You caused my brother a heap of ache Kikyou, Kagome too."
"Ha!" she barked and shook her head, "it was only right what they got."
"For you or in general?" he said lowly, his voice deepening. He could almost hear Miroku grin. The boy was enjoying this too much. "I could have you turned in for assault on testimony, maybe get you 6 months probation at best. But I do not see that as befitting the crime. Nor do I see it as good publicity, since your father does do close work with me. So, I have something better in mind."
Kikyou flicked her gaze over to Sesshomaru, trying hard not to squirm, "and that would be?"
He lips tugged up a bit to smirk, but he pushed them down, and flexed his claws out, "you will pay the remainder of Kagome's hospital bills and for her physical therapy, from your own personal account."
Kikyou exploded, "you cant--!"
"But I can Kikyou," Sesshomaru answered coldly, his golden eyes turning to her. She flinched, "I can, because I have some information on your father that could ruin him for life, leaving you and him in the gutters. All you know will be taken away, and you will have nothing. So, is it a deal?"
Kikyou panted in anger and rage. How dare he insult her like that! That he has the audacity to even say that! But try as she might, she saw no way out of this with out losing more than she gained in revenge. She calmed herself, pulling her face tot hat of indifference, and nodded simply. Sesshomaru nodded approvingly. He reached for the door handle, but paused.
"Oh and one more thing," she turned to him just his claws bit into her neck. He didn't growl, but the look in his eyes sent shivers through all the same, "stay away from my brother and Kagome, or the next time we meet will be in a court room with your father on trail. Plus, there will be no one there to stop Inuyasha if he decides to go physical. Good day."
Sesshomaru stepped from the Jaguar and started for his BMW. He heard a door open and close, the crunch of feet on soil. He didn't look when Miroku came up smugly beside him, sticking his hands in his pocket. They didn't speak till they reached his car. Miroku smirked at him and shook his head. "That last part was for show wasn't it?"
Sesshomaru raised a brow, but Miroku caught the slight grin that vanished as soon as it came, "why my dear boy, whatever gave you that idea?"
