Chapter 3: First days aren't usually this weird are they?

"Sis, I don't like it here, what if the Lord gets sick of us, he can kill us then."

"He won't kill us, Taisha wouldn't allow it." I scolded Souta as we helped carrying our things to the assigned rooms. Ours were right by each others, both of them probably bigger than our parent's house, but they were so beautiful. Souta's was a light blue color, almost too light to tell it was blue, with a huge western style bed, instead of a futon, it had a long cabinet for your clothes. We each only had about three sets of clothing, our old peasant clothes that we wore in our village were burned with our house that night, and Taisha's seamstress became deathly ill before she could make us anymore. It had a few hanging scrolls on the walls of poems and art. My room was almost the same but had white walls. It was plain, but I liked it still the same.

"AWWW Save me!" Souta and I heard yelling from behind us and turned to see a little orange blur running faster than our human eyes allowed us to see straight towards us. And not three seconds later I was knocked to the ground with the wind knocked out of me, and looked up to see a little boy with grass green eyes, orange puffy hair, and pointed ears looking down at me from standing on my stomach with concern on his features. "Are you ok lady?" He asked jumping off me so I could stand up. I slowly stood up rubbing my sore bottom when I heard yet another scream.

"GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE RUNT!" Then yet again another blur this time it was red came shooting around the corner straight towards us and I braced myself for another knocking, but it never came as I watched the blur skid to a stop not a foot away from me. "Who the hell are you?!" He all but yelled in my face as he stepped back a few feet, putting some room between us. I looked him over as well, he had Taisha's and Lord Sesshomaru's golden eyes and silver hair, but looked more like Taisha. He had cute little dog ears on top of his head. Silver just like his hair, but no streaks on his face like the other two. He was wearing a blood red haroi and matching pants. He was shorter than Lord Sesshomaru, but there was no doubt in my mind that the were related somehow.

"Inuyasha......" We all turned around to see Lord Sesshomaru walking from the way that we were heading slowly and gracefully making his way towards us. "Shut-up." Souta and I bowed our heads, showing respect for the great demon lord as he stopped to stand right by us, facing his brother. The little boy from earlier was on my shoulder trying to hide himself in my hair, but failing miserably.

"Make me." The now known Inuyasha snapped back.

"Believe me brother I wouldn't have it any other way, but unfortunately Father likes you alive for some reason and that is the only reason you are still breathing." He said just as unemotionally as he seemed to always be. He paused for a motion both brothers glaring at each other, before Inuyasha finally couldn't take it and looked away. "Be polite to father's guests. Otherwise, I'll have you answer to him."

"Guests? Who these dumb humans."

"Why don't you go kill yourself, to save me and or father the trouble, but until then, you will hold your tongue about them and to them. Understood?"

"Keh.... whatever." Inuyasha said crossing his arms and walking the direction he came from. Sesshomaru slowly walked after him.

"Thank you Sesshomaru-sama." I said curtly then me and Souta turned and picked back up the bags we were carrying and started walking the way we were directed by one of the maids before.

It took me no time at all barely to help Souta unpack. We didn't have many things, just some clothes and a few other things we managed to save from the fire. Souta had a few toys, a ball, an old katana that belonged to our father, a book about samurai's and a neckless my mother gave to him when he was still very young. He was napping on his bed, when we finished organizing his things, worn out from the traveling. I quietly opened one of the huge wooden double doors into the hallway and closed it just as quietly. Then walked a few feet away to my doors opening one of them up and walking in kicking the door closed behind me. I carried the two small bags to the large bed in the center of the room against the far wall and dropped them onto it. I opened the bag which held my few clothes unfolding them and placing them in the cabinet. Then walked back to my things that were saved from the fire, I laid them all out onto the bed in front of me. There wasn't much, but what there was now meant the world to me. There was a dagger my father always put under my pillow, ever since this war started. It was a beautiful blade, the hilt polished and shone with great craftsmanship, and in Kanji it said `Strength isn't a gift for the stupid, but a privilege for the cunning.' The sheath was a simple black cover, but the blade itself was polished to perfection, an inch or two longer than my hand, double-sided razor, the blade itself curved back and forth in a wavy line. When my father gave it to me, he said it was wavy because it was like me, never the same, never constant, but unique and beautiful. Just looking at the dagger brought tears to my eyes, I quickly laid it aside, and reached in the bag, pulling out a pad of parchment. It was very wide and long, made for artwork, as what I was obsessed with. Next I pulled out my kit if paint and brushes. These things were very expensive and I worked hard all year for my parents to buy them for me for my sixteenth birthday last year, that reminded me that my birthday was this month in a few weeks. But as quickly as I remembered I pushed it aside, and pulled out the last thing in my bag, a little satchel of charcoal. It made the most beautiful drawings and portraits. And it was very easy to come buy, as everyone had charcoal for their fires, making it all the better.

`Maybe I'll use it a bit now.' I thought as I clutched at the pad of paper. I carefully set my paint and brushes on the table by the window across the room and the dagger under my pillow as my father always told me to. Then settled down on the floor opening the pad to a blank sheet and getting out a piece of charcoal.

I was so wrapped up in what I was doing, trying to picture and draw it the best that I could I didn't hear my door open or the footsteps of someone entering my room.

"Hello!"

"AHHH!" I screamed scared by the little girl that came into my room unnoticed and sat down on my bed beside me.

"I Rin who is you?" She asked asa I was calming my racing heart then looked up to actually take a look at the girl. She was still small no more than seven of eight, she had black hair with some to the side in a small pony tail a dark chocolate brown eyes. She smiled at me and I saw she had a front tooth missing. She was dressed in a simple orange and white checkered kimono with little green swirls on it.

