InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Entering the University ❯ A Fight ( Chapter 3 )
Remembering about the bouncer job, Inuyasha went to check it out as soon as Kagome left for class. He tried to coach himself during the walk over on how to answer questions without being what Kagome would consider as "rude". This sounded like a good job and he didn't want to mess it up. The sign was still on the door when Inuyasha got there. He walked inside and up the stairs, as a sign dictated. At the top of the stairs, he could see a dance floor and a bar. Off to the side was an office. He knocked on the door. "Yeah..." a voice called. Inuyasha said that he saw the sign for a bouncer and he would like the job. "Come on in," a weary voice answered. The man perked up some when he saw Inuyasha. Here before him was someone who looked to have the right attitude and could obviously handle the rougher customers. The man asked Inuyasha his name and why he thought he could handle the job. Inuyasha replied with, "My name is Inuyasha and there isn't anything I can't handle." The man grunted at his bold yet cocky answer. After considering him for a moment, the man said, "Alright, you can have the job. It pays 9.35 an hour. Be here at 9:00 tonight to start. Expect to be here from 9 to 1 every night." Inuyasha nodded. Then he thought of the applications the other jobs had handed him and asked his new employer if he would need anything more than his name. "You runnin' from the law, boy?" the man asked.
"No, I just can't give anything more than my name."
"You got an address?" the man asked.
"Yes", Inuyasha replied.
"Okay then, that's all I'll need."
Inuyasha could hardly believe his luck. Here it was, not even past lunchtime, and he had a job! He could hardly wait to tell Kagome.
As Kagome walked out of her class, she immediately noticed Inuyasha standing there, waiting. When Inuyasha saw her, his face broke out into a smile. He eagerly told her about his new job. Kagome was glad for him, but was wary of the fact that the employer wanted no more than a name and address from Inuyasha. She quickly brushed that thought aside, knowing that Inuyasha could handle anything he had to and also that he probably thought this through already anyways. At least she hoped he had.
After a few days, they fell into a routine. Kagome would get up first and shower, and then wake Inuyasha up, provided he wasn't awake already. They would go to breakfast together and then Kagome would go to class. Inuyasha spent most of the afternoon doing whatever he pleased. He would usually take a nap as well. After Kagome's classes were over, the two of them would hang out, go out, or any number of things. At nine o'clock they separated ways again. Inuyasha would go to work and Kagome would stay. Inuyasha liked his job. He let people in the door, no drunks or dangerous characters allowed. If a fight broke out, they often did, it was up to Inuyasha to break it up. That is his favorite part, the fighting. At one in the morning Inuyasha would leave and come home. Most times Kagome was still up, and they would talk or play a game. Mostly talking. Each began to feel even more relaxed with each other and opened up more. Inuyasha and Kagome would sleep close to each other; Kagome nestled into the crook of Inuyasha's body and Inuyasha with an arm around Kagome. Both slept peacefully, with no ear twitching on Inuyasha's part.
One night, Kagome and Inuyasha got into talking about their feelings and other things close to the heart. Kagome talked about her dad, who is not around much. "When he is around, he isn't much of a father, more of a stranger..." Kagome said. Inuyasha talked some about his mother, about how she would tell him he was special and to not let the taunts of others bother him. Kagome thought she saw tears in Inuyasha's eyes, but he quickly rubbed his eyes.
"And what about...us..." Kagome said, "how do you feel about that?"
"Umm...ahhh..."
"Do you like me, I mean like me like me? Or are we just together to search for the jewel?"
Inuyasha continued to stumble over his tongue.
"Well?" Kagome was getting impatient. She didn't think it was so hard to say yes or no, but hopefully, hopefully he would say yes; yes that he liked her that way and that this was not just about the jewel of four souls. Inuyasha still said nothing. Kagome, with the tears of fallen hopes starting to sting her eyes, said a gruff goodnight to Inuyasha and went to bed. Inuyasha was not completely sure of what he had done, all he knew was that he should have said something; anything, and now he had made Kagome cry. He hated to see her cry. And it was usually his fault too. He thought to himself that he should have told her everything, told her that he loved her, only her and not Kikyo. Now it was too late. Kagome will not want to hear it. Still, Inuyasha decided to try. He started: "uhh, Kagome?...I uhh..." He was then interrupted by Kagome, though muffled with her tears and a pillow, saying, "Sit, Inuyasha!". Inuyasha hit the floor with a thud.
When Inuyasha was able to stand again, he took a pillow and a blanket and left the room to spend the night on the couch. He did not want to give Kagome any reason to "sit" him again. After he left, Kagome cried herself to sleep
