Chapter 12: And Still No Conclusion
§¤§¤§¤ Tuesday..
"I was going to avenge your death mother, I was going to make things right. But I couldn't, I was too weak." Inuyasha held his head down in silence. "I will get him though, sooner or later, he will pay."
Kagome pulled away from Miroku, her tears had stopped falling down, but she wasn't any closer to being happy. Why? Why on earth would he be so defensive around me? He should know better then that. Maybe I was just another conquest to him, another girl to put on his 'most recently screwed' list. Gods I hate men. Kagome had finished crying and was going through her 'hatred' phase. She wanted to find out what happened with Inuyasha. She had given her innocence to him, the least he could do was tell her why he was in a bad mood, and what happened to cause the damage done to his otherwise gorgeous face.
Kagome sat in the car staring at Inuyasha, who continued to gaze down at the ground, not flinching despite the wind that played around him. Rain splashed Kagome's windsheild, slowly at first, but with growing intensity. Kagome watched as Inuyasha's long white hair became damp and began sticking to his shirt; yet, he never moved. Kagome got out of the car, despite Miroku's protests, and slammed the door. The noise caught Inuyasha's attention, he watched as Kagome walked toward him. He stood up never taking his eyes off Kagome. Finally she stopped walking, she was no more then six inches from his face.
"I don't care what you say Inuyasha!" yelling to be heard over the wind and the pounding of the rain, Kagome continued, "You can tell me to 'fuck off' you can yell at me, do whatever you want! But I am not leaving you! I am not going to let you be alone!" she crossed her arms over her chest and stood as defiently as she could.
"You'll catch pnemonia if you stay out here, just go home." he didn't really know what to say. No one had ever wanted to stay with him, except his mother.
"Then so be it!" Kagome was completely soaked now, and Inuyasha was even worse.
"Just go home!"
"Not unless you come with me!" he fought within himself. Finally deciding he didn't want Kagome to get sick he stomped off to her car. He was about to get in when he looked at her angrily.
"Aren't you coming?!" he yelled. Kagome had been too shocked at his agreeing she remained rooted to the spot. Quickly she turned on her heals and ran to her car.
Kagome dropped Miroku off at his house and she headed for her own house. Upon arrivng at her own house she looked over at Inuyasha, who was now in the front seat, for the first time since they left the cemetery. He peered back at her but said not a word.
"I am sorry Inuyasha, I didn't mean to be hostile. I just wanted you to know you weren't going to get rid of me that easily." she smiled slightly and he seemed to forgive her.
"It is okay." he replied dryly. Kagome laughed slightly to herself, all that and he say's 'its okay' what a male.
"Great." she was semi-sarcastic, but she didn't know what else to say. "Want some Hot Coco? It will warm you up." she smiled brightly and Inuyasha stepped out of the car. Kagome exhaled dramatically and lead Inuyasha into her home.
Kagome boiled water and prepared the hot chocolate. Inuyasha sat on the stool at the bar-style counter and didn't speak. Kagome passed him a mug with a snowman on it, filled with the steaming liquid.
"Want whip cream?" she asked adding, "my mom always used to put whip cream in mine." he shrugged slightly and she put a little swirl in his mug, "If you like it I can add more," she said watching him taste some.
"It isn't bad," he said, Kagome took her que and added some more whip cream. She then gave herself a liberal amount before putting the whip cream back and settling onto a stool herself. Kagome sipped her hot chocolate in silence, which she had gotten annoyed with and turned on the kitchen raido.
"Kagome, where is your brother?" her mother had come home from wherever she had gone and came walking into the kitchen.
"He is at Arima's mom." Kagome answered.
"Oh that is right. Hello, Inuyasha was it?" she looked at Inuyasha who hadn't realized anyone was in the room.
"Yes, hello Mrs. Higarashi."
"Dear boy what happened to your face?" she asked, not bothering to be more gentle about the comment.
"Mom, that isn't any of your business." Kagome answered for him, if he hadn't told Kagome, she doubted he would tell her mother.
"Of course, forgive me dear," she added to Inuyasha.
"No probs. Ma'am." he said after taking another sip of coco.
"Well, you two kids have fun, I'll see you later Kagome. Your grandfather is still out for the week, probably until friday or so, and your brother is spending the night at Arima's." her mother seemed to have remembered all the important details of her families life.
"I know mom, thanks bye." Kagome called to the womens retreating back.
"Thank you,"
"For what?" Kagome asked, looking at Inuyasha as though he had dropped from another planet.
"Telling your mother it wasn't her business. I wouldn't have felt right telling her that myself."
"Oh, no problem Inuyasha."
