Chapter 16: Worthless Hanyou

Inuyasha looked around the camp, and felt the same old depression come back. He glanced over, and noticed that Sango was walking towards him, her face unreadable. "Hey Sango, what's up?" he asked her, knowing he couldn't receive an answer from her.

'What am I doing?' she asked herself. She looked up at Inuyasha, and smiled slightly, then shook her head. 'Even if I could talk…would I want to?' she wondered. 'I'm a demon exterminator…and now I'm falling in love with a demon…but I'll be damned if he's ever nice to me for more than five minutes,' she thought with a sigh. Inuyasha watched her as she took a seat next to him, and he realized that he wanted to talk to somebody about his problems. Maybe Sango would be the perfect candidate…at least she wouldn't interrupt him.

"Sango…can I ask you something?" he asked her. She frowned slightly, but nodded her head. "Do you think I'm just a worthless hanyou? Do you think I will ever find somebody to love me?" he asked her softly. Sango gaped. Was this the same Inuyasha that they all loved and knew? Was he actually asking her this? She didn't know what to do…she couldn't say anything to comfort him…

'Oh Inuyasha! Of course you're not a worthless hanyou! You are a great man…you are strong and loyal…I know you'll eventually find love,' she wanted to say to him. Instead, she hugged him, hoping her message would get through. It was now Inuyasha's turn to be shocked.

'Is Sango hugging me?!" he wondered in bewilderment. Soon, he realized that was the best answer she could give him right now, and he returned her hug. After a few minutes, they both pulled back, and Inuyasha noticed tears in Sango's eyes. "Sango? What's wrong?" he asked her gently.

'I shouldn't be crying…I should be happy…I'm finally in love…with a bastard…but I'm still in love! Inuyasha had love…and it was ripped away from him…he thinks he's a worthless hanyou…but it's not true!' she thought, then she realized something. 'I'm crying for him?' She reached up and put her hand on his cheek, and watched as he calmed, and closed his eyes. 'You'll find love, my friend,' she thought wistfully.

This was how Kagome and Miroku saw the two when they returned. Kagome felt a pang of guilt at the depressed look on Inuyasha's face, while Miroku felt slightly jealous. 'Why should I feel jealous? I have Kagome now…' he thought. He frowned for a minute, then smiled happily. Inuyasha and Sango were broken out of their bonding by a loud screech and the sound of skin against skin.

"Would you stop that!" Kagome hissed at the monk.

"Sorry my dear Kagome," Miroku said with an innocent smile.

"What do you two want?" Inuyasha asked impatiently. His heart hurt at seeing those two getting along so well. He loved Kagome…but she was just like Kikyou. He didn't want to believe it at first…but this is what Kikyou did to him at one point, all those years ago.

~*~Flashback ((AN: I promise, the only one in this chapter!!!))~*~

"Kikyou!" Inuyasha looked at the woman, slightly shocked at the scene before him. Kikyou was in the arms of another man…a human man. She looked up at Inuyasha, and smiled sadly at him.

"I'm sorry Inuyasha…I need to be loved like this…and I don't think you can give it to me…not what I need…" Kikyou said to him. Inuyasha could feel his heart breaking, and he turned away.

"Is it because I'm a hanyou?" he asked her softly. If he had turned around, he would have seen her drop her head in self disgust.

"I'm so sorry Inuyasha," she said softly. Three years later, Kikyou's human lover was killed by a youkai. Kikyou did not grieve as Inuyasha expected her to. She did cry occasionally, but not too often. Soon, Kikyou came back to Inuyasha, looking for comfort. "I'm sorry Inuyasha, will you ever forgive?" she asked him.

"Forgive you for what?" he asked, not sure what she wanted him to forgive him for.

"I know I'm being selfish…but please hear me out before you decide or judge me…" she said softly.

"What is it?" Inuyasha asked, curiosity getting to him.

"Well…I think I have come up with an idea on how we can both be happy," she said, looking away from his eyes. "If we can use the jewel for good…then it will be gone…and I can be a normal woman…" she started, pausing to look up and see the hanyou's reaction. She saw curiosity in his eyes, so she continued. "What if you used the jewel to become human? Then we could be together…and not have to worry about our…complications," she said softly.

Inuyasha was stunned. "But I can protect you better like this…" he started.

"But think about it, Inuyasha! I'm human. I will die long before you. Also, think of any children we have! They will also be hanyou…do you want them to go through the same humiliation that you went through?" she asked him.

"Are you ashamed of my heritage?" he asked her harshly.

"No! I'm just thinking about the future," she said softly.

~*~End Flashback~*~

'And that's when everything started to go wrong…' Inuyasha thought dejectedly. Inuyasha looked at the three humans around him, and decided he wanted to go for a run. "Thank you Sango," he said softly, so only she could hear him, the took off. Sango watched his retreating form for a minute, before her attention transferred to a demon that was approaching them…and fast.

"Naraku, you wanted to talk to me?" Kikyou asked, her voice filled with hatred towards the evil hanyou.

"What do you know of the kitsune?" Naraku asked the woman. He growled slightly when he saw her eyes widen.

"How did…" but he cut her off.

"Kanna told me. Now answer me!" he ground out.

"He is powerful, and he has advantages against Inuyasha and his friends. He is more powerful than you are, Naraku," Kikyou said the last part as an bitter afterthought.

"Indeed?" Naraku asked, raising a thin eyebrow in thought. 'I might have trouble with that fox then…' he thought. "We will send out an army of youkai to test him," Naraku concluded. He then dismissed the dead priestess.

"Either way, my life is screwed," Kikyou whispered to herself. "Doesn't matter who wins." Kikyou noticed a certain wind youkai walking towards her, face in a frown. "Kagura? Why have you returned?" Kikyou asked the woman that was now before her.

"I had no choice," Kagura answered, and gave a wistful smile. Kikyou couldn't help but to respond with her own sad smile.

'Soon…we will be rid of Naraku…but then we will have to deal with this Shippou,' Kikyou thought, the idea leaving a bitter taste in her mouth.

AN: Yay! A new chapter, finally! Sorry it's been awhile…but I hope you like this! A little bit of info on Inuyasha and Kikyou and such. And just to let you know, Kikyou is still slightly evil…but it's more like a Kagura evil. I do like both Kikyou and Kagura…but most likely, one or both of them will die at some point. ^_^ I've decided that it's gonna get a little more angsty (is that a word? Ah well, it is now.), since we already had some fluffy moments. Don't worry though! I'll randomly throw in some fluff! ^_^ Thanx! Please read and review!