"I'm Higurashi Kagome." I said smiling back at the little girl, she was bouncing where she sat just a little, still a little girl full of energy that never seemed to run out, I guessed, as I used to be.

"What are you doing Kagome-chan?" She asked looking down at the drawing I was doing of the sunflower I found in an arrangement I found in my room.

"Drawing, and shading, want to try?" I asked ripping out a piece of paper out of my pad and handing it to her with some charcoal. She nodded so much I thought her head might wobble off. I giggled at her enthusiasm. "Ok but what you do is smear a little of the coal on here then use your fingers and move it around, like this." I showed her quickly and she clapped and nodded her head again, making me laugh a little.

"Rin's turn!" She cheered as she picked up the charcoal and did just as she said. We both went to our own masterpieces and didn't stop for another half hour or so when I sighed at my finished works as she clapped her now very dirty hands together over hers. "Rin-chan done!"

"Me too." I smiled at her. She showed me hers, it was of different things all around the paper. There was two smeared what were stick figures in the center holding hands with all kinds of floating objects around them. I showed her my finished sunflower taking up most of the paper drawn with as much detail as I could manage with charcoal and then a smaller version of it in a corner, filling the paper.

"Rin-chan likes yours." She smiled brightly.

"I really like yours Rin, who are they?" I asked pointing to the two stick figures. "Is that you?" I pointed to the smaller one and she nodded again then pointed to the bigger one.

"That's daddy." She smiled brightly and I did the same in return. "You come with Rin-chan to show my daddy?" She asked and I nodded. "We show him your's too." She said picking them both up, and putting hers on top as she jumped off the big bed and I slid off giggling at her little jump. She held the pictures in one hand and grabbed mine with her other. I squeezed her hand I mine as we pushed the door open and she pulled me wherever she thought her dad was. I made sure to tell her not to touch anything else, for both of our sets of hands were very black and dusty from the coal. We must have walked all the way across the huge castle, but the little girl seemed to know exactly where she was going, without a doubt, and I was just lightly tugged along. Finally we stopped in front t of two huge wooden doors. They both had to be at least ten feet tall and both carved intricate designs in them. Two guards stood on either side of the doors. "Can Rin go in?" Rin asked the guard to our right.

"Yes Rin he's not busy." He said opening the door and Rin drug me in. I stood there not two feet inside the door shocked. `Her dad was LORD SESSHOMARU!' I quickly let go of Rin's hand and knelt before him as Rin looked at me confused.

"Daddy! Rin made a new friend. Daddy this is Kagome, Kagome this is Daddy. We made pretty pictures for you." She said running over behind his desk to his left and hugged his arm with her free hand. He looked down at the smudge she made on his very clean white haroi. She put the pictures on his desk and then wiggled into his lap so she could show them to him. "This is my picture, we used chary-coals. See this is Rin and this is daddy and theses are flowers, an theses are trees, and theses is Jaken." She explained, I didn't dare look up from bowing and staring at the floor. This one is Kagome-chan's, it's a suns-flower. Isn't it pretty?" Rin asked, but all I could think off is how is Rin a human and Sesshomaru a demon, who hates humans, but she's his daughter.

~~~~
"Yes it's very nice." Sesshomaru said studying the artwork. `This girl made this?' He asked himself. `She's very talented...... For a human' "Rin."
"Yes, Daddy?"
"Go wash your hands, it will soon be dinner time."
~~~~

"Yes Daddy." And she scurried off of his lap and ran out the door leaving me there all alone with the Lord of the Western Lands.

"Girl...." I slowly sat up still kneeling though and looked at him as he was studying the picture. "Come." He said waving me over. I slowly stood up and walked over to his desk to kneel again before it. "Stand." I again slowly stood up, my head still bowed avoiding his intense gaze even though it wasn't directed at me. "You did this?" He demanded more than asked. I nodded meekly. "Who taught you?" He demanded again.

I....I taught..... taught myself." I stuttered. `He could kick me anytime he wanted, with a flick of his wrist.' I kept thinking making me more nervous and frightened.

~~~~
I could smell the fear radiating off her ever since she stepped in here, first it was shock then fear, an the closer she came, the strong it got. `She taught herself..... it was beautiful, yes, but a human making it, and a small a girl like her? Impossible, I would have to see it for myself.'
"Very well you may leave." He waved her away and she quickly bowed and scurried as fast as she could thought trying not to seem eager to get out of my presence. It was quite amusing actually, her so afraid of me.
~~~~

Rin was waiting in the hall for me. She hurriedly ran up to me as soon as I cleared the huge doors latching onto my hand again. "Rin-chan is happy daddy liked Kagome-chan's picture it was very pretty." I smiled my thanks as she led me back th way we came until we were in my room again.

"Come on Rin lets get you washed up for dinner." I said as we grabbed a towel and walked over to the small water basin in th corner of the room and washed our hands. Afterwards a maid was sent to my room saying me and Souta were to join the Lord and Rin for dinner. I quickly woke Souta and he washed his hands then I picked up Rin as she directed us to the dining room. Guards were on both sides of these doors also and they opened both as we walked in, me still carrying Rin. I quickly set her down as Lord Sesshomaru, who was seated at the head of the table, turned his cold gaze to me. She ran to sit to the right of her father smiling brightly.

"Kagome-chan sit by Rin!" Rin yelled from her seat.

"Rin, no." Her father warned then two maids came in showing us to our seats. I sat next to Rin and Souta across from me and a seat away from Sesshomaru.
