Chapter 2: An Odd Meeting

'I will not kill her,' Kagura thought to herself. 'That woman is strong…I bet she can take on Naraku,' Kagura had been so lost in her thoughts, that she did not even notice Kouga approaching her.

"YOU!" he screamed, snapping Kagura back to reality.

"Damn, this is the last thing I need," Kagura muttered to herself.

"I will kill you for killing my comrades!" Kouga said, loathing in his voice.

"I don't have time for you, Kouga-kun," Kagura said simply, trying to get by him.

"I don't give a fuck!" he said to her. Kagura sighed. She knew she was going to have to fight this moron.

"Fine, but I really must hurry," she said, sounding very impatient.

As Kagura and Kouga started fighting, Kagura's thoughts went elsewhere. She was not concentrating on the fight at all anymore. "Fuujin no Mai!" she said, almost lazily.

"Stupid bitch! What are you aiming at?" Kouga yelled at her. In the next instant, Kouga somehow got Kagura's fan, and snapped it in half. Kagura finally brought her thoughts back to the fight. 'No! I will not die by his hand! I have to free myself from Naraku first!' she thought furiously. "Beg for mercy, and maybe I will spare your life!" Kouga sneered.

"I'll never beg for mercy!" Kagura snapped. With that, Kouga attacked Kagura, and sent her into a tree. The impact made the tree snap, like it was just a mere twig. Kagura thought she was going to die right then, but to her amazement, the stupid wolf turned away. 'He didn't even check to see if I was dead!" Kagura thought. 'That baka! I shouldn't complain though…I should be able to live through this…' and those were Kagura's last thoughts before she slipped into unconsciousness.

'Great!' Sango thought furiously. 'Now that the stupid monk told Inuyasha and Kagome how I feel, they have all been avoiding me! Just great!' Sango truly was pissed off. "I'm leaving!" she yelled.

"What?!" was the response she got. All three of them snapped their heads up to look at her.

"You heard me! I'm leaving! I can't take this anymore!" with that, Sango stood up, grabbed her Hiraikotsu, and stalked off. "Don't even think about following me!" she yelled over her shoulder.

"She didn't even take Kirara…" Shippou said, looking at his retreating friend.

"Feh, she'll be back," Inuyasha sneered, and continued eating. Miroku and Kagome watched their friend retreat, and then shrugged, also continuing with their meals.

"Well, shouldn't somebody go after her?!" Shippou said, starting to worry.

"You heard her, she doesn't want anybody to follow her," Inuyasha snapped at the kitsune. Shippou didn't care. He ran off after Sango.

"Wait, Shippou!" Miroku yelled, but Shippou did not turn back.

"Sango?" Shippou was trying to find Sango's scent, but his sense of smell was no where near as great as Inuyasha's.

"Leave me alone, Shippou," Sango said. There was something odd about her voice.

"Sango, what's wrong?" he asked, nearing her.

"I just want to be alone, okay?" she asked in a gentle voice. She looked up and smiled at the kitsune pup, but her eyes showed her sadness.

"Okay," Shippou said, and retreated. He only wanted to do what would make his friend happy.

"Thank you," she whispered as she watched him leave. Right then, she heard a scream of pain. She stood up, and ran to the source.

Kagura couldn't hold it in any longer, she had to let out a scream. Wolves were surrounding her now. 'Now I know why that idiot didn't kill me!' she thought bitterly. 'He's not as stupid as I thought,' she sneered. The wolves were closing in on Kagura, and she was starting to wish that Naraku would end her life, instead of being destroyed by pathetic wolves. She noticed her fan was across the clearing from her, not to mention in two pieces. She sneered again, 'What luck I'm having today!' she thought. Then, the wolves looked away from her, and she realized there was rustling in the bushes.

"Who's there?" Sango said, warily.

"Sango…" Kagura whispered, she had the wind knocked out of her, and was still not able to speak. Sango looked into the clearing, and found wolves everywhere. Then she saw the girl lying by the tree that had been snapped in half.

"Kagura!" Sango said in utter amazement. She noticed Kagura's fan across the clearing, and in half. 'Great, she's defenseless!' Sango thought. "HIRAIKOTSU!" Sango yelled, and let her weapon fly through the wolves. Some of the wolves dodged it, and ran away, while the rest were cut or knocked out by the weapon. Sango walked over to Kagura's fan, and picked it up first. It was in bad shape, but probably wouldn't be too hard to fix.