"Does she know?" he asked, looking up from the counter.
"Know about what?" comprehension dawned on her as Inuyasha gave her a stern look, "Oh, no." she looked uneasily around.
"Are you going to tell her?" Why does he care? Kagome thought
"Yeah, when I speak to her for more then five seconds." Kagome didn't mean to be harsh with her reply, but it did sound that way.
"Cool," Inuyasha's voice didn't hold any emotion.
"Inuyasha, I know you don't want to hear this but I am going to say it anyway," he looked into her eyes hanging on every word she had to say. "Well, we have only known each other these past few months, but we've gone to school together since junior high, and well," she felt herself rambling and didn't know how to word what she had been dying to say, "Inuyasha, I guess, what I am trying to say is, Inuyasha I really really care for you. I'm pretty sure that I love you." she looked quickly away and heard the sound of class breaking on the countertop. She looked over and noticed Inuyasha had dropped his mug.
"I am sorry, I'll clean it up. Where is your cleaning supplies?" he looked utterly shocked and didn't have nearly as much composure as he normally held.
"I got it Inuyasha, its okay, just sit." she stood up and went to get some paper towels from the cabinet. Inuyasha stopped her from walking by him, she looked up into his amber eyes and waited for him to do something.
As though reading her mind, he acted immediately, he leaned down and brought his lips into a mesmorizing kiss that sent shivers down their spines. Kagome reacted on instinct and kissed him back without hesitation. She wrapped her arms gently around his neck as he deepened the kiss.
"Kagome, I seem to have misplaced my," Kagome pulled away from Inuyasha and looked at her mother who had walked in looking up from the purse she had been searching in. "Keys," she stated after a moment.
"I'll help you look," Kagome said awkwardly. Kagome immediately noticed them on the table in the living room. Kagome handed the key's to her mother and another tense moment filled the room.
"Well, I didn't mean to, interrupt anything, I have to be going now,"
"It isn't what you are thinking Mrs. Higarashi," Inuyasha tried to defend his actions without getting Kagome in trouble.
"Indeed." she replied simply. Kagome knew her mother's thoughts of Inuyasha and his horrible reputation were resurfacing in her head. "Good bye children." she emphasized the word 'children' and walked out the door.
Kagome cleaned up the spilled hot chocolate and sat down on the stool, Inuyasha had been sitting as well and they avoided looking at each other.
"Could this day get any worse?" Kagome muttered to herself.
"Probably, but I hope not," Inuyasha answered her.
"I didn't mean to be forward. I've never really felt this way about anyone. At first I thought I would just like you because I like to essentially 'help' people." Kagome recieved an odd stare from Inuyasha but continued none the less, "Once we got to know each other better though I realized that I had never felt so strongly about someone. I always tend to distance myself from people, but I didn't want to be distanced from you. I hope I am making sense and not being to forward. Of course after this weekend I guess nothing I do could seem forward." she chuckled slightly to herself as she thought of the weekends events.
The date on Friday had been just the tip of the iceburg. On Saturday Kagome and Inuyasha had spent the whole day together, they went to a carnival, a movie, walked around town window shopping, and then went back to Inuyasha's place. On Sunday it had been more of the same, spending most of the day outside in the warm sun, and going back to his place for most of the afternoon.
"I know what you mean Kagome, I don't like to be close to people either. This past weekend was the best time of my life though. I want to be with you all the time. I can't though, I can't allow," he cut himself off again not wanting to tell Kagome about his father's 'secret'. Kagome looked pleadingly at him, she was tired of him shutting her out.
"You can tell me Inuyasha." she placed her hand in his and he told her everything that happened. His mother dying, his theory on her death, his father's ritualistic beatings, and what happened Tuesday morning. He had never told anyone so much about him, he felt relieved, and yet he felt nervous that she would hate him or something. He was paranoid to say the least.
Kagome couldn't bring herself to words, she was afraid she would cry if she tried to speak. How could his father kill his mother? Inuyasha noticed her shocked reaction, and the tears causing her eyes to glisten.
"Kag, don't cry, everything is okay." he held her closer to him and she allowed herself to be almost pulled off her stool and held in his strong embrace. Kagome allowed herself to only shed a few tears before she was recollected. Inuyasha softly kissed the top of her head and nuzzled his cheek against hers. Inuyasha pulled away and looked into Kagome's glowing spheres. He allowed himself to kiss her tenderly, Kagome couldn't resist accepting him.
Kagome stood up and motioned for Inuyasha too follow her to her room where they continued to make-out. Kagome allowed herself to once again succumb to her desires, and the pleasure that only Inuyasha could bring.
