Chapter 3

Inuyasha was hiding Kagome's pack way up in a tree, just in case she wasn't kidding about that going home thing, when Miroku called up to him.

"Hey! You! In the tree! Come with me to go admire the bathing beautys!" Inuyasha jumped down in order to restrain the (cough) holy man.

"Hey, Inuyasha, c'mon let go! If you don't wanna come you can at least let me go."

"No, I can't. Not only will you get a massive head wound making us stay here longer, but Kagome'll blame me for letting you get to close and I'll get sat!" Miroku struggled against him for about a second until he realized `d'uh! It's Inuyasha. No way will he let me go. Unless…'

"Hey, Inuyasha." Miroku said in a husky voice.

"W-what?"

"Can you hold me harder? I like it."

"Aaahhhh!" Inuyasha screamed as he pushed the houshi away from him.

Miroku smiled and got ready to run toward the spring until he saw Inuyasha pale.

`Wow. I guess he didn't really find that funny' thought Miroku.

Inuyasha sniffed the air. "K-kikyo." And then he darted off towards the direction of her scent.

"Kikyo," said a shocked Kagome "What are you doing here?"

Kikyo stood in a threatening pose beside the spring that Sango and Kagome were bathing in. She wasn't carrying her bow and arrows.

"I'm here for the shards of course."

Sango moved in front of Kagome in order to protect her.

"Girl, your injured. Your in no condition to protect her. Save what little precious time I have and just move."

"But-" Kagome started to say when Inuyasha burst through the trees right behind them followed closely by Miroku.

"HENTAI!"

"SIT!"

The girls screamed at the same time. Miroku didn't really get a punishment since he didn't have prayer beads around his neck like Inuyasha, who was slammed into the ground.

"Damn it, Bitch!" Inuyasha shouted, still on the ground. "I didn't come here to peep at you! I came cause…" He finally looked up. Strate at Kikyo.

"What are you doing here Kikyo?" Inuyasha questioned. Kikyo flicked from Inuyasha to Kagome and back again.

"I came to collect the shards." She said coolly.

"Fat chance with all of us guarding them!" said Sango.

"Who's guarding them?" Replyed Kikyo. "You are too hurt to move, that houshi can't use Kazaana since Naraku has lent me his poisonous bees , and Inuyasha would never harm me." She threw out almost mockingly.

"I can protect them, Kikyo." Said Kagome, just as coolly as her incarnation. Kikyo seemed to smile slightly. She shook her head and said, "You can't defend them either. Not that you have to. I expect you to hand them to me."

Kagome snorted at the thought. Inuyasha, who had been standing by the waters edge switching glances between Kikyo and a fully submerged Kagome, said "Kikyo, why do you want the shards?" She finally looked over at him. "Because I was the one he hurt most and I will be the one to defeat him."

"WHAT?" shouted Sango. "You didn't lose you whole family! Your village! See your brother murder you father!" Sango shivered "No, Kikyo, you have no right to say you were hurt most."

"Foolish girl! You've never lost your soul!" she cast a glance at Kagome "You've never been forced to be dead and yet still walk the earth. Don't compare our pain." Sango just scowled, seeing it for what it was. A pointless fight that neither would win. Kikyo scowled back and slowly made her way towards Inuyasha. Sango and Kagome turned around so they could watch whatever was about to happen. Kagome frowned, hoping it wasn't going to be a kiss.

Kikyo came up beside Inuyasha. She looked him straight in the eye and explained why she needed the shards. "Inuyasha, I'm the only one who can defeat Naraku. Onigumo's wish to have me will fight with Naraku's wish to rule the world once he starts to absorb the jewel. When those two powers are raging within him I will kill him. In that moment of weakness."

Inuyasha started shouting at her. "You want us to give you the shard so that you can hand them over to Naraku so that he'll absorb them and become the most powerful demon in the world!?"

"I'll kill him before that happens."

Inuyasha shook his head "Kikyo," he sighed "I can't just let you fight Naraku."

"You don't have to `let' me, Inuyasha. You just have to stay out of my way while I do it."

The two of them seemed to stare at each other a long time after Kikyo had stopped talking.

Everone watching this scene was getting very nervous. Espescially Sango and Kagome who were naked and couldn't just get out and put their clothes on.

Miroku coughed looking embarresed. Then Kikyo sighed.

"Very well." she said. She made to move toward Kagome when Inuyasha grabbed her arm.

"What do you think your doing?" he growled.

She hung her head and Inuyasha growled and let go of her seeing that his palm was burnt. "It would be nice if I chose to fully purify you Inuyasha. Though you'd probably die in the process." Inuyasha's scowl deepend.

Kikyo reached out a hand towards Kagome who looked at her quizzically. Suddenly the surffice started to bubble around the shikon shards and one of Kikyo's demon's came up holding the them. Kgome gasped and tried to grab them when she realized she was naked and fell back into the water to cover herself.

No one followed as Kikyo walked away. She knew they wouldn't. It was good they finally realized what she had to do. So, she set out to find Naraku.