"Sango…" Kagura whispered, and Sango whipped around.

"Kagura, what are you doing here?" Sango asked, trying to help the girl up.

"I was looking for you…" Kagura whispered.

"Why?" Sango's eyes narrowed.

"Naraku sent me to kill you…but I was going to ask for your help," Kagura tried explaining. Sango looked Kagura over for a minute.

"Why do you want my help?"

"I want to destroy Naraku! I want to be free!" Kagura said, with more energy than she had.

"Careful! You're going to hurt yourself even more," Sango said, with sincere concern. 'Why is she being nice to me?' Kagura wondered. She looked up at Sango, and saw a warming smile. Kagura smiled back. "Do you think you can walk at all?" Sango asked her.

"I don't know…" Kagura replied.

Sango got to her feet, and helped to pull Kagura up. When Kagura almost fell back down, Sango draped one of her arms around her shoulder. "Here, I'll take you to the village," Sango offered Kagura, "Maybe we can fix your fan too," she added. Kagura slightly smiled at Sango. 'I don't understand this girl…' Kagura thought, as they headed to the village. Once they entered the village, they both heard hurried footsteps coming towards them. Sango looked up, and found herself face to face with a pissed off hanyou.

"What do you want, Inuyasha?" Sango asked him, looking at him defiantly.

"What are you doing with her?!" he asked her, almost yelling.

"Inuyasha, calm down," Miroku's voice rang out, "I'm sure she has a good explanation for this."

"Kouga attacked her, destroyed her fan, and almost killed her. I found her, and now I'm helping her. Do you all have a problem with that?" Sango asked, trying to keep her voice from reaching bitterness.

"Actually, I do," Inuyasha glared at her. "What the hell do you think you're doing?! She's one of Naraku's detachments! She'll betray us all, and kill us!" he snapped.

"Yeah, what says that I won't? Or you? Or even Kagome…Miroku…Shippou…Kirara?!" Sango snapped back. She was getting really pissed off at what Inuyasha was saying.

"I'll leave," Kagura interrupted.

"No, I'll take you to Kaede, and if she refuses to help you, then I'll take you somewhere else," Sango said to her, letting her voice soften. Kagura felt an odd sensation at these words.

"Arigatou, Sango," Kagura said, not looking up.

"Sango!" Inuyasha yelled, "What the fuck is wrong with you?!"

"YOU GUYS ARE!" Sango yelled back. With that, she slowly made her way to Kaede's hut, making sure not to jostle the injured Kagura.

"What the hell did she mean by that?" Inuyasha asked, glaring at Sango.

"It's what I was telling you about before…" Miroku sighed. "She doesn't feel like she should be with us anymore," he looked a little sad at the thought.

"She told me that…but I didn't know what she meant…I thought she was just confused and wanted a little alone time," Kagome said.

"Great! So now she goes and makes friends with the people we despise!" Inuyasha snapped at them.

"I think we need to go to Kaede's hut, and see what happens there," Miroku said, trying to keep his voice calm.

"Sango?" Kagura started.

"Yes?" Sango replied.

"Why are you being so nice to me?" Kagura asked what she had been wondering for a while now.

"You needed help," Sango replied. She really wasn't sure why she was helping Kagura, but it definitely felt like the right thing to do.

"You should hate me though…" Kagura said thoughtfully.

"I should, but I don't. It's true…you're a detachment of Naraku, who has my little brother brain washed, and is using him as an assassin, and Naraku is the one who killed my village…but you are not Naraku. You have your own soul, and I want to help you free yourself from that bastard," Sango explained. Her explanation surprised Kagura, almost as much as it surprised herself.

"But I am a youkai, and you are a Youkai Exterminator," Kagura said, seemingly thinking aloud.

"Yes, but not all youkai are bad. Look at Inuyasha and his brother…I mean, they're not the nicest youkai and hanyou, but they're definitely not as bad as some of the others. I only kill the youkai who threaten humans," Sango said.

"But I have tried to kill you and your friends countless times," Kagura replied.

"Hai, but you did it because of Naraku's control over you. If you were not under his control, would you find any need to hurt us…or any humans?" Sango asked her. Kagura thought about this for a minute, and when she realized the answer, she felt a little surprised, but mostly relieved.

"No, I would not," she finally answered Sango.

"Then there you go," Sango said, and smiled at Kagura. 'I have a feeling that we could become friends…' Sango thought to herself. Little did Sango know, Kagura had thought almost the exact same thing.
